[Music] the love of christ proclaimed [Music] [Music] us christ the son of god [Music] the love of christ's proclaimed [Music] [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen the lord be with you and with your spirit calling to mind our sins we ask the lord for pardon and strength you were sent to heal the contrite of heart lord have mercy lord have mercy you came to call sinners christ have mercy christ have mercy you are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen glory to god in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king o god almighty father lord jesus christ only begotten son lord god lamb of god son of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us for you alone are the holy one you alone are the lord you alone are the most high jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen let us pray o god who founded all the commands of your sacred law upon love of you and of our neighbor grant that by keeping your precepts we may merit to attain eternal life through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever amen a reading from the book of wisdom [Music] the wicked say let us beset the just one because he is obnoxious to us he sets himself against our doings reproaches us for transgressions of the law and charges us with violations of our training [Music] let us see whether his words be true let us find out what will happen to him for if the just one be the son of god god will defend him and deliver him from the hand of his foes with revilement and torture let us put the just one to the test that we may have proof of his gentleness and try his patience let us condemn him to a shameful death for according to his own words god will take care of him the word of the lord [Music] [Music] oh god by your name save me and by your might defend my course o god hear my prayers [Music] the lord [Music] a reading from the letter of saint james beloved where jealousy and selfish ambition exist there is disorder and every foul practice but the wisdom from above is first of all pure then peaceable gentle compliant full of mercy and good fruits without inconstancy or in sincerity and the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace where do the wars and where do the conflicts among you come from is it not from your passions that make war within your members you covet but do not possess you kill an envy but you cannot obtain you fight and wage war [Music] you do not possess because you do not ask you ask but do not receive because you ask wrongly to spend on your passions the word of the lord [Music] [Music] god has called through the gospel to possess the glory of our lord jesus christ oh [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to mark [Music] jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through galilee but he did not wish anyone to know about it he was teaching his disciples and telling them the son of man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him and three days after his death the son of man will rise but they did not understand the saying and they were afraid to question him they came to capernaum and once inside the house he began to ask them what were you arguing about on the way but they remained silent they had been discussing among themselves on the way who was the greatest then he sat down called the twelve and said to them if anyone wishes to be first he shall be the last of all and the servant of all taking a child he placed it in their midst and putting his arms around it he said to them whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me and whoever receives me receives not me but the one who sent me the gospel of the lord this mass celebrated today takes place in the nation's capital which is a place of high politics and power it is a place where people come when they want to be near the seat of power and people come and they jockey for positions nearest those highest in authority this is clearly the antithesis of what god asks of us many years ago this same city was visited by a woman who came to speak of doing the exact opposite her name was mother teresa and today she is the saint of the catholic church and mother teresa understood that in order to be first in the kingdom with christ we have to be the last of all and the servant of all indeed mother teresa showed us the way by not wanting to be near persons of power but rather wanting to be with the poorest of the poor those who have no influence in any earthly realm but they who are closest to god because of their suffering because of their poverty god calls us by virtue of our baptism to be the last of all and to be the servant of all to follow in his way to follow him as the one we call the suffering servant we know that he who would live for us would die for us would rise for us would be still a servant may we follow in his path i believe in one god the father and almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glorious judge living in the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and his son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen dear friends in christ the suffering and death of jesus is a mystery of salvation let us ask the lord to give us a deeper faith and to more fully appreciate the meaning of suffering in our world for the leaders of the church may their faithfulness to our lord in the midst of betrayal and ridicule be assigned to all of the triumph of the resurrection we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for refugees from war-torn countries may they find the peace of christ in their homes and begin their lives anew leaving all bitterness and hatred behind we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for an openness to life within the sacrament of marriage and an increase in vocations to the priesthood religious life and the permanent diaconate we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for those who are sick and confined to their beds may their suffering be grace-filled as they unite their sorrows with those of jesus on the cross we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer father we offer our prayers and our sufferings to you we ask you to hear an at and answer them through christ our lord [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] you came to [Music] you lived your years [Music] [Music] and live [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father [Music] for our good and the good of all his holy church receive with favor o lord we pray the offerings of your people that what they profess with devotion and faith may be theirs through these heavenly mysteries through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you laid the foundations of the world and have arranged the changing of times and seasons you formed man in your own image and set humanity over the whole world in all its wonder to rule in your name over all you have made and forever praise you in your mighty works through christ our lord and so with all the angels we praise you as a joyful celebration we acclaim [Music] god of hosts heaven and earth [Music] is he who comes in the name of the lord [Music] you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith we proclaim [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks so you've held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope wilton our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ [Music] lord jesus christ who said your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always [Music] is [Music] is [Music] is [Music] behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed [Music] i will extol you my god and king i will bless your name forever and ever every day i will bless you and love of god and of his son our lord jesus christ amen and may the blessing almighty god the father the son and the holy spirit come down on you and remain with you forever amen go forth the mass would have ever have kept my son i wanted to either put him up for adoption or i was either going to have an abortion i was still in high school i was so scared i was so nervous but when i saw him my baby on the ultrasound and i heard his heart beat i remember just falling in love with it was a tiny little peanut that's when i'm like i want to keep him this is my child so i'm very grateful for getting the opportunity to have and see my son and just that changed my life completely thank you knights of columbus [Music] you
