[Music] what's going on Imperials its emperor cubone here Pokemon types are a cornerstone of gameplay and part of what gives the series a strategic appeal and a way that many Pokemon gain a decisive edge is by combining two types together creating a unique blend of strengths and weaknesses in regards to how they face all of the other types out there however despite having around 900 Pokemon there is yet to be a representative of each possible pairing of the 18 types within the games still lacking quite a few so let's take a look at which type combinations have yet to be done in Pokemon and speculate on what might be able to fill those shoes design-wise now a couple of types will not be appearing anywhere on the list as they have already had every single possible combination there can be flying was the first one to do it by finally getting a flying and fighting type while also adding in the newly created fairy type close on its heels was the water type getting its last pairing of water and fire shortly after with the release of the mythical Pokemon volcanion which brings us to a good point for the purposes of this exercise we will be counting all viable type combinations even if the only Pokemon that has them is incredibly rare and there's no way that you could get them for the majority of the game the exception being Pokemon that are not always that type meaning if a specific type combination is only accessible in a temporary form change I do not consider it as having a proper representative so basically while there is technically a dragon and Fairy mixture it's only on mega Altaria so in my book we still need a Pokemon that gets that combination full-time so starting with my favorite type ground we can see that it has been paired with every type except for Fairy and fighting crowd and fighting is certainly an interesting combination together being strong against electric fire poison ice rock normal dark and steel but the ground is of course unable to hit the flying which is unfortunate due to the fighting side of things because this combination is weak to flying grass ice water fairy and psychic ground and fighting also resists bug dark poison and quad resists rock with an immunity to electric as far as what it could possibly be I made up a fake Pokemon a long time ago that was a fighting and ground type and it was a semi large sort of desert lizard similar to the one here but on two legs I felt that it was a fitting evolution to the first form and a great palatable way to get the Taiping introduced now ground and faerie is a combination that we've seen on this channel before since it was one that I was quite interested to see come about it's super effective against electric fire poison rock steel dark fighting and dragon it also has immunities to electric and Dragon on top of resisting rock dark fighting and bug however the pairing is only weak to grasp ice water and steel and as I said before the best thing in my mind for a ground and faerie Pokemon would be the pink fairy armadillo it would just be too perfect to pass up next let's look at the bug type currently bug has been paired with all but three other Pokemon types this was largely helped by the recent additions of orbital and frost moth to knock down the remaining matches it's somewhat surprising that we don't have a bug and archetype but the setup isn't so bad being super effective against psychic twice grass dark itself and ghosts but it resists grass dark ghost ground and is immune to psychic and a bug dark combination would be weak to bug fire flying fairy and rock so while not having any huge advantages it still got enough to be quite niche to me there would be no better way to introduce the concept than with a big wasp or a nasty Hornet of some kind such insects are notorious for their volatile nature and could easily adopt a dark persona given a shadier complexion next is bug and Dragon and while dragon is considered a generally strong type it is only super effective against itself not lending much to bugs psychic dark and grass but it does help a lot with the resistances of grass water electric fighting and ground which leaves the potential pairing weak to ice dragon fairy rock and flying combining bug and dragon is an intriguing prospect since it involves two different pools of attributes from which to draw meaning it would have reptilian and insect like features they have skirted this line before so I assume that they can come up with the design that is sufficiently compromisable between both types and the only one left is for bug and normal but it's easy to see why this pairing would be strong against grass psychic and dark since normal adds nothing except an immunity to ghost on top of resistance is to grass and ground that just leaves the weaknesses of flying fire and rock honestly it could be worse as post putting these two types together at all is somewhat of a contradiction in the first place since normal means plane or as bland as you can be usually involving a small woodland creature whereas bug has something defining it the only way I could see it being justified as if it had some sort of regular animal that was given insect characteristics spider monkey is basically the only way this could be valid dragon and theory have yet to be paired outside of a temporary mega evolution but that makes sense due to their being mortal enemies however the combination might not be as strong as you would expect it only hits dragon dark and fighting super effectively but it does resist electric fire water grass bug dark and fighting with being immune to dragon to boot so I guess it's better defensively seeing is how it's only got half as many weaknesses with faerie ice steel and poison the most likely course of action for splicing these two types into one would be to go for some sort of cutesy puffy or dragon that would be a simple way to do it but then again mega Altaria wouldn't be most people's first thoughts on the subject either so there's probably a number of potential inspirations that could be used I'm thinkin maybe being based on the medical symbol of the bronze serpent and have it being based on healing with lots of Recovery Options that could certainly be both Dragon and fairy enough to me Electric seems fairly isolated but over the years it's managed to accumulate all but three possible combinations the first one being electric and grass now I know you'll say that Rotom has an electric and grass form but again it doesn't always stay in that form all the time as its default so to me we still need a proper representative this combination will be strong against water rock ground and flying but it would merely inherit the weaknesses of grass with fire bug poison and ice since the flying witness cancels out as well as the ground however it would resist steel grass water and quad resist electric electric and grass is kind of difficult to put together in your imagination which might be part of the reason that it hasn't been done justice yet but to me I think a good way to tackle these different types might be is some sort of crab we've had non water type crabs before and something about the shell and claws make me think that both elements could come across in the same design a prevailing theory before gen8 was that score pony would be electric as well as fire I never bought into it but it would have been cool such a pairing would be strong against flying water grass bug steel and ice this combo is terribly weak to ground as well as water and rock while resisting steel bug grass fairy flying ice electric and fire as for what it could be I'm thinking maybe it could be some sort of mid-sized cat like a Lynx it's got a certain finesse that could cover both types without alienating the other plus don't you want to see a red length with lightning bolt stripes I thought so and lastly electric has yet to be paired with fighting a curious combination that results in being strong against water flying rock steel normal ice and dark but is only weak to psychic ground and ferry not a bad trade-off especially given the resistances to electric steel bug rock and dark the design of such a creature would be critical since it could easily fall into the trap of just having an electabuzz rip off with boxing gloves shoved on so we can do better in fact I'd like to posit that a good way to get this combination would be through another Pikachu clone but this time make it a capybara basing it on the world's largest rodent would certainly lend to the appropriate level of toughness that would necessitate the fighting type to be added and just think they might even finally let one of them evolve but fighting has one more outstanding combination left with ferry these two types provide super effective coverage on rock steel ice normal Dark Dragon and fighting itself that would be weak to flying psychic poison fairy and steel since fighting does not resist steel as it seems to be a common misconception what it does resist however is rock along with bug and dark witch fairy also resists and adds an one to fighting and a dragon immunity for good measure designing a proper unit to house both of these types is of tough but I think there could be some solid contenders to lean into both sides of the persona ferry also needs to be put with the starting type of fire a combination of these two types would lead to super effective hits on grass bug ice steel fighting dark and Dragon quite impressive alone and when stacked with resistances to fire grass Theory bug dark fighting and ice and an immunity to Dragon it becomes quite an asset even with the weaknesses to water rock ground and poison it still resists a third of the game so you'll have no trouble finding a spot for it to be useful now don't ask me why but for a possible design I'm thinking some sort of lemur it's cute and compact enough for a ferry and if you gave it an orange red tint and maybe some light flames coming off the tail I think that it could effectively nail the introduction of this currently unused typing of course if we're talking about fire then the most egregious lack of a type pairing to date is undoubtedly fire and grass all of the starting types paired together make good combinations and these two are no different with a super effective spread over water grass ground bug rock ice and steel and resistances to electric ferry steel and a quad resistance to grass plus it's only weak to poison flying and rock but the grass type moves could help neutralize that last one anyway I've seen suggestions on what to make this unorthodox union anywhere from Hot Chili Peppers to a burning bush but I think these two types could be expertly merged into a design for a tiki pokemon a wood carving with fire coming from its mouth and eyes seems to be a natural fit and could finally give us one of the few remaining type pairings we can all agree that we want now I realize that the news in mode of the gali reinter mana tan is ice and fire type however that form change is even less reliable than some of the other ones that we've already discarded so let's talk about fire and ice together these two types can take out bug steal ground flying ice dragon and grass never even stood a chance as far as weaknesses these two do actually cancel out a bit leaving only ground fighting water and a times for vulnerability to rock this combination also resists grass bug theory and of course quad resists ice but what could this thing possibly look like I mean talk about opposites it doesn't get much more diametrically opposed than these two I think a possible way that this could work is by creating a sort of frost giant pokemon and giving it some fiery weaponry perhaps a club and possibly even wearing a pelt afire or some facial hair that grows out of the previous evolutions next up we find that the ghost type has a few stragglers starting with of course ghosts and normal despite limited offensive capabilities in only hitting ghosts and psychic with stab potential there is still hope for this typing due to its defensive side normal and ghost resists bug and poison but more importantly results in three immunities two fighting normal and ghost that's right this combination is immune to itself and what are arguably its main problems since now it's only weak to dark but there are plenty of ways to get around that the problem and likely why there hasn't been this combination before is that much like the last entry these two types seem quite opposite from one another and as I was racking my brain somehow I settled on haunted Russian nesting dolls they seem pretty normal enough but could be brought to life by apparitions and you could have it be a multiple stage line with the previous stages still being inside as they break apart sort of like a better version of the dragged a bolt line also somewhat surprisingly we've yet to have a rock and ghost type this mixture gives an advantage over psychic ghosts fire ice bug and flying this leaves the weaknesses of grass water ghosts dark ground and steel but it has resistances to fire bug flying Quadra it's poison and has immunities to normal in fighting and it's not too big of a stretch to imagine what this pairing could look like with any number of ancient stone carvings being animated by an accompanying spirit or a place the boulder guys from super mario would work wonders as well the ice type is generally looked down upon due to its fragility and when looking at unused combinations putting it with normal is pretty well scraping the bottom of the barrel putting these two into one would make it good against ground flying grass and dragon since normal has no offensive advantages and it would be weak to fire rock steel and quad weak to fighting however on the plus side it resists ice that's it really I mean there's an immunity to ghost sure but that's pretty thin luckily things are better on the creative side since I could imagine several fitting organisms for such a typing there are any number of arctic mammals that would easily be a no-brainer for an ice and normal type but personally I'm leaning towards a musk ox or something similar so that we could somehow justify an ice type tauros one lingering type mashup that I would be quite curious to see come to life is poison and ice together they would be super effective against grass flying dragon fairy and ground the pairing would be weak to psychic ground steel rock and fire at least they cancel out one threat and they would resist ice poison bug at grass and ferry these two types really have nothing to do with each other in any way which is why I would be so inclined to see what they could make after all toxicities pretty out left field so they could do something completely unique like maybe some toxins seeped into the deep layers of ice and the spirit of the frozen wilderness has absorbed the contamination to take revenge on those that might have caused it some sort of ice shelf devil as we've already seen normal despite being one of the most populous types in the franchise still has a fair few type combinations that have yet to be claimed one such pairing is with the rock type offensively these two would be super effective against flying ice fire and bug and they would be weak to grass ground steel water and really weak to fighting it's basically just a rock type that's immune to ghost since it resists flying fire poison and normal itself the best and maybe only way that I could see this happening is through fossil Pokemon my vote would be for a giant prehistoric sloth those things were no joke but if you wanted to you could have it be a saber-toothed tiger or a woolly rhino or whatever sort of antiquated mammal you'd wish to see brought back to life and of course normal has yet to be placed with the steel type as well basically looking at the stats it's hardly different from a pure steel type all of the strengths are the same with ice fairy and rock and none of the weaknesses change keeping the fire and ground the only difference is that fighting is now doubly effective it also still resists normal Rock ice flying dragon psychic steel grass bug and fairy the only difference being that it now has an immunity to ghosts to go with the one that it already had for poison honestly the steel type has a pretty decent trade-off when paired with normal so what's something that I wouldn't mind seeing the only problem is that it's hard to rationalize putting these two together at all the only possible way I could think of it working is for some pure normal pokémon to evolve and suddenly get some metal plating on parts of it sort of like excadrill maybe even being required to trade with a metal coat that'd be quite the nostalgic kick poison and normal is another pairing that has yet to be attempted and if they did the math on the offences I think I might know why since a blending of these two types would be only good against grass and faerie that's not great but maybe it could be more of a defensive artist since it would only be weak to psychic and ground and it resists grass poison bug and fairy so other might yet be hope and to me I maintain that the best way to handle putting poison with normal would be to make a porcupine Pokemon which we do not have yet I don't care what anyone else says we need a true porcupine that could sit out there in the field and soak up hits for days one pair that could be a big hit is poison and psychic a Pokemon that combined these two types could have an advantage over grass poison fairy and fighting on top of that they would only be weak to ground ghosts and dark while resisting caress poison theory and fighting which you probably could have guessed by looking at the offensive stats all things considered this could be a solid base for a Pokemon especially given the proper stats however actually designing one could prove more difficult than anticipated poison and psychic are more of those types that have nothing in common so finding a unifying form in which to embody these traits would be quite the undertaking I designed to this pairing once years ago and it was incredibly nondescript but it's the best I could do since there's not a specific animal that seems capable of fully encapsulating both types to satisfaction now we also have poison and fairy which is what dang it I always forget that eulerian wheezing is poison and fairy okay never mind well then lastly a combination of types that is objectively great is poison and steel this fascinating combination is strong against cress fairy rock and ice which is okay but just wait putting steel with poison makes it so that it would only be weak to fire and have a quad weakness to ground to weaknesses alone would be cause for celebration but it gets even better since this pairing resists normal Rock ice flying steel dragon with quad resistances to grass bug and fairy and has a poison immunity these two types don't care about well over half of potential enemies when I highlighted this pairing before some people suggested giving it the levitate ability to remove its times for weakness and have the only thing to stop it be fire that might be taking it a little too far but it could certainly have magnet rise however putting metal and poison together might not immediately flow into inspired design choices but once it gets rolling you could be surprised one might think of mercury if Melton hadn't already used it up but there are other options such as drawing inspiration from a pollution ridden plant that constantly pumps out contagions into the environment or personally I would just settle for a sort of gelled creature that has enormous poisonous spikes protruding out what I'm saying is there's no shortage of potential ways to rationalize these two types coming together so we should be getting one any day now so as of right now those are all of the unused type combinations in Pokemon which one would you most like to see let me know down in the comments also
