YMS Commentary: Daredevil (Director's Cut)

hey guys and welcome to YMS commentary track number four it has not actually started yet this is just a little intro to help you get set up basically this video is just our commentary and you are responsible for finding your own copy of the film this time we decided to go with daredevil the Ben Affleck one from 2003 you can either play the film along with this YouTube video or use the audio downloads found in the description just like all of my other content this is completely free and I appreciate all of you helping out on patreon making this possible the release we recorded over is the North American director's cut blu-ray running at 24 frames per second so make sure you don't watch over the theatrical cut just in case you are experiencing any sync issues I'll be showing small clips same reason I won't watch American History X oh yeah I haven't watched 1 through 9 yet so we're talking at the same time not know we could be but I am Adam I'm from the channel that you're watching al yeah these are these guys we decided you know filmmaking is in an art form and I guess therefore or areas on film should also be an art form so we're gonna do something a little experimental here we're gonna we're gonna do the first-ever multi-voice simultaneous commentary for at least 30 seconds and go well how is that I think that went well brings the new meaning to simulcast someone's going to have a really great afternoon right separating those tracks Michael Clarke Duncan you're gonna have to listen to see it gives repeated viewings that you know that rewatch ability more from repeated view it you're gonna have to watch this three times just created the Synecdoche New York of commentaries you're welcome Internet yeah so and I think it's just the Schenectady New York commentary just a shitty town in New York this movie takes place right mmm so this is the first the first film that we're talking over that scoot has not seen before I'm a virgin and the direct I've seen I've seen this movie a few times but I'm a virgin none of us have seen this cut of the movie so a lot of us are watching this director's cut from yeah yes I don't think I've seen the direct I don't know what I watch but I've definitely watched it on video with my parents a read that look a super real rat oh if they get the the CG team from Catwoman yes is this rather someone's mouth and make rat man gaël garcía bernal also invited to see this he was begging us oh yeah I'd it's been a while I've somebody painting pretty hard nobody said that the director's cut fixes it but I can already tell really I don't remember this [ __ ] this weird [ __ ] yeah this might be a new seeing oh yeah Wow oh yeah I remember this the movie starts to the like yeah okay I get it you know what's in you know how useless that is blind people need to be able to feel Braille so the fact that we can see it on a flat screen is useless to anyone who can't see it's it's cool it's like yo that's a low oh she's bleeding look so she is the business for like sighted people who are stealing valour from blind people basically yeah stole ashore guys Dave Jordan two first names don't trust God why do I don't call a fail for a guy like this he's a goof in this movie and can't wait Scott you're so ready for con Farrell's best performance and Michael Clarke Duncan's mmm I thought it was really funny after you asked us to do this commentary for so long to just do it with Adam and tell you about later I and you would find out when it got posted online oh my god I would have killed you Oh with like left my work and drove biohazard sign I'm wondering this or shadowing maybe biohazards gonna play I thought this was Factory so he's dead right what kind of show the kids definitely dead or he has aids aids radiation poisoning while on Hodgkin's lymphoma I guess technically there's electricity lymphoma hepps a through K oh my god loud concussion that was a short movie whoops yeah he's actually hearing someone dropping a deuce from the from the toilet Oh get up a lot of times or was that junk really that's what he's hearing he's hearing like an IV drip there would be louder noises there would be way louder yeah it's lighting up the whole room but it's like it would hear footlong decibel you know that wouldn't be what wakes you up there would be somebody walking like okay so now he here's now here's now the the sound of the dripping IV was louder than the heart rate it's also a really weird sound so you guys are telling me that song holy [ __ ] triple six siege ein just movie this is it this is year of the snitch oh my god why is there a truck on ground level at this hospital is this hospital advice your truck in the next room at this awesome they actually just bill the set of the hospital around the construction around the spark factory oh it's just a moveable hospital a real mash a real real army surgical hospital the guy with a jackhammer where's they where's Jamie Farr where's Alan Alda where's a third person that was in mash nice Flynn Scott I think these are ghosts and he's just seeing ghosts Oh is he dead the whole time as I say this is Jacob's Ladder situation no he sees dead people and Colin Farrell's dead the whole time spoilers thanks Adam it's also the plot for killing up a sacred deer but what's the plumbing in the name of by Rage Against the Machine I was a good movie [ __ ] you I won't do what you tell me his his face is a little red for having you know exhausted or damaged I don't didn't really say what it was when was in I face gets biohazard damage I get a little rosacea myself you know like oh there's another cross in this shot what's the do is I'm just gonna take a shot every time there's a crowd I know is there double like Loki Jesus what's the deal I think they're trying to imply you know a lot of movies try to force in these religious kind of subtext or parallels you know they're like the matrix did it you know yeah more so nailed it especially yes second and third movies literally nailed it to the cross Oh what I'm confused about is what kind of biohazard would it be because like if it's I don't know some sort of acid that burns through his eyelids then you'd assume his face would be [ __ ] up yeah but otherwise I mean because your eyelids are like the fastest muscle in your body no it's mainly as soon as you see something like you know a liquid coming towards you you can close it in a [ __ ] integer you know no it's it's I would only reactive go straight specific chemical I should Apollo Creed I hope they end in a oil painting freeze-frame this a voiceover yeah it's so obnoxious he's actually so much too sometimes CG they computer cool sunglasses kid couldn't hit it I guess like I would wear those sunglasses now and I'm not a kid my sense of sound gave off a kind of radar sense okay guys so great one but you guys are both daredevil experts so I got a few questions so my understanding is he has some sort of supersonic hearing now you know like a bat and it's Ben Affleck hahaha so you you do the math maths quick maths okay is this Batman you do weird we XYZ's is Batman its answer the question don't avoid the question who's gonna dodge that oh okay I'm sorry getting a better sense of touch doesn't affect your muscle how does it make you a gymnast he's an acrobat now like you might come if somebody pokes you I guess but look at that well yeah I have that problem I'm not doing sweep kick flips and slides without a skateboard this doesn't make sense go get things that trash wasn't filled with glass trashy it through the sonar oh [ __ ] mr. t killed Apollo Creed [ __ ] you what even have a stick Stanley Stanley he's never in movies he looks the same age oh we're just gonna pick on a blind kid cuz we're that hilarious man AJ you're a piece of [ __ ] I guess his eyes are kind of scarred up you're blind let's beat you up man this is not no way the kid from Modern Family only a little blacker dare you blind boy blind twelve-year-old to fight me game here age oh I'm God man it made him a gymnast that made him French he's gonna spank him well turns out AJ's into baby come look at this riveting this is hilarious this is actually the best choreography in the whole music hey leave it or not the choreography doesn't get any better than this what he's pathetic there's like a standing backflip backflip I kick that like so powerful that he made the other guy backflip and he never lost any momentum in his rotation like he did yeah he's lined the entire backflip after kicking him the [ __ ] jaw those last two Canada's hate crimes and he's the disability minority is Hector from Breaking Bad oh why is he not in a wheelchair or ringing a bell why am I doing this offensive exit who is to say he's an American actor can we just talk about Breaking Bad inside of this movie it's way better it's on its own I thought he just asked him to throw a fight he was like you're really winning those fights you're 42 years old I was gonna say he does look kinda old for a professional boxer at this point is he a furry yeah that's his that's his key goo Jack where's the tail you cheap ass I'd like to Jack the devil hmm what are you doing he's like what are those like autistic army guys who keeps assembling and disassembling their gun only it's just a cane I feel bad for this kid why cuz his dad's a [ __ ] loser yeah that too I understand that I don't know her blind then why even wear clothes anymore if he's okay so if he's 40 hold on no let's let's talk about what Adam said for like half an hour why he's still living in society not the one seeing it if you're blind why wear it close anymore Adam Johnston 2018 cut and print and seen now there's more movie there's like two hours yeah it's actually insane how long this cut is that's what she said yep got it perfect first try he can he can tell when his dad is losing the fight yeah yeah he's blind does his dad's thud on the ground make a different sound than uh Paul he's got insane echolocation you could see like ivory cheering you know the the cheering crowd you know especially yeah through a cheering crowd it wasn't a bra rias crowd it's not Apollo Creed anymore it's it's Ivan Drago now it's Ivan Dre we're on rocky for wood echolocation work better with more sound in the room I don't know no work but that question is about to become very relevant in a few short scenes okay is echolocation where you're really good at finding copies of Ecco the Dolphin for Sega Genesis yes damn it yeah I think you won are you my dad I've actually I'm very good at this I've just been kind of faking it I hope you're my dad you're hugging me a lot for someone who's not my dad smells like that the same places [Music] [Applause] as his dead stopped mugging people or what yeah he'd like I think so I mean it's his sign no he's about to get a boxing little mugging we're about to see Michael Clarke Duncan's fist that's all we're gonna see of him the whole movie pretty much I miss Michael Clarke Duncan me too he was like use my favorite magic [ __ ] my god hey sorry it's acting this whole movies all the delivery was outstanding it just occurred to me the first like 45 minutes or however long we've been watching this have all been a flashback yeah and like voiceover narration I think it's bad 15 that that can't possibly end true this is like a pages are falling off the calendar this is the Synecdoche New York if this is the longest move I've ever seen it takes place in the same place this is already the longest movie I've ever seen again you watched norte the end of history with me and i did watch norte the end of history the history did in fact end roughly halfway through that movie well shout at him and then make a little fart noises and then you'll be able to his magic ears not magic yelling you would think he'd be able to just shout and though he would die theoretically I mean that's not what happens in the movie Adam I've got bad news for you hmm I can't tell if the Rose is bleeding or he was gonna say rose there's a lot of blood coming out for not pressing any of the thorns on the rose thorn II could be could just be rose juice yeah nobody cared about a washed-up [ __ ] dead disappeared he was a ghost the whole - oh man he was the ghost calling this plot pretty yes say don't you dare leave the flashback I want all flashback no adults I better not see adult play a flick right now yeah also reminiscent of Catwoman here this is yeah it really hits all the same beats chant woman 20th Century Fox ooh good question I think it was I have not been keeping up ma'am a territorial choice that was a long time is he gonna have an immaculate birth I think he just did oh my god when we was he magnifies more imagery is this how Jesus happened sleeps in a coffin Andy's a vampire man there's a lot of levels to this movie vampires ready Jesus boxing duncan oh man there's only like a couple scenes that i remember from this film i can think of like three shots that i remember from when i watch this when i was younger two of them are hilarious and I can't wait the rest of the movie did not stick with me just the cheeseball [ __ ] Ben is gonna be more great shots like that last one week and that's like before he had that sweet-ass back tattoo no this is good music oh it just occurred to me this is made in 2003 my height of awesome music I think over 2 songs we had so far I think we had Hoobastank oh man every song is gonna be by three days grace of songs I have I have to admit some I don't know if you know this Scott there are two Evanescence songs in this movie what this is the movie that made up in essence famous I had no idea see wake me up inside in this movie yes oh yes movie just went from good that's right unless they changed lately shaded in this cut my take Evanescence out of the director's cut why did you even do a director's cut his um his apartment Baro Favreau yeah his apartment and the music he played in his apartment reminded me of Indigo Prophecy it was this is great also Braille in the background because director is so smart hey character actor who always plays a bad guy is the hashtag so I'd beat the [ __ ] out of her can you imagine everybody lying this blatant leave out a rape case I can hear his guilt yeah only work if somebody feels guilty about what they did anyway look at that you know lucky you could be wrongfully convicted him because he feels nervous about the question you [ __ ] this happens more than once I do like [Laughter] interesting thing to say in your own rape trial the witness she enjoyed every minute that's a boss move yeah I raped her and she did not rape nut colony Club doesn't fit must acquit yeah yeah Harvey Wiseman brunettes Roy your abilities a gentleman a mazing he has no power convicting people because of his supersonic ears but he can [ __ ] them up later I do like the attention to detail that he does not know how to comb his own hair otherwise he looks like a [ __ ] model somehow yeah oh no he's jeet up from the feet up but it ends just just above the sunglasses it's a mess and I don't know an even cooler zoom than theatrical couple is evening oh is this when he becomes Batman yeah this is literally just Batman's like Tim Burton's Batman Joel Schumacher's I must say ok this is all necessary just warming up marita in there you don't impressing you don't want to fight crime cold do you want to get loose that'd be funny if he was doing it in front of a mirror ok I know it's spider-man he's blind and he that's that's the only thing he has super hearing what is this this is the part ya hearing makes him snowy no he just falls like a hundred feet cool and he doesn't he doesn't even flinch you forgot where they explained that he has super feeling also which means that he's just better at gymnastics like like yeah this has a heightened sense of touch Kayal we're gonna jump like a million heightened sense of irony oh my god are you ready for his he's got great disses in this movie are you ready full gainer I'd be sure but a flick ad libbed every like dissing come back for his character in this movie how can you tell those buildings are where they are cuz he's Batman he's not making noise up there I can't wait to rape again tonight thanks wearing a cross crucifix as well oh he's Jesus wait did Jesus guys did Jesus rape I think I gotta read the Bible it's full of rice spicy especially that the little parts lots of rape and pillaging in what do you want where's Gordon Ramsay there's some really annoying sound is this yeah oh yeah no the audio mixing I think this goes this one most of the technical Oscars in 2004 did it yeah are you making [ __ ] up yes cuz like I wouldn't even be surprised you know it's true it is a regular Dunkirk that's gonna that's gonna a lot of they gave a lot of techies to [ __ ] movies sometimes blam-blam-blam- so you can't hear anything right also bullets travel man at the speed of sound I'm actually really disappointed in this design for this film because it's so look at this [ __ ] looks like it's built into the movie you know like it's absolutely necessary for the style and shots that they're trying to pull off but it's all done so horribly and I don't understand how that could happen but they that big of a budget like such shitty sound is maybe you can take back everything you just said cuz he just surfed a man down the stairs oh whoa grappled off the pen that fan just supported his entire weight please real light on his feet yeah got that magic and it's producing eyes wait a line that fan is producing sound waves apparently yeah that are it's called physics this is just upsetting I would like more define work okay why did it just fireplaces also on top of being pool spread okay I'm gonna jump into it and God is just playing it off is not very stupid preacher he's not blind quesadilla it's just like Julia Louie Dreyfus in Arrested Development pretending to be woman so the case was the question Adam how many people did you just kill that weren't rapists Oh most I know but everyone knows the the penalty for rape is death that's what you give you sure but like it but that was clearly a bad guy bar so you can murder everyone in it like they're all friends now Oh what impression was more bad than good [Laughter] I'm glad you laughed I that was fun for the whole family yeah except the family of Robin Williams yeah I hope they're not listening I don't know they usually do you were in the room great comeback um you're way too young to make judge you're gonna be a lawyer for another ten years easy oh oh why do you think he bleaches his teeth things or laughs things are loud do you think he like one minute II ever know that it's even needed believe for Mississippi I don't know why does he bleed rusty the why does he wear clothes who can answer any of these questions why okay oh that was a fun sound effect all this the sound is so [ __ ] terrible I'm actually so disappointed I'm shocked that it's this bad in a movie where there's so much directors cut like are they fixed [ __ ] this is the good one your mom's the C train okay I like how it's not enough to like put him to his knees but a gun going off through interest or misfire that would just disable a normal person totally [ __ ] yes super-hearing yeah hey Joey paedo family ah no cipher from the matrix does he have it in his contract that he gets to wear a backwards can go ahead and everything he's in what yes I love hey he's only around for like a short amount of time yeah it's weird this is four years later than the matrix he looks 35 years old what happened to you Joey memento between maybe I was meh meh no I guess it was mementos the timeline balls can't say balls in a pg-13 movie beep oh no okay why did you do that how do you know he just knew it was there I mean it was clearly it's not if I was it's no I mean it wasn't visible before he did that you can see the outline I was a police commissioner and I had no idea that was there and a guy was just murdered by a daredevil I mean I was like I don't know there's there was a cigarette exactly where it is in perfect comedic timing I'd arrest the guy I question everyone's motivation there's why did Affleck do that why didn't Joe e do that also cigarettes don't do that no that's a movie thing oh boy so eluding a plastic Jerry can and having it explode that happened looking at you Evil Dead 2013 Oh got him take that not very well-received movie man that's a good way - why don't you take you've got a 2013 down a peg you could get a different kind of combination lock yeah you could heal like a normal blind person yeah I don't get a combination lock where you can't see them you know that's like bike locks where you kind of like they have like different numbers on them but they're you kind of scroll each one up and down yeah he's one of those you could feel it those out guys we've established every blade we've established that Ben Affleck the character and the actor is not smart if he wasn't blind he'd noticed that waters looks disgusting it's like contaminated yeah you've been drinking arsenic for 12 years looks like milk his Forest Whitaker face I love actors playing blind people it is my favorite thing it brings me endless joy just the staring off into the middle distance who built this for him which interior designer did he get him no the moving his Butler Alfred this is Batman he's just like the best lawyer he can afford everything you see even the best lawyers you just a low even if he could afford it who did he get to build that Alfred yeah what will they not have any questions like what do you need it for played by the incomparable Michael Caine it might sound a little something like I was gonna do it advantage of a government disability program he found a loophole that entitled him to one backdoor per blind person like one like secret chamber yeah is that is this back from like self flagellation is he one of those weird religious dude that was his first tattoo actually that's what he covered up with the dumb asian thing that he's got now what did he pulled out a tooth with his fingers Nevermore well you have to go to the [ __ ] chest now that would hurt so much Ben no you can't just throw down a perk and call it a day okay you're okay - can I say that anyone heightened sense of touch anyone who swallows pills dry and especially anyone who chews pills is a [ __ ] sociopath I think he's trying he's a maniac I never understood why he just put salt in his waters I don't explain that to me - perhaps it was tums and he just kept it in different bottle epsom salts okay look I have no problem with the Epsom salt bath it's good F it's good on the muscles after a hard day's work of murdering friends of a rapist and a rapist as it were and a rapist later and then making cool fire art I feel like he's a lawyer so you should know that rapists don't get the death penalty but again we've established maybe not a good lawyer today you would have still gotten acquitted but he was a lot he would have lost his job as a Hollywood actor I don't think he lobbied point of vigilante superhero movies is not that they like do things fortunately there's no proportional justice in vigilantism I just think it's hypocritical that he's a lawyer he lobbied for the death penalty for a guy who robbed an ampm for seventeen dollars okay no I don't remember this from looks across something hey is there like religious symbolism in this I think it's the first time they met okay so this is sort of a wone wait is he [ __ ] a nun I think that's mine Mary I hope it's the missionary nation well is she wearing a robe with little horns on it okay he's got a boner I don't remember this time I'm gonna try a picture of what boners look like played both a cowboy and an alien in a brave dual role that's not allowed pro bono like a pro bono case who's with me at least it's not pro bono no dos trays quatorze eh that's 14 you [ __ ] now why did he do that I like my tea with mustard too that's probably one of the worst songs oh yeah where'd he go that's a song that I like legitimately forgot about fur I don't know since it existed um no it's bad guy and it's your problem man I forgot that was a thing even though I was literally just quoting the lyrics yeah yeah yeah but he also did that in South Park so yeah shouldn't you be down at tooth yeah which - it was a molar alright you know alright Adams already incredible pain you'd be in it without ya you could doing anything I can imagine I I've never I got prescribed painkillers for my dislocated knee i toughed it out and I was like you ever find that me know through the through the door and the window hmm smells like sex but when I wound up getting my molars or sorry my wisdom movie like if you told me that I believe it what was the point in ending them and then starting them again yeah why was there supposed to be like it's not like it was in a different font size no it was in a different format that was like a placeholder than before where it's like oh yeah each name shows up individually and then we do the scroll not scroll and stop in the half girl some more I think I was like a placeholder for a cool graphic and then they forgot yeah they had a post-credits scene that they deleted and though this is not gonna be [ __ ] also we're not getting a sequel I'm pretty sure the theatrical cut the post-credits scene was the one with Colin Farrell in the hospital and this you know like that how that ends like that's I think that was the theoretical versions I've seen but looks like they just included in the car great soundtrack maybe I never thought I'd hear a better sound Catwoman but this is giving it a run for every surprising that either yeah now it's it's a question it's a it's a matter of taste like are are you or in the early 2000s there own panel are you in early 2000 garbage new metal person they both many minutes the mixing was pretty the issues that you had so people who hated it the first time or all the sudden love it maybe [ __ ] Suicide Squad every da movie does this director's cut [ __ ] like oh yeah the Snider cut here's another hour and 42 minutes it's more of bad [ __ ] it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't if they removed some of the like questionable [ __ ] like earlier but they did it they left it all in proudly what was your highlight of the film everybody for me it wasn't definitely just every scene with bull's eye in it yeah colored arrow was a delight yeah he was a sure knowing bullseye use a not Irish
