"This seems like it'd be so stressful. You know you're 5 minutes in and oh my God if I screw up now..."
These guys don't speedrun.
If anyone hasn't seen it, the Psychonauts developers invited a speedrunner to perform with them in the same room and give tons of commentary. It's an older video and uses some outdated strats, but the devs' reactions are priceless, and they got basically all the lead devs from every department. Here's a link
I thought it was very interesting to see devs reacting to a speedrun of their own game and be so surprised with some mechanics and by the methods of speedrun itself, some of which are met with wonder by people outside of the community. I hope they do these kind of videos more often.
Interesting that even the devs didn't know why that one line of dialogue can't be skipped.
A few years ago. At an AGDQ I believe. The borderlands devs were present for a borderlands speed run. Was cool to hear dev stories and see how amazed they were at some of the tricks.
Kind of interesting. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on in the speedrun though. Would be cool to see for other games though!
Some random dude: "UGH! This isn't how the devs intended you to play!"
The actual devs: "Huh, how fascinating. Pretty neat actually."
Would love a whole sub or youtube channel of these types of videos
Haha I love this, you can hear their minds being blown. This is also so cool to hear the developers watch a speedrun of their own game, I wish more devs would do this!
