hey everyone this is gonna be another video on opening decades-old canned foods all the cans you see here are from the 1960s except the bananas they might be from the late 50s gonna start off with this can of bananas this one's in pretty rough shape but I'm going to show it anyways the other can of bananas is exactly the same but the graphics are much better on the other can we show that one banana flakes pure tree-ripened hydrated bananas dehydrated bananas made in Brazil for babies between one and three months so this is a kind of baby food this containers in great condition super shiny neck's container here is black eye peas packed from fresh green copyright 1963 so this means they could be as old as 1963 or a few years newer got a lot of rust on the container but it is not punctured if you can see there's a slight bulge so that means the product is probably rotten something caused it to bulge we'll see you later the next thing is Martindale brand small hole white potatoes one pound four servings kans in pretty good condition the bottom is super shiny the top that's just surface rust nothing serious no bulging to the can at all and the last container his Campbell's condensed onion soup made with beef stock ten and a half ounces I went looking for this can in the store and I don't think they make it anymore because I wanted to compare the ingredients they do make onion soup but not the exact same kind this can here is completely sealed although it does have a lot of rust it's got a little bit of a bulge to it but we're gonna go ahead and start opening these things up okay first thing I'm gonna open up is the older rustier banana flakes you're supposed to open it from the top but I'm gonna do it from the bottom because I want to keep it as a collector's item so it looks like it was never opened and also the bottom part is easy for a can opener to grip onto what happened oh look at that doesn't even want to come off it's like so sticky in there the cover doesn't want to come off I got to find something to pry that off with oh well see that try to pry that off that's quite disgusting look at that does that look like banana to you it looks like some chocolate stuff what does that smell like all that is not a good smell it smells like raisins but also super musty - let's dump that out into this pan yeah that is so bad looks nothing like banana I don't know if it's supposed to be brown or not certainly does not smell like banana and why is there a piece of cardboard in the middle of it why is this cardboard here in the middle of this thing oh it looks like those used to be instructions yeah so this was definitely not supposed to be like this because it's so hard to get the instructions out of there without ripping it but again this was the really bad can of the two I'm gonna open up the newer can may be the one without the rust will have a better situation inside let's go ahead and see does that one there was not good [Music] so far better still looks pretty bad right for banana let's go ahead and try to get that out of there doesn't want to come out use a knife to get it out of there nope might have to open the top wow it does not want to come out it's being so difficult I guess I'm gonna have to slowly pick it out of there so that means this paper will be wrecked slowly just gonna go ahead and dig it out of there [Music] I don't think there's gonna be a paper in this one I don't haven't hit yet don't know what to think about five minutes later progress the paper is in there see it's at the bottom completely intact this time that's kind of cool look inside of there you see how the bottom is raised it's got this big hump what is this what's inside of this hollow thing cuz I don't see it on that side and it stabbed into it you see I just stabbed into the top of it but not this part there's like an inner compartment there no idea what that's for see that goes up pretty good amount let's get this paper opened and take a look at what this says it's gonna make sure this focus is in it in case anyone wants to stop and read this okay moving on up next I'm gonna I'm gonna open up the potatoes now see what's inside this old container of potatoes small hits [Music] that's what potatoes from the 1960s look like you see they're starting to fall apart because they've been in the water almost like 55 years or so they've been in that water let's dump this out into the tray amazingly there's still kinda intact all right and they're not as soft as you think they are they kept their firmness all these years what is a smell like in there it smells completely normal next is the onion soup I'm gonna see what's going on in that container thinking there's gonna be a hiss on here self yep that big hasn't wanna come off hmm what is that snow uh that is most certainly bad I can't even smell the food I'm smelling more rust if you know what rough smells like see if we got anything inside of it you can definitely make out the onions right I don't see much rust on the inside though but it does not smell good not at all I'm wearing a mask now if you can hear that on my voice because these are super bulged here's the last container there's gonna be a giant hiss kind of scared of this one this can is so messed up I don't think my can opener is gonna open it oh man there we go the cane is so rusty it's having problems even opening it [Applause] so this is supposed to be black-eyed peas so we're gonna do that can opener I gotta take a look at that thing but so we got inside look inside the can you don't see ribs like that anymore cans have these days have ribs but this you see there's only six of them and they're super deep in sturdy sea on the bottom you can't see but now that the cans open you can kind of make out some stamps down on the bottom even though it's backwards go ahead and take I'm gonna take a picture of that myself so I can look at that in a mirror later try to make out what that says now all these containers here there's collectible I'm gonna clean them all out and keep them as decorations I just gotta get rid of all this filth well thanks for watching I hope this video was interesting I had to add the study into my video to show you this this is why a lot of those cans smell like rust when I opened them as soon as they dried after I cleaned them the whole inside started corroding that proves they were definitely bad and that's why they smelled like rust when I opened them look at this one all that corrosion that formed on the inside when it dried the Campbell's soup all that corrosion in there started forming even the one that smelled good to me the potatoes you see that there's spots are rust in there and that banana one that's in great condition I don't see any rust on that but those other ones that is why the whole room smell like crap
