yesterday we talked about more macro strategies in Baldur's Gate 3. today we're going to get more specific so essentially there's going to be a lot of interesting moments and diverse classes and situations you can encounter in Boulder's Gate 3. but when you feel like you just can't hit your Target because you always miss it can ruin the fun so I want to talk about how you can improve your chance to hit so you don't feel like the dice decide your fate and that's exactly what's happening you can aim right at your target or swing at someone who's even knocked down it looks like you should hit but you still miss because everything has a chance to hit or miss based on dice rolls and say you have no modifiers generally you're going to have a 50 chance to hit that's basically a coin flip so if you get heads you'll hit if you go to Tails you miss and that's not really good because half of the time you're just gonna do nothing which just feels slow and unfun and even a 75 chance to hit if you get some modifiers in there is not enough in some situations where you absolutely need to ensure that you get this hit off to finish an enemy before they finish you off so the most important thing to look at for improving your chance to hit are basically proficiency and advantage so what is proficiency proficiency adds a bonus to the role so whenever you do an action or something that needs to roll a dice you're going to roll one through twenty you roll really low you land at a three then you're not going to land that attack probably but say you only need to land a five and you roll a three but your proficiency bonus is two that's gonna bump your three up to a five because three plus two is five so you're going to land your attack so the proficiencies are going to increase your chance to hit essentially but Advantage is different from proficiency proficiency sometimes just cannot make up for bad RNG and what advantage does is it sort of normalizes your RNG so essentially what advantage does is you'll roll two dice when you have Advantage instead of one dice so instead of rolling or rather flipping one coin you'll flip two coins and it will take the highest number of those dice rolls so if you think about the the coin flip if you coin flip right you have a chance to get heads or tails it's 50 chance so if you do two coin flips you'll generally get a heads and the Tails each time if you if you really think about it and that's good because on average that means that you're going to you're going to get a heads every time and you're going to get a hit now obviously there's different chances to hit on every boss so it's not going to give you a 50 chance on every attack right but just thinking it in that way you kind of understand Advantage gives you a higher average dice roll and therefore it gives you a better Baseline for your proficiency so you want proficiency and Advantage so the advantage gives you a higher kind of like RNG and proficiency gives you bonuses to that you want both if you have too much proficiency but no Advantage then it doesn't matter because your RNG will probably still not be made up for and if you just get really lucky and you have the IRL stack called luck and you just always roll 20s well then you don't need either of these but not all of us have the IRL Lux stat so we're going to need some proficiency and advantage to actually Lander abilities so how are we going to get that well proficiency is mostly from your class abilities so if you're a cleric all of your spells are going to mostly use the wisdom stat as the proficiency for your spells and therefore how high your wisdom is is going to improve your chance to hit with those spells and likewise as a whatever whatever class you have whatever that main attribute is you need to have that so just you know sorcerer Charisma wizard intellect warlock Charisma just get the right stat and get as much of that as possible now when you're trying to hit with weapons it's a little bit different because your class doesn't depend on what weapon you use your stat does but most classes kind of prefer certain weapons so essentially if you're using a melee weapon you want to have as much strength as possible if you're using a range weapon use as much dexterity if you're using finesse weapons then you can use strength or dexterity so yeah how are we going to get more proficiency than your stat because leveling up is mostly how you get more stats well there are some weapons in the game that you'll see have a plus one in their name and those will essentially give you a plus one to your role those are really good and then there's also going to be Buffs like bless and that'll give you an extra bonus kind of like proficiency not exactly but same mechanic essentially and it's going to give you higher chance to hit so you really want to be using bless a lot and make sure that you don't lose concentration on that because then you know your Striker classes are not going to have as much damage and then they can't peel for the person who is trying to bless them so really you want to keep up that blast buff and bards in general are just really good for ensuring that your hits will land with their bardic inspiration so yeah bless barred having really high stats is one way to get more proficient now for spells you want to avoid spells that have like a dexterity saving throw potential for enemies like sacred flame or acid spray I generally don't like to use those but there are other spells which might not even have a chance to miss like cloud of daggers or spells like shatter where if there is a chance to miss they still take half damage there are also many different ways to get bonuses on your stats or just higher chance to hit throughout the game where it's like a quest that gives you a permanent buff or a debuff even or a specific item that will give you a skill that will give you a proficiency bonus so these are just going to be so many of them that there's really no way to go over all of them but I'll just give a good example of one so if you go into the goblin Village there is a NPC in there who really likes to torture people and if you do his little questline where you let him beat you basically spoiler alert basically you need to take off your clothes and that'll give you a proficiency on the performance check and you just need to cry out as loudly as possible and if you amuse him and please him then you'll essentially get a buff on you pretty much permanently and that will give you a increased chance to hit on your attack rolls whenever you're below a certain percent of HP you can steal the ritual dagger right next to the NPC when they're not looking of course and it will give you a buff to your attack rolls if you make a Sacrifice by losing a little bit of Health but if you're playing a ranger like with a bow and you can use the sacrifice on that dagger and then still get the bonus on your range attack while you're sitting at a safe distance and if you're using it on a rogue that uses melee daggers then you can use it on your off hand and Trigger the bonus action to give you the the attack roll bonus and then with that buff you can go for an attack on your main hand with the added hit chance so if you've got a high stat you've got these proficiencies you've got Buffs and you've also got these kind of like long-term RP Quest rewards you can really get high chances to hit so how are we going to get advantage against the target well there's a cleric spell called guiding bolt which essentially makes the next attack roll against the Target have Advantage but guiding bolt needs to hit for the advantage on the next attack so you need to hit to be able to hit so that doesn't really work out so well and it also uses a spell slot and not everyone is going to have a spell slot in these long-winded battles to be able to afford that they want to do you know maybe a can trip or something like that or be able to have Advantage without expending a resource that's not unlimited because you run out so other ways to do it is through having high ground which you can get by being higher elevated than the target so if you are like on a cliff or something and then you're shooting down on people that's going to help you out for like maybe one turn but then they're gonna run up to you so you want to position yourself so that you can knock them off the cliff and then you can have The High Ground again and then keep having the higher chance to hit and there's also sneak so if you have your allies wait and let your tank start the fight then everyone in your party can join the fight by using a sneak attack and then their first hit into that encounter will be a sneak attack which has advantage and therefore has a really high chance to hit so when you know there's a fight that's about to happen what you want to do is kind of premeditate a way that you can kite towards higher Terrain and then you want to have everyone sneak except the person that you generally go in with like your tank they'll start it this is also why it's good to have Charisma on your tank because your tank is generally the person who wants to do the talking and if things go poorly then you're going to be in a fight and then your tank is going to be in there and then have everyone else kind of stay back and then they can sneak and get the first hit in an encounter which will have Advantage so sneak High ground and then there are certain CC spells which will really give you an advantage like in tangle if you've got a druid or if you've got a spider they can use in web and while you immobilize enemies like that they are also susceptible to attacks you'll have advantage against them so these Kings sometimes cost a spell slot but there are some weapons in the game as well that can give you ensnare and you just want to focus fire targets who have this on them because you'll have advantage on them so you have like your supports with like a you know like a grease bottle you can even use a consumable you can use a scroll you don't necessarily need to use up your spell resources if you've got like tons of Grease bottles so collect those when you see them don't just let them sit there in containers pick them up and use them throw them and then those grease bottles also create a slick field on the floor and enemies can potentially slip again a second time when they walk over it so they can give you multiple CC's with one spell so that's why Greece is one of the better spells to use but it can also hurt you if you're also walking over it so you got to be a little bit careful but if you're using like a range comp grease is extremely good kite them through that grease and you'll be able to shoot them when they fall as well for even higher hit chance so yeah that's pretty much how you're going to be able to get proficiency and advantage in bulgers Gate 3 combat if you enjoyed this content or found it helpful then like the video and subscribe for more because we'll be doing these daily and I will see you next time foreign
