I want to start this video off by just addressing the elephant in the room yes I have fallen victim to Corona hair yes that's why I've been wearing a hat so now that that's out of the way I want to go ahead and show you guys this awesome effect it's called the isolation effect the isolation effect is one of those effects that is used to just direct the attention of your viewer to a certain object or person or whatever you want and that's done by darkening literally everything around that object and the best thing about this is that it can be done literally within minutes all of that stuff coming up but first if you're new here my name is Billy Ripken and I make weekly DaVinci Resolve tutorials about different effects transitions and workflows that'll help you become a better editor so if you want to level up your editing skills click the subscribe button and the Bell notification to stay up to date on the newest videos put out but let's get into it if you want to follow along with me all these clips are free to download just go ahead and click the link in the description below to do that so once you have your clip and you're in DaVinci Resolve just go ahead and drag it onto the timeline cut it down do all the things that you have to do and then just jump right into the color tab now once we're on the color tab this is where the magic happens we want to draw a mask around the object that we want to isolate so for this clip I want to isolate my computer to do that we're gonna have to make another serial node so click on this node right here and hit alt s and this will create a serial node now if you haven't done any color correction on your clip you actually don't need to add an extra serial node in my case I added some color Corrections because I shot and log so since I already made corrections in that first node I had to create a new node but if you haven't done anything to your clip you can just go ahead and do all of this in that first node so now that we got that out of the way just go ahead and click on the window tab and select pen tool now just zoom in using your scroll wheel and draw a mask around the object so once we finish masking out the object we're gonna actually have to track that mask to the object so it doesn't move as the video goes forward to do that click on the tracker tab and just hit the track forward button and resolve is gonna just track all the way to the end of the clip now if you're like me and you started halfway through the clip you need to track backwards so go ahead and hit the track reverse button right here and it's just gonna track backwards so once all of that's done you can see that the mask is a little messed up in some areas mainly because part of the computer goes outside of the frame so resolve kind of gets a little confused and doesn't really know what to do so it kind of screws your mask up a little but we can fix it by repositioning the mask so still on the tracker tab we need to change the tracking mode from clip to frame by changing it to frame it's only gonna affect the mask in that frame whereas if we left it on clip and we moved the mask point it's gonna affect the whole clip and ultimately just ruin our mask so change it to frame so now just align the mask with the computer borders like this and now when we play it forwards you can see that our mask stays connected to our computer all of the way so now we actually have to isolate the object so to do that go down to the color wheels and drag down the gain to about point to zero but as you see the game is being dropped inside of the mask doing the opposite of what we want to happen so we got to invert it go into the window tab and next to the pen tool and hit this invert mask button right here so now that looks better but it ain't perfect yet now we need to make sure that the edges of this mask are not super sharp so we need to turn off the power window so just go ahead hit this drop down button right here and select off now under softness go ahead and start to mess around with the inside and the outside softness along with soft one we don't want it to look super sharp but we also don't want to bring the softness up the too much tour it just kind of looks like crap so play around with it until it looks good once you got it go ahead and bring the playhead back to the beginning of the clip and under whatever node we created this mask so for me I created this mask in serial node two in the keyframe viewer I'm gonna the keyframe button under corrector 2 since I had made this mask in serial node 2 so if you had made this mask in serial node 1 you're gonna have to add a keyframe under corrector 1 now just hit the drop down arrow next to the keyframe button and this is just gonna show you all the things that we can add with keyframes with incorrect or 2 and notice that there isn't any keyframes actually added yet so to add keyframes we need to interact with whatever parameter we want changed so since we're in the beginning of this clip we actually don't want the object to be isolated yet go ahead and hit that reset button right here on the gain and then add the keyframe just move the slider ever so slightly you can bring it right back to one but move it just a little so that resolve knows that this is the parameter that you want to add a keyframe under and then do the same exact thing under softness just move it ever so slightly now move to the part that you want the animation to be completed at and slightly move the slider again for softness then under gain and bring it down to point to zero and now you can see that we have all the keyframes right there so let's take a look at what we made alright so there you have it the isolation effect in DaVinci Resolve if you thought this video was helpful give it a like and also share with your friends so that they can put dis effect in their videos too so I got a question for you what do you guys think about the canon r5 let me know in the comments below do you think it's gonna be like the perfect camera or not so much and also do you think you're gonna get it personally I use a jh5 to shoot on but like dude they're talking like 8k full-frame no crop up to 30 frames a second with 8k raw and 4k 120 frames per second and all that for under like 4000 bucks holy crap that's like almost having like a red but with autofocus not a red so far I'm totally about it obviously Canon is known for screwing everything up I really hope that they don't with this one because it's looking a freaking great anyway so if you want more videos like this hit the subscribe button and also the bail notification to stay up to date on new videos put out but as usual the video on top is video all about the smoother vers effect in DaVinci Resolve and the video on the bottom is video that YouTube thinks that you would like but until the next one [Music]
