you can draw this in procreate you can draw this cute winter scene in procreate i have developed my you can draw this videos especially for people without any drawing experience or experience with procreate so even if you are an absolute beginner you can create this all you have to do is follow my steps i will guide you through everything and for this tutorial we will just be using free brushes we'll actually just be using two brushes in this tutorial and you can download them for free through freefromflow.com you can also find the link in the description if you go there all you need to do is follow the instructions and you will get the brushes plus an ebook color palettes and a fun prompt list all for free yes it's really free but if you want more or if you want more in-depth tutorials then you can check out my patreon page where i share a lot of video tutorials ranging from beginner level to more advanced levels oh and once you have reached the end of this video and once you're finished following this tutorial then it would be great if you share your work on instagram and tag me in the image not just in the description also be sure your account isn't set to private so that way i will be able to find your work and perhaps we'll see it in the next you can draw this video are you ready to get started let's do this first of all our canvas it's 2 300 pixels by 3000 pixels and the color profile is set to srgb if you want to change your color profile you have to be sure to do that when you are creating a new custom canvas you can change the color profile once you already have your canvas speaking of colors i have created a color palette for you which you can download for free through the link in the description in case you want to use the exact same colors as i'm using during this video first color we'll be using is this first color here at the top it's slightly bluish greenish and we will just drop it onto our canvas to fill it entirely and now we are going to make a new layer on top so we'll go to these two little squares to our layer menu and click the plus for a new layer and we will go to the artful flow treasure chest brush pack and we will be using the chalk pencil brush and for the color let's pick the second color it's slightly lighter than the background color the opacity of this brush is set to a hundred percent and the size is at invisible level let me try again it's at 85 percent and now let's make a base of snow we'll start about here at like two-thirds two-thirds now one-third of the canvas and let's just make a base of snow and i'm just making horizontal strokes and if i wasn't bound to this camera to the setup i would actually turn my ipad that would be way more comfortable but i'll just have to stick with this just make some snow with these horizontal strokes which feel very uncomfortable in this position actually and you can vary the sides a little bit so a few parts will stick out a bit and other parts won't just keep that top part relatively flat and vary these sides and the front giving it a playful look next we will add our cute little house our cute red house we will create a new layer for that so let's click the layer menu again and click the plus for a new layer to make a perfectly symmetrical house i would like to use the symmetry tool we'll go to the wrench in the menu then to canvas and then turn on drawing guide and then click edit drawing guide and here at the bottom you will see the option symmetry so let's click that to turn on symmetry for our canvas and if you go to the layer menu you can see that this layer is assisted that means that symmetry is turned on for our layer 3. so whatever we paint on the left side of our canvas will also show up on the other side and that's what we want now let's pick a color let's go for this bright red that's the second color here at the bottom and we'll create a triangular shape let's start about well about halfway of our snow if you just look at the left side about here a little bit below the snow and let's just create a line going up and if you hold it in place it'll snap to a perfectly straight line and let's make it touch about here and here at the sides we'll go down [Music] just a little bit and then you can make a horizontal line to the other side and hold your pen in place tap one finger on your screen to make a perfectly horizontal line now i don't really care about the little imperfections on the sides because i like that textured look and i'll actually color the house in by hand because this chalk pencil brush has a nice chalky texture and that'll give a nice chalky feel to our house making it look more like a real illustration with some nice textures next we'll make a new layer on top so we'll go to the layer menu those two little squares and click the plus and i want this layer to have the symmetry tool active as well so you can click the layer and then turn on drawing assist this means that symmetry is turned on for layer 4 now as well i want to make the brush a little bit smaller let's go for 40 percent and i want to make a line for the roof and we'll start about here a little bit outside of our well our current like roof and we'll make a line to the top hold your pen in place until you have a line that's on top of our house but we still have some space underneath next we'll create a layer between these two layers so between that house shape and between well and that roof shape so first click layer three and now click the plus to create a new layer in between those and for our brush we will go to the round chalk it's a new brush and a treasure chest for the color we will use this white color white almost white and we'll turn up the size of our brush to 50 percent and the opacity is at a hundred percent and just one more thing i do want symmetry to be turned on for this layer as well so click layer five and turn on where is it drawing assist and now let's make some circles going up along the roof we'll start here making a circle and then place another one right next to it making a line of these circles covering that house part a bit it's like roof decoration [Music] then here on top you can just cover it so we have a nicely decorated roof we don't just want decorations we also want some snow on our roof so let's add that to the top let's first make the brush a bit smaller let's go for 25 percent and let's add some snow on top of our roof let's go all the way to the top and i don't want the snow to be too symmetrical so we can go to the layer menu click the layer and turn off drawing assist now we can add some slight variation add some thickness on this side for instance make it a little bit wobbly [Music] so that it doesn't look perfectly symmetrical and just be sure that you close these little gaps got some slight gaps here now i'd like to add a slight little shadow to that decoration we'll add another color we'll go for this slightly more bluish color let's make the brush a bit smaller again ten percent and let's go over this decoration part hold your pen in place to make it snap to a perfectly straight line and just add a little bit of shadow i want to make a bit thicker here that breaks the shape a little bit now let's start adding some windows and a door to our house i want to turn off the symmetry tool let's go to the wrench and turn off the drawing guide do be aware that on these layers layer 3 and 4 they are still assisted so symmetry is still turned on there but we are not going to work on those layers so that's fine at least we won't be seeing the vertical line anymore let's create a layer on top of layer three our base color for our house let's click the plus and let's pick another color we'll pick this dark color it's almost black and let's create a circular window here at the top draw a circle hold your pen in place tap one finger on your screen to make it snap to a perfect circle and go to edit shape to be able to move it around i think this is a nice placement for our window you can just drag in the color into your shape you might have to adjust the color drop threshold by sliding to the left or right and to be sure that you don't have a little like gap around the edge it looks a bit like a birdhouse right now let's add some white let's pick that white color again and let's make our brush slightly smaller i'll go to six percent and let's create a line around our window hold your pen in place again tap one finger on your screen for a perfect circle and then go to edit shape to make sure that it's nicely centered and then click the brush to get out of that menu and i will make a cross shape let's start here at the top go down and hold your finger on your screen to make a perfectly vertical line you can do the same horizontally hold your pen in place tap one finger on the screen to make it snap let's make it a little bit more opaque here and now we have a nice looking window let's use the auto shape tool again like the quick shape so let's draw a rectangle if you hold your finger on the screen it'll turn into a square and you can even use edit shape to move corners around until you have a shape that you like i'm gonna make it a bit longer and then drag in the color to fill it and like i said you might need to adjust the color drop threshold so that it doesn't spill out of your shape or so you don't have a little edge i do have a little edge which you can just go over with your brush to clean it up we are going to add some white anyway i think our window is a little bit too broad so i'll go to the move tool that arrow then click free form and i'll make it a little bit smaller i think this is looking good and then you can just click the arrow again now we'll switch back to the white or almost white and let's go around our window i'll go line by line hold your pen in place tap one finger on the screen for a perfectly straight line and let's make that bottom part a little bit thicker make multiple lines and then let's make a square here as well we'll start here at the middle hold your pen in place tap one finger on the screen do the same horizontally now you could do all these steps again on the right side or you can just swipe down with three fingers and hit duplicate and now if you go to snapping and turn on magnetics you can make sure that it's moving in a perfectly horizontal line to the other side then click the arrow again and now we have two perfect windows i do feel like there's little room left for our door so let's make these windows just a little bit smaller let's select both of the windows by swiping to the right on the other window layer and then we'll go to the arrow make sure that it's set to uniform and let's turn off magnetics again i'll make them a little bit smaller and move them up now click the arrow and i will have to move this window on the right so that's this window the inserted image layer go to the arrow again then make sure that you do have magnetics turned on and let's move it to the right slightly and then click the arrow and next let's create a door let's create a new layer for that on top of these windows and we'll stick with the light color and with the round chalk we'll just make a rectangular shape like this [Music] just go to edit shape and move these lines around and then again drop in the color and you might have to adjust the color drop threshold again now i want to add a little window to our door and i'll be using that darker color for that that very dark almost black red and now let's make a little rectangle here for a window hold your pen in place and then just use edit shaper at the top to be able to adjust that that shape a little bit and then drop in the color to fill it and if you didn't do it very tidy like i did you can just switch to white and clean it up a little bit next i would like to add a little bit of texture to our house to that red base i want to add planks let's go to the layer layer 3 and let's set it to alpha log that way if we draw on this we won't be able to go outside of the shape and i don't want symmetry to be turned on but i want to be able to make straight lines only so we'll go to the wrench then we'll turn on drawing guide again and go to edit drawing guide and this time i will set it to 2d grid now with a 2d grid an assisted drawing turned on you can only make vertical and horizontal lines and that's perfect i don't want to be able to see that grid though it's it's not very useful for us right now we don't need to see it so let's turn down the opacity so that it's invisible and then click done now let's pick another color let's pick this darker red and let's make our brush just slightly smaller let's go to four percent and now let's start making horizontal lines and just try to keep the distance between the lines a little bit the same [Music] and go all the way down until you have this nice board pattern on your house next i would also like to add a little bit of shadow to our house to give it a little bit more depth even though we're not making something super realistic here of course it's not even remotely realistic but it'll add interest to our house let's make it on a new layer just to be sure we can click the plus for a new layer and to make sure that the color only ends up on that house shape we can use clipping mask now this layer is clipped to that shape so the paint won't show up outside of that shape that's super handy let's make our brush a little bit bigger first perhaps 18 let's check let's go over this edge first and add a little bit of shadow under that decoration edge and also a little bit of shadow on this side and i want some more shadow on this side because i am imagining the light is coming from this side so we'll have a bigger shadow here let's make the brush bigger let's go for 40 and now let's go over this side and make a shadow that's slightly bigger than the one on the left and i'm using light pressure so that it's not getting too dark like this we don't just want a house in our scene we also want some trees so let's start creating those now we'll create those on a layer below our house layer so let's go to the snow layer first that's layer 2 and then click the plus for a new layer for our color we will use this light green color well it's not really light green but it's lighter than the green next to it and first we will create a basic shape let's make the brush a little bit smaller 25 and we are going to make a rounded triangular shape and it's a little bit behind the house the house is covering the tree a little bit and we are going to color it in by hand because that gives that nice chalky texture let's go down a little bit more until you have a shape that looks similar to this i'll create another one on this side i'll make it a little bit thinner give it a nice interesting shape so it's a rounded triangular shape pretty basic i think you can do it so in this painting in this illustration we're using nice rounded triangular shapes mostly now let's add the tree trunks we'll do that on a layer below this tree layer so let's click the snow layer again first then click the plus and then pick the second color here in the color palette and let's give these trees some trunks one for this tree and one for this tree it's just like a rounded rectangular shape you can actually make the brush a little bit smaller let's say 10 percent to make it look a little bit more clean now that we have the trunk i feel like i want to make this tree a little bit longer or well i want the green to go lower so let's go back to layer 11 and get that green again let's go down a little bit here [Music] i want to cover that trunk a bit more [Music] perhaps for this one as well next we are going to add some snow to our trees let's first make a new layer for that so let's click the plus and make a new layer that's on top of our trees and for the color let's pick this nice light blue we are still using the round chalk and the size is set to 20 and now let's cover these trees with snow go outside of the shape of the tree because the snow it has volume it's a thick layer of snow so it'll be a bigger bigger than a tree so make it go outside of that shape and then just fill it in by hand let's add a thick layer of snow here as well fill it in by hand give it some nice volume now let's cover this one as well again go outside of that shape and give it some nice wobbly lines at the bottom a bit like melting ice cream fill it in by hand adding that nice texture and let's add a little oval here for some more snow all right now let's light this up a little bit let's go to the layer menu and set this layer to alpha log because that way we won't be able to paint outside of the snow and i'll just keep repeating this even if you have heard it a hundred times because every time i repeat it it'll stick a little bit more into your brain and you won't forget it let's pick a lighter blue right next to the one that we just used and let's make our brush a little bit bigger let's go for 40 and let's lighten up the right sides of the snow i'm using a little pressure so that it's not super opaque and i'll just go over these right sides and on this side as well [Music] and also on this little oval and i will switch to the lightest well almost white and we'll go over again on the right side adding some bright light to our snow on this tree as well and all that little oval i also want to shade the trees a little bit so let's go to the green of the trees and add will set that layer to alpha lock as well and for this layer we'll be using that darker green to add a little bit of shadow to that tree and we'll go just below that snow so that that snow is making a drop shadow on our tree and let's also darken up that left side of the tree a little bit like that and here we'll go underneath that snow as well and a little oval and the left side of the tree now let's do the same for the tree trunk that's layer 12 here click it and set it to alpha lock and let's pick that darker brown we'll make a little drop shadow from that green of the tree and darken up the left side a bit and for this one as well we're almost there i just want to add a little bit more to our snow so let's go to the snow layer that's layer two first let's add some shadow first we'll pick this blue color for that and let's go back to the chalk pencil we use that for our snow we'll be using it again and let's again in a very uncomfortable position for me anyway let's go over these areas and add some shadow and i want to make the brush bigger it's pretty small right now let's go for eighty percent and i'll add a shadow on this side because that tree is casting a shadow and that house as well [Music] and let's add some shadow here because this tree is casting a shadow as well [Music] and let's go even darker let's pick this dark blue for the areas that are closest to our shapes like very close to this tree let's make the shadow a bit darker there and very close to our house and very close to this tree just make sure that you keep making horizontal lines and finally let's also add some little light touches to our snow so we'll pick the lightest color here and let's just add a few touches of lighter snow with these horizontal lines and finally let it snow let's grab the round chalk which is perfect for little snowflakes we'll stick with the light color with almost white and now let's drop in some snowflakes these are pretty big so just make a few of these and then make the brush a bit smaller let's go for 17 percent and just make snowflakes in various sizes spicing up our little wintery scene [Music] and if you use little pressure you can make them a bit more transparent and continue adding these snowflakes till you feel like you have a nice balanced snowy scene and that's it you have created a nice wintery scene i hope you have enjoyed using the drawing guides and these chalky brushes to create this illustration if you have followed this tutorial all the way till the end then don't forget to share your results
