in this video we're going to go over the top 10 preps that you should buy every time that you go to costco let's get started costco is a membership-only warehouse that features many items in bulk or large quantities on average my family stocks up on supplies at costco about every other month namely on grocery items although many people do their shopping at costco monthly due to their good prices and oversized quantities costco is also a great place to buy emergency preparedness supplies in this video we're going to go over the top 10 preps that you should add to your cart every time that you go to costco whether you need it or not this will help you build up a well-rounded set of supplies for your pantry preps and general emergency preparedness purposes over a period of a few months the items that i'm going to recommend are prioritized based on shelf life so we're not going to be including any items that require refrigeration even if you already have this item in your pantry buy another one and then another one and then another one the goal is to build up a balanced stockpile of preps for you and your family or to give away to others in need at the time of the making of this video you may be looking at improving your family's preps due to covet 19 but the information included in this video should be beneficial for a variety of different emergency purposes rather than investing in the special 25-year shelf-life emergency foods like mountain house thrive legacy food storage and wise i recommend building up your pantry preps first with items that you actually use and you can rotate through so pick out your grocery cart and let's go through the top 10 costco preps to buy every time at number one we have a 25 pound bag of rice rice is probably the best pantry prep that you could add for your emergency preparedness supplies it has a very long shelf life a good amount of calories it's filling and you could use it for a lot of different meals i prefer the more expensive basmati rice that you could get at costco although you could get it for as cheap as 13 for a 25 pound bag so even if you already have rice at home just buy another one there are countless videos out there that show how to store rice in mylar bags with the oxygen removed to make the rice last for 25 plus years so keep building up your rice supply on every visit to costco the next prep to get every time that you go to costco is batteries costco has a really nice selection of batteries for a fair price you could buy a 40 pack of double a batteries for around 13 every time that you go to costco just buy another pack of batteries i recommend focusing on the double a batteries followed by aaa batteries from there you can move on to some of the other battery cells like cd and 9 volt most of them feature a 10 year shelf life and they could be used for a variety of different emergency preparedness purposes namely for handheld radios flashlights and other small electronics again every time that you're at costco buy some more batteries at number three we have canned meat for emergency purposes getting protein and meat in general will be a little bit more difficult and more expensive at costco you can get a wide range of different canned meats such as tuna corned beef chicken and spam every time that i go to costco i buy an extra eight pack of the tuna and then i buy an additional canned meat variety whether that be corned beef chicken spam vienna sausages pink salmon they all have really good shelf life tuna fish usually has a shelf life of around three to four years corned beef around five years canned chicken at around three years spam at three to four years and the pink salmon usually has around a four year shelf life so every time that you go to costco i recommend picking up one package of one of the canned meat varieties just add it to your pantry preps and forget about it when stored properly it should last for four to five years or more even if you're a vegan or vegetarian and you don't eat meat i would still recommend adding some canned meat to your home preps because other people will and you'll be able to use it for possible bartering again canned meat at number four every time that you go to costco pick up some extra cooking oil we mainly use olive oil in our cooking you could get a two liter jug of organic olive oil at costco for eight to nine dollars olive oil has a shorter shelf life of around 12 to 18 months so if you already have a dozen two liter jugs of olive oil and don't need any more i would recommend picking up some solid cooking oil options like the coconut oil which usually has a longer shelf life but in general it's good to have some cooking oil in your pantry preps so again at number four we have cooking oil at number 5 we have peanut butter every time you go to costco i recommend picking up an extra jar of peanut butter assuming that you don't have a nut allergy peanut butter is basically calories in a jar my favorite peanut butter is by far adam's peanut butter although it doesn't have the longest shelf life again at around 12 to 18 months however the non-atoms variety usually has a shelf life of two to three years gif peanut butter comes in a two pack for a very fair price when i was growing up in elementary school i think i ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich almost every day of school so in a survival situation i imagine i could get by for a long period of time with peanut butter and jelly again if need be if you already have way too many jars of peanut butter in your pantry preps just pick up some jam instead when you're at costco my favorite jam is raspberry but i'll pick up any one that seems to be of a fair price if i'm way too overstocked on my peanut butter preps again at number five peanut butter the number six item that you should pick up at costco every time that you go is a bulk package of soup or chili i prefer stocking up on these items at costco versus a grocery store because oftentimes they come in a larger container versus buying them individually i think this works easier for long-term food storage because it naturally makes me less hesitant to open up the package unless i really need to every time that i go to costco i buy an extra large package of the chili it's filling and has calories and protein to mix things up a little bit we also keep a large supply of soups ramen is one of the top items that my kids will eat all the time no matter what because sometimes kids are picky eaters while it's not the most healthiest option out there you could add on stuff to the soups like some of the canned meats for example to make it a little heartier and it's one thing that my kids will always eat so again at number six we have soup or chili and number seven we have canned or jarred fruit fruit is a nice item to add to your pantry preps because it could act as almost a dessert in an emergency situation again i really like those costco boxes that contain 10 to 12 cans of fruit so i'll either pick up one of those or i'll get something that's jarred for example jarred mangoes jarred peaches and things like that they usually come in a humongous jar at a very fair price the shelf life is also fairly decent for these items so at number 7 canned or jarred fruit buy a container every time that you go to costco whether you need it or not at number eight the next item that i recommend picking up every time that you go to costco is a container of vegetables either canned or jarred every time that i go to costco i'll pick up an extra box of canned beans or canned corn or anything like that they have a decent shelf life for a reasonable price again i really like getting the boxes that have multiple cans stored in them versus getting them individually at the normal grocery store because it allows them to be stacked really nicely in our emergency pantry preps while it's good to have a home garden where you're growing your own vegetables it's still a good idea to have some store-bought versions as well to complement your supplies hopefully if you're producing enough yield in your home vegetable garden you'll be able to do some of your own canning or jarring yourself but again at number eight we have vegetables canned or jarred the number nine item that you should purchase at costco every time that you go is a package of toilet paper many people were caught off guard during coven 19 with the toilet paper shortage around two years ago i built up a year's worth supply of toilet paper and did a dedicated video on it you could usually get the pack of 30 rolls of kirkland toilet paper for around 16 at a bare minimum i recommend having a stockpile of 100 rolls of toilet paper on hand so every time that you're at costco just buy an extra package for now just a single one we don't want to look like we're ordering after all so again at number nine toilet paper and at number 10 every time that you go to costco pick up an extra bottle of medication or supplements i'm not too particular on which ones to get but just get whatever your family uses the most so on one visit to costco you could pick up vitamin c on the next one pick up some tylenol on the next one pick up some airborne on the next pick up some fish oil and so on these usually come in large bottles for a decent price having medications and supplement will be a luxury item to have during a survival situation so again at number 10 every time you go to costco buy an extra bottle of medications or supplements some honorable mentions that weren't covered in this video are various baking supplies like flour and sugar i actually pick up these type of supplies at a different location like a restaurant supply store such as cash and carry so we'll feature that in its own dedicated video at a later date so that concludes my top 10 list of preps that you should buy every time that you go to costco i think that you could get these for less than a hundred dollars for every time that you visit costco when you're doing your normal shopping if you were to do this monthly for the next six months in six months time you would have 150 pounds of rice 240 double a batteries 48 cans of tuna 12 liters of olive oil 12 large containers of peanut butter 70 cans of chili 70 cans of fruit 70 cans of vegetables 180 rolls of toilet paper and six large containers of medications and supplements that would be a pretty good stash to have in your emergency preps so leave a comment below in the comment section regarding this video i imagine that many of you have different items that you would recommend including in a top 10 list of preps that you should buy every time that you go to costco again costco has a lot of additional preps that you could buy on occasion at a costco for example a generator or a flashlight or things like that but for this video i wanted to focus on the items that you can get regularly every time that you go to costco so leave your comments below in the comment section and i hope that you guys enjoyed watching this video see you next you
