ladies and gentlemen come on ladies and gentlemen michael palmisano here i've gotten text messages emails uncountable the past two days from my music friends and not music friends tell me i gotta check out this bo burnham welcome to the internet literally every type of person that i know seems to has have sent this to me and i pull it up on here and i see it's 12 on trending with 12 million views i don't know who this is i don't know what this is going to be but we're clicking it if you guys are new to this channel uh i do tend to start and stop if there's like a teachable moment trying to give you the broad strokes let's jump in welcome to the internet have a look around anything that brain of yours can think of can be found we've got mountains of content some better some worse if none of it's of interest to you you'd be the first welcome to the internet come and take a seat would you like to see the news or any famous women's feet there's no need to panic this isn't a test just nod or shake your head and we'll do the rest welcome to the internet what would you prefer okay i get it uh all right so you got this you got this uh i don't know what you would call this c below from the root the tonic right make that a major third to make your v chord function with leading tone function this wants to go here so it's about the leading tone going back to the tonal center i'm not a jazz guy and a lot of you jazz people watching out there will be like michael this is so elementary uh you know like why are you amazed by this well it's because i don't come from that world and as i'm starting to get more comfortable with you know modulations like this and these little um tools if you will to get from one key to another they begin to appreciate it you get to the spot where you are when you get there right it's life so switch to g to d major which now becomes that's your leading tone the five so you got one six two five then it switches up and does the descending thing but it's not on d again [Music] yeah now it's on e minor [Music] yeah what happens when you do this descending thing your e minor keep your g and your b on top and then what is this you're walking down to the major third c sharp of your a right and then that it was always the plan to put the world in your hands [Music] [Laughter] could i interest you in everything all of the time a bit a tragedy oh my god absolutely absolute genius um here's what i can say it's so incredibly thought out it's first of all extremely poignant right that is a hundred percent true would you like everything all the time uh apathy is a crime you know we need this to survive right i mean anybody that have kids like like i do i mean literally the fight is to make them be creative and figure out what to do with their minds they don't need everything all the time it is an absolute pandemic in its own right but the melody the voice leading all of the cool key changes switching from minor to parallel major connected with the lyrics with the melody changing with the actual shots in the video not just from where he's focusing but like the actual lights the way it zooms in and out it is so purposeful of course this dude has a netflix show it's way more than just the music bob or bo bo burnham awesome and for everyone that sent this to me thank you i hopefully this added a little bit Loved this. Coming from a somewhat musical background I had the same reaction as this guy (with much less knowledge of why than he does). My jaw was literally on the floor. It’s great to see someone who can actually pick it apart piece by piece. Thank you for sharing this!
