i borrowed the ps4 from one of my friends and i begged delgado to send me a capture card which they had absolutely no problem with so thanks elgato and i'm doing all of this to please all console streamers in the comment section because how do you start streaming with a console well i'm about to find out this temporary setup was not a good idea [Music] the bread and butter of console streaming is a capture card like this one right here but while the core concept of a capture card is pretty simple it just sends gameplay from your console to your pc it does bring up some questions is my audio going through the hdmi or do i need to use the audio port on the card and then a question i read a lot in my comment section if you only have a console and a computer and you don't have a separate screen to game on can you comfortably game and stream at the same time from your computer in full screen without any input lag and when you do stream directly from your pc is there a way to read your stream chat while your game is full screen that's a lot to figure out but i've got a double espresso so yeah it still can't be a lot now before going over what equipment you will need what stream graphics are you going to use while being live your parents will already be extremely disappointed in you for wanting to become a streamer i am so disappointed at least try to make them proud by having a good looking stream nice the graphics you just saw came from this website which is ontoltv the sponsor of this video you can go to overlays and incomplete packages and there you can find a bunch of complete stream graphic bundles which are very high quality my dad says this one looks the best so let's check it out each pack has a dedicated page and when you scroll down you will find a preview tool which can be used to get a feel of how the pack would look on your stream by using the test buttons around this gameplay to trigger alerts trigger a transition take a look at the intermission screen if you use my code tv and a checkout you will get 50 of your price the link will be in the description until tv check them out so this is how it usually works my console is connected through this cable to the screen now instead you want to take the hdmi out of your screen and you want to make sure that the hdmi goes from your console directly to this capture card right here and then you want to use the usb that comes with it you want to plug that in the capture card and now you want to plug the other side of the usb in your pc in the usb 3.0 port now make sure that the port is usb 3 and you can recognize it because it's blue on the inside if it's an older version of a usb port it will not work so right now the console is correctly linked to the computer and i will show you how to use the streaming program and import it there in a minute now if you have an extra screen and you want to game on that while streaming on your computer then you want to take a second hdmi cable plug it into the capture card in the hdmi out port and i want to plug the other side of the hdmi in your monitor right now my console is sending footage to hdmi to the capture card and then the capture card is sending footage to hdmi to this screen right here and through usb to the computer if you still have to buy a capture card i have this one right here it's from elgato there are other brands that may capture cards too i can't go over all of them i will add the list to the description with some good options if you just want to hear a name and then buy that card it's pretty simple if you game in 1080p with your console then get the hd60s if you game in 4k then get the s plus they will both stream and record in 1080p but the s version allows 4k passthrough which means that a 4k signal can go into the card and then leave the card to a separate screen that's also in 4k and then the usb connection will go to your pc and that will be 1080p 60fps i will also link them both in the description now to go live on twitch youtube facebook or any other platform you will need to install a program called obs studio you can download it for yourself on obs project.com once installed you should look for it in your start menu then right click it and then pin it to the taskbar then right click it there right click obs studio and then go to properties advanced and select automatically run as administrator doing this will prevent a bunch of performance issues it's like a blue build for obs studio now before we can launch obs to start setting up our stream we need to make sure that the console is connected to the capture card and that the card itself is plugged into the computer in usb 3 port let's turn on the ps4 or whatever console you're using and now let's launch obs studio you will get a quick setup wizard but you can click on cancel because this is for later just make sure that when you go to settings video that both of these dropdowns are set to 1920 by 1080. the reason i want you to select your resolution before adding things like your game your webcam your graphics is that if you add all those things first and then you change the resolution everything will need to be rescaled and that can be let's say slightly annoying so now we click on the plus icon in these sources then go to video capture device click this drop down and if everything is working then you should see your capture card right here if you don't see the card then try another usb port and make sure it's usb 3. also when plugging in your capture card make sure that you wait for windows to install your device so then after selecting your card in this drop down click on ok and then right click the video capture device in the sources and then choose transform fit to screen and you've probably seen it already but my preview screen is completely black my game capture isn't being imported and maybe does the same thing for you this can happen because consoles have protections against illegally recording things like movies or netflix xbox only blocks the signal if things like netflix that shouldn't be recorded or actually opened on the console so if that's the case and you have a black screen just close everything down restore the xbox maybe reconnect it to your screen and then everything will work fine if you have a playstation then you will need to manually disable this protection and it's called dhcp dhcp or something else right hdcp the way you disable this is different for all playstations so i will add all the methods in the description let's restart the console and as you see right now it shows up in obs so back to explaining things for all consoles if your footage is choppy and lags like you see with this slider here then just test out other usb ports because when i switch mine then the lag is completely gone and it's very responsive even though they are both usb 3. okay so before talking about how to handle the stream and how to read your chat while being live we need to talk about your audio because this is where most people are stuck with console streaming getting your game audio to both your stream and your headset is not as hard as it seems instead of connecting your headset to your console like you normally do you just plug it in your computer instead because having no headset plugged into the console will make the game audio go through the hdmi and as a result of this both your console's gameplay and audio will reach a capture card and before continuing let's go to the settings first then to audio and let's disable all these audio devices doing this will clean up the mixer and then only our capture card's audio will remain because this is the audio that comes from the video capture device in our sources sometimes when you add a source here in the middle it will come with an audio source just like this video capture device if you don't see any audio sources here in the mixer and you've already added your capture card then you can go to the settings to audio and then add your capture card device right there as one of the mic aux sources when your console is running anything that produces sound like a game you will see that the video capture device in the mixer will be displaying sound levels that's good news because that means that our console audio is being imported in obs studio and that is going to our stream now our next step is making sure that we can hear that audio source too when you go to the advanced audio properties and you can change the monitor mode of the capture card audio source to monitor and output this will let you monitor the device's audio which is your game and which means that your game sound will be going to both yourself the monitoring and then to the stream the output and this is just perfect now the next thing we want to do is adding a microphone so that we can talk to our stream go to the settings on the bottom right then to audio and then add your microphone as one of the mic aux sources you will see that this will add your mic to the mixer and now the stream will hear both your game and your microphone and then of course because we are monitoring a game we will hear the game in our headset and we will obviously not hear our mic that's only for the stream when we add a second video capture device after the capture card we can select our webcam in this drop down it will get added to the sources and these work like layers so if your webcam is under the gameplay then drag it on top or you won't see it also pay attention to the fact that adding a video capture device like a webcam can possibly also add an audio source in the mixer if your webcam has a microphone built in unless you're using this built-in microphone to fall to your stream you want to make sure that you set the volume to zero when you select your webcam in the sources you can drag it around scale it by dragging the sides or the corners and when you hold alt on your keyboard you can also cut off one of the sides in case you want to change the aspect ratio now if you game on an extra screen then you will be able to manage your stream and read your chat on your computer screen that's probably next to it if you don't have an extra screen there is a workaround and i will go over that after this section because right now i'm gonna explain a useful plugin that everyone should install in obs studio it's almost a no-brainer and it's called obs doll live this is a plugin that will pull in your streams chat makes it easy to manage your stream and it will also be able to control some other stuff like your stream's title see your recent events like new followers and stuff like that you can go to obs dot live then download it right there and uninstall the plugin like a normal program after that you can restart obs and then you will be able to log in with your streaming account under the stream elements menu item you will find your activity feed which is follows subs donations and stuff like that and then also your streams chat you can just click on one of them and then drag it around to add a window of that in obs studio if you don't have a separate screen to game on and you only have your main pc monitor and you want to game on that one then you can right click the preview in obs and then go to full screen projector and select your monitor this will obviously hide your obs studio program so it will make it harder to manage the stream but you will be able to play your game in full screen and if you use the right usb port and it's fast enough then you will be able to play with almost zero input lag and just as a quick reminder i mentioned it already but make sure that you use the right usb port it should be blue it should be usb 3 and if your input lag is too high and you have a capture cord that promises almost zero input lag then try another usb 3 port because i have two of them and one of them gives me a lot of lag and the other one makes everything super smooth and super responsive now making your game full screen will obviously hide your chat and reading that while gaming is pretty important so there is a workaround you can go to stream elements.com then log in with your streaming account and then go to my overlays create a blank overlay make it 1080p and then click the plus icon to go to stream tools your streams chat and then position it on the top left or wherever you want your chat to appear on your screen while gaming then just save the overlay call it chat and then click on this button to copy the link of the overlay we just made now in obs add a browser source and then call that chat and then replace the url with the one we just copied make the resolution 1920 by 1080 the same as the overlay we just made online and then click on ok now right click the browser source go to transform fit the screen as a result of this not only will your viewers see the chat on your stream but you will too because you are maximizing the preview window and guess what the chat is on top of the preview window if you want to reposition the chat because it's overlaying stuff you can just reposition the source or you can go back to stream elements to my overlays then edit the chat overlay we made and then reposition or rescale it right there save it and it will also change in obs because it's being saved online and you're just importing it in obs with the browser source i will add guides for specific streaming services like youtube facebook or twitch in the description so you know which one you need to watch next to set up the rest of the things like graphics and alerts and then to get your stream online and when you set up the alerts you will also see them in the preview screen so that means that when you play full screen on your computer that you will also see the alerts while streaming so you never miss a follow and you never miss a chat message this video took a long time to make so if you enjoyed it please give it a like it really helps in youtube algorithm and placing a comment can be random helps even more thanks a lot for watching and i will see you in the next video have a nice day
