Have All The Upgrades Been Worth It? Trail Hero Shake Down

so it's another day working on the banana here and we are in a rush this is the last week that we have before operation golden nugget what we've got to do this week is we've got to get the front bumper mostly finished we're still waiting on a part for it this much of the bumper we're going to get painted we are going to mount the winch we're going to mount some tires right there and i'm gonna finish the exhaust tips i'm gonna make some headlights work i guess oh yeah we gotta do the drill drill in the headlights we got plenty to do so we're gonna get all this stuff done and then we're gonna take it on a shakedown run because monday morning we are going to be on our way to operation golden nugget in the sierra nevada's and we're going to be using this for real this time okay so trevor what's first paint i'm gonna paint this i've got it mostly prepped gotta tape a couple things throw some rags on some stuff and then i'm gonna give it a couple coats so while trevor is painting the front bumper lizzy and i are gonna work on the exhaust tips so i'm harvesting some pieces that i need out of some pieces i don't need you're probably wondering what's going on here and i don't blame you all right so the plan for this is this is the exhaust turn down this will go inside it like that and up inside the tailpipe a little bit and we're hoping that this will cut down on the sound a little bit i don't know what else to do the exhaust is kind of being shot into the back of this bumper which is not ideal so this was never the plan to leave this like this what i did was i tucked these up as high as i could and now we're going to cut out the bumper to make these fit that's the plan now you're going to watch us do it [Music] i wonder if that'll come out of there the answer is yes so this would be a tail a little tailpipe to turn down so that's what we're going to be doing for tailpipe right there and this will go on the inside of it for some sound attenuation and that should make it quieter will it make it quieter i don't know we're going to test it though all right that's going to make it quieter trevor sure i mean yes it will make it quieter [Music] this is so loud it's got three mufflers on it okay i'm going to do one more thing if it doesn't work we're just going to put it together and go with it till it drives us so crazy that we do something about it later do you concur i concur it's for the noise to go in and get lost all right so we got two of them here they're identical the exact same amount of holes in some of the same places we're gonna give them a listen now ready yep so jeffy this sounds amazing when you rabbit and it sounds like garbage cans when it's idling just one and then right away just to pedal it everywhere i don't know i need twice as many holes twice as many huh not twice as many but a third more it sounds great unless we're idling and then kind of whistles when it's idling so okay that's all it gets that's as good as it gets sounds pretty good i'm gonna say that's good enough okay is that where that whistle is coming from what whistle oh [Music] i need to get the headlights hooked up okay [Music] [Music] all right another item down don't worry about those chrome headlight bezels they're not staying they're just temporary we've got some other ones we're going to paint when we get the whole thing painted these are just have to do for now good morning it's a new day we were not able to get this finished yesterday so i'm out here extra early in the shop but a few more things to do and then we are going to be taking this on its shakedown run out to the sand ins we're going to be doing a trail called the ledges bsf crew is going to be there i'm bleeping jeeps going to be there rory and trail mater are going to be there if you don't know who any of those are you will in a minute but here's what's going on so yesterday we got called off we weren't able to do this but there's some things left undone we don't have seat belts in here steering column's not bolted in quite tight fenders haven't been cut off the winch hasn't been mounted there might be some other stuff somebody left me a note right there i was hoping to get the tires mounted to the wheels it's not going to happen we're gonna have to go on those shop rollers and i'm gonna get after it so it is trail hero week that's why all these other youtubers and jeepers are in the area we're just planning on going out there and crashing the bleeping jeeps party so that should be fun all right that is that all right so we got the passenger seat belt installed i'm gonna put it over here and that seat needs to be bolted in a little bit better super strong all right so we got both of those seat belts in that'll be a little safer all right so the important thing is that i don't go above this line because i think this line is as close to as high as i want to go if you see me go above the line stop me that don't look bad well we're gonna find out if these rub today so these are 38 tires i'm planning on putting on are 37s so if these don't rub those won't rub in theory if those rub a little bit these ones might not rub still so let's put some recovery gear in here all right the first item of business is my trusty hitch here check out this banana pen i had a gentleman make that and send it to me soft shackles 20 foot by 7 8 30 foot long 7 8 inch diameter match recovery rope a bridle made out of scary scary chain morning lizzy good morning ink we're ready to do this let's let some air out of the tires all right lizzy just checked the lug nuts the rest of the crew's here and look who's back some of you might be wondering what's going on here i'm spooling up my brand new freedom winch line [Music] so i tried one of these freedom waste lines out on the morbear i've been using it i liked it so much i got one for the banana and i won't go back that's it okay we ready to go all right so we are here at the water tanks the banana's on its first shakedown run making sure it's ready for operation golden nugget we got rudy's jeep pepe's tanam trail mater's over there we've got the bsf wrecker we've got clifford we've got toby and we got john in his overlander the desert spider oh right there desert spider all right are we ready yeah let's go [Music] [Music] so [Laughter] i deserve it [Music] right there park rated [Music] [Music] [Music] is that all you got [Music] you're not used to going this slow oh and without a trailer in the daytime there's all kinds of weird things going on here i think we're going to have some jeeps in trouble here in a minute yeah yeah we've got a dip here that like i don't know if my jeep would go through it so what do you think rudy is everybody going to make it through i know i'm not going to make it through so then i'd like to be optimistic and think that everybody would make it through without any issues um but i've been on the trail before and the banana there's a pretty good chance the banana won't even make it through probably [Music] turn [Music] [Music] how you feeling about this one rory not bad we'll figure it out or put it on a side try [Music] boy i don't know i was watching roy there and it was getting pretty tippy i'm a little heavier than he is i got good spotters i'm uh putting my trust in them i hope it's the right thing to do little driver [Music] right good job [Music] all right so a lot happened between then and now it started raining and uh since this is a shakedown run on a partially finished jeep and trevor forgot to do it trevor there's no windshield wipers on here and the windows are all rolled down so it was a pleasant drive home next thing is tires and cut [Music] all right it's kind of a sober moment for us here at matt's off-road recovery many of you long-time viewers have been gotten very used to seeing the winter towing on the door of this jeep and it makes sense because i'm the owner of window towing and this was a towing vehicle however times are changing it's a new era and you know this channel is matt's off-road recovery we've got the shirts to prove it and the hats and the hats do you have yours just so with no disrespect to winder towing which is an amazing towing company if you're ever in the area need a tow you should call us but today we are rebranding the banana mats off-road recovery so for those of shakedown run of our partially completed build of the banana and it did flawless we have lowered the suspension one inch we increased the stuff for the the compression travel upped the tire size and we've added a hundred horsepower with this golden engine stroker and it all added up to this is a very different beast so now i have confidence that we are ready for operation golden nugget in the sierra nevadas we're going to be taking this rig i've already mentioned it before we need a small rig and this one's too big but it's the smallest one we've got so we just got to get packed up and head out there i'm super excited and thanks for watching
