so I got asked what kind of bonus damage I would like to have on every attack and I kind of just said yes [Music] this is fun hello my fellow adventurers today I want to bring you something just a little bit different to put it in technical terms it's the highest and most consistent turn by turn AOE damage possible in the game but I don't think that really conveys fully just how ridiculously both powerful and entertaining this is you get to freely without using spell slots without doing any trickery or anything like that just repeatedly five times a turn blast massive groups of enemies for huge amounts of piercing damage acid damage poison damage fire damage psychic damage radiant damage until they all melt to this Unstoppable Onslaught numerically even with just four targets we're looking at a potential over 1 000 damage a turn I mean you're kind of just saw it in action there those poor poor flaming fists so what are we actually working with well we are playing a Ranger a little bit of a multi-class dip but we'll get to that primarily a Ranger and a hunter and Hunter I think gets a bad rep because it's kind of the vanillary straightforward not too exciting fighter Champion equivalent of the Rangers Gloom stalker does a lot of Nova Shenanigans and then Beastmaster has that Beast flavor not that I would recommend eating anything that's being described as having Beast flavor but what the ranger does get at level 11 is volley and I cannot express how much I adore volley it's so simple yet effective you just choose a circle and you blast everything in it for your weapon attack that's neat it's useful it's good a weep tribal doesn't use as a resource just every turn but notice obviously I said weapon attack volley counts as a weapon attack which means you can do it twice per attack action as it counts for extra attack so four times with haste and anything that modifies your weapon attack modifies volley so something simple like the hell does gauntlets adding a one D6 fire damage to every attack adds it to volley and now you kinda see where we go with this if we engineer it so that we have as many of the damage ramps possible that affect a ranged attack well we can do some rainbow nuking every single turn repeatedly coupled with a massively useful bag of tricks spells passives and gear we just turn into the ultimate Army clearing machine and it's not like bosses or big chunky enemies really get to escape because your volleys are still hitting for up to 60 damage and you can do five of them that's a lot of single Target damage too or if you just use your normal attacks to achieve something similar and then our little extra bit of multi-classing gives us access to a couple really important synergies that I'm very excited to get to but for now the levels starting as you might expect with Ranger we are going to grab a bounty hunter for our favorite enemy though truthfully choose whatever you like here and same with your Explorer though I will be giving us three damage resistances because it's just nice to have them over Urban and Beast your abilities should end up looking like this we want our 16 index because you know damage and everything then we want our 16 in wisdom because we will be going into a little teeny bit of cleric and it's the best choice for our second 16. follow with your 14 in con I like the strength just for jump distance and dump that int and Charisma then we're just in for a lot of power leveling Ranger grab spells that make sense to you I like to have in Sharing strike especially if I'm doing this from earlier in the game it's just a very useful little spell and then speaking to animals is just good for you know enjoying the story your fighting style should be archery for an extra plus two bonus this will come in very handy as you will see and then onwards I will point out if there's any spells that are required but at all times otherwise just again take what you kind of like using or thinks effective and here I will get milong Strider then Hunter of course which gives us hunters prey now here hard breaker traditionally is pretty good being able to Target Two enemies and I would take this if you are doing this before level 11 but once you get to level 11 you want to have Colossus Slayer as it will add that d8 to the volleys which is a load more extra damage on top of everything else then we are good to move on and start getting our first feat at level four the feat that we will be going for is perhaps unsurprisingly Sharpshooter the ability to do an extra 10 damage at the cost of a minus five penalty to attack now we've chosen both Specialties so technically we're only at minus three and we'll mitigate the rest too later down the line so this is just really good extra damage because yes this applies to volley then we move on to level five where we can dip into level two spells and get that extra attack so extra volley a turn and I like to have silence it's just a very useful bit of utility level six is nothing too exciting we just get more enemies and more explorers and again none of them super necessary I'll just grab Keeper of the veil and then another damage resistance and off we Trot to the world of level seven here of course we get a little bit more spellage choosing another at level two then your defensive tactic just kinda go with what you like the look of I would recommend Escape The Horde as being able to freely move without opportunity attacks being too much of a threat is nice but multi-attack isn't the worst either depends on what kind of enemies give you the most trouble then we get to level eight which gives us our second feat which is of course a very exciting and it's exciting because it's quite boring but it's boring because it said who more Dex which is more damage which takes it back to being exciting yay ability improvements and we move on to level nine so uh here we get ourselves at the level three spells and I would definitely recommend lightning Arrow as it's still a really good nuke if you ever need it if for whatever reason you're not going to volley then I would also swap out something like said protection from poison to grab plant growth as it's really nice to have that Battlefield control it's a good use of a level 3 slot and it doesn't take your concentration slot then we get to level 10 so very close to that sweet volley one more favorite enemy and I know this one is kind of awkward because it gives us heavy armor but we'll be getting that from the cleric but I like the Proficiency in history it's whatever and then the final damage resistance level 11 greets us warmly as we have reached our destination for this beautiful ability so spell Wise choose your last little bit of rangeness and then we get our final upgrade in the form of not level 12 Ranger as much as a third feat would be nice we get infinitely more power out of the single level cleric dip grab your cantrips though guidance obviously always amazing and for our domain we want to go whoa primarily so we can do our extra bonus attack attack so we have the war priest charges yes this means that we can do another volley with our bonus attack yeah that's uh that's quite effective and then for your spells I recommend bless it's a good use of your concentration and we'll mitigate your minus attack penalty from Sharpshooter I would also recommend create water to double the damage from your lightning arrow and it's just a good bit of utility to have on hand for one level in a class sanctuary as it's absolutely busted and giving yourself a full free round to set up while enemies can't do anything is evidently amazing and then you required to take healing word you need this we need to be able to heal ourselves with our bonus action and it's one of the reasons this cleric dip is so important outside of the extra volley charges so we are done here we are all set up and it's a quite a nice compact effective set of abilities and spells that we have at our disposal you have a little bit of clerky stuff you have all of the rangery stuff and you can use it all as you see fit create water on people blast them with lightning arrows get your plant growth down and snare people silence the enemy casters yada yada but what we care about then is our main damage dealing device and how we're pumping it in volley just by default it's already doing a really good solid bit of work but we are going to give it much more than that we'll begin with gear then as the gear is really what brings this together and there are some very important pieces we'll start with the good but optional ones such as this use of being able to wear heavy armor the armor of persistence to permanently take half damage from slashing piercing and bludgeoning it's just good but you don't need it to function the build of the damage same with cloak of the weave I've just left this on for your helmet which I do recommend though technically not needed Soul perception the initiative is nice so you get to do your things first but more importantly the plus two to attack to help even further mitigate Sharpshooter plus with the archery style this is now technically only a minus one penalty which is really good you get this from a chest upstairs in the devil's fee at the place where you teleport to the House of Hope and for our boots we have gone for the hell dusk boots so which are in a chest that is gotash is private stash in the keep this is really neat and not being able to get moved and ignoring difficult terrain is nice though we already kind of ignore difficult terrain from the ranger but what I really care about is when you fail a saving throw you can use reaction to succeed this is obviously very powerful and I combine it with Julius prerogative that I just shove on as my melee weapon to get an extra reaction which synergizes really neatly but we're never going to use Amelie weapons so put whatever you want here all right the four slots that really matter well I guess five if we include the bow that you're going to be using to do the damage first and foremost get Gunter mail yes throughout the game in aqua deck 2 just use whatever best bow you have but as soon as you get to act three go to The Foundry kill the steel Titan and get this bow this gives you well self haste for five turns which is amazing and lets you do the those five volleys a turn for five turns but we also in fact perhaps more importantly get ourselves this bolt of celestial light outside of just being a big nuke itself once we have used it every ranged attack now will do an extra 1D for radiant damage which now applies to volley so we always want to open with bolt of celestial light which will then permanently power up our volley with extra radiant damage it's just beautiful for what we're doing here then we have our gloves the held us gloves from the House of Hope simply to add a 1d6 fire damage to our volleys which is a lovely little increase from just your glove slot and the extras here are obviously nice to have too then we get to our jewelry first up we have broad mother's revenge and this this is dropped by kagger in the emerald Grove in act one so when you are healed your weapon gets coated in Magic that deals an additional one to six poison damage this is why it is important that we took the cleric level to get the bonus action healing word because now we can use this on ourselves as our bonus section before our attacking get that dipped in poison so now we have an extra 1D for poison which then yes applies to volley because it just takes your weapon properties so now we're extra poison blasting that is really really good especially for just your next slot is there's nothing else we super need there obviously if you prefer to be tankier or something put the Constitution emulator on and sacrifice the extra damage but my goal here is to pump volley as much as possible then we have ourselves the caustic band for just a flat extra two acid damage to everyone with with every volley and this is sold by deriff in the mycenaed colony in the underdark in act one just a simple buy it from him then our last ring is the strange conduit ring while concentrating on a spell either whereas weapon attacks deal an extra 1D for psychic damage so as volley counts as a weapon attack yes it gains at that 1d4 psychic damage and what we will be concentrating on well that will be our own Celestial haste which of course counts for this which is a really nice win-win once this is run out or if your concentration has been broken then we swap over to bless to mitigate Sharpshooter even more and keep up this extra bit of psychic damage you get this ring in the inquisitors chamber in the gith crash once you've dealt with that it's just in a chest in the main room where you have a chat with vlakif so all of this combining together then if we enter turn-based mode goes thusly we have this initial extra acid and fire and plus 17 piercing damage which is obviously amazing but we begin then with giving ourselves a heel which now adds the poison we want to give ourselves haste so we're concentrating which now adds the psychic and then we want to use our bolt of celestial light which needs me to attack a random innocent civilian I am so so sorry oh it crit oh okay well you know that's fine because now we have our 1d4 radiant which means we're in a position where every single turn for the next five turns or I guess next three turns is we have three what priest charges we can do five 24 to 45 damage volleys on a huge area of enemies consistently that is a potential like what 180-ish damage a turn to as many enemies as fits in this circle yeah that's not too shabby and a really really fun play style and the fact that it's not a spell it can't get counter spelled Etc you can't get shut down in that way is so so nice and it doesn't affect you you can do it on top of yourself if you're surrounded you don't need to leave and get range it's really beautiful and it becomes very accurate even with Sharpshooter thanks to all of our plus two attack rolls and that's kind of it really I know this isn't the most complicated of Creations but I think it's one that is really most of all fun yes it's silly powerful but it's just really cool to take this simple blast of AOE damage amp it to high heaven abuse the fact that it counts as an attack in uh Baldur's Gate and that we can use it as our extra attack too and go to town sanctuate yourself at the end of the turn if you want so we get to keep haste without getting hit and dropping the concentration that's really nice too and again we can still create water and double damage lightning blast you know the drill and obviously if you want to brace before doing all of your volleys that's uh not a bad Ploy too then we're kind of there put all the gear on set up and make sure that you keep bonus action healing yourself to keep the poison damage up and then protect your haste and then just blast volley after volley after the volley and given it's literally your weapon attack but AOE even if there's just a single Target you still might as well just click on them with the volley and the final little neat trick you can do is cast your plant growth which gives you a lot of Battlefield control and helps group people up for the volley but because our volley does a bit of fire damage from our held us gauntlets you can lure everyone in and then use it as a kind of burning fire trap when you set it to light so that's quite neat as well this build is very very potent you can be quite slippy with Sanctuary with the armor persistence with your hides and then just every turn cleave through the ranks and this is so good on many enemy fights you wouldn't believe or I guess hopefully you would after I've just spent all this time explaining it to you in any case then enjoy if you choose to give this a go and I hope you do give it a go because it really is beautiful it's just volley blast and blast and blast and blast and not have a care in the world as you
