[Music] hey guys Casey Faris here I make videos on DaVinci Resolve here on YouTube make sure to subscribe for more of those today we are talking about turbulent displace if you know what it is you're excited if you don't you're like what why why is that what is that I'm talking about making things look Ripley this is something that we can do in fusion but it's not just an effect that you can put on things but once you learn it you'll use it all the time alright Here I am in the fusion page of DaVinci Resolve 16 and I've already set up a basic comp let's say I want this text to be a little bit ripoli maybe look like it's in the water maybe we just want to distort it give it a little bit of character here's how we do it the first thing I'm gonna do is click down here in my note graph and let's hit shift spacebar that'll bring up our select tool menu and I'm gonna type in displace just DSP not displace 3d and I'll hit that and down here on the nodes I'm gonna hold shift and just put this in between my merge and my media out I could have just had my merge selected while I brought up that tool but it doesn't matter and now we'll see not much is happening yeah and the reason for this is we don't have any kind of displacement map what displace does is look at an image and based on the luma channel moves it around and we don't have anything going on like that so let's make it a great way to do this is with this fast noise node right here in our toolbar I'll just drag this down to our nodes and I'll grab this and take the output of my fast noise and drag it on to my displace now that text kind of jumped a little bit that's because we're actually gonna be doing stuff to it with our displacement node selected over in our inspector we can change this refraction strength to adjust kind of how much this moves and that's really cool but we have even more control down with our fast noise and I'll just bring up fast noise in our left viewer by hitting the number 1 on the keyboard and what we're really generating here is kind of these blurry clouds and we can change the way that these clouds look and that's gonna change our distortion so one thing I'll do is bump up the detail contrast move the brightness down and I can also mess with the scale and what that does is just make the clouds a lot smaller and then look what's happening to our text really cool effect man it's so easy and it looks like you spent a million hours on it right the other thing I'll do is under displace go to this type and I'll say X Y and select luma and I can do all kinds of different effects that way too and if I mess with my X and my Y refraction I can get some really cool effects like let's say I want this text to kind of bleed down like that it's so cool I'll reset things we can boost up this slider about the same for the X and the y and we'll have just kind of a nice uniform kind of glob eNOS here and what's really cool is because we're driving all of this from our fast noise I can select fast noise and go over here to the inspector and change our seethe rate and I'll move that up a little bit and what this will do is actually animate our noise to kind of change over time which also drives our distortion so now we have those Wiggly letters whoo-hoo for anybody looking for a effect to kind of do this do the little displacement that is how you do it in fusion not too hard just a displace node driven by fast noise run whatever you want to distort through that I hope that was helpful and unlocks a whole bunch of creative juices yeah do you unlock juices here's a video about the basics of fusion do you unlock juices I guess if you have like a locked up juice fridge maybe what kind of juice would that be that's probably some pretty good juice
