Tiffany Haddish On Dealing With Bullies, Fame, Her New Book + More

woman miss Tiffany Haddish good morning so much has happened since the first time you were up here I feel like telling you congratulations is an understatement oh thank you I appreciate that that is nice I'm proud of you I'm proud of you I'm proud of you I'm proud of you too and I'm proud of you y'all still got jobs I'm even proud of you sleepy man man my life has changed drastically I'm definitely working every single day which I'm super grateful for my body's like go to sleep my mind is like no we got to get this money um and I'm able to make my mortgage payments on time I'm happy about that I'm able to provide for my grandma and help out my family in any way at least financially most but not all the time but you know and it's just it's just been amazing I got to the store and people know who I am even white people know me now surprising thing that happened the most surprising thing that happened I mean none of it's a surprise to me i'm i like thought of all this stuff and it's it's all happiness so it's not a surprise I'm just grateful that's the thing I love about you the Moses as you are an example of the power of positive thinking like you always speaking success like how have you been able to maintain that attitude based off everything you went through it if you don't know what she went through yes pick up the book pick up the book um I guess the way that I'm able to maintain that is is it's all about how you think you know it's all about your Dotson and that's the power in it and sometimes I do be feeling like oh man I don't you know I don't think this is gonna happen or I'm about to fail and I'm like oh you're not allowed to think like that take that out your mind right now you winning you successful you this and whenever I take pictures I always say the success success and when I drink my coffee I'll say a success coffee I eat my oatmeal this success oatmeal like that's how I Wow early age like people saw your talent your spear is like everybody knew that something great was going to happen yeah I don't know if I put in Tiffany you got a lot going on either you're gonna be a big star you're going to jail so I'm glad I chose the star part but yeah a lot of people did a lot of people I mean I wouldn't be where I'm at right now without all those people the good in the bad like without those experiences I wouldn't have anything to talk about so I'm grateful for all of those people yeah being you think you're bullies now yeah thank my boy Lisa yeah I thank all of them thank you James Thank You key oh [ __ ] thank you all y'all oh yeah you already inspired me okay I went to this school in the valley and it was like a you know three percent blacken I mean three percent black and Artie was one of the boys there that I really liked and he was in a drama class and I was like oh when one of my friend said he said drama I was like well then I guess I gotta give him drama that's how I get to make out with Adi because he wasn't giving me no play off the top and so I thought in my mind I thought oh yeah if I give him drama where I D right then they gonna have to put us together because we both black I mean imma have to be his wife or his girlfriend in a play or something and we don't have to kiss but you know my school want to be like thinking outside the box and stuff and like doing interracial relationships so then I never got to be in a relationship in a play with him or nothing and then I used to send him candy grams remember candy use the beet the business and I used to put Snickers and his candy grams like put a little some extra in there you not trying to write him notes and stuff but I couldn't spell for nothing barely read barely write words and stuff he ended up plant for the Redskins for a little bit and I hear through the grapevine from other people that I went to school with that he's married with kids okay so piece addi I'm sure a lot of old penises in the past they're trying to pop up on you now oh yeah a hockey trying to be resurrected is cute that's real cute but the resurrections not happenin my man I don't have time I don't even like go on dates you go on day no I don't have time girl you know people say they find time for things that's important to them so maybe in between that's not bad here's the thing it's not that important right now I got look Groupon has a sex toy section and that shows up let me get that the womanizing [Laughter] is amazing that you're still able to like even be open to having a relationship because you had some bad ones yeah nothing in the book you talk about your first marriage yeah it was a piece of work well you know everybody has a story to tell and everybody is who they are when they are who they are but I don't even know what that means I just felt like that was nice I mean I'm definitely open to having a relationship and stuff it's just you know like I just want somebody who's like better than me that I can learn from you know what I'm saying credit score better than mine work ethic better than mine just you know be it like a dope example to me and then you know you don't have no kids am i giving on my wish list yes yes hee-hee fine to me maybe everybody else thinks of me he could read my mind and he know when I feel like being bothered and when I don't feel like being bothered and like he dressed nice but not too nice a guy but he dressed just nice enough and he's funny right and he'd be giving me back massages but don't be trying to do it to me all the time just do it when I feel like doing it [Applause] I'm getting ready to of a speaker and you put the music on to a certain frequency it'll start to take that shape it's like kind of like a flower to change my passwords but anyway so so Erika had like this Sri Yantra and so when we went backstage and everything I was a little tipsy cuz I was drinking some Japanese whiskey we drink whiskey alright I was getting on her nerves but do you know Erica be hit me up like we eat each other about every week FaceTime in and talking and chopping it up that's my girl she talked about to do SNL skit together yeah I was trying to make that pop it was you know what I was trying to I was trying to turn it as a mirror until a black man I was trying to get Queen Latifah Jada pinkett-smith Regina Hall Tyler Perry Erykah Badu on there and Michael B Jordan man maybe I could hit that now that was I told them like weeks in advance like you got a column in book America's these are not just like regular people they say like celebrities that ain't doing nothing everybody got something to do so like hitting my book now and they all told me yeah artists you know everybody that I wanted on the show said yeah but that's nothing hit him up to like the week that I got to the day I got there you know well you know that's how they operate so which i think is felonious but whatever I lost seven pounds I like to call it the SML diet it's the stress diet I was very stressed out cuz you know I came with ideas but that showed it's you know it's a machine it's been going for over 40 years so they got their is it 40 years yeah 40 years in they got their own system that I wanted way of doing things so you know you can't go in there thinking like all my ideas for the get on no they not they not and even if they are super funny they're not gonna argue it on but you can get you know I got like my unicorn thing in there and and then I had to throw a little bit of a temper tantrum because they was trying to make us come out of a cave and I wasn't feeling that I'm like you better put some flowers and make it beautiful don't you ever seen words come out of cave no have you ever watched the unicorn movie it's seen a unicorn come out of cave no we didn't get these unicorn it's a like grotto or something so they looked it up but I treat you like they were doing you a favor kinda I mean no yes No some people yet some mmm some people know it just the writers and stuff are really great they were really awesome and the writers and the performers were phenomenal all of them are phenomenal and then everybody else is what they did anybody remember when you audition because he was one of that when they was trying they didn't remember I had to bring it up the radio you said remember we all fronted on me no I said I really love this institution I've come and tried to get employed here several times and y'all never hired me and I want to say thank you for that Michael thank you for not hiring me what I do as an alligator yeah it just we have to be you know I wouldn't want a compromise that's awkward the last back unicore why is it named the last play it tells you in the first well it's been out since December 2/5 is that online okay so I call it the last black unicorn because when I was younger kids used to make fun of me because I had like what I thought was a mole growing out my forehead it was actually a wart and they used to call me a dirty unicorn and I used to have like I had them all on my chin I got this one under my ID and one of my nose and I had this work run on my head sleeping like you a dirty unicorn you got flies on you what you're dirty but like all this stuff in a you smell like onions all that stuff and I mean you know like you know man no she wouldn't coming all the way through had to come here poppin off and all that so like and I had a lot of hair and so at the end of the day um I just start thinking about like you know you start like joining the like kind of like you were saying you joined your bullies well I started like clowning back and I started cepting what they said like yeah I am a unicorn yeah I'm the last black unicorn yeah I'm special I'm powerful you can't stop me if you nice to me I'll let you touch me and if you mean to me I will stab you with my Warren in the last black unicorn my grandma burned it off I got that removal but she took me to the doctor and he's like always support she got a wart and he's like you've been playing with dirty kids probably and I think about Chios used to pop me in the forehead and she be having knots on her fingers so she probably gave me words from dumping me and ahead as well yes she thought I had herpes she told me I have herpes took me to the doctor and he said it was a word that she burned it off and they never grew back wow you think you're taking a supreme care your grandma right now so yeah that's all your money goes all my money goes to her she deserves a man she put in the work so she deserves he broke his heart so much to to see you yeah I mean when she sees me on TV she's like sent it to me she's like she watching you on TV that's Tiffany like you know she thinks she I don't know what she thinks she is you know how people as I get older they start to revert and everything so at fret when she's not walking right now but when she was walking and stuff she would put on my clothes not that and talk about she and we going out let's go out and dancing but now she's not on but she's still dancing and stuff in the chair and everything like when I come in I go hey you know I'm just hoping to get her to a point where she can walk again you know it's gonna happen ya know I can feel it I feel like by February she's gonna be walking and then we gonna dance and I'm putting on Instagram me and my granny gone we gonna have a dance routine everybody gonna be jealous we don't go viral now everything you do goes barn I saw the picture you did with Barbra Streisand he wouldn't run the car TB yeah thought it'd be wrong to her name oh man that conversation was amazing Barbra Streisand let's let's just first off she's a legend and her nails always on fleek and she's just so gorgeous it's so nice and and we just started talking about you know where we come from and stuff and she's telling me about Brooklyn and all that and like she's like I come from the ghetto Brooklyn and I was like we're alike and we start comparing our hoods and I was like this is different times different generations different demographic but she but we understood each other and like and really enjoyed that and I was like what's it like for you to be a role model and stuff and she was like well I don't really concern she wasn't really concerned about that so much she just want to do a good job and we talked about her directing and like producing and acting and so she's like the first woman to do all that in her own movie and all that we talk about that and then I was like you know it's important to inspire and be a role model I think like em show people that you can pull yourself up out of nothing and I think that's what cardi B did she pulled herself up in there look at her she on top and getting proposed to in front of 30,000 people and honor in the whole world on the internet and everything she was like who is cardi B I start explaining it to her she was like I never heard of her I was like you ain't never heard a song little [ __ ] you kept up with me if you wanted to I start planner video and stuff and she was like oh that's very nice and who knows maybe on her next concert she might do like a no but I know I got invited to another movie in dinner night though let's see if she's there now over the weekend you were out Caroline's is there anything that you stay away from when you do your stand-up Oh some community stay away from politics I mean I don't really focus too much on politics I'll talk about it a little bit but it's not really you know I'm not very educated in that department so unless somebody asked me a question and they want my opinion and then I'll give you but I'm not that educating that departments I don't I don't talk about things I don't know early on for recognizing your talent and helping you out it's super dope and I'm still trying to pay him back his $300 but he was thinking he was like it's $300 back he's like don't worry about it it's a good investment but yeah he's like one of the comics that really helped me out and there's a whole lot of other people that help me out like it's a lot of little guardian angels out there and he's just the most popular one you know but yeah he's he's helping me a lot and working with him in the movie was fun in educational night school have you been getting a lot of that dough like people like you always you shot not Kevin all the time what about me I was here for you know nobody nobody's done it they probably doing it behind my back but they don't say it to me and my phone number changed so about three weeks ago [Laughter] a lot of comics said actually you went to like a comedy boot camp yeah yeah a lot of people think that it's like easy to get up and tell jokes but it actually is a lot of work yes hang yourself and so that actually probably really like made you get it together yeah because I met a lot of great comics Charles Fleischer who still he's like a scientist you know and he did the voice of Roger Rabbit and like he's my friend you know I talk to him often Richard Pryor he was wondering the mentors who really gave me some great advice about having fun on stage and that's the philosophy that I've taken with me and everything that I do in life then you got Chris Spencer and Wayans brothers like a lot of people that I met through their Quincy Jones came through and I was like what are you doing here you know I'm gonna do a stand-up but he taught us how like doing stand-up comedy is just like doing music there's a rhythm and a cadence to your punchlines and all that and it's the tone of your voice and inflection it is how you could just say a word a little bit different in people to laugh because you're striking a chord and they soul and I felt like that it just taught me how to do magic girl no no when I would go to the swap meet dudes to try to holler like not after no comedy show I mean other comics we like hit on me and stuff like that but no I don't know like male groupies most men come to the comedy club with another woman so they're not even they might be looking at you like they want to say something but they don't they don't really say anything but nowadays you know holla they be trying to holiday be trying to slide at the ends and stuff and I try to stay out to the end what's a good line that might work for me mm-hmm like something that might if somebody wanted to approach single tip somebody approached my credits cool hello Tiffany my name is Curtis and my credit score is 820 I don't have any children no cuz I've done it already and I want I want to UM if I'm I have kids I wanna be the first okay you know what I'm saying I want it to be special for me in here you know I wanted to hold a baby up like you are my most special I want to experience that if I experience if I get to experience I want to experience it with somebody who's going on this new journey with me not like girl okay three of my baby mamas went through the same night then just take just pass gas you gonna feel bad like I don't wanna hear nothing like he gonna hear about none of your baby mamas I don't want to meet none of them because also when you guys that have kids you turn I tend to fall in love with the child more than the man and then I'd be stuck in a relationship I don't want to be in and I don't want to lead a kid behind but sometimes you got a lead in behind yeah because once you break up can you stay in touch with the child not too often and you're not supposed to you got wait till they get grown and reach out to you now have overreached I want a garden wither I'd let it go over to our house and like you know plant some vegetables and grow something with her she really isn't a message of no she's supposed to be in South Africa right now if she sent a message on and giddy that she slid in the dance I don't know I'm glad she was supposed to be there but she had to go to yeah but Ellie also said nothing on my rental car papers now I signed the papers you didn't even watch Tiffany the country tell you had a dream yeah yeah it's her so she was saying like you know what this nitwit Germany found success like what have you done for yourself what have you treated yourself to right and I was like I've just been paying my mortgage on time that's it and so then she was like well if you can't like get anything what would you get and I said I would give myself a Tesla you know or I will buy myself some real diamonds and so um she was like well we got you something no your birthday was yesterday so we got you a Tesla and I was like oh my god I was crying and everything I was so happy and she was like but it's the Ritalin it's only like a seven day I was like I was so happy in and it was like you could drive off it and I was like ready to drive off and they're like okay give us the keys it's not good but whenever I want to rent it whenever I have the time or whatever just called a production and they'll get the car for me I don't know maybe they want to see my driver's license and get a credit card and it's funny because Tyler Perry called me and said girl don't take the Tesla back just keep driving you get me arrested she didn't try to hit on me nope she did I didn't notice in Tyler Tyler Tyler was kind of instrumental in your career for a second right yeah yeah he put me on if loving you was wrong which I thought was like super awesome I was only on for one season cuz it's a drummer and I guess they felt like I was too funny or whatever but him releasing me allow me to do the Carmichael show and they're not just you know let into all the fantastic news I'm sure a lot of people are now going back and looking at your past catalog let me go back and see the stuff Tiffany Haddish has done before all of this girl's trip Fame and everything Justin check check back on and see how funny you were in previous thing yeah and it'd be like okay she has some I definitely it's it's a growing process so it took a long time to grow into motives of what I am there and I'm I'm growing even more every day like so that's what I'm excited about know who you were yet and now I'm like oh that was Tiffany Haddish in altogether day we had the pipe no she's also a weird time at Hollywood with all these allegations from people coming for it I'm sure it also makes you look back and reflect on things that happen so you want to come up where you're wrong time guys try to try you oh yeah a lot of guys try to try me I would have watched on or do you feel like for a lot of people they just thought well this is part of what it is well how bad was it did you get touched it did you say something yep dudes a touch on you and on it and but you just you know I would just kill they kill they kill they soul I just start talking real bad about them and but they don't like me and then I can't get high here for nothing I mean I wouldn't talk about him behind their back I do it right in they face you know be like you masked man is that one of the reasons like maybe it didn't take long and I did everything I wasn't supposed to happen me but is that one of the reasons it didn't have any faster baby maybe I mean I beautiful and she because she from the South the brisket she made bomb it was delicious did I see you're making no I didn't watch she made it I don't think she would lie about something like that and their potatoes her and the potato salad was bomb and then I had brought the collard greens and she made cornbread I don't even ask her to make cornbread she made cornbread on top of that it was all good I love the fact you made her cook for you though yeah well I thought if you want me to come over we go like you cooking I cook it she was like that sounds so much oh my god yeah and it's just cuz she just moved it to her new house you know she was talking about cooking and stuff so yeah let's do it yeah we know you grew up Jehovah Witness so how do you handle the holidays um you celebrate Christmas I don't really celebrate it but I guess my way of doing it like every Christmas and Thanksgiving I go up to the Laugh Factory and I serve food to the homeless I guess that's if imma celebrate that's how I celebrate I spend time with people because I know what it's like to be homeless I remember living their life and I remember like feeling like dang I ain't got nobody to eat with you know my family ain't messing with me right now we all split up and spread out so let me go up here and I just keep going and then afterwards I'll go like see my family whatever but this past Thanksgiving everybody a lot of people came to my house which have me feeling some type of way because I but my grandma was there so they all came over and I was not used to that or they never did that in previous years mmm but you're popping now so they wanna come home I said well you got food there that's what happened before last year trying to be funny you guys do you give young girls when it comes to like abuse cuz you went through a lot of domestic abuse yeah sexual abuse from foster parents but you kept a lot of that to yourself so what advice do you give the women that may be going through that now if you going through that now I would say you know figure out a way to get out of it you know it ain't and know that it is not your fault in that you do have power a lot of times should be in those situations and you feel like you don't have any power like there's nothing that you can do to get out but you can get out and then and don't don't let that person guilt you into staying or guilt you into being there and tell tell people talk about it don't be afraid to talk about it like I think that's a problem soon and don't don't feel no shame like people try to make you feel shame about stuffing make you feel like you crazy or you got a problem it's them that's got the problem you know a lot of times for you my next special yeah yeah that's gonna be happening real soon I think it's happening in February March I'm a shootie and then it'll be out by this summer and day do you feel like your life has come full circle because you always talk about the impact Roger Rabbit had in your life yeah are you in Charles fleiss's we could you're cool like you feel like it's come full circle yeah a lot of things will come full circle my life has a whole bunch of circles all around all around and I got some more circles I need to complete you know I need to get these awards I don't know about that I'm not really betting on that I'm talking more like a hoodie award Roger Rabbit and nothing no no no no no that would be dope hey Roger Rabbit - and we trying to put in they try to put in solar panels or some which other they trying to take the water and we gonna get it clean me in the toon town go even old age I know the to give you now uh he beats up we'd be talking about Sciences laugh in mathematics and like he inspired me to get a microscope so I'll be looking at all kind of stuff in a microscope and he taught me on all kind of things so when you look at things in the microscope you like oh I don't know if I want to eat on this well yes and no like you know I just when I look at now I remember when I first got the microscope I didn't sleep for like two weeks because I was just so amazed at everything like in like I was just like thank God is so awesome you got such a great like sense of humor and an excellent design like I was like wipe the refrigerator and they put it in a petri dish and then let that run and look and be like oh my gosh like these things are ugly and some of them are beautiful and then when dudes will come over and drink off a cup I'd be like I'm about to find out if you got something I lead a cup on the counter and ice water cut the petri dishes look at seeing me you know maybe I've looked at sperm I've looked at everything yes yes I mean did you use a condom and then it's permanent condom and you just get a q-tip no but this you know where I have learned that some people you know say crazy when they mean you funny or you you know what you make okay clarify you learned it when you say you stupid for years I used to want to fight everybody and feel salt and be like I'm not stupid like so mad and then not till I started working at the airlines and the girls like you so stupid and I was like look you got one more time to call me stupid i'ma beat show ass right here in the airport she was like you do realize I'm saying you're funny right I was like [Laughter] every time I see you you're super positive your energy is always good but what about them days when you're tired or you might be upset about something you don't feel like me and funny and people just expect you to be funny um then I'll just be quiet and just smile at them or whatever and I still laugh like you know or I just tell them I'm not in a good mood today I feel really bad and they'd be like oh what's the matter and then I tell them what's the matter and you know I might get a hug and then I start feeling better you know they say 15 hugs a day keep the psychiatrist's away it's important to be embraced on a regular basis if you notice like children are always like especially really little ones always want to be held always want a hug on you and that feeling really never goes away but we try to like masks like I'm a grown-up now like I'm I don't want nobody touching me but we need to be touched we need to be held yeah you almost broke my rib dog this is my random bet I was thinking the other day we had our holiday party maybe people I see here like everyday we don't hug each other when we come in here then for some reason when we're out later on did you hug everybody then you see her and you feel like like all right I'll hug you good you know I got like a holiday I don't know that's why I love comedy though to like comedians even if we don't like each other when we see each other we get we always heard like everybody give her Gor some type of you know greeting of respect no matter what I that's why man I love going to the comedy club I'm guaranteeing my fits in hugs you know people don't give me a hug even when I wasn't nothing they could still get like egg I saw that said man come here give me a hug like you know like bombed you're the just hate is it love I you know they smiling in your face all the time they wanna take you place I mean they they're nice to me in my face but you know it's funny because like this past Thanksgiving other conveniences like I'm so proud of you I'm so proud of you give me hugs and everything and I had brought my cousin with me and they didn't know that that was my cousin so she's sitting in the back where the comedian's at and she's like girl I was talking so much mess about you they stalk is so bad like how she get on this level like a lot easier she's not even that funny is she not did she not that and then she said mm you come off the stage and walk over and start serving name like ah she get on Turkey like us when you get to a certain level in your career then the owner of the Laugh Factory he puts you on the cranberry sauce now I'm on a turkey that's you you killing the game when you won't suck you dump Eddie you gotta be to worry about who warned Turkey that boy and comedians are Betty that's why we need hugs damaged people so she was so mad she said I wanted to fight three them dude say was oh my god I can't believe how they was talking about you they so jealous of you and I said nah it's okay that's normal that's the environment lame is huh when women do it okay I can get it you know cuz they have you have a penis but you know man they upset that jealous women anyways cuz they're coochies fell out see everybody starts out is female all humans start out as female and in a Croma song kicks in and your cootchie fall out that's why men have nipples okay and so you guys are like I mean if you ever look at a clitoris look at a term I'm trying to use the proper term he was physically handicapped that's it I never had the courage to be like why are you here little while your face twisty hard questions yeah it's like somebody asked you if he was in handicap player first off that hand was little so he probably was born with the little hand so that's like me saying why are you black yeah you know it's not it's it's it's it is what it is that'll mean he don't deserve to be loved I don't mean he don't deserve to be treated like a human being and that don't mean to handle him like a delicate flower I mean cuz he was throwing bags he was wrong with that right here yet a regular right hand throwing him back that's me holding my waist with that strong hand smacking my ass with a little baby so you would suggest the women I would suggested they're not gonna run away from you probably gonna really love you and appreciate you I mean it they they got creatures too why not they human the human a human if you feel like God don't make no mistakes then BOOM yeah and you know one letting go yeah why I was doing it at a show and she was like you're going to hell I said for sleeping with somebody that's the handicap of sleeping with somebody with a disability she said yeah you wanna help I said so you handicapped race this is what you're telling me you races against people that have disabilities our soldiers come back to him and they fight for us and come back missing the leg and you telling me you wouldn't give him I spent any time with him because he's disabled because you think you'd want to help for sleeping with somebody handicapped and she was like well no no I'm not yeah shut up shut up shut up [ __ ] you deserve love just like anybody else you got a heart beating in his chest red blood pumping through his veins you deserve to be learned I don't care what you don't care if you got Down syndrome you [ __ ] you got just you missing a leg you got one eye I mean and we love you and we appreciate you and we got you a gift okay uh-huh so that's for you it was your birthday our birthday was last week her book came out this week Christmas is around the corner so we got you something
