hello people and welcome back to my channel and today we got maybe a little treat view maybe it's nothing that you wanted but usually I'm very good at tuning out Netflix recommendations like every time you turn Netflix they're just trying to shove like 30 different things in your face and I'm just trying to watch the office for the 90th time and it's getting in my way but I'm now starting to realize that you guys love bad Netflix content people in journals love bad Netflix content and I'm here to cater to the people now this movie in particular actually did hit my radar a little bit more than the typical blip of seeing something that I just don't really care about because it had london tipton from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody Brenda song right there in you know beaten up on the cover of secret obsession did I say cover thumbnail the thumbnail for a secret obsession is that what it's called yes secret obsession so I kind of tanked it as something that like might be worth watching just for fun and then I saw that mrs. G G made a video on it and just based on his title alone I knew it was a movie I always have to watch but I haven't watched his video on it so if there's any kind of like overlapping commentary I do apologize but basically once I saw that it was definitely worth watching and criticizing or just enjoying for review purposes I just I watched it so it starts with her running through the rain just desperately trying to get away from someone and it's like really weird like she she runs to a pay phone the pay phone doesn't work she realizes that the person she's running from is now still you know slowly lumbering towards her and then instead of getting back in the car that she just parked in front of this machine she runs into this rest stop tries hiding but is making more noise than I don't I don't know she's she's very loud so I don't understand why this person does the very dramatic like kick open each door trying to get to her because she's you know she's breathing was good we gotta make a joke that was gonna get me in trouble um she was she was breathing she was breathing hard that's all I'm gonna say there's just no PG or nice way to say she was just breathing very intensely but because he does the dramatic trying to kick in the doors he gives her just enough time to escape get in the car the car keeps not starting for her and then it finally starts and then murderer McGee has her attached to a hitch on a pickup truck so she runs back into the rain and then gets hit by a card so my initial thought was that they would did one of those like show you something that's happening later in the movie at like the beginning of the movie and then it would like ease you into what the story actually is but no that's actually where the movie starts so she runs out of her car and then gets hit by a car and taken to a hospital and that's where our adventure begins actually no the adventure did begin with her running in the rain anyways so she's in the hospital obviously and then this guy shows up that just says you know I just got a call saying my wife was here and then just like runs into the ER even when they're all like hey you can't go in there she's got internal bleeding she might die he runs in there and like nobody stops to like check I D and then we realized hey she's got amnesia she doesn't really remember anything and you know this dudes there saying that he's her husband and he's just doting on her and then you get this like creepy guy looking through the window and then immediately like initially you're probably gonna be like creepy guy looking through the window is probably why her terrorists far from over creepy guys probably the murderer but then the movie just immediately starts throwing at you all of these weird things that make it so obvious that there's something wrong with Russell the husband that you just you don't care about the weirdo looking through the window even though he shows up a little bit later with flowers being like make sure miss Williams gets these and every time this dude is on screen there's just this like really dark music playing in the background that's making it like so obvious that the movies trying to throw him at you as the conflict mr. Cobb thanks for coming here [Music] they really were trying to set you up with your brain that this guy was the problem while still making all these weird brooding glances from the husband just solely surgery okay did she say anything anyone about what happened like this was amazing a situation where he he either wasn't her husband and basically once it escalated to murder I just kind of assumed that he probably wasn't murderous beforehand maybe I'm wrong it's either he's a murderer or he's like so disgustingly and ridiculously controlling and abusive that he just saw this as a great opportunity to just try to have a fresh start those were the two options in my head here but then just baiting this dude so intensely there's no way that this guy was anything it's like they forgot the point of a thriller was to like keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat and wondering what was happening but they're throwing it in your face so obviously from the beginning of the movie that there is something wrong with this dude that there's no shock when the stuff that should be shocking starts happening son obviously the detective there he has a bunch of questions for this dude obviously ask the typical like did y'all have a fight we were just trying to figure out why her car wasn't there because obviously that pickup truck rolled it away which they end up corroborating when they talk to like people from the scene the guy that ended up hitting her and he was like oh yeah there was a pickup truck and it drug a car away it just seemed so weird at the time but obviously I wasn't focusing on it because I just hit somebody and thought I killed them but we had the detective who I was like damn this guy's voice seems really familiar it's the Allstate guy it's the are you in good hands guy are you in good hands wait did mr. Gigi realize that can I like get into his video real quick and just like catch like that one spot that it might all say guy is the [ __ ] detective so it's detective Allstate we find out that he didn't manage to track down his daughter who went missing and still buys her presents like every year on her birthday and it clearly ruined his marriage and it's made it so that he's got this kind of like chip on his shoulder where I feel like feels like he has to solve things and while this situation is not exactly like that there's still definitely trying to draw that kind of narrative together but either way she finally wakes up and they find out that she has amnesia and doesn't even remember that he's her husband and you know she's kind of scared of him at first but then quickly like notices okay like he's got a wedding ring I've got wedding rings there's no way that this isn't my husband so he's got this entire family album photo book of just various things of like pictures of them around the office pictures of them getting married just different things like that and you're going through it and even from like my side glint it is so obvious that it's photoshopped like his skin tone doesn't match it's all really weird and blown out it's like you didn't bother doing any kind of color correction to make it match what the lighting of the picture would have been originally but at first I was like I could they not have just taken real pictures of them together I don't know what's going on here but that was when I was like oh my god that that's the twist that the terror that's never ending is that this isn't her husband and they just continuously spoon-feed that to you as it goes on because it goes back to the dark brooding dude who apparently we never even I don't even think we find out who he is maybe I'm wrong maybe I'm forgetting it was really hard to pay attention to this movie with like great vigor but I don't even think they ever go back to him but Russell the husband confronts him at one point being like yo why were you asking about Jennifer that's my wife and then just smacks him upside down with a crowbar and beats in and like strangles him to death and then buries him in the backyard which you know Jennifer conveniently wakes up during and starts screaming for Russell saying there's someone in the backyard with perfect acting rustle there's someone to the backyard before realizing oh my god it's Russell in the backyard she wakes up the next morning still not really remembering things and then you know he asks do you want orange juice and she responds with first glace I'm right aren't I there is see I told you to come back that is such a weird way to indicate that someone's memory is coming back so she's remembering that she likes fresh-squeezed orange juice every day but doesn't remember the value of this like ain't her husband Sui hands I'm going to run some errands and she's again looking at these pictures and kind of realizes that even though they are painfully fake as you're going through them like you're looking at stuff and his face is like blue lit and the neck is like you know warm and red and it just it's so weird and an opposite she realizes something's fishy when a reflection in the mirror has a dark hair like a dark brown very dark brown almost black hair dudes reflection into his kind of like sandy dirt blonde hair cuz that obviously doesn't make sense so at this point they're trickling releasing the info but we already know he's full of [ __ ] so I don't know what the point is like I'm not saying that you can't make something interesting where it's very apparent early on that a character is the bad guy or the character has done something wrong you can definitely do it I'm saying this movie didn't do it and what ends up making that more annoying is that the entire movie is basically just watching Jennifer and the detective all state finding more and more clues if it shows that this guy is basically full of [ __ ] but I as the audience member already realized that so it's just not that like whoa I can't believe it it's not like gone girl we're like every layer you're like oh my god what's wrong with this person it's just like yeah okay we get it he's not all right in the head why aren't you building some kind of like really crazy tension between Jennifer and Russell like why aren't you building up that psychological terror on her part from him there's just way too much going on where it's like they're trying to bring the audience along for a ride that we already got to the destination for so obviously at this point she is a little bit questioning of the situation you know they're going to bed and things start getting a little bit steamy and then she has a murder flashback because again at this point she wouldn't realize that she had been getting chased but she keeps having these flashbacks of you know the knife and things happening but you can't quite piece it all together so she has this murder flashback and obviously is no longer in the mood I cannot personally say that I've had a murder flashback but I feel like I can honestly say that if I did have a murder flashback it would probably leave me not in the mood for that but then he gets so pissed off that she won't do it totally unreasonable behavior and that's why I still this point I was still trying to give a slight benefit of the doubt that it wasn't that he wasn't even involved in this situation at all but it was just that he was like a disgustingly abusive controlling husband or something like that like up until this point that still could have been the angle they were gonna go with and even that would have been more interesting I think than what we ended up getting because there's just so many weird loose ends in this that the story that ends up taking place doesn't make sense that it would have gone on even like a fraction of this this long he's like gripping her arm being like I stayed in the hospital with you just waiting just hoping for you to get better you know what normal people do when their loved ones are in the hospital nice guys he leaves he's like okay then I guess I'll go sleep on the couch and then he gets on his laptop and then creepily watches her sleep because he apparently has security cameras all over the house but it's okay cuz he brings her flowers that's right flowers so everything's okay and he just explains he was totally out of line and it's okay just a quick aside if you're in a relationship where somebody pulls that kind of [ __ ] you should run because it will only get worse let's continue on to this so now we cut back to Detective page and we start getting answers to the questions that I've been wondering since I like very much like probably within the first five to ten minutes of the movie how did the hospital know that he was her husband and the hospital says they confirmed it because he had a photo album and knew about her back tattoo anybody who's friends with anybody with an online presence can now just walk into a hospital and say I'm this person significant other they have an infinity symbol tattoo on their wrist and here's a picture of us together in an office even in Canada where health care is free in this situation wouldn't cost you anything they would still check your Medicare card and your identification so that they could put that through health care and in the States they would need your health care information otherwise they would be billing you so they would need more of your information so how is this allowed to happen how were they even allowed to leave the hospital before the insurance stuff was taken care of but luckily the detective manages to figure out that the lower-back tattoo she has stands for the Allen family crest and then goes to visit them because if you guys were like well wouldn't there be some logistics of this guy trying to pretend to be somebody he's not with family members it's like don't worry we're taking care of that so protective Allstate promptly goes to find the address of the Allen parents and then finds their dead bodies cuz I'm like the guy he decided to bury in the backyard he just left her parents just dead in the house I don't know why no one noticed that they were dead or missing from their day to day activities I don't I don't know but either way that lets the detective know that something's not quite right here but he's still nowhere near as urgent as you think he would be when he's now got a homicide situation on the case that actually got dropped really quickly too he just kind of immediately goes back and is trying to find Russell really intently but apparently he has the ability to lock her into this room from the outside but it's okay though cuz after she establishes three times and it's locked she's a master bobby pin lock picker two seconds flat world record I'd love to know how she's had to put that to use in the past but all she really manages to do is trips sees the hand of the dead dude that was you know all very lately for all of like ten minutes being set up as the you know antagonist of this situations hand just there and then she gets cracked over the head by him again and then carried up to bed where he's trying to make it seem like she has amnesia get her just like hoping that she has amnesia again but then very stupidly she plays her hand by asking him who he is because you know she realize that he's not who he says he is because she got into the computer and realized that he had all like stock footage of his face where he like photoshopped its face into things because though number one thing to do when you've been captured by someone who's clearly crazy and pretending to be your husband is to call him out on it when you're disoriented and have a pretty damaged foot that is definitely what people would recommend you do in this situation you know detective Allstate goes to row a place of work and they're still trying to like trickle this information to us is if we're gonna be shocked by the revealed it oh my god that guy's not her husband and said it's just some creepy employee named Brian that got fired and that's why I say this is really annoying if they wanted it to be some kind of like twisty detective winding thing they needed to do a better damn job trying to conceal what was happening in this movie so obviously she's locked up but it's okay cuz the luck picking master strikes again and she gets her ass out and again doesn't really manage to accomplish anything with it but luckily because fake husband realized that he should probably get something to dissolve the body that's in the back of his yard the nurse who is trying to get a hold of them for rehab sees him and starts questioning him very openly in the public instead of just like calling the cops right away she's aware that something weird is going on in the fact that the detectives are looking for him cuz again it's always really good to alert somebody you think might have kidnapped another person and that people are aware that he might have kidnapped another person but either way luckily the good detective does still somehow manage to track him down and he realizes that the house isn't actually named for the Williams he just stuck a sticker over it when he pulls it back it says Garrity which is you know this guy's real last name why wouldn't you just get rid of the sign man anyway he gets cracked over the head to shoved in a freezer and you know the dude has one of these like it could have been so perfect Jennifer oh you just had to do was go with it I loved you for so long I know everything about you and you know you shouldn't have been with him you should have been with me so obviously I was gonna kill everyone to get what I wanted and then this is where it gets weird cuz he just says I would have probably killed you too but then the fates offered me something up but of course she doesn't kill her quite yet he gives her time to just kind of chill cuz he also had the husband's body just in the back seat of this car because he didn't send it why wouldn't you have buried that one too why would you let it stink up and leave evidence in a car I'm Sookie I'm so confused either way after he takes care of a couple things you know good old Brenda song Jennifer tries to pull the whole you know what it's just so romantic I didn't know you felt that way like I really understand what you meant like maybe we can have a fresh start I get that people are crazy and unhinged but are they so like crazy and unhinged that they wouldn't realize that you're trying to manipulate them because the last interaction you had was them realizing that you knew how messed up the whole situation was and that you were probably gonna die either way she manages to escape luckily Allstate dude is not dead comes to help too they'll get into a tussle and then Jennifer has to save herself and then finally we get the moment where Jennifer is in fact in good hands so before I just kind of get into how it winds down I would just like to point out the just ridiculousness of the plot of this movie so he decides he's gonna kill the husband and then starts chasing her down isn't really running after her in the beginning just kind of lumbering after her she then gets amnesia and he decided to try to manipulate this to his advantage like maybe when he first showed up to the hospital he was just gonna finish the job so that he could she couldn't report him because for some reason he showed his face after murdering the husband I don't know really dumb but then kills her parents I don't know when he had time to do that and then somehow thought that she just would never end up ever remembering enough again or he could just get there early enough he could just replant all of the memories in her head with his face like was that the end goal here like I don't understand what he thought was going to happen as a result of all of this the more I'm thinking about it it would have been better if he was just this crazy abusive husband that just thought he could use this to try to flip around and get her back on his side or something cuz she was trying to leave him but that's I maybe I should make a movie I don't know but then you know we wind into our conclusion the detective has now he's given rid of all the toys giving away all the toys for donation because he's now saved a girl he can let go over the fact that he couldn't save his own daughter full circle but then she shows up just saying hi to him she still can't walk right cuz again her leg is totally screwed up she's wearing heels why would you have her in heels and then it all ends with a very random closure letter from the actual husband it just makes no sense because there really wouldn't have been a reason for someone to write that if they didn't think that they were dying and she just drives off to her presumably happy ending except for the fact that her real husband's dead her parents are dead probably does have a job I still don't know what they were trying to establish did they want there to be a twist or did they not want there to be a twist or do they think their audience is so dumb that we wouldn't notice the fact that it was painfully obvious that he probably wasn't who he said he was but yeah that's gonna basically do it for this little commentary thing let me know what you guys are thinking in the comment section down below thank you all so much watching have a fantastic day and we'll catch you all later
