[Music] hello and welcome back to city planner plays where we are building the city of ashland in clearwater county and today we are going to continue to build out this city uh there's a number of things i want to get to i want to expand the farms build more residential properties build a grocery store um i want to build some hardware stores and a farm implement store so a lot of things i want to get to today but the very first thing i want to do is take a look at this this walmart because there's a problem with the parking this was pointed out in the comments a number of times i built the parking parallel to walmart rather than perpendicular and the problem is if you were leaving walmart and you were parked over here you'd have to walk around so that's why the parking wouldn't be situated in this particular way it would make the pedestrian experience much worse for most people so i do want to take a second and fix that so i'm going to eliminate everything within here right now [Music] okay so i got rid of a little bit more than i bargained for but that's okay one of the things that you'll notice is that the roads are not the same color that they were before so i had to make a choice between the road color changer and the planning the roads planning the road planning tool and what i decided was that i'd much rather have the road planning tool to me that's a really it's going to be a really important tool throughout this entire series and it's it's the kind of thing that that i've wanted so much that i actually included it on in in my wish list for for city skylines 2 video and so i i can't ignore that you know it's something i care about so we're going to we're going to have that in here so i am going to go through and upgrade the color of some of these roads as a result they don't really match now so be nice to to get these right okay so i do want to add in that entrance road but i'm gonna choose my locations carefully because again we're gonna go through and have one space in between and we're gonna do this all the way up and down so this almost looks salvageable so let's see if we can do anything with this okay i'm noticing that our day night cycle is on and i actually care about this so i'm going to show that in a bit but right now i don't want to to think about that so now we're going to use move it and we're going to make sure that we're not selecting our roads because i want to be able to to move this entire thing rotate it around move it down kind of cover up some of that walkiness it looks a lot better all right so now let's get our parking in place so very first thing we want to do is make sure that we have accessible parking [Music] we'll have that by both entrances now we can go through and quickly add our parking and i'm seeing that we have some some leftovers [Music] okay looking good looking very good now we do want to get our landscape islands in there and we're going to want to use our clipping remover just in these couple of weird spots okay so with our landscape islands i'm going to look those up again so we'll go for that large oval rotate it around let's look at it from the top so it's nice and even [Music] now i want to make a whole set here of of plants the planter and uh really have a nice a nice thing that i can replicate usually these are pretty much the same throughout um throughout entire parking lot so you'd expect that to be kind of very uh very i guess symmetrical throughout so what i'm going to do is i'm just going to have a couple of trees here and now the one thing i didn't add before was lighting to this so that's why i care about this we're going to make sure that we're going nice and slow and we are on our one speed so we're good there let's bring this tonight after uh well let's get some lights in there first [Music] so i'll shift p get my prop anarchy on so this avenue light might work all right let's see what else we have parking lot light oh i like this this kind of matches the lighting a bit more and it's an led you can tell by the by how bright it is so we're going to go with that perfect and then we want to have some other smaller bushes in between there as well let's close that and now we can clone this and all we do is go over here we can alt click or just hit this button right here [Music] look at how dark this is it's really difficult to see what's going on so again i think we're gonna have to go to a slightly lighter time of the day let's see what this looks like at night we've got a decent setup here now so you can see that there is a strip in the center here where we don't have light so i would look at that if i'm reviewing the plan for walmart and i say that's not good enough walmart you need to have a landscape island in a park kind of a row through here to break up the parking lot that said uh that is a significant amount of work for them they would probably fight that and i might lose it um but from a safety standpoint like you can see it you you come in here this is not ideal so um yeah we will uh we will let them get away with one right now but we might come to back that at another point in time but we do need to give them their second entry point because that from a public public safety standpoint would be absolutely mandatory so we've got that and that is much much better very good very good so the other thing i wanted to do over here so i plopped a mcdonald's we're not gonna plop a mcdonald's there i i've regretted that decision since i did it and it's probably not for the reasons that you're expecting the primary reason is i think there's going to be a lot of turnover of these businesses and i don't want this to become a plot fest over here where i plop this and then it it's there forever so like if we look at this jack in the box it's already abandoned so i would expect that the same thing happens over here quite often even though we have commercial demand it's gonna it's gonna turn over it's a difficult location so all right we've got this things are good we've got these trees in the road that's not not good welcome to clearwater county welcome to ashland and you are seeing trees in the road that's what we do around here speaking of trees in the road prop anarchy off so one of the things that oh and i want to see this is we'll come take a look at that in a second one of the things that i wanted to do was go back to the high school and to take a look at the lighting here so i realized that even though i included within the pack for the city uh in the one click collection for the episode the lighting for uh this this football field in the soccer field uh or football field and the baseball field i never actually subscribed so when you go in here and it was visible in the city tour for the last episode you come here at night and it was just pitch black so this looks a lot better now but one thing we are missing is again lighting within our parking lots so let's get some lighting in there again again this would probably be another candidate to break up the parking lot that might be something we go ahead and do at some point but today i just want to get this a little more reasonable okay that's much better and one way that you might accommodate that lack of lighting would be to add some additional lighting along the outside to ensure that it's it's well lit enough for everyone there's still this middle section that would be nice to have you imagine there be an island or maybe even just a light post maybe that's the way we kind of just get away with one we won't have a landscape island but we will make sure that the lighting at least covers the entire area because it's really important this is something that you know with every plan i review for a development you take a look at that phonometrics plan to make sure that there's an adequate lighting so that the pedestrian pads in parking lots are lit the last thing you want is someone to jump in a parking lot okay look at that and even at night this just looks more reasonable more realistic that's what you would expect to see a well-lit parking lot there's nowhere no way that you feel un uncomfortable nowhere at all in there maybe right here maybe you could see them being another set of lights through here and maybe moving this one over a bit but that's still not bad i'd yeah maybe i'd move this all over one parking stall but that's that's still pretty darn good pretty darn good so very pleased with that very pleased with this what i'm not so pleased with again is the color of the pavement so i think that we're going to make some changes there all right and there we go much better now that we're at the high school another thing i want to take a look at is this oh the gym must have a main gate because ashland is a high school is a is a park area let me see if i can fix that interesting so i have to have this in a park or it has to be on a roadside and the park has to have a gate so i think it might really get tricky here so what if i throw a park gate right here and then turn the fee down for this park to nothing unless it's a private school in the future which it won't be but that would be another way to fudge it i think so throw a small main gate in that will make the park free to go through and now can we uh relocate this [Laughter] that's ridiculous whatever works i mean i'm not gonna complain just one of those things that you know you're cheesing the game a bit there and it's fine all right so i want to get some of my leafy leafy foals oh i love those those are those are really attractive the other thing is there's this gap here in the pavement and i'd really love to eliminate that uh i think that the easiest way up to do it would probably be surface painter but i'm not sure that it's gonna work quite right because i can yeah that's probably not the best way to do it in this particular instance so let's search for concrete this is where prop line tool comes in really handy just kidding it's not going to come in really handy and this doesn't quite line up so what i might do let's just see we'll get this down to two and a half meters that looks a little better okay let's get back today i'm pretty much done with this that doesn't look perfect but it looks better no i don't know if it does look better i'm going to pretend it looks better and okay so it's not perfect but it does at least create some sort of a scene between the school and the parking lot behind it i could have done the same thing by sliding the parking lot but yeah that's that's that's a lot of work so we're gonna not do that so i think we're good in this particular school area uh the the next thing i wanted to do was related to the elementary school so someone pointed out that i don't have a fence over here and that's pretty unreas unreasonable and unrealistic i agree so i'll go with this that kind of a basic chain link fence and just kind of look at which one will fit the best hmm well that's not perfect you know what this is probably the most challenging way to approach this so i'll probably just go ahead and use some of the fences that i already have installed in the game even though they're not i guess i wouldn't say they're ideal they will work just fine i will need anarchy for this we're just gonna have to imagine that there's a gate over here so there should probably be a parking lot over here that was another thing that was mentioned in the comments for the teachers i do think i'm going to add that real quick we'll just get rid of these trees here and have a parking lot it's it's kind of a shame and a waste of a a waste of green space but it is absolutely necessary that teachers have a place to park this is going to be trickier than i thought because we'd have to build the parking lot like we do our other normal parking lots we don't really have much space so to do that we would have to look at having our road length and our grid and we're going up three units so yeah i'm actually starting to lean towards this not being a super rational thing to do i'm also looking at there being a lot of trees in the road for some reason and that's probably my fault for uh you know prop line and or prop anarchy so i just want to go in here and make sure i don't have anything on nope it's off perfect because the last thing i want to do is start creating those issues elsewhere in the community i want to go through the parking lot over here to make sure i didn't add it yeah nothing over there and nothing funky over here okay so we're good there now one of the things i'm really excited to show you is these new assets that were recommended in the discord server for the police department so we have this police department here and let's pause for a second and take a look at this police car so it says clearwater place this is uh the clear water a florida police car but it really fits in well into the city but this police department does not so let's unload that and let's look at our new assets and one of the things i'm really excited we got this rural police station and i think it actually fits in a lot better into the community than the police department that we had before so this will give us a little bit more developable land as well so that'll be a help and we'll get things moving here all those people leave and this has five police cars which isn't bad 20 holding cells so we're good there now the other thing i picked up is related to fire service so we have this fire station that has two trucks not really all that great we also have the ghostbusters station which uh is is fine and then we also had this rural fire station which i'm thinking of as kind of a a volunteer fire department and we have very poor fire coverage that is starting to freak me out so i'm gonna add one and what i think i'm gonna do is kind of have a rural road coming off here we'll have a fire station off from there let's turn on our topographic view because we know that we have some more challenges over here so begin the start of a rural road um i probably actually should be using something different for this i really like that but this is probably not the appropriate spot what i think i might do the big well let's see too many options so i think we're just going to go with a normal dirt road for some reason we're still having these tree issues i don't think oh i do have anarchy on shoot that'll do it all right so we'll have that there what i'm just gonna do is go ahead and we're gonna have a volunteer fire department over here we'll need to get some water pipes over here we'll cross underneath this area because it is it would be right away preservation right there and then we'll get some rural power lines going over this spot there we go and these trees would have to go because they would be a fire hazard and uh there's a sad irony to having a fire hazard near your rural fire department you're uh your volunteer let's let's make this the ashland volunteer fire station fire fire department there we go so we've got that and this is a neat little asset very utilitarian there's not a lot to it and that is exactly as it should be it's a volunteer fire department you wouldn't expect there to be much else we'll give them a couple leafy falls maybe a twin trunk and uh some bushies you know gotta make sure that there's a little bit of fire hazard near the fire station so i think we're good there uh so that's that's kind of where we're at there now i i'm in a spot where i want to look at the rci meter and solve some of the issues that we're seeing and what i see is that we need residential significant residential development so we know that we're going to want to expand this farm so i'm going to try to to have a residential development occur within the existing area so there's a lot that i want to do at this park i can't do everything i want to do yet because our population is not large enough so this actually kind of works out in our favor so i look at the two residential development areas as right here along the coast and right here this is more rural development kind of going back i would think more farm this could be an extension of a shopping center or some other types of uses that are you know high visibility but not necessarily have having high access needs so um think of things that would certainly want to be seen but if it was a little more circuitous to get to it it's okay a car dealership might be that kind of thing they want you to see that they're there but they don't necessarily want or they don't need you to be able to drive in so all right let's think about our residential development the first thing we're going to do is upgrade some of these roads that we have over here so i've learned a couple of things with the help of the discord server first of all toggle road collision if you had that unchecked nothing gets demolished so i'll go around here space already occupied that's okay we'll upgrade anyway put anarchy on and we can upgrade whatever we want make it easier for the fire department to get there by having some reasonable urban roads unfortunately because we have anarchy and we're going to upgrade trees right back into these roads so we have to be really careful with that it's still happening so i think i'm just going to go through here and clear all the trees afterwards so one of the main reasons i got rid of the road color changers it gives us the ability to plan out some of these roads and i'm really excited about that opportunity so one of the things i'm going to do is i want to reserve a significant area for a grocery store so let's go ahead we'll make a planning road here i want to turn off the slope and look at that that's so cool that i can have planning roads now this again if we take a look at tmpe five mile per hour speed limit so not not a super desirable path people could still go down it but they probably won't and it gives us the ability to upgrade that later on down the line so i really think that this is a a neat feature so i'm looking at this area and thinking this is a brand new plat we're going to want to do some unique things here [Music] so i'm making those connections i am going to just go ahead and give up on my tree issue we'll just get rid of the trees in this area and add some in later on because we're going to continue to have this issue and i can't figure out for the life of me why because i think when i look at my prop anarchy it's not on that's not on when i go into here which is the third anarchy it is also off so i am doing something wrong and i can't the life me figure out what it is anyway so this new developer is going to come in with some other ideas about connectivity the connectivity is going to still be a thing we're going to still have a connected roadway network but it's going to be a little bit more circuitous truthfully i see this big block here and it's you know i'm gonna just make some larger lots i think [Music] and connect right up it's an ugly intersection it's very ugly so in this area just having the larger lots i think is going to make a big difference for the feel of the neighborhood so we'll add that extra space in there not really a plan for that extra space but we'll have it [Music] and this is similar to some of the patterns that you'd start seeing after world war ii where some of the development patterns were still fairly connected but at the same time started to deviate a little bit more from the grid still highly connected though just has some curves and visual interest i suppose in the lots so i'm setting up these planning roads very specifically i could change this now if i wanted to you know let's just assume i hadn't had these upgraded you kind of see what you're what you're working with and now the other thing that i can do is go ahead and set up some districts because right now we don't really have any we have ashland estates and then we have the walmart shopping center the rest of us just ashland which i think is pretty standard in smaller towns you don't have all that many named neighborhoods until you get to a certain size and i'm not sure what exactly that size would be maybe thirty thousand forty thousand um you might have different parts of town that people identify but that doesn't necessarily when you're in a transl town you identify it by landmarks so i'm i live by the high school or i live on you know lincoln street or something like that not necessarily i live in congress park or i live in west l.a you know that's that that's a that's a big city thing [Music] that said this developer has different ideas they want it to be lighthouse view we're going to enable theme management for this district we want to always keep our downtown brick on so that if we have any commercial in this area it can still develop but one of the things that i want to do is take a look at some of our dk post-war developments and see how this neighborhood develops with that theme on so we've got that set up i do want to take a look at the neighborhood needs and services we do have plenty of high school and elementary capacity we don't have a public library yet and that might be the kind of concession that you would expect to see from a developer at this point in time along with maybe some institutional space so i think we're going to dedicate some of those things at this point in time and this is neat it's a small public library branch i think this is what we're going to take a look at it's a very modern looking building which might not fit in unless you think of it kind of like a postmodern building so maybe it will be okay it's very modern looking no road access interesting so it's looking at my road saying oh no it was at yeah it's looking at this road and saying that's not a road you add that it's happy fascinating fascinating fascinating fascinating so we're gonna have that there and we're also gonna have a park within this neighborhood that's funny you look at this and we have all of these different assets that aren't actually parks so parking stalls so i think a large playground would probably make the most sense in a neighborhood like this interesting i can't place it because it needs to be on a road again so we are going to have to upgrade roads in a targeted way but that's okay because it forces us to think a little bit so this is the center of the neighborhood so i think having this in the center would make the most sense to make it easily accessible for everyone in the neighborhood that's a nice location and if you were one of the lots back here how lucky would you be had that right in your backyard or unlucky depending on your view of it some people like the privacy more than than they like the access to the amenity you want to just clean up some zoning over here i'm noticing some oddities and i'm sure that we're going to see more of those in the future and there isn't really all that much more that i want to add in this area what i think we probably want to think about now is zoning and probably cleaning up some of the zoning on these roads so you can see that it's broken up in a number of places so i'm gonna go through and just upgrade these roads okay so we have real roads now so i want to take a look at the zoning so i'm going to use my zoning toggler because you see that some of these are broken up kind of weird that's not going to work so it does clean it up here but it breaks it over here the only way to fix that would be to add an alley do it on both sides and have bigger lots there and that's not not necessarily the aesthetic that i'm looking for so i'm just going to kind of monozone this the other thing i'm thinking about is police coverage we do not have very good police coverage over here we don't really have any criminals we do have kind of a high crime rate though so i do think giving some some space to public services might be beneficial right here this road has been acting as kind of our main drag and i have the road names off okay so this is lighthouse way so lighthouse way is kind of acting as our main drag here so why don't we add our police and fire coverage right here in this small block okay so i'm adding this again this two uh this two engine firehouse knowing that we're gonna have commercial development up and up and down this core i think it'll fit in really well and we're not going to zone in here because this will be our grocery store and inside of here i think we're just going to have some residential development it would be nice to have some pads through here though you have this big block here and that's a long length for anyone wanting to cut through the neighborhood so we are going to add a cut through path [Music] and we'll get that built right away because if there's anything i've learned in my career it's that if you don't get these pads built right away they never get built and people will start to build within the easement for the path they'll start to believe it's their land so they'll plant a garden and uh you know put a fence over it and all of the sudden you're in a position where you are battling people for land that they believe that you are stealing from them as the planner that uh you know reasonably are you gonna tear down a fence to put in a path no you're gonna lose that battle uh ten times out of ten so just accept your lot in that in that argument and uh either do it right up front or don't do it at all so we're gonna do it right up front so right here is another spot where it'd be really nice to have that connection through here i just wanted to add a crossing in there i had to remember how to do that so that's node controller renewal so if you go into here click on this you can add a path wherever you like uh just you know left click to add it i don't know how to remove it though if i wanted to so i better be very careful i guess go into here click delete yeah that is very easy so yeah go into here click on this add it oh cross it there we go so now that we have that node there it is a thing so we probably want to add one here as well because that will be a very long stretch to get across otherwise very good so this dk post war you can see that the homes are a bit smaller and they the theme is just a little bit different i like it because you have all these big historic homes and now you get these smaller ones and these would ultimately be more affordable it's interesting these are so small that they almost look like trailers but i think a lot of these homes when they were built they were built with the ability to expand later on down the line so you start out with a small home and then you can add another room add another room add another room and all of a sudden you have a 2000 square foot house and you've built it yourself so kind of a way to increase the affordability of homes without doing a whole bunch of you know building up front it was kind of an old-school way of looking at it that you know maybe we should be looking at a little bit more now so one of the things i'm noticing besides that this pop-up is here it's that on lighthouse way we have this road going up to the lighthouse there's no way to actually walk there i kind of want to change that so let's eliminate that road and think about a pedestrian connection there okay so i added that pedestrian connection and you can't see it because there are all these rocks in the way which is completely beautiful but we're gonna fix this and finagle it a bit to make this work for our purposes okay so we've got that nice and level there now i want to get these rocks back in hiding some of the weirdness of this particular asset we'll just rotate these around look at that that is pretty darn good i think that there's obviously there's always room for improvement we could try to cover up a little bit of this jaggedness over here but i'm pretty pleased with how it turned out let's kind of rotate around there's yeah just a little things around the edge that i think we could do to improve things but in general i'm pretty happy the last thing we need to do to really make this shine would be a bit of grading and now you could walk right up this rock to get there so this was a fine example of perfect being the enemy of good it was good before i wanted it to be perfect and i think i might have made it worse which is kind of how that normally goes [Laughter] you know there's some weird rock things going on and yeah it'll it'll be fine i think i'm just gonna step away from the lighthouse you're not making it better anymore phil you're just doing stuff but either way now you can walk up to it even if you don't actually walk up to it we never see another or a single sim walk up we're good what is this the baseball stadium i didn't really change anything but now it's happy okay so we're in a good spot here what i wanted to do is also add in a grocery store i think this is a really important part of any uh community is to have a grocery store so we're gonna add one right now we have a kroger asset that we picked up and the first thing we're going to do is start by building a parking lot so i want to look for this because i'm not 100 sure [Music] the size and i want to be able to get circulation behind it because we are going to be using our building spawn points on this and walmart so i want to make sure that i get it right so we we're going to want to get that drive aisle behind here so i think we're good and here i think we're going to want to try to get as close to a 90 as we can make it easy for the trucks so we're good there and truthfully we could probably add our roadway in right here and that'll work just as good as what we were trying to do before interesting it really doesn't want to add a connection there not 100 sure why it's fine here huh well this i think would be the preferred connection point and i'm wondering if my node changes with a reason for the issue so why don't we try to delete that node nope still hates it it must just be that connection with lake street so the other thing we could do is have it dump out over here though it would really be nice to not have that so close to the intersection that would be a bit of a safety concern this would be the best location this stinks it's gonna offset this a little bit i guess and and call it good enough okay you see that we need to move this over because it's we want to keep this one perfect segment in between for our parking stalls if at all possible it'll help us a lot [Music] so that's how we're going to accommodate that is have this little turn over or curve sort of thing over here so the one thing i that bugs me about these parking lots is that you know you you have all of these names i wonder can i just couple spaces nope must have a name [Music] well i'm just gonna give it numbers because at least it feels a little bit more reasonable to me i don't know that it actually is but it it feels better all right so we're gonna have our accessible stalls again right up front oh and that is way too close so you got to be careful with these parking stalls if you you can if you put them in the wrong spot they end up right in front of the building for some reason it's just not snapping to the right spot for me and i'm having all sorts of issues and i ha i have a sneaking suspicion that i know why so i think that it is my zoning so i turned off zoning and you can see this bam bam bam nice and easy which is what i was looking for we've got a couple of weird spots in here there's like a dip in between these and i'm not sure why that's there the what we're going to do we'll try i wonder for well we have our clipping remover that we know we need to use right here let's give it a shot right here doesn't do anything so my suspicion is that there is some sort of seam that maybe we could fix if we slide all of this over just a bit actually the one thing i don't want to slide over is those parking spots [Music] still kind of funky it's still a little funky let me see there it is that got rid of the seam perfect so we're good there what i think i want to do though is get tricky and we are going to we've already done good work over here no reason to reinvent the wheel we'll turn off our roads and we will just copy this save a little bit of time [Music] and let's double check this at night and see how it looks big holes in our lighting again that is a problem that we can fix the nice thing about having these numbers is actually it kind of shows us where the center is i have a brush size on so that's one of the reasons that i'm struggling with this a little bit right now i think this right here where the numbers are is the center huh some oddness right here well perfect spot for this no worries about that so that is good we do need some landscaping around here i do want to plan the zoning out around here as well and then we're going to work on spawn points for a couple of these buildings so we have zoning along the parking lot we clearly don't want to do that so let's turn that off i also don't want zoning here and truthfully i don't want any zoning here either so i think what we're gonna do to start out is to actually have a fence back behind here to separate these uses i think that that would be something that a developer would absolutely want would be some sort of privacy fence between a grocery store with all of those lights and a residential neighborhood [Music] not that big of a concern over here but we've got it at least connected up to our building we have some privacy and we've left enough space for some landscaping because the city is not going to be okay with the back of a fence lining this so we are going to add some landscaping and our leafy full is not going to work so we might just have some junipers or something like that that's thinner arborvitae would work well too [Music] there's some added visual interest there and then i think along here we would want to see a couple of trees maybe not a ton of them and obviously we want to back these up off from the corner so we don't have sight issues [Music] we could be fine with that i think that that at least looks nice maybe one more of these little bushes back here there we go a nicely landscaped kroger site so one of the things i want to do is paint a little bit of surface back here to make sure that we oh that looks bad so we got to be very gentle with this to make sure that we don't overdo it and inadvertently do what i just did here we go oh and again i'm good for it there we go that's that's nice a little bit of wonkiness over here but that's that's to be expected you can't you can't be perfect in that way so now we at least have the ability to set up our roadway network through here we want to give those properties some space if we can to get away from that that fence that said maybe it's not that big of a deal this is going to maximize our developable lots and that's also a good thing so i think that that's the route that we're going to go and we will go ahead and get this zoned again we do have a couple of lots that are facing lighthouse waste so those are commercial lots and then all these other ones are non-commercial we're gonna also need some sort of buffer here so i'm gonna back this out because you'd figure there'd be headlights coming around here shining into these backyards and potentially into bedroom windows so i think that we're going to require a significant amount of screening in this particular location so the kinds of things that we would be looking for would be a fence first of all a six foot fence and then also some amount of landscaping i think that we're gonna just mirror what we've done already [Music] okay so that is very good i do want to look and see yeah our it looks like our neighborhood ends i don't want this little weird outcropping of of strange little lots there and truthfully i think that we could probably say the same thing about this but this does kind of represent a transition zone so maybe we'll leave that as it is and call it there and not enough workers because we have not enough workers so that's kind of a problem all over the place you see all these buildings being abandoned and that's part of the reason is we just don't have enough workers so that's completely fine and reasonable though we've got water here we should be good there all right i am happy with where that ended let's kind of tour the city a bit because right now what i want to do is build some more farms uh so i think that where we're going to build farms is gonna be towards the highway this would be another logical location but i wanna this feels like where the next expansion of our farm area would logically be it has the most integration into the community historical integration so to me that makes some sense so i am clearing these trees again oh and i'm breaking stuff okay now we're good so i do want to go ahead and add a dirt road we're going to extend this road out here that seems like a logical termination to kind of mirror what's happening over here and i think we're gonna have a different pattern with our farms over here which will be completely fine that said we do have the ability to get these lots built so i think right away we're going to zone these seem to be fairly reasonable in my mind it's something that the city would be looking to do that's getting getting properties on the tax roll and speaking of that i missed a bunch of zoning so we're gonna do that now we are having water issues sewage treatment issues and it's power issues not enough electricity issues oh i think i just did this that was an accident glad i was able to see that because this could have been real bad and truthfully i'm going to be building stuff over here so this will be bad so i'm going to do is just build a power line over here knowing that i'm going to break this one i'm noticing that there's a couple of trees that popped up inside of this field but that reminds me one of the one of the comments i really loved that i saw from the last video is that there should be some sort of shade for these farm animals i completely agree that's what it is i have the control p anarchy on so just kind of trying to figure out what's going on so hopefully now that i have prop anarchy off for real we won't have any more of those popping issues so i'm going to almost exclusively use large and medium-sized fields over here so we're going to go through and search those out and so yeah these these so some of these that look larger aren't so it's actually the xxl and xxl fields i want to use unfortunately i think that my options are limited if i use those particular fields but that's okay because you have a lot of wheat out in the world so we're totally fine with that you see there's a big oil industry i'm just not super interested in that right now this will be interesting because there will be some unproductive farmland then and we'll just see what happens there that could be what ends up being developed first so we're going to start down here [Music] and i think this is what the overlap is for because you see that this wouldn't normally fit oh yeah i would never mind i need to stop talking [Laughter] it's just fine and i'm actually thinking it might deviate a bit right here for a very specific reason and that is we need some barns and i want them centrally located i wish i could get this overlay to go away i can shrink this which will help so i want here's where i'm gonna have that a little bit of overlap [Music] okay and you start to see that boy this is boring [Laughter] we can liven it up we will change these we've only got four options so we're gonna have to be aware of that and when we have overlap we can't really get too wild with it oh we have a road through there whoops so that road's not going to work which is fine [Laughter] [Music] so it's a little bit boring you see this same repetitive pattern but that's okay we're going to do something different in the center and one of the things that we're going to do is have a farm residence or two we're going to d-zone here actually there's no reason for that never mind so let's go back to our farm explorer basically and take a look at what we have here i think i want to do some other things we're going to try to stick with all large fields if at all possible [Music] so i'm struggling to fit these in here because there's an extra road so we might actually just eliminate the road to this so we can slide some of this stuff over which will help out quite a bit now i don't love the idea of a dead-end road through here but there would be farm roads and i need to get out of my own head so okay so now what i've done is i've provided enough space to have a cut like one looping road through here for the farm residences and the barn so we're gonna have barns right here a couple of farm residents right here we're gonna turn off zoning on this road so that the farms are are facing this private road back here give them the privacy that they need and then we have our barns on spring road we actually have the ability to build some larger barns at this point at least i thought we did yeah i was wrong so i think what we're going to do is add a couple of barns and then some silos and then i think we're in a spot where we can start getting water here i guess we've been in that spot where we could get water here if that is what we wanted to do [Music] now i'm very curious as to how this is gonna work because i couldn't have ignored rci any any worse this is not not not me uh listening to the game this is me doing what i want see if they if they respond well to that the game responds well to that just creating a little bit of separation for these residents here it's nice this would be a very pleasant place to to have a farm so one of the things i want to do here so we have potatoes interesting so i was just kind of taking a look one thing i don't love about the potatoes is that they have a barn there i'm kind of thinking i might have one greenhouse and then have another vegetable medium again the problem is the orientation so i never love that so maybe we'll just have a corn over here it'll be fine yeah it'll be fine i need to get out of my own head now what will not be fine is that we have all of these roads that need to have gravel on the side and i haven't done it yet so i'm gonna go through and get that fixed right now that's that that's that's clean that that is that is no it's not it was clean from from far and you get close to it and it looks got it's got some character we've also got power lines going through these fields which i guess could be okay but i don't love it so i also don't love these trees and that are popping up in the middle of fields and the roads i thought we had this done and resolved but you know there are probably gonna be a couple of old uh carryovers that i'm dealing with for a little while so here again i think that we're going to have some residential land uses we've already got city services here so we might as well get them in here and we could have a couple of trees in here just to i mean there's not really i wouldn't think that you're protecting anyone from anything out in the field i guess except for those a couple of times a year when they're spreading but besides that i think it'd be a good view to have but different strokes for different folks so we will do something add a couple trees in the backyard to liven it up a bit we'll make them irregular to uh to add a little bit of zest we're good so our landfill usage i wonder is this empty over here it's still running no empty we want this gone we do not want this landfill here and wow you can see that our industrial base is just up and left the city and like i said in the last episode as buildings leave or as businesses leave we will demolish the structures and that leaves us with one industrial building down here what is this ready to wear ltd congratulations on being the very la plasty mold yeah i wish she would go away from this area we uh well you know they're the only industrial building in the city i guess they're going to do okay we're going gonna use eminent domain the city will purchase that last holdout and uh we will lean on our agricultural industry and our thriving or dying uh retail industry let's see what we have over here so now it's an arby's and an einstein bagels and they're doing okay better than mickey d's [Music] with their random sign over there so we're good so i think the last thing i want to do is i really wanted to get a farm implement store somewhere near this egg industry we've got this interesting little triangular parcel over here if this power stuff weren't here that's well you know what i still might put it over here so to me this would seem to be a a good location for this kind of a building it's close to the agricultural land it's by some industrial it's got good visibility from the highway so and it's outside of the city limits so they could get away with maybe a little bit less in terms of design standards which i think that they would absolutely be looking to do for this kind of facility that's not to say that it's a low quality facility by any means it's just that maybe this sort of design standards you know parking lot islands and and the like don't matter as much to a farming implements company okay so this is what we're going to be working with and apparently we're still working with being able to plop trees all over the place so we'll clear our pad because i am just terrible with that stuff so what we're gonna do i picked up an asset and i want to actually go and modify it so the asset is a residential is that commercial building and it's the farm equipment dealer torkelson i believe it's called so what i've done is i've well so i've gone through here in the settings and i've actually modified this building to and make it a rico building which will allow me to place it wherever i want so i'm going to place this building quickly so i can get a feel for where the front is and you can see that the front of the building or at least the side that they'd want to showcase is right here so i'm going to need a road here a drive to relocate this building to okay so now you get to view their signage except for this oh bummer so ideally i think this would be parallel with the highway that's not what they're getting so they'll have to uh accept that we will give them the neat commerce street name going right up to the front of their facility and here we're going to cheat and align to object height bring things down a bit there we go and we will get our parking lot stalls placed in there there we go and the other thing i want to do with this so maybe we'll move this over well didn't want to move everything over just this move this over to square it up nicely and i thought it might be neat for them to have some sort of showcase area for their equipment so what we're going to do is surface paint some some gravel over here so this wouldn't be allowed within the city but they can get away with it out in the country maybe not even the country the the unincorporated part of the city so we have all of these whoa whoa whoa where were we oh we're inside the power plant not ideal so they can showcase some of their equipment here we'll orient this actually you know what we need to do better so what we're gonna do we'll actually loop this around and their area for showing will be right here which i think will work a lot better for the business and again that's part of why i think they would locate out here is the flexibility to do what they want with a few less restrictions and having implements of husbandry it obviously there'd be a lot of wear and tear i think that the city would be fairly reluctant to fully embrace this kind of use being developed within the city trying to think of the best way to approach this and i do think it might just be we'll have a gravel patch out here and it can be messy gravel is messy that's actually one of the reasons why it's generally at least in the cities that i've worked in not in appropriate ground covering anymore which is kind of unfortunate because if you think about it it's permeable and we're saying this permeable surface covers no good so show off that equipment show them what you got and then we'll get a nice sign up here too and we are going to do very little in terms of landscaping maybe a tree in the corner here and a couple of small ones but this is one of the things i think they would be looking to get out here is away from some of those city standards so you get a couple of things but not a lot and then in terms of water we're already covered we're perfect so we're good here so i have an ace hardware i think i'm going to hold off on placing that for now i think that uh so i have ace hardware dollar general and a motel that i really would like to get in the city but at this point i'm kind of happy with where where we're at for today um you know initially i was really starting to think i want to get to the next town fairly quickly but i really want to put a lot of detail into these communities i think that they are all unique and special and have trees in the roads so we want to make sure that we get all of those trees where they need to be and make sure that these areas have character and i still haven't been able to name all the roads i want to have a modular cemetery over here there's a lot of small things that i want to do this little plaza area right here so and even at this even with the the growth that we've had today we've only added about 700 people to the community so uh and when there's a number of fires so i think we're gonna continue to slowly grow here until this city is built out uh and then we're gonna move on to our next city but that's we're in a good spot today let's review i want to look back over here and see if there's anything i can add i didn't zone this i still didn't zone this okay so that is clearly one thing i would have regretted then i want to go through here and add some landscaping and also make sure that i'm not inadvertently zoning our trails so mulligan on those and i'm sorry we're using eminent domain for a path as i talk about how difficult it would be to build this path after the fact i'm using eminent domain to take down a house to build the path the height of realism all right so we are going to look at our budget just kidding i want to look at our trees and get a couple of medium leafies in here generic full large get that in there as well so i wish there was a way to see my zoning squares at the same time that i'm placing landscaping if anyone knows of a mod that oh wait [Music] nope i i thought maybe this could help me with that but it can't that said these are building out so quickly because the demand is so high that it probably doesn't matter all that much so this is interesting you see this depression here and in reality if we were looking at this we would probably assume that this is a wet pond because of the dip there that would fill up with water or or a detention basin so i think let's just let's walk it back do the same thing over here these are going to be places where if you were to build a basement it's filled with water if it if there's even a slight rain so it'd be a great place to have a rain garden or something along those lines so that's some high vegetation there to kind of show that that is a wet area so the other maybe the very very last thing i want to do i know that there was some apprehension to all that i did with privatizing the coasts we're gonna do just a little bit more and what we're gonna do no we're not i can't do it i can't do it we could do some right here um there's a nice view you could have little pocket parks in this area because the views imagine being this person and you know you can't afford a big house you got a million dollar view that's awesome all right the last thing i want to do in the city is take a look at our spawn points so this is an exciting mod you come over here you can either control p and and bring up your spawn points or clicking that little icon here so what you notice is that we have everything that would go to this building spawning right here and for most things that's fine please taxi ambulance fire truck garbage and cargo are probably the two that are different so let's add a location for a cargo truck and what you can do is just go through here you see that it starts in the center of the building and you can hold your mouse over x z and a and move it back now one of the things that i think i'm going to struggle with is that i can't oh no i can't i was i wasn't able to move for a second there so i've moved this to the back of the building i'm gonna move it over to one of the bays so now the cargo trucks will come to the back so we're gonna do the exact same thing with the garbage truck we want that to come back here that's a fine location perfect so that's what you're gonna see now is those trucks coming around the back which is exactly what we want to see look at this little neighborhood here this is totally fine beautiful and even though they're backing up to the grocery store they get some screening i'm wondering at night how bad this is it's pretty bad [Laughter] that's really why you want the the screening is that that night she didn't really care during the day but they're going to keep their lights on all night and in your bedroom right here right here you're looking out and look what you see bright lights the this is a very safe parking lot unfortunately you also have the bright kroger lights so the value of this property has just plummeted because of that and because landscaping isn't adequate so these people are going to end up planting a big tree right here taking up their whole yard trying to prevent themselves from seeing the madness over at kroger's they're gonna go they're gonna go through and they're gonna say you know what i'll plant one right here or i'll do one bow that's big you know what they're probably gonna do a medium leafy and encroach upon their own property in a really significant way and that's unfortunate but that's a land use thing it happens and if for instance the kroger were to go in after these homes there is a chance that kroger reaches out to these residents to ask them if there's anything that they could do to mitigate these issues and what the kroger might offer up right off the bat would be we will go on to your property and plant some trees if that will make this better you can see that helps some you do see it it's it's a little better okay so we have one uh building down with our spawn points right let's take a look at the high school so it's really our garbage truck here that we're worried about so we will add a point for a garbage truck truthfully there's not really a good spot so we're gonna say it's this door oh our farm has reached level three got some stuff medium fields milking parlor lemonade factory cool all right so we're good here i think that that will uh have to be good enough and then ooh got a fire over here but looks like everyone survived i think the big boy is this one over here so clearly same situation cargo garbage at a point we're going to move these back so we could put these ones in separate locations and i might do that we'll have this one be for garbage and we'll add another one so it's interesting i had to hit escape to be able to move the map it kind of just was hanging out there so we're going to move cargo back here i'm noticing that there's kind of a lumpy and it must be the topography is not right here so either way we've got uh this sorted out where the loading will take place we could oh that's ugly so we've got some pavement things happening here so we could go ahead here and do the exact same thing because it's a different place now what i could do is delete the garbage truck park maintenance interesting they look at this as a park i'm okay with it being in the front but i want to see the garbage so let's say garbage truck i'm curious we're gonna say that the employees walk this all the way down here which i don't think is at all unreasonable that's so neat so i was able to actually move the spawn point for the garbage from this facility all the way to the back here and i could probably do the exact same thing here if i wanted to there's a cargo truck and that's spawning at the wrong point so i could have this spawn at the store and you can change the angle same way but i'm okay with them coming right up here for everything yeah we'll keep that so you get really nitpicky with this i think we could go through every single building and and figure that out let's see einstein and wendy's arby's is gone now we got wendy's the never-ending turnover of the fast food in front of mcdonald's and i'm not sure why this is performing as badly as it is but it's clearly not doing well my guess is it's the worker problem that the city generally has we're gonna have to build our way out of that soon and really it's the farms that are causing a lot of those problems it's just uh very worker intensive and they are short on workers too and i say that i'm looking in there in an all right spot some of these not so good okay but ashland family farms of course they're going to take as many employees as they can one last zoning thing there we go we've got this area down here that i wanted to finish up this is the end of the downtown in fact maybe we'll end it a little no we're gonna leave it it's a need so we have the downtown kind of done here and lots of fires we're uh we're trying to verde beach it up in here so i am digging it i'm digging
