now the coolest thing about the fighter for me is the fact that you could just wade into the middle of everything and just destroy it without really needing to stress too much about positioning or anything else because you got all the hit points you get all the strength and your brain plate mail and you probably got magic plate mail and so knowing all of that I get a lot of questions recently during a lot of my videos because I'm doing a lot of the Newbie guides like The Beginner's guides and so there's way more people out there than I thought who have never played Dungeons and Dragons before um and who have never played a game like this before so get people asking you know what's the easiest class for new players to jump into and I always just tell them the fighter the fighter is the easiest thing you can possibly play because you don't have to worry about anything other than just waiting into the middle of a combat scenario and just laying the smack down you don't need to worry about the rules too much you don't need to know any of the meta it'll all be explained to you as you level up and progress your character it's very easy to play now I know other people will say yeah but this class does this this this that's great if you've played Dungeons and Dragons before but again remember I'm coming at this from the angle of complete new player who has never played Dungeons and Dragons never played a Baldur's Gate game doesn't care about the meta doesn't want to get confused by The Meta just wants to jump in and play this amazing Story game that they've seen all over YouTube and making all these you know steam records and everything some people out there just want to play the game and get into the story so that's what this is for so you can get in jump in enjoy the story and then on your second and third and fourth playthroughs like I used to do way back in the day when Baldur's Gate the first game was fresh for me first time I played it I had no clue what I was doing but the second time oh now I'm rolling you know a wizard and then I'm rolling a rogue for my next playthrough and then I'm going well now I want to try you know a paladin like that's the beauty of these games is be able to jump in and do things lots of different ways but anyway I'm gonna go into character creation with you all here in my beginner's guide to what you should play if you're a brand new player which is the fighter we're gonna walk through it I'm gonna explain things like the subclass choices and also we'll get into some of the specializations you can do early on we'll talk proficiencies as well so let's get into it from here if you haven't already done so make sure to like subscribe and hit the Bell icon so you never miss an update ah the good old fighter says here Fighters have mastered the art of combat wielding weapons with unmatched skill and wearing armor like a second skin and they get an action right out of the gate called Second Wind which allows them to do a little bit of healing as a bonus action which is really really cool and you can use that in the middle of fights to sort of patch you up if your clerics or healers are running low on spells or you don't have any potions it's just a great little extra oof ability to have as a fighter now when you went to uh choose your class one of the things you're going to notice is that below class um it's going to have this thing where it says fighting style so if you click on that this is where things get really fun because there are a variety of ways that you can play your fighter you can either go for the archery route you can go the defense route you can go dueling you can go great weapon fighting protection or two weapon fighting and if you want to know more about those you just hover over each one archery you get a plus two bonus to range defense you get a plus one to AC while wearing armor dueling says when you're not wielding a melee weapon that is not two-handed or versatile in one hand and no weapon in the other you deal an additional two with that weapon pretty interesting great weapon fighting is anything that's two-handed protection is sword and board or Mason Shield whatever I like sword and board but anytime you have a shield you impose disadvantage on attacks against your allies when they are within 1.5 meters you must be able to see the attacker this is really useful if you have a melee heavy party and you're gonna have at least one other person up there in The Fray with you if you have two it's even better but basically anytime someone triggers an attack against your allies and they happen to be within 1.5 meters of you you're going to immediately impose disadvantage on their attack or in this case it's a reaction which is really cool the way reactions work in game because you can toggle them to be manual or you can have them be automatic and I like to use manual because it just feels more like Dungeons and Dragons um so you can get a pop-up that literally says this mob just rolled this against your ally do you want to use protection or not it's really cool and then two weapon fighting is uh dual wielding and using two different weapons all of these are a lot of fun I have played both sword and board two-handed and two weapon dividing in previous installments of the franchise as well as a lot of other crpgs I've never worried about dueling or defense and the one reason I say I don't I've never used archery with the fighters because if I want to go archery I typically will go like with a Wood Elf Ranger but the ranger has a lot of nuances to it so if you just want to be a really cool you know Robin Hood Type character go for Archer like it's just it's really easy you get a plus two for your range weapon attacks and you're gonna need all the other bonus bonuses and benefits of being a fighter plus you'll get your Feats and everything else as you level up so it's super super simple and as far as backgrounds go again don't don't worry about anything else just click Soldier it's the easiest thing to do you get a bonus to Athletics and intimidation which means you'll be able to do some cool stuff in and around the area regularly to physical stunts also helps you shove things off cliffs and resist being shoved which can be great in combat and then intimidation which allows you to threaten it says induce fear but it's basically just threatened people sometimes you might be bluffing sometimes you might be not not be bluffing but it's a great way to if you don't have persuasion or um you know deception or something you can use intimidation to win conversations in your direction um now there's one more decision you're probably going to want to make and that's once you get to your fighter subclass what should you choose if you're a new player well here's the cool thing the subclass doesn't come until after you've been playing the game for a few hours depending on your pace you'll have had plenty of time to sink your teeth into whatever type of fighter you created and you'll know a little bit more if you feel comfortable with it and you want to continue or do you want to spice it up a little bit and try something different so when you get to the subclass um uh selection time you're going to be giving three options to go between Battle Master uh Eldritch Knight or Champion essentially Battle Master is just taking that fighter you know I'm gonna beat things up and just wait into the middle of combat and destroy everything it's gonna take that concept and just enhance it with superiority die and some really cool abilities these Maneuvers essentially that allow you to like knock things off of cliffs with your melee attacks and your ranged attacks so you get a knockback effect on them or you can cause them to be frightened which you know puts them I believe at a disadvantage remember correctly and then there's Eldritch Knight which is essentially adding a little bit of spell casting to your fighter and it's really cool um the way it works um you still get all the beefiness of being a tank but now you get to spice it up a little bit with a handful of spells it's not a lot of spells it's a handful of spells so it's kind of like um if you've never played the ranger it used to be the same way years and years and years ago they would start peppering in spells as you get up to you know three four five and so on and so forth and you can kind of do the same thing here now with the Eldritch Knight subclass with the fighter so if you start to feel like you want to spice it up a little bit you can or you can go Champion which is the crit Master essentially where you just that's you just load up on your crits and go from there all of those are great options for you know subclassing your fighter in the way that's going to fit you specifically what's up everybody quick commercial break here to give it a shout out to our Guild Champions who time keeps the cats fed keeps the homestead running anyway back to the video everybody as far as skills and proficiencies goes I would just leave them as they come as you create this character but you can um you do have some electives here so you can choose to put these somewhere else if you want um but I would just leave them as they come out of the box which gives you a plus five in athletics plus two in acrobatics plus do an investigation plus two in survival and you get your plus two in intimidation those are reasonably good bonuses out of the gate um again you're not meant to be the big talker you know what I mean this is more about being able to be in those combat scenarios and do that for your group um it you know you well if you were the face of your party you may miss out on some conversation choices because you don't have a really high Charisma and things like that but I would not let that deter you from doing this because I know people will say things like that you need to have a Charisma based character if you do want to do that route you can always use someone else in your party to be the face case of the party to have the conversations while you control the combat Fields or you could just say you know what it doesn't matter my character is not that pretty and I'm not gonna be able to persuade that many people and you can role play with it and then on your second playthrough hall now you make The Bard and you go through as a face character and you get a completely different play through plus you'll have learned more about the combat and you'll be better ready to take on the challenge of playing a Bard which is a lot more situational and it's more complex and it's a hell of a lot of fun anyway folks that's a quick and dirty guide on the fighter and why I think it's the best choice for any new player who's never played d d or Brawler's gate games before gets you right in let's have fun you can come back then and decide to try other things and don't forget you can always respect everybody I mean I think that's something that's really unique about Baldur's Gate 3 as well is you can get 20 hours into the game and decide you know what the fighter was fun but I really want to see what it's like as a warlock and you can go respect to a warlock and keep all of your story decisions and everything else up to that point there's a lot of flexibility in this game so if you enjoyed the guide don't forget to like subscribe and hit that Bell icon so you never miss an update we are live every day at 11AM Central don't forget the Discord links down below and I'll see everybody in the next video or live stream until then stay safe and happy gaming
