[Music] it's not possible it is I don't believe you believe it I can't believe after all these years and finally discovering the truth well it is true you don't like the Matrix yes I don't like the Matrix oh you're talking about the sequence no the original Matrix all of them I think they're dumb movies but everybody loves the Matrix I don't I think it's overrated I mean okay it's not horrible or anything but when push comes to the shove I think all of them are really really silly films but it's symbolic and mean stuff just because it's symbolic and mean stuff doesn't automatically make it good I mean what am I supposed to lie about my opinion you are gonna piss off so many people if there's anything Big Hero 6 has taught me is that even if you think a film is okay the internet will accept it in a fair and balanced way besides who's gonna take it that seriously who the [ __ ] are you not only here tell that you don't like the matrix it's very understandable Mr algae critic most people have issues with the sequels no I'm not talking about the sequels I'm talking about all of them I just don't like the Matrix really and so what if I don't what does it matter I represent the fan base Mr Ultra critic I am agent schmuck and you should well know that everybody loves The Matrix well I'm sorry I just don't [Music] I mean don't get me wrong it's technology and style inspired a lot in terms of Cinema for years every film was trying to look like the Matrix but even before the crowd-having sequels came out I still thought this was a pretentious and silly film everyone saw it as this D blowing experience when in truth dozens of science fiction stories and movies have done this idea before the idea that our reality is an illusion hell even some of the effects as famous for were being done before this movie came out they just weren't perfected yet it's got some clever stuff but on the whole I just didn't think it worked but Mr Alger critic it's symbolic and means stuff the film is a masterpiece by every definition of the word it's almost as if the writers weren't even writing but transcribing Brilliance have you liked it recently like in the past 10 years it's just the teeny teeny is David I'll tell you what Mr algae critic why don't you just explain why you do not like the movies okay but only if you stop puckering your lips like that but I make no promises all right this is the Matrix why are you looking over there I don't know just feels right oh we start off in an era of film when the color green ruled the world for some reason as secret agents arrive at a break-in and are so determined to convince you that they're not secret agents that they actually wear sunglasses in the middle of the night maybe the Matrix is really bright the orders were for your protection I think we're going to handle one little girl the person inside is Trinity who likes to partake in shots that at the time were awesome but no just kind of seem weird and pointless perhaps it was done to show her legs look good from any angle which they do they do shell runs the cops and ages through effects that really don't hold up very well and she's told to get to a phone as it's her only exit to be teleported through ever wondered if just one time the ringing phone wasn't an exit but instead was just a wrong number sounds like we think the Keanu Reeves as Neo a good looking hacker who's about to realize all his years of staying indoors on his computer is about to make him a badass Action Hero as well as the Messiah I think I'm starting to understand this film's fanbase Hallelujah you're my savior man my own personal Jesus Christ wow you just said it I mean there wasn't any like hidden messages or symbolism no you just sent the film literally spelled out that he was the Messiah what do the philosophy books have to say about that you know all those books that came out that was like philosophy in The Matrix ooh what does it mean what did they say at that point oh so he goes to a club I really wish blade would shoot up where he meets Trinity that was you and my computer how did you do that right now all I can tell you is that you're in danger and that I literally have the same reaction throughout the entire film no really you could impale me on metal wires and I'll still have this face but let's not temp fate I know why you hardly sleep why you live alone and one night after night you sit at your computer he's a dork the answer is and it will find you if you wanted to so Trinity leaves him with that essential vague book talk when the next day at work we see his boss tries to clarify to us more why his rebellious loser behavior is secretly inspired you have a problem with authority Mr Anderson you believe that you are special but somehow the rules do not apply to you obviously you are mistaken can we just cut to every snobby Authority fear who's ever given this movie speech to a young brilliant genius you have a problem with authority he's got a real problem with authority that somehow the rules do not apply to you you don't necessarily think the rules apply to you obviously you are mistaken you will find that it is you who are mistaken and I hope in no way you're drumming to a different beat will save all of mankind I have a bet going Thomas Anderson yeah that's me wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait his name is Tom I mean I know he's given himself the name Neo and that's what everybody calls him but just kind of sucks out the epicness once you know that doesn't it the fate of all mankind is in the hands of a guy named Tom [ __ ] Tom what would Tom do all praise save your Tom it's really Tom yes but Neo was an anagram for one yes but Tom is also an anagram for omt oh my Tom yes and the Tom in that anagram is also an anagram for omt Oh My Tom I understood continue and I will liquidate your testicles okay have a nice day I will not wish you the same as I'm just too angsty and important to do so so Tom gets a call from a man named Morpheus who says agents are after him we'll call across from he was empty so now all the Matrix is wiring coding endless connections all of us being hooked up and they're [ __ ] outwitted by a goddamn cubicle wool you must understand Mr Alger critic all the rebel Fighters have been unplugged but he isn't not yet the Matrix is all controlled by machines they can become anyone and do anything just through coding can't they just do like a code Google search for Tom please stop calling him that and find him that easily I mean just because he's behind a wall doesn't mean his code still isn't there I don't think you comprehend how truly thick that cubicle was but anyway as you can see we ended up getting him it's not like he stood out like like the Most Wanted woman you've been looking for standing right next to you drenched in Leather so loud you could actually call her a bullseye even with you looking right [ __ ] Adder where's your cubicle while I'm at one The Matrix is very glitchy so he meets up with agent Smith played by Hugo weaving who's trying to find out the location of Morpheus he is considered by many authorities to be the most dangerous man alive you can't scare me with this gestapo crap when Tom refuses to tell him they give him the silent treatment and put a tracking device inside but he's intercepted later by Trinity's gang who wants to make sure they know where his loyalties lie right now there's only one rule our way or the highway please Neil you have to trust me because you have been down there Neil you know that road you know exactly where it ends so they get the tracking device out of him by literally ripping it out of his stuff and Reeves forgets to act like getting something ripped out of your stomach really [ __ ] hurts Jesus Christ that things will I mean I know I should be screaming in agony but I'm just so puzzled as to why you haven't attended my wound yet I mean you didn't even put a Band-Aid on it so he finally meets Morpheus as he's told what the Matrix is The Matrix is everywhere it is all around us now In This Very Room you can feel it when you go to work when you go to church it's God Enlightenment the force and as land all rolled into one you take the blue pill you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe you take the red pill you stay in Wonderland it also relieves nighttime sniffling sneezing coughing aching fever so you can see past reality he's tries to turn to the Tom 1000 simply by touching a mirror which is never explained but [ __ ] get used to that as he's teleported to a rebirth metaphor where one of the machines sees him waking up you my mommy flush down to where they dumped the other people who wake up where amorphous and the Gang are there to grab which isn't guarded at all apparently I mean but what the hell couldn't just anyone hang out here to pick up unplugged people to join their army don't you think there'd be at least some security system letting the machines know that people are being picked up who woke up and are probably a little pissed off and might be starting an underground Revolution why are these things so resistant about looking behind a wall foreign just looks funny this is apoc switch and Cipher hey a tank and his big brother Dozer the little one behind you is mouse they will be your obvious disciples for the evening try to guess which one is Judas I think you'll be pleasantly surprised I know what you think actually I have been thinking it ever since I got here why why didn't I take the blue pill actually I'm colorblind and thought I was taking the blue pill but hey when life gives you [ __ ] lemons right this will feel so they plugged Tom in to show him that the Matrix is apparently 90 of where all television ads take place this is the world that you know ignore that past life he's shown that the real world is in ruin and ruled by the machines who took over harnessing people's energy into their power and that Humanity isn't born anymore but grown at some point in the early 21st century all of mankind was United in Celebration marveled at our own magnificence as we gave birth ai ai I mean artificial intelligence really it's the one the [ __ ] one our savior from this Advanced technological world has to be reminded of what a I means isn't that like being the world's greatest frat house and not knowing what BYOB stands for it's tomorrow I have even more long-winded speeches so they teach Tom that in this mental realm of Illusion the most powerful force is still apparently just beating the [ __ ] out of each other Kung Fu great now try to pick up acting but to their credit they do still show that mind over matter is still the greatest weapon free your mind [Music] and thus went the last remaining thread of anybody ever taking my career seriously I'm just always going to be summed up in that one word thanks wachowskis [Music] but thankfully this world operates on Toontown logic as Tom learns yet another important lesson I thought it wasn't real your mind makes it real so my praying coughed blood but it looks like the machines are trying to track their ship down [ __ ] squid is Chris Woody I said no killing machine designed for one thing Search and Destroy you know I just want to thank you for finishing my sentence there because if you didn't I'd just be like one thing and then like nobody would answer it I would just look really awkward and stupid but because of you continued it suddenly looked badass and awesome so thank you so much for making that not the least bit pretentious nice of you that was a really dumb scene okay schmuck how the [ __ ] is this idiot supposed to be the one I mean I know you're supposed to be learning and waking up the stilted acting the pretentious dialogue and the painfully obvious metaphors we cannot hide from the truth any longer allow us to introduce ourselves I am malcolmus and this is my partner tamity really that's what you're going with well you wrote it okay whatever but what about schmuck he's gonna find us back here not likely no I suppose he could be hiding behind the door but that just wouldn't add up all right so tell me what do I have to do that which is your destiny now you understand everything as I explained it to you not really I couldn't understand what you're saying over all your clothes will you start again your clothes are so loud by every meaning of the word just stand still and tell me you must review the movie and show people that it wasn't the perfect film they thought it was oh that's not too hard but wait who will listen to my rambling philosophical speeches oh I will I need a nap anyways very good so as I was saying we needed to get leather so our characters go into the Matrix to meet up with a character named The Oracle who will determine whether or not he's the one to save the world [Music] remember draw no attention to yourself whatsoever good what I used to eat that really good news sorry that was my attempt at acting like a human being it failed I know it goes into a room filled with people so Advanced that they watch giant bunnies on TV when one of the kids teaches him a neat little trick do not try and bend the spoon instead only try to realize the truth there is no spoon now truth be told I actually really like this scene I think it's one of the more brilliant metaphors of the movie but because this is a comedy show I'm just gonna play this or Britain's playing him again I'm excited so he meets the Oracle a program who can apparently predict the future because we all know how that software Works to our credit though it does sort of feel like she's evolved to a higher plane the higher plane of actually having a personality do you think you are the one honestly I don't know open your mouth say ah now I'm supposed to say hmm that's interesting but I'm not the one sorry kid what was said was for you and for you alone she said I wasn't the one I didn't hear that she said you're gonna risk your life can't hear a thing she said you totally shouldn't do it today if you do it you're gonna endanger everybody but Tom notices something on their way back [Music] Deja Vu is usually a glitch in The Matrix it happens when they change something so agents finally come in and try to stop them wow only an hour and 20 minutes in and we finally have some gunfire If This Were Monster Squad we'd be wrapping up by now dude what's with the yelling you're not red Brown you don't need to announce your rage I'm so excited and I just can't hide it you know if you want to preserve the image of Morpheus as this badass Action Hero you might want to consider cutting the clip of his head slamming into a toilet seat like a drunk college student just saying harsh is the mysticism a bit man that much has changed since 1999. [Music] it turns out there's a traitor in there miss the angry Italian who always plays the angry Italian if you have anything terribly important to say the switch please don't like this not like this oh they gave so much emotion for that character that had what two lines in the entire film I'm sure gonna miss the way she wore White too late God damn you Cipher you almost made me act there I don't believe it but he's at by one of the other crew members that got electrocuted in the stomach because as this movie has shown us blows to the belly or like pets with a pillow for some reason and really I feel better if anything so they had to save Morpheus from being bored into submission from another one of weaving speeches every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium if you don't take me up on my kissing advances I'm just gonna have to steal the first smooch as Tom and Trinity dress like those kids who always wanted attention in high school take that innocent security guards just doing your job tell your wife and kids I said [ __ ] you what things get tricky when Tom has to go up against an agent who he's been told nobody has ever survived again seeing how they can dodge bullets from any distance Dodge this until now who knew that apparently the secret was giving a solid two seconds saying a catchphrase allowing him to know exactly where the bullet is going to go and yet somehow forget to use that speed of light movement to dodge it I gotta give credit I want to figure that out they don't seem to use that speed of light movement here either when Tom opens fire while partaking in this film's favorite pastime showcase porn oh if I could orgasm bullets I would and because the first Morpheus yell wasn't funny enough we now get it in slow-mo baby [Music] is he breaking up as James or singing the last note of an Arya they have a pretty cool helicopter chase with Trinity jumping off just before the captor explodes it's cool but why would somebody program window tidal waves into the Matrix is it kind of like that hidden one up there's really no Rhyme or Reason why it's there or how you're supposed to discover it but you're just gonna benefit off of how cool it is anyway if so I'll take it it's cool I know it he's the one yes only the one could hold on to a woman who weighs less than him wait how is this particularly one-ish they're not out yet we spelled out everything else for the audience Why Stop Now [Music] I want to tell you something everything the Oracle told me is you know let's pretend that there's agents chasing us and can turn into anybody in times of fact and perhaps we should save this little chitchat for when that's not happening for example your talking might take up the exact amount of time for me to not Escape thanks [ __ ] Mr Anderson so because this movie is first half nothing but talk in second half nothing but fighting here's some more fighting you're empty so are you but I meant your head the thought occurs to me Mr Anderson that we are far too dusty but through the logic of Merry Melodies he just ends up inside the train and the chase continues [Music] you ever wonder how once again they can dodge bullets so quickly but can't somehow run faster there's not like a matrix cheat code or something like that oh Goodbye Mr Anderson your reign of mundane Terror has ended so as the machines tried to break into their ship Trinity in this groundbreaking philosophical mind-blowing movie that everybody Praises literally brings it back through the power of love I'm not afraid anymore [Music] [Music] oh yeah I could totally tell by the incredible chemistry you guys shared throughout the entire film like that scene that scene and that scene but hey don't hog all that romantic staring to your cells save some for Edward and Bella so Tom comes back to life because Jesus and finally takes out agent Smith [Music] whoa I'm becoming blander more wooded uninteresting and have a sudden interest to ruin The Day the Earth Stood Still oh draft we've been foiled by The Power of Love [Music] so just to clarify this revolutionary groundbreaking movie that everyone was just blown away by how different it was has the white guy saving the black guy Christ symbolism or obvious than Man of Steel and a woman saving the man not through physical strength but through emotional support well apart from every single movie I've ever seen in my life that is very original stuff so tom leaves a message to the machine saying that the revolution is on and the uprising will begin that is he sounds so disinterested I'm not sure if he's saying it or reading it off cue cards I'm going to hang up this phone and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see a world without rules and controls Without Borders anything is possible thus he ascends into the credits and the movie finally wraps up so that was The Matrix and is it really the Masterpiece everybody's saying it is don't get me wrong there's a lot of cool scenes and some very clever analogies but there's also a ton of stuff that doesn't make sense which would be fine if the characters were more fun and distracted us from that but the leads are just so wooden that everyone else takes this material way too seriously almost like the writers think they're Paving the way for some sort of new religion or philosophy I remember when this film came out everybody was saying this was the new Star Wars I really Tom and Trinity have the same chemistry as Han and Leia the look and style is timeless that'll never age year after year hmm no something's not right here some symbols work and even the initial idea isn't that bad but the only game changer is its technology and even that at times it's starting to look really David I don't hate this movie if anything I do appreciate what impact it's had on action films to be Visual and even an intellectual medium but as a film I just don't think it holds up not the worst but definitely dated and besides there is one major plot hole that everybody seems to ignore and what plot hole is that Mr Ultra crit icality help me can't my leather won't allow me to keep my swords damn it he kicked his ass I can't my leather to fight and it's my gun [Music] ideas Mr algebra all right I'll accept defeat as long as you answer one major plot goal about the Matrix I'm all eyebrows Mr Ultra critic why do we need the Matrix because it's a masterpiece a Great Masterpiece is there another coin but now I'm not talking about Matrix the movie I'm talking about Matrix the idea the idea inside the movie if the computer's feed off of people's energy while they're asleep then why create the Matrix at all why not just let them dream or make them brain to lobotomize them or something Matrix is a flawed product we need it it's not what you said you said the Matrix is a master class correct I said a Great Masterpiece uses or any other time find the review back for you and play it back I know what I said I don't have to have it play back to me sometimes writers take matters into their own hey no schmuck a moment ago you said writers never take matters into their own hands so the Matrix won't even be around should it I don't even know what movie We're satirizing anymore just say you can't handle the truth is that what we're doing I don't know why is there a matrix it's impossible why is there a matrix the whole purpose of the movie they couldn't have overlooked something so cute why is there I'll just blow up in a stupid effect I know you're out there people who don't like the Matrix I'm going to hang up this phone and show you a world where you don't need to love what everyone else loves or hate what everyone else hates a world without eye a wood without pressure a world without weird leather pandering to a very specific demographic seriously what what is up on that where we go from there is a [Music] love it foreign [Music] hello I'm the Nostalgia Critic I remember it so you don't have to we'll see how the Matrix clearly ripped off some of Japan's most famous animes Japan decided they wanted to steal some of that [ __ ] back hence the animatron [Music] after the success of the first Matrix movie and in between filming The Matrix sequels several animators and storytellers including the wachowskis decide to get together and do a series of shorts based on the idea of the Matrix the result is the animatrix an anthology that many claim is actually better than the Matrix films themselves in many respects they're kind of right in others well let's just say the subtlety of the Matrix mixed with the subtlety of Japan is anything but subtle so let's take a quick glance at One Source materials stealing from another source material stealing from another source material this is the animatrix the first one is the final Flight of the Osiris a CG short written by the wachowskis and boy does it show aside from the CGI looking for the most part pretty damn impressive especially when it comes to human textures it has all the Wachowski trademarks totally pointless action scene check good looking blands trying to sound important but instead sounding disinterested horny sexual issues being explored under the guise of avant-garde storytelling double check the story is the Osiris has discovered a drill that the machines have built to break into Zion and I had to get that information to Zion as fast as possible The Matrix for some reason is the only way they can get that information to them does this technological World hate phones for some reason and they all end up dying in the process um sucks to be them it would be nice if they actually let us oh I don't know get to know these people so it felt more important when they got axed off but it's pretty obvious that's not the Short's intention the intention like anything related to The Matrix is to be an exercise in new technology and looking cool and for a short it does it fine you don't give a [ __ ] about what happens to them but they look so cool while you're not giving a [ __ ] about what happens to them that's a fun little demonstration of cool CGI effects and some neat visuals it's totally passable the next one however is anything but short it's another one written by the wachowskis describing the history of how the Matrix came into being and on the one hand it looks amazing some of the imagery is downright inspired and dripping with beautiful animation with that said it still doesn't excuse the fact that it makes little to no sense and is still deep fried in pretentious batter I mean like extra crispy pretentious batter the story is told through the Zion archives which looks like every religion was smashed into a hologram card where they reveal a path where Humanity relied too much on technology robots did all the work and Mankind just leaned back and relaxed an interesting idea when suddenly these machines with no motions or thoughts of their own suddenly get emotions and thoughts of their own it happens I think my toaster is looking at me funny this apparently spawns from one of them murdering his owner because he didn't want to be deleted of course if these things were supposed to be programmed with emotions before it's pretty obvious this will happen a long time ago but because two popular commentaries are life just happens and man equals bad they decide they do subtly have feelings now but mankind being stupid evil lust decides to destroy them all and doesn't care for their emotions that may or may not be there programmed in originally oh the confused Manatee the surviving machines create their own country and even though they were banished from Humanities somehow still do Humanity's work you still following this there's a Tess leader and I can't show you I'm gonna fail it but get this The Machine's economy does better flinging the human economy out of whack so again being big stupid evil us we just decide to blow them all up because man like boom and evil and everything wrong but the machine survived and decided they had enough so they begin to enslave mankind so our big dumb idiot commentary selves go to the obvious logical conclusion destroy the sky yeah because they're solar operated this would apparently destroy them all but even that doesn't work again totally not explained why as the machines finally enslave all of humanity and eventually form the Matrix to feed off of our energy I guess we suck bye so I'm just gonna come out and say it the shock value in this is beyond exploited there's some damn gritty acknowledgments of Nam the Holocaust Street riots real crime scenes and they tried to make them as disturbing and gory as possible desperate to get some sort of emotional reaction now don't get me wrong I have nothing against intense imagery if it's fit and it's deserving I say go for it take us out of our comfort zone before science fiction story it doesn't really explain the science nor the fiction in any logical sense we can't get behind the emotion of it because on top of there being no one to connect with there's just no rational progression to what's going on commentary is supposed to explain why or how something is the way it is where this seems more focused on getting an emotional response with disturbing imagery but no reason why but with that said it is still something to admire just on its visual ambition I could totally see someone getting ideas for a stronger project just based on this dramatic layout but in terms of making any sense or becoming emotionally invested this is definitely not the place to look kid story is the last of the Wachowski written shorts and give a credit that it at least attempts to make an emotional connection this time or at least feel something resembling an emotional experience most of it focuses on a high school boy who spends his time on the computer trying to follow the path Neo and Trinity left behind eventually Neo gets in contact and agents try to capture him we have a long chase scene and in the end he literally makes a leap of faith and somehow gets broken out of the Matrix again explaining it's just for people who want to make sense of things and we see that Neo and Trinity are there to greet him on the one hand this could very easily be a recruitment video for a cult trust our faith drink the Kool-Aid and off yourself trust me you'll be okay but I think the idea behind it is more dedicating everything you have to something of value that you truly believe in and don't get me wrong it is a little sketchy especially seeing how the kid commits suicide and gets rewarded for it at the end I think it's pretty obvious that's going to press some buttons for some people but I'm gonna make the Assumption that's not the shorts intention the intention is to create an experience of a rush A Rush of the world around you speeding up slowing down looking detail looking sloppy and all of it building up to this great big moment of truth it's still makes no sense but it does manage to capture a true experience you feel the Panic you feel the Intrigue you feel the fear you feel like the adrenaline itself is putting you in another world and as that goes it's pretty well directed you can see every sketch and pencil line in every second giving a sense of life and action knowing that every drawing is done frame by frame it's not just a CGI puppet that they're moving every motion is done from scratch and you can feel the energy off of all of it that alone makes it really worth watching if not taken the wrong way it is pretty impressive to check out the next one is my absolute favorite it starts off with a couple sparring in a training program when one of them offers the other a way out a way to return to the Matrix and live a normal life again what's real doesn't matter what's important is how we live our lives but we can't go back duo we know the truth now we can forget all of this confused and not knowing what to do they partake in both a verbal and physical fight debating what's the right choice and what isn't running away won't paint anything are the one that's running away stop pretending this takes up the majority of the short all leading to a twist ending that I won't give away here but I personally thought was a great way to finish this in my opinion is what the Matrix should be quickly understand these characters feel their relationship identify with both sides of their struggle and both the fighting and visuals match the emotional impact of what they're going through there's no shock value or forced commentary it's just watching these two people you sympathize with duke it out through hardship and sacrifice it's all you need and is done to the best of its ability the artwork complements a great the imagination is strong the fighting's cool and you're with them every step of the way what can I say it's hands down my personal favorite the next one is pretty well done too once again focusing more on an experience than a detailed story world record shows an athlete who's about to break exactly that the world record but literally in being so fast he breaks the chains of the Matrix and actually starts to wake up and see the truth based only on his physical abilities it's actually a very interesting idea the majority of the short is simply focusing on this experience but once again it's all you need you feel the limit this guy is pushing himself to and you worry both that he'll either wake up and be destroyed by agents or that he'll fail and not break the record at all or even the third option that he might push himself so far that he might not even survive again it's the simplest things that can be the most effective and both the pacing and the animation style totally pull it off it's also an intriguing idea that you can see another plane simply based on physical attributes it's been discussed before by many but this one is smart enough to know it's a visual medium and it's better to show it rather than talk about it and it does a great job in doing definitely worth the time to check out which brings us to Beyond which is probably my second favorite out of the series again taking a very simple idea and simply focusing on the experience of it a young woman and some kids she stumbles across discover what is simply defined as a glitch in The Matrix I imagine there's a lot of those with all the plot holes these movies make but once again the majority of the short is just them interacting with the glitch they can make time go backwards change the weather in small areas and even slow down the world to see it in all its beauty again the focus is the experience and it's done with very simple yet connectable characters it does go a little abstract near the end by hinting at something bad I'm not sure what it is but honestly because it's mostly a visual experience and it's obvious there's Parts left open to interpretation I don't mind it it's kind of like knowing through all these incredible things that you may go through in life there's always a dark troubling side waiting on the other end that's what I got out of it but maybe it doesn't mean that at all maybe it means something totally different I don't know I'm just glad they're leaving it up for us to decide instead of jamming in so much plot detail that actually makes less sense the more you describe it good animation good experience good short next is a detective story a film Noir about what else a detective trying to find the infamous Trinity um that's really about it not much really happens outside of the search for her but if you're a fan of dark shadow Shady blinds and alcoholic men and trench coats it's a fun little story the style once again is great grainy dark and dripping in classic film Noir style probably a style of her substance short but the style is so nice and the substance so not pretentious and annoying that I think it works out okay if you like film Noir you'll be glad you check this out and the last one is definitely a weird one to say the least it starts out on the surface of the real world still as apocalyptic as ever as a rebel is chased down by machines but it turns out she's part of a team that captures machines and reprograms them to think they're in a reality where they need and they want to serve mankind sounds familiar right turning the tables a little bit they show it things like games entertainment lust identity trust and all and probably the strangest but still creatively entertaining way possible you might be spending half the time asking yourself why they look like Ian flux and that's because the same desire worked on both the other half you'll be wondering what you're even looking at but still kind of sucked in as to how they're winning over this machine using entirely visual means with no dialogue whatsoever this actually kind of makes sense all a computer knows its words and numbers so getting it to understand emotions would be more of a visual experience rather than a verbal one it's a clever idea with unique layout and a different way of telling its story and its ending is something right out of a Gothic tale or a Frankenstein movie tortured dark and wondering if the right thing was ever done it it could have benefited from a bit more character but for what it is in the time frame it has it's pretty slick and fun to watch it's out there but it's definitely a short that brings you along for the ride that makes you glad that you're out there [Music] xn is it is it better than the Matrix movies personally I think it is true it does have several bloated moments of self-importance but I think you kind of come to expect that from The Matrix anyway the shorts that work really work and even the ones that don't still have so much artistic ambition and Technical wonder that I'd still recommend checking them out anyway visually spectacular with some interesting ideas if you're looking for a bit more substance for your animani this is not a bad item to spend I'm a Nostalgia Critic critic I remember it because you will never live that down [Music] hello I'm the Nostalgia Critic I remember let's enter the pathway of knowledge so that the prophecy of the destiny of the truth or the purpose of the reason we are here uh what are you still doing here what well I think we finished our story arc with you guys so what are you still doing here oh no there's much much more you can still do with us I don't think so we have a beginning a middle and end it was totally serviceable anything else would just be filler no clearly we were just telling part one of our story part one yes just like all the other obviously planned trilogies like Highlander Transformers and of course Pirates of the Caribbean plus one maybe another oh I didn't know that yeah but those were all meant to just be one film until the studio forced them to turn them into trilogy but we got so much more money out of it I already got lip injections so I can finally smile oh yeah that just happened you'll get out of here the movie has enough filler as it is hmm maybe telling a critic that he's the Messiah was a bad idea they already think that of themselves anyway Matrix re-blooded [Music] after the surprise popularity of the first film and seeing how many people were constantly paying homage to it Warner Brothers felt they had a gold mine on their hands and felt the need to stretch this out into a Trilogy well followed was an impressive looking spectacle that needed to throw in more of what made the first film so popular including the batshit more endless speeches more pointless fight scenes more self-indulgent dialogue who like Shyamalan thinks sounds more epic if you don't use contractions we do not wish to start a pen some of you do not but we did not know what happened that is of course you know why we are here seriously writers why are you so afraid of the apostrophe okay damn he just wants to make your sentences more practical or most Matrix fans would probably cream their pants for this most of them actually were disappointed by it because even for a matrix movie it connected practically none of it to a coherent story let's see if we can make sense to what was originally trying to be so blatantly obvious this is the Matrix Reloaded so the movie starts off by establishing a subtle atmosphere through build up and mystery oh what's your house keys you made me come sir we have a report of a dominatrix who somehow blew up a building with a motorcycle whatever you do don't use your guns and pray she's not armed with a helmet she is certain God help us all I'm in so finally they explain what's going on and or just more of this [ __ ] [Music] is portraying Tom who keeps having a dream about his girlfriend Trinity smashing into a car funny most of the women he dates dreams about him smashing into a car Morpheus became Way by Lawrence Fishburne has yet another bloated talk with a crew member named Link Link yes sir oh I do hope it only takes a sentence to say goes on for several minutes given your situation I can't say I fully understand your reasons for volunteering to operate on board my translation trust me okay Move Along so morpheus's game meets up with a bunch of other people who like to wear shades in Dark Places as they pick the safest of meeting grounds The Matrix which I think these films have spent most of their time establishing why that's not the safest of meeting grounds but hey this film also suggests the world's gonna be saved by Hot Topic are you surprised by anything anymore speaking of which here come the men in Bland I mean anomaly do we still only human let's do it it's not even been 10 minutes and we're already on our third action scene we're trying to top Sin City for most violence per minute um still want to show off that I'm awesome the power of Reeves compels you know Morpheus you should have seen him where is he now he's doing this Superman thing well if by Superman you mean spending a lot of money on a computer generated Bland psychopath who hurts more people than he saves then yeah that's a fair assessment but don't worry there's more butt loads of money this movie's budget wants to flaunt like look at all these effects going into just the landing of their damn ship Nebuchadnezzar this is Zion control maintain present velocity and stand by imagine that control wait wait wait wait wait you need to go into the Matrix just to push buttons you need to go on to a computer to simulate going on a computer let's go on to a computer so as you can see the incredible Zion that's been built up in the past just seems to be a series of Mall bridges that just like the real Holy Land is dangerous over hyped underwhelmingly depressing and yet people will still fight to the [ __ ] death for it meanwhile Morpheus has to talk with the commissioner yeah I'm sure he has like a different title or whatever but listen to it he's the angry commissioner I wanted to offer you the chance to explain your actions I wasn't aware that my actions required any explanation you were given a direct order to return to Zion I don't care about oracles or prophecies or Messiahs I care about one thing I need soldiers to obey my orders you have no rights Morpheus what about the rights of that little girl I'm just trying to figure out how they went for Titus to this crap you were great I know I was great in that last up see you soon oh yeah I forgot to mention remember how when the first film Tom and Trinity had no chemistry whatsoever well in this one they make up for that not by giving them things in common or personality traits to work off of but rather just have them suck face whenever they have a second alone it's really awkward it's kind of like when Michael Jackson kissed Lisa Marie Presley It's So forced and in your face that I think a school play of two kids kissing would be more believable tonight let us honor these men and women let us remember those that have been lost now I would like someone else to pose this prayer I give you more so Morpheus greets his sleeveless Brethren and lets out a speech that's pretty much every movie speech you've ever heard in every movie let us be heard from black sky tonight let us make them remember this is Zion and we are not afraid right We Dine in our independence day [Applause] and of course to honor the Fallen dead Morpheus mentioned earlier they break out the rave music and start [ __ ] like jackrabbits it's what their memories would have wanted so nice to see this apparently religious ceremony is looking about as close to the imagery of hell as you can get of course it doesn't help that there's even more of Tom and Trinity making out and it goes on I'm not kidding here for almost five minutes five minutes of this did you just look at it with so production and say [ __ ] it we can make it even weirder just add some wet dress mud and back sockets you're making delivery stuff look normal [Applause] oh sorry much like the movie it was all built up to a disappointing climax bogus so after burning man 2.1 was Zion apparently deserves its sleep after its religious [ __ ] and tries to get some rest [Applause] but little do they know they know to get infected by a heavy dose of ham agent Smith played by Hugo weaving infects the real-life brain of the crew member which even by matrix rules I don't really get are flesh and blood can be hacked but that doesn't matter much as Tom is about to go see the Oracle I can take you to her but first I must apologize apologize for what gee I don't know a fight what a shock you do everything around here with a fight I want to see my mother fight I want to get some sugar fight I want to fight let's have a philosophical conversation about what it means to be human what you are the one could have just asked no you do not truly know someone until you fight them so I should fight whoever I'm dating he once again meets up with the Oracle on a park bench why don't you come and have a sit this time maybe I'll understand I'll suit yourself I felt like sitting I know just to be clear that was the comedy portion of the film folks deciding whether or not he was going to sit down next we're gonna discuss the hilarious ramifications of blinking too fast they do still blink right candy you already know if I'm going to take it wouldn't be much of an oracle if I didn't but if you already know how can I make a choice because you didn't come here to make the choice you've already made it translation you're a program yep long but something weaving This Way Comes as conveyed by these dark crows who are so over the top menacing they should be carrying signs saying he's bad surprised to see me no I don't fully understand how it happened perhaps I'm part of you and printed onto me something overwritten or copied or maybe it's just lazy writing now here I stand Because of You Mr Anderson because of you I've changed I'm unplugged a new man so to speak like you apparently they still have in programmed my inflections right but if Christopher Walken can milk it why can't I there's no [Music] no snow without purpose we would not exist translation I hate you I hate you what's revenge of the Smiths as a group of them try to attack Tom however when that doesn't work he gets even more and when that doesn't work Pete gets even more and when that doesn't work he gets more and more and more and holy [ __ ] [ __ ] I should be bored by the fact that this is the fifth fight scene and we're not even halfway through the movie yet but honestly the access is just so batshit insane it's actually kind of ridiculously fun the fact that I've seen dozens of Hugo weapons constantly get punched in the face like a whack-a-mole it's [ __ ] hilarious to me I'm not gonna lie I can watch it for hours just imagine him saying ow every single time he's smacked of course we go into video game land again when the seriously dated CGI takes over but even that's kind of funny when the pile on top of him like an army of cartoon ads well they just take on the shape of a big giant monster while they're at it come on get out of there don't make me raise my voice again foreign why didn't he do oh geez does everybody have a [ __ ] speech shoved up their ass it is of course a way of all things you see there is only one constant causality will you shut up there as that woman watch you see I have sent her a dessert it starts so simply each line of the world I'm creating a new faked yep we're so desperate folks that we're actually talking about the philosophical justifications of cake [ __ ] cake that or they're trying to fetishize cake but to be fair the line between the two is pretty blurred in these films beneath a poised appearance out of control would you care to order I'll have the cake where are you going are you doing too much wine I must take a piece we say I think five minutes of food porn for that and why does a computer need to pee if you want the key maker follow lady but I've seen boxes of wet matches that have more of a spark than they do I want to sound well for the good of the mission honey sucks to be me so they find the key maker but get intercepted this results in yet again marquian food you know I'm just gonna make the crazy assumption he's gonna win this one again yeah let's see yeah so let's just see what happens when he tries to follow Frenchy he uses his hacking powers to put him in the mouth meanwhile Trinity and Morpheus tried to escape Frenchy's so white they're transparent minions as well as a slew of agents to get the key maker to safety and I'm not gonna lie this is a really cool scene like wow this still really [ __ ] holds up the action isn't just Kung Fu and it isn't just computers it's a good mix of car chase gun play super powers hand to hand car Foo and with pretty much all the important characters making an appearance well Smith doesn't but I think he made enough [ __ ] appearances don't you [Music] problem once again like all of these movies is how the hell is the Matrix still kept [ __ ] secret after all this was every single one of these weird ass occurrences explained by natural causes and in other news reports are flooding in of people jumping on cars somehow destroying them flying green albinos who can float through walls sword fights on top of trucks and a dozen instances of people defying the laws of gravity police reports say that it was the wind foreign but just when it looks like all hope is lost Tom literally flies halfway around the world just in time to grab Morpheus and the key maker all right now this in my opinion is one of the biggest holes in the move Cricket we have found the pathway of knowledge oh can't it no it can't it's in the kitchen we'll take the back place so that Asians won't suspect us too late for that I'm afraid [ __ ] no he put us in the mountains all right quick we need you to fly us halfway around the world in order to get us back or we could just use another way to the kitchen through the office but therapy mountains yes I know there'd be mountains out there but there's still office in here it's like our idiot Messiah he flies thousands of miles around the globe to reach our heroes but all he had to do was turn the [ __ ] around and go back the way he came he never closed the door behind him so it's the exact same location in two minutes ah so instead of flying around the world we could take a few steps to the kitchen to the kitchen yes to the kids this is the pathway to knowledge yes behind this door are the answers to all of the Matrix movies all the answers like why they're so silly and make no sense every single one of them well let's check it out Zoom that didn't seem right there must have been a connection issue we must destroy the power source yeah yeah another side mission you guys go do that while I finish up the review stop it no well as you can see our heroes are starting yet another side mission even though they just got done with one other [ __ ] side mission the key maker talks about breaking into the secret headquarters to have Tom meet the architect the designer of the Matrix how do you know all this I know because I must know is my purpose or maybe it's just lazy writing I've not come here by chance I do not believe in chance it is our destiny I believe this night holds for each and every one of us the very meaning of our life Jesus translation I like talking we know so Tom tells Trinity not to help him in this because he's afraid his dream will come true and she'll die but of course when [ __ ] goes wrong it was the only one who can possibly save them I will not stand here and do nothing I will not wait here to watch them die I'm sorry I screamed at you like that I know I can be really emotional breaks in just like we saw in the intro allowing them to sneak through the door but the keymaker gets shot it's meant to be Murphy's oh no I'm Really Gonna Miss whatever character he was supposed to have your name will always be remembered with what'sits and who's it's and that guy Tom enters the door locates the architect and naturally he spouts more philosophical speeches your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the Matrix you are the eventuality of an anomaly which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate while it remains a burden isiduously avoided translation respect it and thus not Beyond a measure of translations you are undoubtedly Gathering the anomaly is systemic creating do we ever figure out what the [ __ ] he was saying in the scene inevitability this is the moment where the writing is literally so pretentious and trying so hard to sound important that nobody could understand what the hell he was saying the return to the source allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you carry your five predecessors were by design based on a similar predication a contingent affirmation thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly dude is this gonna be on the test the best I can understand is that Tom is an anomaly of the Matrix that keeps popping up and the machines can't get rid of but it sounds like he's the sixth version to do so and this is the sixth time they're about to destroy Zion so he has a choice where he can either save all of Zion or save his dominatrix who's about to die just like in his dream but order your right leads to the source and the salvation of Zion the door to your left leads back to the Matrix to her and to the end of your species our Messiah folks [ __ ] the world I want some more leather-coated Moss [ __ ] that's owning up to my responsibility as a great leader what if [ __ ] Jesus came back from the grave with an excuse like this hello my followers just a quick heads up you're all going to die and it is 100 my fault but I just wanted to give you a quick glitch of what you're all getting killed off for badass look at that ass now I can get whipped beaten thrown up on a cross but if you were to ask me anything about that ass that ass is gonna win but hey that's messiah's for you am I right hope you're not all too pissed and have a nice day jeez out so Tom races at the speed of whoa bringing apparently half the goddamn City with him [Music] another strange event today as hundreds of cars were blown across the city in the middle of the night presumably killing several citizens and costing millions in property damage it happens but it looks like Tom is too late as Trinity bites the bullet and dies off but death is more like a suggestion in these movies than a final destination I'm not letting go I can't I love you too damn much oh yeah you sound like it so we use this Kung Fu CPR to bring her back as we see our mechanical calamari are lining up to kill everybody off no life has killed the dream I dream but Tom makes an interesting discovery oh wait I think I see where they're going with this but I will give away now but yeah I'll tell you in a little bit he passes out and they find yet another ship to pick them up but unfortunately they have an unwelcome visitor on board foreign [Music] wait what is that guy it's kind of hard to tell upside down maybe if you switch it but wait who was that guy well remember that crew member Smith infected that was mostly kept in the shadows and very hard to see and remember this idea that they never really explained very well that now Smith can hack into our own brain somehow kind of a rocky narrative to follow in order to play your Ren and Stimpy sting music over but okay I'll still act like it's a big deal [Music] when I was younger I actually liked this film more than the first one because of the access and because it was so over the top it still had no character and the writing was laughably full of itself but that's pretty much what I thought the first one anyway this one at least went balls to the wall over the top but I will admit watching it again I do realize at least the first film for all it's yapping did keep focused on what it was talking about this one is just all over the place trailing off into conversations and fight scenes that have nothing to do with anything so yeah it is definitely worth a ridicule that a gift from most fans unless they're going where I think they're going with it and if they are I think they can actually save a good chunk of the series with it and that of course is being hello the pathway is open critic discover the secret of the Matrix movies right [Music] [Music] [Music] black Willy Wonka you designed the Matrix movies oh yes I did it in between making Twizzlers and caramelizing those that disagree with My Views I think I I think I finally discovered the secret of the Matrix movies what it's all building up to and what is that critic okay the real world Zion all of that is actually just another Matrix a backup program so that all the people that think they got out of the Matrix actually never did nope but that's not what it's building up to it all but that would be such an Obviously good twist it would have worked on so many levels would have explained why Tom could destroy the machines at the end it would have explained why Smith could infect a human brain it would have explained why all the people in The Matrix weren't affected by all the obvious glitches going I just how could this not be it would explain every single movie mistake the films have ever made I agree but they're sticking to the safer route he's just Jesus he's just Jesus well great we haven't seen that story yet so what's with all the TVs you're just seeing how many television sets the movie can suck on no those are actually my teleprompters to remind me of my confusing lines quid pro quo vis-a-vis the outcome of one anomaly is higher than the probability of you know screw it I'm just gonna give it to you straight I was merely commissioned to make the Matrix movies the real masterminds are somewhere else if you want to know the truth don't trust anyone the ones you think you can trust have already been taken over who who's doing this people much darker darker oh so critic what did you discover well I discovered someone else's behind the Matrix movies and I shouldn't trust any but [Music] you sure you guys are okay and not taken over by any evil entities and or my manipulating life forms why do you ask I don't know you're just not making as many long-winded speeches as usual we're just making sure that you don't stumble across anything I mean don't stumble across anything I mean segue into another conversation well done well let's wrap up Matrix month by taking a look at what many consider the worst of the Matrix trilogy Matrix Revolutions foreign has strong opening at the box office the audience reaction was less than thrilled both Die Hard fans and common moviegoers didn't seem too excited to see where the story was going anymore hence very few people saw the final installment and it bombed at the box office I know right hard to believe a film series would deteriorate into explanatory dialogue and lifeless performances after the mountain of emotion the first film gave us but nevertheless let's see how a franchise that hooked in so many people so quickly could lose them almost as fast so let's take a look at oh something's on my foot motivation and emotion you too can figure out even the most basic of human emotions by reading this book need help figuring out the most basic of human emotions and read a book to understand yes this is Matrix Revolutions we start right where we left off with Tom in a coma right next to agent Smith impersonating a knocked out crew member no I still have the same expression no matter what they're told however that the Oracle has important information for them who are you and the Oracle I made a choice and that choice cost me more than I wanted it to one thing I've learned in all my years is that nothing ever works out just the way you want it to like sometimes an actress dies in between films and you have to Dumbledore the [ __ ] out of it what choice to help you to guide Neo and if you're wondering what important words she has to share with them apparently it's only two I know this because it's the exact same two [ __ ] words that everybody in this movie is brainwashed to repeat no really for all the rambling and long-winded speeches count how many times they just keep coming back to the exact same two words Choice purpose Choice purpose Choice purpose Choice purpose Choice purpose Choice purpose they even force them in the sentences no normal person would ever use them in all right let's move with a purpose that's like that seriously has anyone ever used the phrase let's move with purpose and not gotten a wedgie in high school but for some strange reason Tom is in a realm apparently in between the Machine World and reality are you from the Matrix yes wait a minute mobile I think just may be an anagram for limbo oh they're trying to tell us that this world is lit oh oh my God is that clever I mean see what you will about citizen King's marriage and their visual symbolism of growing the table further and further apart over the years not only suggesting through Visual means that they're growing further and further apart from each other this just has to move two letters around and boom it's ingenious oh my God these writers are incredible how do they come up with this have they said purpose and choice yet purpose Choice There You Go the movie felt naked for a second I don't think God the rest of the film isn't as straightforward and doesn't Ramble On oh yeah it does I just have never heard a program speak of love it is a human emotion no it is a word what matters is the connection the word implies can you tell me what you would give to hold on to that connection wow this is about as exciting as actually waiting at a real train stop you believe in karma is a word like love a way of saying what I am here to do yeah we're here for a while guys I hope you're enjoying it your programs oh yes and yet somehow like most of the machines in this movie I seem to have much more emotion than any of the human characters my wife is an interactive software programmer she is highly creative what are you doing here goodness I apologize my wife can be very direct yes please more of that you're the first I see that you are in love oh what gave it away was it how I stare into nothingness with no recognizable thought because that's kind of how I normally am oh but a character called the trained man comes to take them away leaving Tom behind you're gonna stay right here until the mayor of intense is different I don't want to hurt you now you're right I don't need this I made it Beyond Thunderdome get on the train or you stay here with him thus Tom realizes as much energy as he puts into it he ends up going nowhere you can personally insert your own obvious metaphor for the movie here but me I just want to get the [ __ ] out of this scene this leads us to one of Frenchy's clubs which is imagine a fetish club you put your other clothes in the real world right [Music] you must be ready to die [Music] hey they partake in a slow-mo gunfight because really I don't think the films have explored that Avenue enough and they break inside to see the Frenchman The Prodigal childhood we only want to talk of course you do that's somebody wants to [ __ ] do in this movie Frenchie offers to make a deal that if they hand over the eyes of the Oracle he'll give them back Tom and seems are perfectly fair and reasonable deal to me but because these films love plot threads that don't go anywhere they say [ __ ] that [ __ ] we're just gonna plant a gun at you yes that works [Music] let's not say anything and just suck face how's it a different from what we normally do so because you found the first boring Oracle talk in the boring Oracle room so not boring you another boring Oracle talk in the boring Oracle room that you will definitely find boring I think it's time for me to know a few more things so do I and I'm not gonna lie watching a scene where Tom does nothing but constantly ask questions it's like watching a conversation in a buttons and Mindy cartoon where is this going I don't know you don't know or you won't tell me no one can see beyond a choice they don't understand what choice it doesn't matter why because it wasn't time for you to know why power of the one extends Beyond this world why it reaches from here all the way back to where it came from why you are a bastard speaking of which after Tom Lee's Smith only ends up taking over more and more people and Corners the Oracle inner kitchen suppose you've kriti and cookies need love like everything everything cookies cookies need love like everything does coming out of him sounds magical buddy ends up taking over the Oracle which leads to one of the silliest and most famously goofy laughs in movie history [Laughter] I am not entirely convinced that they didn't replace him with a Hugo weaving style Muppet no really I think you think if it will in that crowd with that face go into the heart of the machine's home world to confront them and needs to take one of their ships to do it is this what the Oracle has told you told you no this is asinine if you want to kill yourself go do it but do it without wasting one of our ships he can take mine for Christ's sake Naomi I'll pilot this ship he can take mine after all he is the exact reason why we're in this god-awful predicament I think he's done more than enough to earn our phenomenally misguided trust but Tom and Trinity's ship has a stove the most menacing Hugo weaving impression known to man it might appear the way to you but Mr Anderson and I know that appearances can be deceiving that is a damn good impression but can he fit his entire fist in his mouth while he's laughing [Laughter] Tom surrenders his gun to save Trinity resulting in agent kinda Smith burning his eyes off I wish you could see yourself Marco Marco oh come on it's the law you have to say Polo but because we haven't done the blind prophet cliche yet it turns out now he can see in flamo vision so I could but I think you could have to drive it's cool I can make jokes even though I should be in blood curling pain thank God my brain is so slow I constantly forget what's actually supposed to hurt me hey speaking of things they're supposed to hurt me you guys are awfully quiet over there oh good finally things can be less suspicious around here did you make things less suspicious around here yes he is totally convinced that we haven't been affected by you everything is going according to survival best Messiah ever so I hope you like people shooting upward and shouting ah because there's exactly 20 minutes of it you get to watch yep 20 minutes of this folks in all this visual Wonder just look at all the palettes of color that they have on display like gray dark gray vomit Grace not gray stone reflecting off of dim fireplace gray and all accompanied by flashing lights so constant that even a rave in a haunted house would get bored by it but morpheus's ship comes in with for lack of a better term a freaking off switch and finally stops the fighting you did it no we did it you're a hell of a pilot no we're a hell of a pilot we really should stop this no we really should oh yeah sure but it turns out much like Tom their ability to save the day ends up instead somehow [ __ ] more people over did I miss something Commander I thought we just saved the duck that EMP napped out almost every piece of Hardware in every APU if I were the machines I would send every Sentinel I had here right now save the dot captain just handed it to him on a silver platter but you know the thought occurs to me we're not very good at what we do but hey at least we believed right no strategy no reason just all faith believing that's that's a good lesson to take out of this right good things for people to learn in the future I'll just let myself meanwhile Tom and trandy continue to fly towards Skynet to try and make a deal we're over the fields aren't we but they are eventually spotted after a pretty friggin long time however Tom is able to zap most of them with his Jesus beans but they eventually end up which means they have to go higher up [Music] color it's been so long since I've seen color oh well back to the world of smoke stained greens and urine cake Blues what a world of imagination we live in huh the ship crashes and Trinity it seems is somewhat inconvenient by the results can't go with you [Music] with you I've gone as far as again one oh no uh I don't think she'd be quite so calm or coherent with those metal cords sticking out of her body my guess is her dialogue would be a mix of gargling blood and no really you can't die you don't have the acting ability to do so [Music] wait try to think of something the Oracle said we've escaped the scenario with [ __ ] loopholes before why the hell can't we do it again [Music] I wanted to Jesus Christ lady your death scene is literally four minutes long I think [ __ ] Rasputin died faster than you there is another Anderson foreign resulted in the exact same outcome for Trinity's dead ass but hey I'm sure it was all part of the grand plan that was about as well planned out as the one in signs seriously fate doesn't think itself through I'm Mourns the loss of his partner in Bland Zion gets ready to face the machine's second wave attention Zion do not fear this is only a drill they're all going to die but before they can wipe them out Tom approaches the leader of the machines the time baby and tries to make a truce with them am I the only one who wants to hear this come out of that thing's mouth seeing how Smith has apparently infected all of the Matrix including the machines and programs Tom says he can get rid of him in exchange for leaving Zion alone why they can't just make another Matrix like they've done so many times in the past I don't know but let's just pretend this movie isn't very good at answering questions and then pretend you're not pretending the magic of tentacle hentai he's thrown back into the Matrix where Smith has indeed taken over everything the runners and welcome back we no is the monsoon of our discontent you like what I've done with the place so remember how crazy fun and over-the-top that fight was in the middle of the movies with a million Smiths all attacking at once you might be asking yourself how the hell are they gonna top that well by reducing it down to just one of course because yeah even though they had a brilliant idea by having our hero fight just one villain as well as an entire Army both at the same time and actually kind of an ingenious setup they said hey let's just throw in the same slow-mo Kung Fu you've seen a million times mixed in with some Dragon Ball Z action you've seen a million times except now it's mostly blocked by the rain so it's even harder to make out what's going on guys that's not upping the ante that's taking away from the ante why would you do that it's so bizarre why they thought this would equal a bigger climax than the last fight they had with this Miss hell it doesn't even add up in the last film he took on like a bajillion of them fighting them off like they're deflating balloons why the [ __ ] now can he just do that to one of them watch this one I'm gonna kill you oh no I'm defeated that was pretty easy why is he having such a hard time with this guy hell even the video game had a better climax than this a giant version of himself made out of the city okay it was pretty [ __ ] silly but have you killed you expect that from these films by now at least it was something bigger and different why are we supposed to be by this why indeed Mr Alger crane [Music] I just want you to finish the review what why because then maybe fans would at least check out the movie to see just how bad it is yes the more you hate it the more likely it is to gain viewership from quite explained he could still bleed and die in the other two movies as Smith starts to question what the [ __ ] he's even doing there you were laying right there it's like that I I stand here right here I'm supposed to say to something uh I think weaving just got drunk and is trying to remember what he was supposed to do in the script what what did I just say no I don't care how smashed I'm coming across nobody's gonna be in the theater to watch it anyway but Tom finally lets him win and take over his body here's it over shouldn't I know aren't you me and me you and why am I such a crying [ __ ] all of a sudden would a goofy laugh help but Tom Spirit results in metaphorical overload as the two entities balance each other out destroying one another actually in all fairness a pretty clever idea for a resolution but Jesus do we have to sit through so much of what we've already seen before could have seen just be summed up in hello it's Neo you have malware erected whoa it'll result in all my boring characteristics being permanently deleted I've selected whoa 37 ties harsh this of course results in the death of Tom in the real world [Music] while that's going on it looks like Zion is finally safe [Music] thanks random boy with no Authority who we're just gonna choose to believe for some reason so everything goes back to normal and the machines agree to free anyone who wakes up from the Matrix in the future obviously they will be freed I have your word what do you think I am human well you machines do seem to be very emotional so I think that's kind of a legit question look look just look at that did you do that for now will we ever see him again [Music] someday someday he might do a film to revive his career let's just pray that Cowboy Bebop movie is a rumor did you as programs do Mr Ultra critic and now it seems there's no purpose to your existence that may be all well and good but have you considered this hi again no blood wait a minute I know what you guys are you're you're the strangers from dark city very clever yes but why well we were so pissed off that our movie bombed earning only the slightest of a cult following we knew we had to retell our story to a more popular market so we dumbed it down for a broader demographic course a world controlled by emotionless entities a lead who adapts to his powers a dark environment ruled by human imposter secretly observing them hell it even ends with two people flying around destroying a city but it wasn't enough so we replaced character development with gunfights vague undertones with obvious symbolism and classic film Noir with sexy people in tight outfits it was a big hit but something went wrong the audience is caught on to our gimmicks and grew tired of the sequels but you Mr alja you can say how bad it is and grow the audience's Curiosity back no no you know as well as I do more attention should be brought to think that are Timeless that was just popular for the moment we've tried it before we dare not try it again nor will you Chester I told you I don't do anything Beyond Pod no no insert it into your head oh that makes much more sense you're probably wondering why I keep appearing on all your memories is because I have inserted myself into them for as you see I have been studying The Strangers for some time really he's happy but now you've also discovered how to destroy them by using their very own power known as ruining ruining the ability to ruin a perfectly good idea with unfit action and Mindless puppets that they call characters that the viewers can imagine themselves as but you can ruin two critic all you have to do is finish the review but you must act The Matrix films are silly but harmless what in the grand scheme of things there are some good ideas neat visuals and clever analogies there's much smarter ones out there but at the same time this did at least get the ball rolling for people to say hey action films can make you think and can push the envelope of what was visually possible before it action films didn't have to look like anything that special just people shooting guns jumping through explosions stuff like that but now every film has to have a visual style if it's going to be recognized at all in today's media this means so many more options for Creative imagery and inventive imagination and let's give credit where credit's due this is most likely because of the Matrix even if it's not the best it did change a whole lot and deserves to be acknowledged for that and let's be honest every film even the sequels has something good in it so on the whole while I personally don't enjoy them they did do more good than maybe I realized to begin with and none of them not even the last one are really god-awful no you must hate them you must hate them so much the people have to see them no I don't I think it's time to use some of this ruining power to get things back to Norm [Music] more of the color green no more weird ass Spanish gear and no more Stills and unemotional acting my God you will have personality [Music] much better I'm dying Nostalgia Critic we researched so many popular stories so many Timeless have passed since you pretended you saw the last Matrix movie and now the wachowskis minus one are back to give you the final part yeah definitely the final part that's the film seems to spell out Warner Brothers wanted our go at their most popular movie series most popular movie again a lot of folks didn't get into the sequels but they seem to make enough to get Warner Brothers to say to Lana Wachowski Lana Lana until she agreed to come back and brought some of the leads with her the movie bomb pretty Fierce though and got mixed reactions from critics and fans as someone who didn't get into the original film that much but did value the impact it had I have to admit I did enjoy a good chunk of this film I liked a lot of self-reflection psychological Dives and more character insight into a series that frankly had no character Insight but bluntly I was really enjoying this Matrix movie until it became a matrix movie did that make it worth the reboot all these years later though well let's dive in head first to find out this is hey critic I was wondering if the consequences of our personal actions reflect the consequences of our species as a whole no if I could have the last slim jim oh yeah fine [Applause] wait Tamara under those clothes are you wearing leather if I finish that question you're gonna sue us aren't you my lawyers on speed dial Slim Jim [Applause] this is not suspicious at all so your first thought might be this is another one of those sequels that does the exact same thing all over again not as bad as you think it is but for different reasons please show the first movie that's a test thing for agents and bugs played by Jessica henwick watches as something seemed different in the simulation we know what happens next she kicks them off that's why I said it as you know trust me the writing does get better yep that kick was a little off no doubt that'll be the worst part of the action sequences in this film they call me Cobra Bubbles I can't wonder if there's some subtext with Lana reluctantly returning to this series the same way Neo is an anagram for one Lana could be an anagram for Alan he turns out one of the agents played by Yaya Abdul Mateen somehow as a program embodying Morpheus and I'll be totally honest I got that from the Wiki page because their explanation of this is like the architect speech light do you know this is a modem simulation used to evolve programs I know what I am digital sentient just a flicker but suddenly I understand you can't see it we're all trapped inside these strange repeat okay can we get the Bruce Willis Fifth Element sum up sure I am Morpheus thank you but wait that's Morpheus yeah if you're wondering why they didn't have Lawrence Fishburne reprise his role get this in one of the Matrix games that nobody played Morpheus is killed and of course the wachowskis would be die hard about this being Canon so Fishburne wasn't even asked to return because Lord knows bringing the person back to like two people back to life just wouldn't be believable in this world is that overwritten dialogue yet you call this a choice uh honestly with somebody offered me these things I went off of binary conceptions of the world has said that there was no way I was following some symbolic reduction in my life Jesus somebody give that woman an Oscar just for trying to say that say that just saying yes and Wachowski film means reading half a thesaurus and machine gun speed now to Neo played Again by Keanu Reeves who has been given the most impressive reboot of the film he's been programmed to actually act in this having a mental breakdown again or living inside a computer-generated reality that has imprisoned me again okay so I've made a lot of jokes about Reeves as under acting in his earlier films including the Matrix but honestly I think he's gone a lot better over the years he's proven to have a really decent range and even in a role like this where he's supposed to not really care he does so in an engaging way is that what you believe Phil were you in this world he's a game designer who made the Matrix as a hit Trilogy he has a crush on a lady in a coffee shop played by Kerry and Moss he tried jumping off a building because he had a nervous breakdown and couldn't tell fantasy from reality so now he sees a therapist despite his success he can't connect well with people and feels numb being at the top getting out all his passions in his games because he's too nervous to do so in real life this is my very good friend Thomas Anderson I'm sorry about this yeah this isn't just acting this is a legitimately interesting character what I'm know about this guy um he thought there was another world but all of them thought bad uh he hated his job I think he's the one whoa I'd rather watch a dozen movies starring this guy than one with the one who's Thomas everyone calls me chip I hate my husband and I'm desperate for an affair speaking of which this is my husband Chad nice to meet you hey don't cross me bro I am literally a Chad look at this they meet up a few times in the movie and you know what they do they chat not over explain or discuss the meaning of life or something they just chat like what people do it's what's it like being a world famous game designer must be amazing sometimes it is amazing most times I don't know the chat about their insecurities their passions the lives they have versus the life they originally wanted in a series where the computers talk more like humans and the humans talk more like computers I love seeing these two actually be allowed to act another coincidence I love motorcycles my friend Chris and I actually build them I didn't know she liked motorcycles I thought she just wrote them because it's part of the mission it's 10 about her in three whole movies I'm too goddamn tired kids are exhausting you know no never had kids right I knew that I like seeing these two talk they're a cute couple when they're not just discussing protocol or sucking face even the super meta setup which granted has been done to death and other remakes does make sense here this cannot be another reboot retread regurgitated River itself yes every reboot nowadays has to act all self-aware like they're the first one to do it but seeing how the Matrix was about questioning reality already I think it kind of fits you can tell this is where Lana opens up about not knowing how to accept her creation for what it is and how other people interpret it obviously the Matrix is about trance politics crypto fascism it's a metaphor of capitalist exploitation honestly I make jokes about the fans taking the films too seriously but this movie does it for me Paradox between Free Will and Destiny we kept some kids entertained and I tell you it took over my life we need guns lots of guns also being at the top I'm sure can feel too good to be true and even like a fantasy which this clearly feeds into I kind of like the idea that Neo is trying to push away from the Messiah complex he might have made for himself and best of all the path 3 movies can technically be seen as a nervous breakdown it could just be a geek getting too deep into his own self-indulgent fantasy which yes I'm sure a lot of fans win like because that would take away from their own fantasy you get elements of your life in the narrative a married woman named Tiffany became the Trinity of a doomed romance I know people have their own take on things and that's fine but for me I love mwah deep does not bring World Peace Luke Skywalker doesn't become a perfect being even Cinderella doesn't fully achieve her happily ever after dude thee to exist no but if they're going to bring on the next logical conflict reality would give them note his developing partner played by Jonathan Groff says Warner Brothers wants another Matrix man I thought the other films hit the nail on the head Warner Brothers has decided to make a sequel to the trilogy and they made it clear they'll kill our contract if we don't cooperate don't worry after the merge with Discovery all drama will disappear as blatant as this is and I guess spells out why Wachowski number two didn't come back for this one I will give Warner Brothers credit they left that in the movie though I'd love to see how they dealt with this if it turns out that was just an oversight they informed me they're gonna do it with or without us I they couldn't do that now if you'll excuse me a cartoon duck is calling me into the lobby Neo's therapist played by Neil Patrick Harris suggests he up his pill dosage keeping him more in reality and more importantly I remember how hard it was for you to share something like this which tells me just how far we've come well it does great I will be honest all I'm thinking is how much him and Jonathan Groff must have been tap dancing show tunes whenever the cameras weren't rolling now that's a Duo I want to see Neo fight Neo gets a message though just as the building is given an emergency evacuation cellophane Mr Cellophane morphe approaches him at a kind of Morpheus way seriously his tone goes back and forth so much I have no idea what he's supposed to be like this is the moment for you to show us what is real welcome to the career learning all about you and me at last wasn't too sure about the Callback but you know just hard to resist this isn't a war it's a murder this isn't a war it's a Moira after all that imagery is showing how taking pills numbs you to reality here take this pill to see reality whatever his partner was actually a reprogrammed version of agent Smith yes that character died too but this was scheduling conflicts we get an action sequence and so far it's okay it looks matrixy enough it's smooth and cool looking but he suddenly appears in his therapist's office and thinks it's all just another mental breakdown I actually got so swept up in how well they covered their bases for either reality being real that I totally forgot they pretty much show The Matrix was real with the other characters earlier but again maybe it's because I actually care about these characters I forgot about those other scenes so quickly it's what artists do but it becomes a problem when fantasies endanger us bugs intercepts and though and take them to a theater where film strips from the game are playing nothing conference anxiety like little Nostalgia look at me I've been calm for freaking years after he takes the pill he's confronted by his therapist who tells him he broke into his home please this is not a game feel my hand this is what is real deep down I knew the movie wasn't smart enough to leave it ambiguous so you have to decide what's real but I'll be honest I was kind of questioning what was happening in this moment again both realities seem plausible they tried to escape into a train but agents locate them and oh no we really are back in 1999 they're doing a shitty few frames trick that everybody would wish would die nothing Comforts anxiety like little Nostalgia yeah but not bad nostalgia I do like the idea of how a literal point of view can help them Escape that mirror will never fit think perspective close you are bigger it gets so you mean oh I'm squashing your heads oh my God I wish I was a scene Neo escapes wakes up from the Matrix and is taken to bugs's ship so there you go that's 53 minutes of good now get ready for 104 minutes of bad hey critic I've been checking out that Nexus point comic it's actually pretty good yeah I'm sorry if things slowly been getting more green around here oh I think we're trying to be more environmentally friendly no I mean literally green oh good because I was completely making that up wait a minute why are so Sally I mean Jimmy starts working at a tech company and gets chased by the bad guys just like Neo in The Matrix does she say whoa does she have to say well I think she needs to say why all right she says well will everything be green and gray like in this room for some reason silence what no that's the best part it's like the Matrix but with a lot more color oh I guess that sounds pretty cool examined by the ship doctor what's up duck a character named bugs just asked a doctor what's up I hate how much I love that and we're teleported to the Kung Fu training scene because you remember the Kung Fu training scene I know exactly what you need me in an open robe handing you a martini man Lana has been reading the fan theories producers think fans are having right now he wakes up back in his room where bugs wants to talk with him mind if I try and open my beer bottle off you they took my life turned it into a video game and turned it into something trivial not so trivial you can't bring actors back because it's Canon yeah I'm still stand by the John Wick films are on official simulations everything we do [Music] gave us the courage to repeat the same [ __ ] over again yeah we're basically back to business as usual with everyone sucking Neo's dick praising him as the one not a fanboy out here but this is kind of a huge one for me bug is our resident neologist oh Jesus literally I like it better when he thought he had a Jesus complex remember therapist bad being the chosen one good and pills so figuring that one out I guess it's the weather Professor machines one addition I like is they apparently team up with machines in the hopes of making the world better I would have liked if maybe Neo had a Prejudice towards him but they never do take advantage of that they do take advantage of guy Pierce's makeup from Prometheus though niobe the world was different then yep that's Jaden Pickett's myth reprising her role as niobe and while it does look like a latex pancake melted on her face she actually does an okay job acting under it a few more wrinkles and a few less teeth but wise enough to know I don't know anything except what pushes your husband's buttons I think you know that pretty well now on the one I don't believe in the one in the what I never did but it's an anagram for Neo it's clever it must be true hey gardening now shit's getting exciting welcome to the Garden Neo a strawberry you remember that [ __ ] we used to eat how many adults refer to the trilogy now so it's a little confusing but I think after Neo died the machine started fighting each other another idea I think is clever and surprisingly believable but Neo thinks they're keeping trendy alive and he wants to save her niobe says no but weskowee bug says yes and sneaks him back into the Matrix to get some answers so what do you think of him let's go first because he's so much older ah when producers thought that would be the biggest problem fans had with the film they run into Smith and the one cast member I know you were waiting to see again all these years I can't believe it ah Pepe Le Pew did not take it and canceled well it's funny because I don't remember disliking this character I remember him being kind of fun but he really is the charger of this scene like he's supposed to distract us from how bad everything else is we're watching and he's about as effective we had to conversation well at least I can pinpoint the exact moment The Meta [ __ ] stopped working for me like I and I'm sure others must have pointed out the other Wachowski must have directed The Action because man the rest of the fight scenes in this are sloppy as hell maybe it's the same effects and choreography but it's shot via shaking baby cam so I can't make out of it is or not back and make it to trendy who acted this wasn't on her bookshelf but the therapist arrives and reveals he was The Mastermind that brought them back to life freezing them in cyberpunk 2077 time I know kinda ironic using the power to Define you to control you you're not even a real doctor are you Mr Hauser I was there when you died I was tentacle number three come on tell me I wasn't programmed from that first I had to convince the suits to let me rebuild the two of you why her getting there Paris does everything he can to save this rambly dialogue but at six minutes of yapping and watch him Glick like a Jaguar game it gets pretty headache inducing basically he said his attempt to bring Neo back to life failed until he decided to bring Trinity back as well so like they keep them figure out a plan introduce another character you'll forget about by the end and go over the details of the plan in the real world and the details of the plan and the Matrix world it's a small hexagonal event this vent feeds the air intake into the corpuscular modifier which oxygenates the biogel used in Neo's pod I usually love these scenes in Heist films where they go over all the cool details but at this point I'll accept daikon grab Liz go to the Winchester ice cold pint and white for all this to blow over they agree to meet the therapist at the coffee shop where nobody questions the SWAT team there guess it's just SWAT night and they give Trinity the choice to be with Neo or her family no pressure if she says no what happens to Nia at this time most important choice of Neil's life it's not his domain out of our hands forwards out of our hands this movie will be an hour long if people talked how people talked she of course chooses Neo but before the therapist can get them Smith enters the picture saying he wants revenge on Doogie as well I was free to be me I do buy that he would want to rough him up also and yeah I'll give credit this is the one scene where the tight crowded action works the idea of a whole SWAT team in a coffee shop where it's almost impossible to move it's kind of a creative chaotic and even a little funny of a place to fight stop them duet I've been following foiled by the power of you think this is over box office says yes Smith takes him out though and their Alliance ends you know the difference between us Tom anyone could have been you or has I've always been anyone they go from SWAT to sworn though as everyone in the city literally launches themselves as projectiles towards them again not shot great but it is a pretty entertaining idea [Applause] the roof and find the only way out is for them to fly well they were having I'm not doing this are you doing this she is the two I guess I'm fans freaked out about this but I don't know if each half of them is part of the puzzle maybe one of against that bullets and the other can fly how romantic I don't know these movies make up [ __ ] as they go I don't see why this is any different I just stopped caring when this actually became a matrix movie again sound dramatic when Neil Patrick Harris says that you're dramatic I like mph but I'm not gonna lie see him die multiple times as well as kind of enjoyable mph is like an NPC you don't really want to hurt him but you totally will they just keep coming back we were on our way to remake your world change a few things they figure out they have the power to change this reality and decide they're gonna do exactly that yeah you took enough from dark city why not officially take the ending too why does that sound I'll figure down the sum up you gave us something we never thought we could have another chance yes thank you Warner Brothers for forcing Lana's hand but it's I guess a good thing what am I supposed to be left with here movie I don't know I guess not enough people thought it was a good thing because like I said it didn't do very well hey critic I think I got it figured out can you join me for a sec yes wait a minute we thought the Matrix had left us but we were wrong do you mean dark city doesn't matter heck the people want to look at her and now the Matrix must consume you as well attack did she just throw herself at me yeah how did this cost more than the last time we did this toss yourselves toss yourselves like your bullet bills this is all coming from the webcomic you were pitching perhaps I'm not sure it all started when I mentioned the Matrix is an inspiration maybe we're getting so caught up in how the Matrix inspired us we're not letting you do exactly that Inspire us for me the best stuff was in the first third reflective experimental combined old elements with new elements to say something that was kind of insightful from the Creator when the film tries to recapture what made people love the original that's where it goes downhill for me had this been more like an epilogue rather than a sequel similar to what something like Steven Universe future was I think this will have gotten a lot more respect from both fans and critics because the Matrix is becoming different things to different people you even said it inspired your comic but you made it more colorful and added your own unique touch when Lana did that added her own unique touch as a different person years later chunks of it were pretty cool hell she even added a lot more color in this movie than any of the previous movies ever had are you saying that my comic may have inspired a Hollywood movie you know that makes no sense I know but maybe others did people took inspiration from The Matrix gave their own spin on it and then Lana was possibly inspired by that and put a new unique spin on it so in a way it does kind of come full circle does it work I guess not I think the studio figure people wanted to see more flying around and over explaining rather than a subdued and complex Direction but the first third is some of my favorite stuff in any of the Matrix movies so even though I can't say it all comes together a good chunk of it I still found really fascinating and I'm glad I got to see something more reflective and low-key for a certain amount of time so does this mean that we're not going to do a big flashy climax I don't think their heads can handle it man Perhaps it is time to let the Matrix become something else [Music] oh hey critic when did you become triplets I'll
