put our transgressions from us the lord is kind and merciful may the lord be in your heart and on your lips that you may worthy proclaim his holy gospel in the name of the father and of the son of the holy spirit [Music] hallelujah [Music] your word o lord is truth consecrate us in the truth hallelujah [Music] [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to mark glory to you jesus came into the district of judea and across the jordan again crowds gathered around him as was his custom he again taught them the pharisees approached him and asked is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife they were testing him he said to them in reply what did moses command you they replied moses permitted a husband to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her but jesus told them because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment but from the beginning of creation god made them male and female for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh so they are no longer two but one flesh therefore what god has joined together no human being must separate in the house the disciples again questioned jesus about this he said to them whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her and if she divorces her husband and marries another she commits adultery the gospel the lord before we reflect on the scriptures today let us just be attentive to what's happening in the ukraine and let us keep in our daily prayers the innocent people who are suffering both in ukraine and russia because of selfishness and greed you know we live in an area where we have neighbors we have the ukrainian catholics in carnegie and we have the russian and ukrainian orthodox in carnegie some of whom may very well have family members still in the old country so let us be attentive to their needs spiritually keeping them close to our hearts in prayer so that soon soon a resolution will come of the whole sad sad issue i was going to preach in the gospel but jesus is pretty clear about divorce and remarriage so i'm going to talk about that we'll talk about james the first reading today you know christianity is a commitment for most of us it's a commitment that was made for us when we were infants because we had parents and godparents who took us to the baptismal fund but there are more than enough opportunities as we get older to reaffirm that commitment to be able to do what we're called to do as brothers and sisters of the lord jesus sons and daughters of the father now commitment when it comes to christianity runs the gamut there are people on one end that may step foot into church once a year maybe and that may just because they want a bulletin then there are people on the other far end who are martyrs for the faith there's a huge span of gap between those two attitudes of christianity we don't want to be the ones that just stop in for a bulletin and we're not all going to be called to be martyrs but we cannot be wishy-washy half-baked in between christians and that's what james talks about today let your yes mean yes and your no me no blessed are those who persevere the lord gives us the grace that we need to be christian every day we need to respond to that grace the lord puts in our place in in our paths every day a circumstance that might require that our faith be tested and if we practice the faith it will be strong and when the tests come and they will we'll pass we cannot be half-baked christians because that will get us nowhere that makes us nominal as they say christians in name only but not christians in heart or mind or soul not christians who are looking forward to the final day on this earth that we meet the lord and rejoice in the fact that he's going to call us to our greater existence if our christianity does not change the way we live then it's not doing its job if our christianity doesn't shape us and mold us so that we're different then it's not what it's supposed to be so let your yes mean yes and your know me no persevere like job who had everything taken away from him but everything restored hundreds and hundreds of fold because he was so faithful we're not in between we have to be faith-filled so don't give up on your faith do not let anything take that faith away from you when the struggles come you know where to go and who to turn to persevere because the blessings come through that perseverance prompted by the holy spirit and with confidence in the father's love for each of us we offer our prayers now in jesus name for vocations of the priesthood and religious life may the lord bless the church with committed men and women let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for ukrainian people in this time of conflict may god's grace sustain and strengthen them and keep them from harm let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for parents who lack adequate resources to provide for their children's basic needs may the lord bless them with people and means to ease their burdens let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for all of us gathered here today that we may be graced with the mind and spirit of christ the son of the living god let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for all who have died may the lord shine his face upon them and give them eternal peace let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the intention of this mass sylvia delugos let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer heavenly father every day in the course of our faith lives we fail but in the course of that failure you will raise us up and forgive us you are merciful to us in our efforts to try again strengthen us in our desire every day to be faith-filled and faithful we ask this through christ our lord himself blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you fruit of the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands will become our spiritual drink with humble spirit and contrite heart may be accepted by you o lord and may our sacrifice in your sight this day be pleasing to you lord god wash me oh lord from my iniquities and cleanse me from my sins pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father as we celebrate your mysteries o lord with the observance that is your due we humbly ask you that what we offer to the honor of your majesty may profit us for salvation through christ our lord lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord in him you have been pleased to renew all things giving us all a share in his fullness for though he was in the form of god he emptied himself and by the blood of his cross brought peace to all creation therefore he has been exalted above all things and to all who obey him he has become the source of eternal salvation and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions with all the hosts and powers of heaven we offer the hymn of your glory as without end we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hasanah in the highest you are indeed holy o lord and all you have created rightly gives you praise for through your son our lord jesus christ by the power and working of the holy spirit you give life to all things and make them holy and you never cease to gather a people to yourself so that from the rising of the sun to its setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name therefore o lord we humbly implore you by the same spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration that they may become the body and blood of your son our lord jesus christ at whose command we celebrate these mysteries from the night he was betrayed he himself took bread and giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith save us savior of the world therefore o lord as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your son his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven and as we look forward to his second coming we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice look we pray upon the oblation of your church and recognizing the sacrificial victim by whose death you will to reconcile us to yourself grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your son and filled with his holy spirit may become one body one spirit in christ may he make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect especially with the most blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs and with all the saints on whose constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help may this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray o lord advance the peace and salvation of all the world be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth with your servant francis our pope and david our bishop the order of bishops all the clergy and the entire people you have gained for your own listen graciously to the prayers of this family whom you have summoned before you in your compassion o merciful father gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world to our departed brothers and sisters and to all who are pleasing to you at their passing from this life give kind admittance to your kingdom there we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through christ our lord through whom you bestow on the world all that is good through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever taught by our savior's command and formed by his divine teaching we dare to pray our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and
