what's up everybody renfail here and I've got another video by special request from some folks asking how do you set up a multiplayer session does it matter if your friends are playing on steam or Gog can you have friends from Steam join you if you're playing on Gog or vice versa how do you get players into your game to come join you if you want your friends to hop in for little one-off sessions lots of things to consider with multiplayer sessions thankfully I've got a guide for you and that's what today is all about so without further Ado we're going to get in but before we go don't forget to like subscribe and hit that Bell icon so you never miss an update we do daily streams at 11AM Central Time lots of other games TV shows film reviews podcasts and Beyond happening on the channel so check out all the other playlists join the Discord links are down below let's get into multiplayer everybody get your friends into the game with you all right so first and foremost understand that it works exactly the same on the controller as it does with the mouse and keyboard the mouse and keyboard layout looks like this and you're going to see a multiplayer button right there that you're going to click on and it's going to bring up this window right here now it'll spin for a minute because it's finding lobbies that's normal and we're going to go ahead and back out of this and I'll show you what it looks like on the controller really quick as well we're going to hit the button switch the UI over go down to multiplayer and it's the same thing it's just a different UI so once it finishes finding lobbies you're going to see all these different games showing up that are public games you don't want to worry about those because we actually want to create our own multiplayer session so let's go ahead and do this on the mouse and keyboard because I think it's a little bit easier to set up because there's going to be a few things you have to do if you want to blend your friends from Gog and steam at the same time so first and foremost you're going to want to click the multiplayer option right here this is assuming for example that you want to start a game from scratch with your friends then you would start from the loading screen here it's a little different if you want to load a game and have your friends join you and we'll be showing that here in a few minutes so click the multiplayer button let it find lobbies do its thing the first thing you're going to want to do once it's finished loading is you're going to go over here and you're gonna say I want to create a session now that's going to be down here in the bottom again the UI is a slightly different with the controller but it's the same thing click the create button this is how you create a multiplayer game where you're all starting from the beginning of the game on the nautiloid if you've never played the game before you're going to load in just like you would for a single player session and you're going to be presented with this window again looks slightly different on the controller let's go ahead and hit the controller button to switch over it's again same layout here so let's go ahead and right click the mouse button switch it back to mouse and keyboard so you can see the differences here now it's showing your screen right here as well as three additional options now it says here invite friends well what if you have friends on Gog or friends on Steam how does that all work well here's the show version when you go to invite friends it's only going to invite friends on the platform that you own the game on so if you own the game on Gog it's only going to invite friends from your Gog list if you own the game on Steam it's only going to allow you to invite friends from your steam list if I were to click this I don't own it through Steam I own it through Gog so if I were to click this button right now it's not showing anybody because I don't have anybody online right now that's fine but what do you do if your friends aren't uh on the same platform how do you get everybody into the game when you've got like one or two friends on Steam and one or two friends on Gog that's really easy you're gonna go over here and there's a button that says direct connections you're going to want to turn this on before you do however make sure that your online visibility is turned to either friends only or invitation only so that no one you do not want this on public because you do not want people to see your direct connection code so let's just say put it on invite only we're going to click direct connections once you click direct connections it's going to give you a server ID you can take this copy this to your clipboard or just hit you know control copy whatever but control control C get this copied and then paste that link to your friends and they will be able to join regardless of which platform they are playing on because it doesn't matter at this point because they're connecting to your session with a server ID number now that's why it's important that you do not share this with anybody in the public because you don't want randos joining your session so once you do that you'll notice that your friends will join here because I'm doing this you know independent of a multiplayer session it's no one's showing up right now but if you've ever watched one of our multiplayer sessions you'll see um like mujin and Babylonia in these slots so once they've joined everyone will have a button to say that they're ready once all four people are ready you can then click the launch button and that will push you right into the game now again this is what you do if you're starting a game from scratch but what if you're picking up on the one of the sessions you've already played what if you're picking up where you left off the last time so I'm gonna go ahead and return to the main menu here and there's a couple of different things to consider here one is which if we go ahead and click this I'll show you here what we've got going on and if I go into this and I do the drop down here I've got a couple of sessions I gotta find air real quick uh that's my sorcerer build here's the multiplayer hard save so if I were to load this game right here um this is a session that we've been playing on Tuesdays with myself Babylonia and mujin so if I were to load this session which we're gonna do right now let's take a look at what this looks like now we only have three people playing multiplayer so in this session um I'm controlling the fourth member of our party if you've never played multiplayer before and you only have two or three other people um how do you get the control of that additional character or characters to switch between people it's really simple that it's basically just the person who recruits the NPC into the party is the person who controls the NPC so if you are a player character and you want to get you know lizelle into the group or car like into the group you need to be the one who recruits that person either at the camp or from the world because it's always based on who recruited them to get into the party if you want to switch control of that character to someone else you have to um tell them to you know stay at camp and then whoever wants to control that character needs to be the one that talks to them so in this case I'm renfail and I'm controlling carlak uh to zako Patek is babylonious character and mujin is mujin's character now right now because they're not in the game with me um technically they're here in the camp with me but if I wanted to have them join the session I first because I'm the host of our multiplayer game I need to load this multiplayer session and then I need to go in to the if you hit Escape here there's a session button you're going to click that session button and this is the UI that's going to show up it's the same thing with the controller I'll show you guys real quick if we switch over to the controller UI it's pretty much the exact same thing now right now it's showing all four characters as being controlled by a renfail what's really cool about this is because you're inviting your friends again it's the same thing you can invite your friends here or you can go up here to session manager and you could draw to the drop down and go to direct connection and you're going to get this ID now the ID is different every single time you play it's not the same ID for every session so you'll need to do the direct connection ID every time you go to have your friends join you if you have friends who are Blended from Gog and steam if your friends are all on Steam then you're going to be able to use the invite but invite friends button if they're all on Gog you'll be able to do the same thing but they have to be online once they join this should automatically assign the multiplayer character to the person who created it so that once like mujin joins his character will automatically move over here um and you know Tech whose name I'm going to butcher over and over again we'll go over to Babylonia and these two would remain for me and then you just hit apply and you're good to go but that's how you do um from a multiplayer session that you've already played and you want to get your friends back into it and pick up where you left off but remember the host is the one who controls the session so if you're the host you need to be one doing this not someone else because if they won't even be able to see their characters once they've quit the session because the host is the one who has the file and the save file but let's take a look at what it looks like if you're just playing your single player game and you want someone to join you from there as well so we're gonna go back to the main menu actually I should have just loaded the game that's my fault for clicking the wrong thing here guys um got ahead of myself it's early in the morning I need more coffee but you could you just load into your uh session we're gonna go ahead and take care of that um and that way you guys don't have to watch my loading screens what's up everybody quick commercial break here to give it a shout out to our Guild Champions who are the highest tier memberships here on YouTube Ancient entity assassin gamer 94 Babylonia Rising crazies relative mujin and remedy thanks so much for the highest tier membership and thanks to all of the members who support the channel because you keep me doing this full-time you too can become a thanks on any upload or YouTube short whatever you can contribute it's great keeps me on the air full time keeps the cats fed keeps the homestead running anyway back to the video everybody all right so here I am in one of my single player sessions this is the Druid that I've been playing through on my live streams and the easiest way to do this it's exact same as the other one you go in here you hit Escape bring up the menu go to session and from here you can invite your friends the exact same way that you did it in the multiplayer session um how the difference here is that these characters will not be Auto assigned to people when they join so you know do your friends only or your direct connection ID whatever you need to do once you see your friends icons showing up in these spots up here you can then drag these characters over I can't do it right now because I don't have anybody joining me but you would click this character drag it over here click Gail drag it over here click Shadow heart drag over the fourth one everyone will then have a character to play if you only have you know one other person joining you and they're in in this number two slot you would you know drag one character or two characters or three characters over to them however many characters they want to control three four it doesn't matter all you got to do is just remember once you see their icons showing up here you can then drag and a character over to them assign it click apply and you're good to go so that's how you can get people quickly into your um your single player sessions as well so if you've got a friend or a loved one a spouse significant other whatever who wants to join you for a random you know drop in kind of like a lobby-based type of thing where they want to join for a one-off adventure and they just want to come hang out with you for a few hours this is how you do it they can quickly come in take control of one of your characters and play it accordingly so there you have it everyone that is the quick and easy way to create setup or join a multiplayer session regardless of where your friends are playing they can be playing on Steam they can be playing on Gog you can blend them together it doesn't matter you can you know have them join in directly from your friends list depending on the platform or you can use the correct connection ID easy to set up easy to jump in and play multiplayer is a ton of fun in Boulder's Gate three so if you haven't had a chance to try out multiplayer yet I highly recommend you do we're doing our sessions on Tuesdays I know our normal streams my normal streams that are 11 A.M Central every day but our multiplayer streams happen at 3 P.M Central on Tuesdays so if you want to tune in and watch those happen you know the
