you can easily go through the whole of Baldur's Gate 3 without crafting a single potion refining any materials or even opening or looking at the entire system but if you just take a little bit of time to learn how Alchemy works you can make some really interesting things like health potions weapon Coatings potions of animal speaking potions increase your spell slots elixirs that increase your stats for certain role checks and even speed potions that let you take an extra action per turn so let's go over Alchemy in Boulder Skate 3 because once you start it it's really not that complicated and it can give you a massive Advantage both in and out of combat so first things first reagents Alchemy reagents are literally everywhere in the game your inventory will be full of them and you'll notice them by the icon suggesting what they're used for usually it will show you up this is an alchemical solution which means it can be broken down and reduced into reagents for Alchemy and that's really all they're used for I went through the whole of act one and a lot of Act 2 without ever breaking down a single Alchemy item so that's why I wanted to make this little guide just to demystify it and get you started sooner so once you have all these Alchemy items you need to start extracting them into results Essences ashes suspensions things like that that none of these words really matter it just means you're breaking everything down into powders and salts and kind of just grinding things down and different things need different reagents so you can go through these manually and break them all down or you can just press this big button click extract all ingredients and then you have all your items for crafting I don't think things can go into different things so don't worry about just you know using them for different breaking them down to different things I think each item has its place so only certain things can be recognized assaults only certain things broken down into ashes so yeah just just press this button and you'll literally remove everything from your inventory and break them down into their their core Parts okay so once you've got all these powders and Ashes and everything onto the crafting you have potions elixirs grenades and Coatings you probably already have a lot of these items just from finding them in the game already but being able to craft the potions as you play and as you need them is incredibly useful all these items really need are two things usually you have a specific item and then one of anything else so it'll be a a something Horn of a certain creature and then any salt that's how it kind of works for example the serpent Fang toxin needs snake venom and then any vitriol so the items you need will be from specific areas in the game either grow in there or they'll drop from certain mobs and then the other item can just be anything you've extracted and then once you break all these down and you're looking at crafting you need recipes you can find the recipes in certain places usually they're at the end of side quest missions or main missions and and you'll you'll go through like a big dungeon or something and then you'll find the the quest item you're looking for will be like in a chest and there might be a table to the side with a piece of paper that is a recipe so just kind of as you explore you'll start to find all of these different recipes there are you know there's Guides Online listing every single recipe and where to find it but a lot of these just come from extracting so as you extract different things you'll unlock new recipes so you can see if we just click extract all here we'll learn a new thing from the extracting process so this is a really fast way to just really fill out all of your recipes and get lots of new things you can make other than the things you find in the game but as you do progress you'll you'll kind of level up your potions as well so instead of having a potion that gives you level one spell slots you'll have a potion that gives you level two your potions will go from being very weak to Healing a large amount of health so you know you're going to the superior potions and stuff so yeah just just as you play the game you'll start to a lot of different things and that's it really that's Alchemy in a nutshell that it's as simple as that you find different items that are the bases for different and Alchemy recipes and then you find the backing for those recipes such as the ashes and things that you extract you find the recipes out in the wild and you extract things for new recipes and you just craft as you go and that's it so let's also talk about some of the best Alchemy crafts that I've found so far in the game the best one here for me would be the potion of speed this lets you take an extra turn for three turns it works the same as the hey spell if you've got that but obviously without wasting a spell slot it's crazy on a hard hitter like a fighter or if you've got a big wizard with an AOE spell and you can slap that down twice in a turn that is so strong the potion of speed just needs a hyena ear and any salt you'll fight a ton of hyenas very early on in the game so this is a great potion that's also pretty easy to craft next up the elixir of bloodlust this is an Elixir that lasts until your next long rest I personally think the elixirs are much more useful than potions because you know if you can go a long while between a rest that's a huge buff you're giving your characters this one gives you a super powerful effect of bloodlust when you have this you regain Health whenever you kill an enemy and you gain an extra action upon defeating so this works really well on physical Fighters like Rogues who can already get quite a few turns already Fighters Rangers anyone that can pump out big damage and can take down enemies you can then keep that rolling onto new enemies so yeah for these you just need walk fangs and you can get them pretty early in the game as well okay number three I would say would be the the elixir of universal resistance this is busted This Is 50 resistance to all damage sources for 10 turns it's just wacky for those elixirs you need Divine bone shards which I believe come from the monastery in act two and yeah they're probably harder to come by because they're in a specific place but 50 resistance to all resistances makes any thin environmental just a bit of a meme this this is a huge potion and then lastly some of my favorites are just the utility potions they're just really useful in certain scenarios if you're missing a spell or an ability or if you're missing a character that would fill a certain role a potion could replace that the the potion of animal speaking like you should talk to animals which can give you new quests and help you learn new things about certain characters or situations or help you progress a quest by giving you that information the featherfall potion is really good for you know falling down to secret Areas or finding shortcuts there's also like a vaulting potion for jump speed the potion of mind reading is useful for certain dialogues to learn more about a situation before deciding how to react you could take the Mind read potion and see someone's lying and then be able to skip a certain part of the quest really useful yeah and then obviously there's health potions and all these other Coatings and things like that that can just make the game a lot better I think Alchemy will be really useful if you're like the harder difficulty you probably don't even need it less than that but either way it's nice to do more damage it's nice to take more actions it's nice to be stronger so yeah that is still worth doing still fun but yeah that's it overall Alchemy is such a simple and easy system once you learn the basics and you can use it to just get an edge in combat and out of combat and fill any holes in your team with skills past roll checks it's a good system it's a quick guide that's it take care follow for more and I'll catch you on the next one
