30 Year Old Food Parcel | Ashens

i've been sent a care package you know one of those boxes full of lovely different foods for me to eat and as you've probably noticed from the title up above they're not going to be particularly recent the story goes there was a shop in northern ireland they've got a lot over there and it was damaged in a terrorist explosion of which there was quite a lot in the uh 70s and 80s and indeed the 90s and that and as a result nobody went back in the shop until recently where they discovered storage boxes full of items that had been bought to sell on and yes indeed never opened and well the letter says that these items were abandoned in the 1970s yes the late 70s i would guess actually very early eighties um because there's only one date on one of the items and it uh sort of pinches in with that but anyway let's see what's on the menu shall we first up hind spaghetti hoops in tomato sauce new recipe sauce not so [ __ ] new anymore boys special price 14 pence with some sort of proto-chef excellence looking embarrassed if you don't know what spaghetti hoops are they're basically sugar and gluten and that's pretty much it i believe ingredients tomatoes spaghetti hoops made from wheat sugar flour salt food starch summoning seasoning salt summoning salt something from a video game vegetable oil acetic acid all my favorite cheese herb spices and natural flavoring i always worry when they have something as decidedly unspecific as that natural flavon could be anything could be something they found behind a cat's ear we'll never know special price 14 pence yes this was a while ago and i should mention at this point that i'm not going to eat any of these because i'm not completely [ __ ] mental however we will have a look and i shall be entranced by the smell which is something you won't have to worry about well the tins are damaged it's a little bit uh sort of corroded on the top but indeed it's still full of lovely healthy spaghetti hoops unfortunately i can't trace any sort of best before date it's just got codes on it uh back sort of going back 30 years not that many things had a best before date anyway good lord here we go i'll bet the smell is going to be super magical or worryingly they'll be exactly the same turn over that oh my goodness and we're away is that from the tin or is that just from the horrible old tin opener i found this really old monkey ones i didn't want to use up the good one and what's inside oh not actually that much different these tins they're a good invention aren't they well they're spaghetti hoops and i must say the sauce does seem to be a bit more gelatiny than one would expect yeah usually this is a very very weak source in the sense that it's sort of very liquidy and not like a horrifying gel what does it smell of um kind of as you'd expect it to smell but very slightly off you certainly wouldn't want to be eating these but hey considering the amount of time you know if there's a thermonuclear war in 30 years time we can still eat some spaghetti hoops made today possibly they've probably got different ingredients in now anyway i'm going to put this very carefully off to one side and oh dear the smell is permeating somewhat as it tends to do with these sort of tomato-based things anyway lovely oh look it's another plate because of course that wasn't tomatoey enough so it's time for some heinz tomato ketchup yes it's all very hinds related this is indeed from late 70s or early 80s um it doesn't look like this anymore and has a lot more information on the packets these days i believe ingredients tomato sugar spread vinegar salt spices generic generic again no date to worry about here's an exciting fact for you know the 57 varieties of heinz it's [ __ ] they've never had specifically 57 varieties they just decided one day that that would be a good tag line absolutely true look it up anyway guaranteed free from artificial preservatives or color or death 12 ounces yep it was back can be using imperial measurements because we were unscientific and well it looks a lot darker than one would expect tomato ketchup to look um and this stuff doesn't pick up really well on camera obviously color wise but i would say it looks far more like brown sauce also it seems to have um kind of suspended bubbles in it meaning it may have solidified over the years anyway here goes something unpleasant oh dear the cap's not on that tight that is a worry hmm oh dear it's draining off something the smell is quite unbelievable it sort of smells of tomato ketchup but far more potent than one would expect and yeah there's nothing coming out of that i don't think you'd probably have to leave it upside down for a thousand years yeah that's sort of gone oh dear yeah there's little dried nuggets of something nasty coming out there we are there's something to feast your eyes on this will really help your diet if you're on one of the minutes you'll feel too sick to eat i think oh dear that's deeply unpleasant and i'm not going to be breathing through my nose for a short period i would quite like to get some more out of this all right we'll give it one more shot but i think it is basically solid i'd have to stick something in it and then oh actually where did i put the fork i got a fork out where is it oh yes i was using it to hassle the uh spaghetti hoops earlier wasn't i ugh oh dear oh dear yeah that's not really ketchup anymore that's some unpleasant jellified nastiness i shall pop that there and they can go in the dishwasher later or maybe just be destroyed in a furnace i'm not really sure at this stage anyway that was a nice treat wasn't it boys and girls what's next on the menu how about a bit of dessert with a good old jordan's original crunchy bar with apple and bran a blend of toasted cereals nuts and seeds best before dates end of october 1984. it's that that makes me suspect these are actually from the early 80s because i don't think these things keep like five or six years do they ingredients rolled oats blah blah blah blah blah stuff um they try and tell women are healthy when they're on a diet and in fact they're not at all because it's full of bloody sugar hmm i have a suspicion this won't be that much different ah my suspicion may be proved incorrect yeah these things are generally a lighter color than this i believe and uh yeah oh dear it's like um degenerated back into its constituent parts in a sort of horrifying primordial soup of rot but other than that it's probably really nice yeah nobody's looking forward to dessert tonight let's uh just say that well i suppose after all these sugary treats it's time to clean our teeth with original flavor cherish toothpaste new paste formula not so new now lads toothpaste with mfp fluoride for fewer fillings marvelous um cherish toothpaste you'll be interested to hear hasn't been made for approximately 30 years cherish now comes in a new paste formula like a container of fluoride has been shown to toughen tv i'm going to try so what did it have before fluoride did it just have soap in it or something no idea ah the british dental association lemming the bda there's an obscure reference for you right here it is in a sort of metal tube and this really is a time capsule in itself as i say it's been about 30 years since it's been made my understanding of cherish which i had to look up because i've got no memory of it is it some sort of red gel and with sort of cinnamon flavoring to it what it is now i've got no idea yeah it's not looking very gel like and again what does it smell of it smells minty and toothpastey actually all right i'm going to try a little bit and i do mean a little bit yeah it has a kind of i wouldn't say mint actually it's all got a hint of i don't know if i would say cinnamon a kind of jelly toothpaste thing i don't know it's not probably not really a very good idea to actually try and work out what the taste is when it's 30 is at a frickin date oh well i'll put that somewhere and give it to somebody one day uh when they're in a hotel and they've forgotten the toothpaste and it'll kill him hilarity will ensue i'm going to keep this box i think as a reminder i don't know was a reminder of because i'm too young to remember it but that's not the point last thing on the list at this stage we've probably got a headache so let's have some lem sip soothing hot lemon remedy complete cold treatment fast yes it's out of date medication 30 years out of dates that's the best type of medication not actually true lem sip is the complete way to relieve your cold and flu symptoms fast and make you feel more comfortable it has three approved cold relief actions antiparetic analgesic to lower temperature relieve headache and soothe body aches and pains decongestant to clear a stuffy nose and expectorants to ease qatar and so reduce coughing lemsic contains real whole lemon not just an extract yep pips and everything so it's pleasant to take for colds and flu day or night taken piping hot especially at bedtime lemsip's warmth soon makes you feel more comfortable or at least it would if it hadn't degenerated so horribly over the years i imagine oh yeah that's not looking too healthy the other ones are i mean that could almost be new so i don't think it comes in a plain white sachets anymore it's all got cool colors and logos go on then tear here i presume this will just be yeah same as it ever was how many of this stuff ever really goes out of date oh god oh blimey i would say it does go out of date by the smell which just smells totally of mold and rot and is probably not something you would add to hot water in order to make yourself feel better about anything also the cherished toothpaste i'm deeply regretting tasting now it's kind of turned into some sort of bizarre angel delight blob there i don't know if you can see um that's monstrously unpleasant actually that can go back there and we'll never speak of it again well there we go that's probably the oldest food i will ever get sent i have a feeling i've just set myself up for something really horrific there well the smell in this room has now reached epic levels of uh horribleness with a bizarre mix of rot and tomato and toothpaste and goodness knows what else but what has really got me is what has the toothpaste turned into over the years that's supposed to be like a translucent red gel but that's just i don't know some sort of protoplasm or something lovely anyway bon appetit

I lost it when he talked about a knock off of a troll head doll in one of his videos
