comedians in the game I just read that you sold out Hawaii blasdell around like 20,000 seats 11 nights in a row it's crazy I really don't like the tickets weren't even on sale yet it was like presale and they just that's I think that's everyone in the island that's a whole Island that's Maui to Maui yeah swimming over to see their spam shortage Hawaii so are you living your wildest dream right now yes this is the biggest you dreamed it would be this is the dream right here man honestly like hands down I was supposed to be a nurse in my mom's eyes my mom's eyes I was supposed to be a nurse so I think every Filipino child is supposed to be a nurse and when I said comedian my mom was like no that's the worst decision you could I wish there's anything for a joke that's like she really like did not want me to become a comedian at all and then and then when I like cuz how bad it was let me just show you how bad it was like when you're pursuing your dream like you have a part-time job my mom would tell everyone my part-time job instead of what I was trying to yeah like she would go oh this is Joseph he really knows a lot about tennis shoes [Laughter] don't tell them about that but never but then when you know Chelsea starting and my specials then she was like oh I know he was going to be like you're gonna be a comedian were you funny as a kid giggling I was hysterical seriously she had no clue watching you you know she knew always funny but she knew like like that's only good till you're like 18 and then after that that's like get a real job come on you can't pay the bills week jokes and then and now you do now I do you do yeah tell us about your first uh going to post comedy your first comedy show first spot I went my sister was in a talent show in Vegas she's a singer and then uh and then I signed up for it didn't tell anybody that I was in the same competition that my sister was in and I and I had to be at this local bar he had to be 21 to join the competition so I grew a mustache out I colored it in and they let me onstage I bomb so bad man oh no it's on the corner of Tropicana in Eastern I don't know the name of the bar but it's still there so that's that's where I first went up bomb so bad I was 18 and I remember just coming right home and going to sleep and like maybe my mom was right right maybe I should be his nurse what was the worst joke you've ever told you said you bombed on that all of those that day is so funny cuz I was working that was that working at blogger I had a list I had a bunch of notes like this of all my jokes and I was like well that's too many and I put the rest away oh no and I go this will be enough right oh man I didn't I I bombed the first the first thing that came out of my mouth it was complete silence and that was nothing there's just complete turmoil I just pulled it and then what was the show that turned it around when you're like oh I got one laughs I was at this place called Buzzy's cafe and uh and I got one lap in the back and I had a camera set up in the back like that and I remember I got one guy Wyatt Toomy on stage I heard a bunch of people clap it oh that's it applause break and then when I went home and I - it was just one guy like I'm killing killing I kept watching that I was like make him clap then I can make a bunch of people class so that's when I knew I had it a lot of your comedy is family based yes how your your son or your mom ever get tired of being the butt of the joke no my mom loves all of this sound like now all right oh she loves it like she can't get out like I just I flew off for this convention because everyone wanted me but they're like but we'll take your mom if you want to send that I sent my mom and and then uh like she'll come to my shows and at the end of the show she goes you could have done a couple more stories about me oh I swear to God so get so many you did so much you know just Maura you remember when you were stealing oh she's gotta give you the job she'll give me jugs right um I'm post-its oh wow Wow mom is in the business and your son my son is not like because the special net when the Netflix came out like all his friends saw it uh-huh so now he's just like he's king at his yeah but but some of the jokes are pretty harsh for him but he's taking it like a champ and I'm just like a bro you like those shoes you like college stupid what about Gus how does Gus take that's okay I love the gun Gus is a great story it goes good with your son that's why I do that on The Today Show I didn't know my special I saw it somewhere oh no I came to see what nears all what I talked about gosh yeah so my son's schools were like their dads are like celebs I guess right like he's got his friend Marquis cool right yeah anyways Gus Gus's dad is uh the guy from Prison Break what what's the other guy's name was he one of the brothers yeah the brother so not Wentworth Miller the other one but the other one Lincoln whoever Lincoln I don't know his real name but yeah Purcell Dominic Purcell yes ja that's so anyways like that's his boy right like it was all about godson like you know a Dominic Purcell and he always talks about herself ever do you like your dad's cool too man but then but then when Netflix cos I was before that place and then when Netflix came out that everyone was like all right your dad's cool so how how does that first I was just some comic right yeah he's like all the other friends like this kid like yeah marks Mike my uh Mike's dad is Mark Anthony and Dominic Purcell and so I said well I should have pulled out I should you be kind of cut it mark it mark that whatever time were in but I just wanna be honest with you I'm just saying or they hit like 14 yo they think they're cooler than you oh my god I can't with you this guy's so hilarious has Gus ever said anything about his section of their you know being the jealous your son wants to have with him and not hang out with you so funny cuz Gus loves me that's the cream it's like it's like dad swap it's like they you know me Gus is so cool I love him man so if they're all goodbye I swear to god they'll go out and they've come back home and like my son just go to his room and not want to talk about it like he'll just go to throw light like goodnight movie was cool good night I like follow him to his room like a jealous girlfriend like you got mean you wanna spend time with you boy it's healthy I think I'm not sure I'm not a father so I don't know any of this stuff Charlie Brown character right now what's the hardest audience you've had to play to you find like black audiences wide audiences was all black all black I did the black comedy college tour I was this guy Brian was the Booker for this college and a college tour so it was the black comedy college tour and they had like that's how I met JB smooth and and like Ian Edwards and and all these cats you know I mean like and and uh because I used to open for him some more oh yeah yeah yeah I used to open for when I was like 21:22 and it was called the black comedy college tour and when you go to these colleges they had to uh you can't just have an all-black show you had to have diversity right you know what I'm saying so it had to be like a black headliner and then it had to be another yeah jo koy you have an Asian yup jo koy black audiences to be rub you but it eager come on are you kidding me I won the apollo man you that's a sign of stamp of approval yeah i'm comedy on the apollo no one survives comedy oh it's just like this is like oh this is apollo apollo like that the glitzy apollo this is the one where it was the red curtain behind Rudy rush was the house oh wow to rub the hole you had to rub the style yeah I did Apollo I did the desert yeah you would die yeah and I remember they stood me right behind this stump like are you ready and I go no it's terrifying because if they don't unders you remember where the dressy dress you would if you ever watch the Apollo dress underneath is it underneath there's hinge so you actually hear it it's like a gladiator you know to me where they going and fight and then and then the water comes back all with an arm visit yeah like that's how the Apollo was like like you're underneath the stage and hugging each other like good luck and they're like god I can't wait and then they come back like boy they do that Apollo is brutal anyone ever watch no time at the Apollo or their regular TV show Apollo as soon as they say our next act is a comedian even step out on this day and it is that bad yeah I'm assuming no fights from the comedy or anything like that and you ever get on anybody's nerves or say anything about somebody that later on wanted to fight you yeah yeah yeah have you been in fights yeah I've never been in fights look at me look at the camera people can do that for you huh bring it up oh that is him oh right right right right right right right all right I got tape I've had some pet sentence yes yeah yeah Wow my head Wow I heard a rumor that's never the good start yeah yeah because there cuz this sounds disgusting okay I heard a rumor that you like to use your spouse's toothbrush disgusting does anybody use their spouses toothbrush out here clap that's my dude clapping music okra way to go there's nobody clapping Joan OH grab that oh those were pity claps make out with your girlfriend after she ate something gross right after she ate and you get a gross you're gross that I use a toothbrush what why don't you have a TV show with all your comedy I feel like everything you talk about your family and all that it's in life or a hit TV show man let's make this happen Joe I've had I've had several deals man I had several well one of the one of the best moments in my career is when Tom Werner gave me a deal and Werner Carson Warner's you know Cosby rose and all that and he came to my show and gave me a deal right off right when I got off stage and and we came up with the pilot and he said the same thing that means I know all these stories are for TV it's just it's a different time though man so I was just happy that I got the deal yeah and that's just how it is now it's like if you're not you know naked in the woods for $100,000 you know I mean that's all they're giving out right now it's either it's either a game show or a reality show so it's all good it's coming Joe stand-up is real it's coming man it's coming I love you I love you back mahalik Otto whatever he texted me something else you said something to me on a text yeah I said my house kita yeah
