How to Start a Vanilla No Mods City in Hard Mode in 2021! (Cities Skylines Vanilla)

[Music] so [Music] so the question is can i play vanilla unmodded that's right no mods with my city skylines and still make a beautiful functional city after many many years of playing with all the mods that there are available to us on the steam workshop that is the challenge i'm looking to take this city all the way to megalopolopolis and along the way i am sure we will have lots of fun can i below and it will tell you how to use ultima eye candy and relight to make it look like this now i said no mods well there's no mods that affect gameplay i am just using i think three four five mods that just affect how the game looks so that is to help you and i enjoy this beautiful game even better but apart from that nothing nothing that changes the menus no extra roads no mods everything else exactly vanilla the same as playing on your console yes that's right so anything you see me doing you can do as well all i do have is all of the dlcs that are available i have every single one of those so we're gonna be making good use of those as time goes by and here we are the start of a brand new map i'm always a little bit nervous a little bit excited all the possibilities of playing on a brand new map that just looks as beautiful as this i absolutely love it yes i know some people snow is a love or hate thing but i want to make it work i do enjoy snow and we don't do that often so we've got the added challenge as you mentioned no mods at all so this is going to be really interesting i say no gameplay mods and i do have a couple of mods just for the visual aspect i will show you those before we start so achieve it i always have that because when you play with mods uh camera mods and map view mod first person camera mod the fps booster mods loading screen mod so we don't get all my assets loading in from other things uh model listing just helps you manage your mods uh patch loader make some mods work shadow strength adjuster sharp textures and ultimate eye candy which gives you the option for day and night and that sort of thing so apart from the visual mods effing ethernet house is gonna be a vanilla gameplay yes so very excited so just sort of thinking how we're gonna plan this out i think industry along the highway um which way is the water flowing this way so we want our sewage i'm going to try actually and we're not going to pump it into the river yeah let's go green i think that'd be a good idea and as always we've got ashton morgan street coming in here we need to unlock our first road there we go now we can delete that and now have a look at what we've got available to us so we've got a whole load of different ones here six lane one way is very big so i think we're going to start first of all with a roundabout at the beginning because why the heck not so let's pop that down there we go excellent and does it normally unlock i haven't played vanilla for so long i'm thinking do you normally get an option to have a roundabout at the beginning i'm a little bit confused but there we go we'll just go with the flow we'll go with the flow what have we got in here any industry roads yeah i think what we're going to do is use the gravel roads at the moment until we can upgrade things and spend some money so let's do that let's bring some of these out and just get a little bit of industry going in here and why not let's just do some basic grids for the industry there we go that will help us out and then over here i would like our people to move in down the front here and enjoy this lovely frontage area so i'm just thinking if we could sort of do something like this through these trees there we go that's a lot of money spent on trees and then we'll bring this one in down here and we'll hook this in as well so i can't remember the last time i actually played with mods it was so long ago um yeah i'm actually pretty excited to see how well i do without them um and whether we can make this city a success so i don't think i'm necessarily going to go for the green stuff first of all so we've got the inland water treatment plant you know we want to sort of uh yeah let's put that on the main road over there the way now we can enjoy fresh drinking water and we have the option of the water tower i don't want that anywhere near the industry but i think what we're going to do is get that in the middle here and i'd like to try if possible to really get that thing lined up so if we go like that and then down here we can pop that schmuckers bangers in the middle there which would be fantastic so let's get our water pipes hooked up in this new area [Music] there we go that should give us some water i was going to drop the taxis down there but we can't yet so we'll stick with what we've got and the only option we've got here really is a coal power plant and there's a lot of winds that can come in down here but i think we'll just go for the coal power plant get this humming away nicely yet we'll pop that off a side road as well and then we're going to need to run some power to all of these lovely items so let's just run that straight into there if we go like that and we can run this down the main road and that's gonna hit where our first people are and we have a huge need so let us start i think we're gonna try and sort of keep these people maybe away from right up against the river for now yeah we're not going to have you there i think that should be okay get a teeny tiny house on that one nope not at all and then we'll get a little bit of commercial maybe in the middle here just a spot we never need that much and then fill that in and then we'll get some industry over here for the jobs we're going to sort of surround these and those there i think that should be good and then just keep an eye on the sort of thing that we're going to get growing in here there we go it's filling in nicely which is good how are we doing up here no industry yet but we've got plenty of power plenty of water and to get to our first milestone we need a population of 440 so we are definitely gonna need more expansion on top of this so let's continue this all the way down here to the end and then what i would like to do is start adding in something here we've got this other road that comes off here so let's bring this one out as well and we'll keep things going full speeds two of the last fair pharaoh found in the valley of the kings okay excellent and that is going to continue i would say till there then we're going to sort of curve this round to hit straight into there there we go so we've got another little area excellent let's take some of these houses off of that now i am worried i mean you know traffic and there's so many things that i'm used to using mods for have we actually had any people moving 137 people moving us haven't seen all the cars coming in that's that's why i ask i suppose they'll probably turn up at some point let us then fill in this area here and i'm thinking instead of going out 10 i'm gonna add a couple more in so we can sort of fit a path in not enough money well there we go that's about as much as we're gonna do yikes man we're losing so much money well i'll tell you what we're gonna do what are we up to 160 i think we just need to fill all of this in let's go down here with as many people as we can and then we can start changing things and monkeying around with things when we actually get some more money so let's fill all of that in yeah and let's just see what happens here come the cars the people are moving in on our snow covered roads but they are gonna absolutely love it here i guarantee it oh we're so close we're losing so much money but we're so close to the first target we just need less than 60 more people to help us oh because we can't even put water pipes in for some of these people that are moving in down here yikes are we gonna make it are we gonna make our first milestone oh my goodness me this would be absolutely terrible ah something i forgot to tell you we are also playing on hard mode i may have mentioned that in the introduction hard mode to effort inc costs more we get less money from taxes yeah so that might be why it's been such a difficulty to get to our first milestone on barely a second or two later oh it needs to be 440. oh barely a second or two later we've managed it we've done it so taxes loans garbage healthcare all sorts of things so let's just slow it all down a minute let's just slow it all down and let's just work out what we're doing so first of all i'm going to get water down this road for these lovely people that have decided to move in you may not be keeping your houses down there we'll see we'll see how it goes and i wasn't going to have people living on this main road but for now let's not complain too much so first of all let us dive in to our budgets um i probably could have done this before we've got tons of power and we've got tons of that's the road we've got tons of power we've got tons of water um so i'm just wondering whether we could drop these down no not that much and save ourselves a little bit of money as to do that one at 80 as well yeah and that should be fine water's always a big one um and then taxes i'm gonna pop that up to 11 because i'm pretty sure they're gonna be happy to pay that and that is certainly going to help nobody complaining excellent good so let's give these guys a girl some services because they are immediately going to be complaining about a lack of services and this little bit over here is going to be where we pop our trash so let's bring that out and that up to there and that's far away from everything else as possible there we go you can get into the city that way uh we don't have offices yet do we know so i'll tell you what why don't we put some more of these around here you seem to be happy to come and work there and we have not enough money for the schools in the healthcare but i think the trash is the biggest one so that is going to be working lovely we're going to get snow dumps as well which we'll need to keep an eye on uh they will be over here so 40 a week cost 6250 yikes well we're making money we're growing so i'm happy with that the next level is 900 so that shouldn't be too far any downside with these connections i've got here is i would ideally like some sort of asymmetric road bucks they've not been unlocked yet what we could also do is upgrade just a couple of these we can upgrade this to one way in they can always go up here as well if they want i was going to make this a one way out like that way around like that so they can go up there go around and come out i think that'll be fine we'll we'll see how that goes just to help them out a little bit excellent and we do need some more industry so what i think i might do then is just go back to our standard little rural road that we've got and can i fit another one in there i can and then this one is going to sort of run along the highway and but i don't want to go too far obviously because we're spending money so maybe just along there for now oh we've got ten thousand i'm about to use a load of that to put water pipes in darn you there we go excellent uh what is the next amount that we could do with for a medical clinic 12 500 a score would be 12 500 okay so let's keep an eye on that yep there we go more people moving in excellent let us speed things along i just think this would be a beautiful place to live look at that with these imposing mountains all around you oh it's going to be lovely we can do a lot of work on the river here get some lovely parks i'm not quite sure where the farmland's going to be i think this sort of this sort of hue to the white down here is going to be farmland so we'll we'll see how that goes or industry there we go we didn't actually put any in so we're going to have that all the way along the highway along the back there there we go excellent and we may even do this little bit as well but we'll see how that goes yeah all 12 000 13 000. excellent what should we go for first i reckon we want to get people starting to go through our system of schooling or auto save quick sympathy ah lovely and i'm thinking if we pop this in over here there's gonna be another road connection through here for sure so let's just have a quick look at our grid so i was just talking about making the grid a little bit bigger so we've gone out longer here than normal so we can start putting walking paths in between when we get those i'm gonna do the same here as well uh and then if we go out 10 11 12 there uh yeah let's continue that road road guidelines that's what i'm missing there we go like that and then this road can connect over here um yeah let's go like that and let's just swing that around i'm going to lose the shot unfortunately but that's okay just pop a couple of those back in there and there and i think that one and that one feels like it needs to be a shop in this little area so now we can add our school in over here and that's going to have an air effect a lot of these places will be able to get here i'm going to pop it let's pop it right on the corner there there we go mayor supports education citizens approve no more homeschooling oh yes we've all done a lot of that haven't we over the past year and a half gotta love it um yeah there's some more up there so i'm not gonna add any more in what do we need to get to 900 wasn't it what else did we get educational on campus areas oh okay the snow dump oh that's what i was thinking of that is going to cost us too much money and now we need some more power okay so let's up this back up to a hundred and take a look water's fine electricity is fine yeah everybody is doing fine oh you don't have any water pipes do you well you're probably not doing fine then the poor kiddie winkies cannot wash their hands oh man you want to make sure you can wash your hands worthy village no we're flying through this this is this is good we can unlock a new area if we so desire districts policies loans emergency services now we get forestry and agriculture so i would like to move over to those as soon as possible let's just hook this up first you're not gonna let me go into that okay go there then that'll be fine so maybe let's have a look let's have a look at if we can see where our resources are right okay so now we can see the resources everywhere so we have access first of all to forestry oh they actually need to get the population of what was it actually giving us then the specialization oh so that was this one in the district uh it was giving us this specialization right well we can still see where the so far along here some oil in the middle and i think oil is actually harder to get so the farming is 1400 or 2400 oil 4400 and yeah um forestry is 1400 as well dash darn it so we could put trees in and make our own forestry or we could just have farm in here we've got a little bit of forestry there maybe have them running alongside each other that could be quite good yeah that might be interesting uh we don't have our industry but yeah if we keep this in mind then that could be quite good but what are we gonna name some of our zones so let us get in here some zoning [Music] yeah i think we'll leave it at that for now so we probably could do with some name ideas or any names you've got for our city first of all it's springfield we want a tea related snow related name ice tea i don't know maybe that's something we've done before but you could let us know about that in the comments below that would be great oh we can build our snow dump but also we had some other services didn't we let's get those in first um again this is a central-ish location so let's go for our fire there now we can't afford anything else so let's use the money we do have for making our grids and such that might be a good idea then we can start filling this in so let's turn off road guidelines in fact i think whatever the size that is that's going to go all the way across to there there we go excellent so we're ending up with sort of like a little square in here which i quite like i quite like that now we've got our snow buildings that we have available to us our winter buildings unique buildings we don't have access to parks or paths or anything yet so we want to sort of keep all of that in mind as time goes on i'm thinking this little area here is actually going to change i'm going to take back your houses and we are going to set all of this up as a little area where you go shopping and then we can get some more houses in over here instead let's fill that in there we go i think that'll be nice we could get some more houses over there this is going to have other services in when we get some money how much do we need for this fifteen thousand we're almost getting there oh dear we're starting to get complaints about crime complaints about crime over here are we not quite at 50 they've left look and the reason they left was because crime rate was high we are so close to being able to afford ah that's our firehouse ah here we go excellent let's just pause that before anything which is the smallest one that's a nice one we're gonna go for that one that is also gonna nudge up against the school where everybody rejoices and now hopefully nobody will uh disappear and i love the way these buildings look in the snow i just think they look absolutely fantastic so let us take a look at our roundabout over here now one of the things that we're going to be missing is traffic manager i absolutely love traffic manager we do not have it so the only things we have access to are stop signs for our roundabouts which i think we're gonna we're gonna do that but then as time goes on i'm probably going to adjust the way this works do you know what i'm actually going to do it right now let's just pause this a second and of course i've got no anarchy so i'm just going to drop draw that right across there to try and hold this together but i'm not going to be able to am i oh that is annoying how much money to relocate that let's relocate that somewhere else not enough money space already occupied oh darn it because what was going to do okay we have to wait until we've got some more money so i was going to bring these in as one-way roads go in each direction but actually i would have to just wait aren't we because we also don't get the dedicated turning lanes off either which is a bit of a bummer which we might be able to finagle a bit once we do get some more rows we'll have to see how things go but the stop signs there i think we'll just have to go with those for the moment um what else have we got just make sure we've got no weird traffic lights set up anywhere i don't think we need any uh i mean that could have a stop sign coming down there and the same as this one as that's going to be a main road keeps that this main road here flowing and let's have a look up here nothing at the moment let's just leave all the rest of it oh and down here this one yeah i think that'll be fine for now excellent so we're working our way up to 1400 and then we just get an absolute rock ton of stuff so let's keep on expanding we have a big need for expansion so why not let's just pop some houses in there all the way down there i want to keep that free you are not moving in there okay you're going um do we need this power cable running down here no we don't excellent so that's going to go because this power has jumped all the way over excellent so now we can start filling in at some of these other little spots i mean this is sort of coming down what is going to end up being a main road but i think this is going to still stay quite small this area so i think we'll be all right we probably don't need this one over here either no let's get rid of this one there we go yeah that's all connected up all the way along there excellent and these guys are now complaining about lack of power i don't even move the cables i didn't do anything else uh let's just go to 14 for now and water's fine okay cool and then we're gonna just fill in some of these gaps and let's have a look i feel like i want to leave some open spaces for parks but we also really need some people this is like a huge block isn't it let grab our road here and i'm gonna split that one in half let's go up one yeah like that so we've got a space for a path through there and then this down here and they should all be covered in water so we should be okay yeah water's fine just making use of the space that we've got the same up here we're gonna go all the way to the end and we're gonna fill that one in and then yeah this is definitely going to be a park so maybe we need to expand a little bit down here need some more shops could we add some more shops in here as well i'll tell you what let's grab this one and we're going to actually end up destroying a few things but that's fine i'm gonna go up like that but we can just have a few more shops around this like that just gives us a little bit of stomach extra and then this little area can be a park yeah i think that'll be okay right so expansion i want to keep most of this i'll say most of that for industry but our industry is going to end up being down here so actually thinking about that maybe let's expand out here now i'm deliberately offsetting things so we've got these two rows coming down here and i'm going to leave a nice big bit of space and we're going to offset this road this way and we're going to come out as we said 11 12 and that's going to go straight down into there yep that's good and then what we could even do is add that into there and we've still got space for roads at the paths around there i'm gonna really come back here and increase the ability for people to walk around but that's really gonna help our traffic and there we go i mean just fill all of that in stop complaining about electricity it's going to be an ongoing thing isn't it so i reckon what have we got not enough money i was going to say let's try to help with that no we can't because we just can't afford it so we're going to do some force economy because it's the only thing we can do unless we take a loan what do you reckon what do you reckon twenty thousand sixty thousand we're going to take the sixty thousand that's what we're going to do and then we're gonna increase our ability to make electricity with another one of these now where's this one going to go we're going to spread this one out and this one's going to come up here and at some point we'll start using better roads and we'll upgrade our roads but for now this is what it's going to be so we're going to have that coming along there and going down there there we go and you are going to be off the side road there how hard is it to have a working power grid well it's obviously flipping very hard because i'm the one who's trying to do it there we go so we can probably drop that down a little bit save a little bit of money and yeah let's up our water as well excellent so already i'm missing mods because i would be sort of maybe you could say you could have an auto power mod you know there's all sorts of things you could do so you wouldn't have to sort of jump through these hoops to get things working but that's the way it is uh let's have a quick look so how did i not put health what's this police station fire station school i'd not put a health building in a medical clinic oh my goodness me all right we're gonna drop that in i thought i had i completely missed that one emergency services we've got that one we've got that one we've got the school and we have the community school don't have the high school yet no so i'm not going to spend any money on that there we go tiny town a population of 1400 we get so much stuff policies landscaping oh man i haven't got unlimited soil anymore um that is going to be a bit of a bummer uh park some plazas loads of policies okay loads of new roads paths our flood wall canals excellent fences what have we got new buildings parks public library high school all ski lodge all sorts of nice cool things in there nice nice nice what should we go for first i would like to put in some sort of park here um let's have a look at the winter parks and plazas what do we have we have a snowman park that's quite small ice sculpture park a sledding hill a curling park skating rink ski lodge we're trying to put that up a mountain cross country skiing park oh that is huge um and what's this one here the fire pit park oh i love the look of that let's go for the fire pit park i bet everybody was happy about that we missed it yeah i'm sure everybody was oh look at this at the back of the school the little kiddie winkies can come out here and enjoy the fire pit park that we can actually check there we go our leisure i want to check the land value it's gone up a little bit down here not amazingly huge uh what's the area of effect on that it's actually not very big is it but for now we shall go with that i'm also thinking we could probably do some shops just over here i'm gonna take that section there and make that shops there we go do we have access to our paths we do hooray so pavement path bicycle path that is the one i want to try and add but what we're going to do first let me just think all of these i reckon are going to be turned into bicycle roads anyway but we've got all sorts of options down here to connect things up so we're going to unfortunately destroy some houses all of our little dead ends that we've got that can just come straight through like that excellent uh this here i would like some sort of connection through here so that is going to come up let's do it this way round let's do this one this way round there we go okay what i'm going to do here is i'm gonna swing this right through your house i'm so sorry how far can i go there we go and i'm gonna do the same over here sorry not sorry right up to that junction and then i feel like i want a connection over here so we're gonna come in the back yeah that's annoying isn't it uh i'm gonna delete that and delete that see anarchy straight away would have been my choice of choice of things there but there we go so now we can do that now we can do that there we go excellent and now we have access to trees and things as well nice nice nice let's get some nice conifers down here to line this nice little cycle path that we've got there we go i think that looks nice already missing prop line tool i'm going to be mentioning all these mods that i'm missing as time goes by but yeah we'll be fine we'll be fine uh i feel like this should be another connection over here these people are crying out no not my house but yes it's going to go right through the middle there and i'm wondering whether this should be a thing every time we put a bike lane in we've just got to put some nice trees around it as well just to make it stand out that little bit more any other obvious sort of connections i think that is probably okay for now do we have access to bike enabled roads we don't just like we're not hardly unlocking any so two lane with grass two laneway with trees bicycle lanes four thousand four hundred population good gravy well let's see if we can give our kitty winkies some extra educational options we now have access to the high school this is the rather large one so let's go for the small one unfortunately it's not going to fit in there oh we got our first snow of our new map ah look at that i love it i absolutely love playing the snow maps oh just looks brilliant just looks brilliant so i'm now wondering whether this instead of this being a park we could have our high school take up this little area here i think that would actually be quite nice so let's grab our road i might as well use this road and what i want to do is go yeah straight through over there pop our high school there nestled nestled i say and then i did want to put maybe a little let's have a look if we've unlocked it yet yeah tennis court which way around is that gonna face the wrong way round that's probably gonna destroy i'm like spending money we haven't got now but i want to make it look nice if i take that out like that yeah that will go up against there and then it just means we need to put our parts back in again whoops uh let's just see what we can do oh we're getting a thunderstorm as well things are really getting bad let's bring that down to there there we go excellent hope that doesn't cause any damage in our city where is the thunderstorm can't see it [Laughter] excellent oh this is looking nice i like this we just need to replace these trees again let's just pop those back in yeah in this house here please don't take away my trees oh the trees don't come back oh it's because they've moved in okay there we go excellent and probably it could do with the same on that side there we go we keep the trees i wanted to put a little path connection here um now normally again would have anarchy that in from there to there i don't think there's any way that is going to fit in there so what we're going to do is come off of here and just go like that there we go so we get access to that one and we've got our high school we've got our nice little tennis court things going on here um let's just remove those trees and those trees because houses are gonna move in yeah i think that looks fine pine street very nice very nice [Music] so the snowstorm has finished but that's left us with a problem our roads are now covered in snow so what can we do to deal with that we have our snow dump what's this one here road maintenance depot don't get that one yet that's gonna cost six thousand and they will send out snow plows to clear streets of snow when the snowplow was full comes back to the dump and it will continue that is quite a large building i don't want that coming straight off onto there so this little area here seems the perfect place for it let's pop it down there there we go already comes filled with some nice snow and there go the snow dumps the snow plows sorry [Music] and there he goes heading into the city so it's hard to see from that view but if you go on to our roads we can look at the coverage and the condition aha so these ones have already been plowed which is fantastic let's come out of that view and do it this way there we go excellent and as he works his way along very good he's cleaning up all of the snow is gonna head up here yep that means people are gonna be able to drive faster and safer in our city cool [Music] and barely a moment or two later our residential area is in perfect condition and he's just going to get those last couple of little bits at the top there in our industry and we're all fine all the snow has gone perfect right so let's have a look what else could we add i feel like we need some more parks and more expansion over here so let's just expand this area over here a little bit more there we go and just before they all move in uh let me get some bike paths here can i squeeze one through the middle here oh just just just just and then if i go like that ah there we go that is fantastic i don't think this place here is going to be so lucky so i don't know what we're gonna do just gonna go right through the middle of his house and yeah there we go good luck and then over here we definitely need a park um what about a curling park over here next to let's go in there because we've got some shops there haven't we yeah let's pop that down next to our shopping area that looks cool and i like that something a little bit different i want to try and use these different things that we've got and then what i might just do is just change this area a little bit so that's going to be shops that's going to be shops and that's going to be shops and that one and that one and that one so it's sort of in a little mini complex yeah i think that'll be okay very nice so as we're going along oh we're expanding nicely what is our next target was it 2400 oh and then we get some really cool stuff look transport ferries taxis post oh yes learn all about that and a load of new roads this is the one i want the highway ramp nice nice and heating oh they're immediately gonna want to be covered with heating pipes aren't they okay excellent well we'll get to that when we get to that now i want to keep an eye on our education so eligible and capacity we are sort of filling up our capacity now so we're going to have to start doing some more of those high school will be fine for a while university we don't have yet public library we don't have yet now that is always worth putting down if you can afford it because it helps those in the area around the public library they have a small bonus to their education levels they can jump up a level so if you can afford it worth doing definitely i think we're going to pop an elementary school over here i want to just sort of get that maybe right opposite the curling rink in amongst the shops i think that would be good and a little teeny tiny trick i don't know where i picked this up from but i always add an extra one percent if i'm keeping anything on 100 i just make it 101 because you get a whole new vehicle out of it for or extra capacity for very very little outlay so i'm going to just do that for everything there we go and i'll do it for the same of these so you'll get an extra bus which sometimes you want sometimes you don't want but anyway for very little out outlay it gives you a nice boost in the city so as we said before we now do have our forestry and our farming um so i am thinking if we come down here and look at our paint our industry area i really think we want to get forestry and farming going so i mean this could be a small little farming community even up sorry forestry up to there and then farming could be through here there is quite a few little spots where there's quite a lot what can't go outside like that and sort of have those working next to each other would that be an interesting thing to do it would mean perhaps removing all of these houses that are down here there we go like that and how would we set up our roads coming through here if i could just put on that hmm so this road here could continue on along the coast and that one would work okay and of course we can always add more trees around that as we need them and then maybe this one here um if we get our industry zones we can see what we're doing uh our districts i should say can i still do that and draw a road yes i can so this one is gonna turn up to here i'm sort of maybe just going to run it down the middle and we'll see how that goes something like that and maybe try and keep them both as a separate separate thing i don't know we can we can give this a try see what happens we're only about to do one at a time because it's gonna cost us so much money and we've already spent all the money that we've got darn it so we just need to wait for more money to come in what are you complaining about down here let's just take a look at you hello you how are you not enough educated workers well we're working on that haha we've added in the ability for more people to be educated so it is just a waiting game well let's just try and get up to our next target which is 2400 we need some more industry for people to work so we're going to pop that in um i am going to expand this area down here we sort of jump between the road types that we've been using but that's fine um we're gonna i think it's gonna get upgraded at some point anyway that is gonna be really close to that junction there so i'm just wondering maybe we could just do something a bit different let's do that yeah that'll do that'll do let's add some water in there i'm wondering how close this is getting quite close to the industry behind us whether that is going to be an issue oh you haven't got water either let us just do that for you there we go no complaints um what is this have a look
