hey guys James again with tfbtv and I've got a review for you today of the brand new Smith & Wesson M&P nine she lo I'm already going to tell you don't watch the video it's boring because I love this gun I bought it I'm just gonna be saying good things about it well actually I've got one bad thing to say about it and I'm just gonna go ahead and lead in with that the got sights were off whenever I got it from the factory so the gun was shooting a little bit to the left the factory night sights that came on this gun were visibly askew whenever i received them but other than that this gun has been awesome so let's talk about the Smith & Wesson shield generally then I'll tell you about the changes from the 2.0 over the 1.0 with the Smith & Wesson shield you're talking about a polymer framed single stack 9-millimeter pistol it's got a 3.1 inch barrel the M&P shield is 0.95 inches thick which is right in the middle of the pack you've got the Glock 43 which is about one inch thick and you've got the car PM 9 CM 9 series which are point 9 inches thick frankly you really won't be able to tell the difference between the point 9 and the 1 inch thick guns but this one falls right in the middle of the pack there it only weighs a slim 18.3 ounces it's almost a pocket gun it's 6 inches long and 4.6 inches tall if you've been looking at the Glock 43 I've got another video it may have run already it might run in the future but I've got the Glock 43 versus the 2.0 the long and short of it is the main difference in terms of dimensions the Glock 43 is about an ounce lighter and about 4/10 of an inch shorter because it's a 6 plus 1 instead of a 7 plus 1 now the shield as I said you get 7 rounds of 9-millimeter in the magazine plus one in the chamber and that's normal for a single stack 9-millimeter it also comes packaged with an additional magazine that is an eight plus one it adds a small grip extension it's a little bit longer and you get an additional round historically have been a little bit wary about using grip extensions because at a certain point you're blurring the lines between a single stack nine-millimeter that's used for for deep carry and a subcompact double stack nine-millimeter where you can get 10 or 12 plus 1 rounds and it's not really going to be much bigger but I leave that to your discretion the Smith & Wesson M&P wine generally and the shield itself are known as being very reliable guns I like that it also has the entire M&P line a very durable coating it's a mellow night finish or at least similar to a mellow night finish that is an impregnated coating and I've carried the M&P series of guns including the shield for years now sweat all over them gotten them wet gotten them dirty and I've never seen any rust form on the coating of these guns so you're looking at an outstanding finish and while the trigger out of the box is really nothing to write home about there are a lot of options especially including the wildly popular apex triggers that you can install on your shield Smith & Wesson come on guys I'm begging you to collaborate with apex it would be really cool to be able to buy a shield and out of the box have an apex trigger because that's what most people are doing to them nowadays anyways talking about the trigger you're looking at around a seven and a half pound trigger pole on the shield 1.0 and for the shield 2.0 you're talking about a six and a half pound trigger that's actually much better in my opinion it's a lot more crisp you have a little bit of take up and then just six and a half pounds of pressure to put you over the wall to the break on the 2.0 vs. the 1.0 now while i'm talking about the differences between the 2.0 and the 1.0 the 2.0 has in my opinion one of the best grip textures on the market today it has it's almost like a skateboard tape texture you can see here extremely grippy you also get forward slide serrations they're very small but you get forward slide serrations on the 2.0 shield versus the 1.0 but at least at the time of filming there's about $100 price difference when I'm filming this this is a brand new gun this just came out maybe a week or two ago and it's I'm seeing it for around 400 bucks where you can get them well you can get the 1.0 for around 300 bucks now certainly the 2.0 is introduction probably depress the value of the 1.0 a little bit and the 2.0 being a little bit hot it's going to command a bit of a premium right now I think you're gonna see prices normalize over the coming months the shield series of pistols very simple you're talking around 30 parts and that no doubt contributes to the reliability takedown is very easy magazine out slide lock back you've got a Sig style takedown lever you just flip it 90 degrees slide comes forward it all comes off the M&P series has possibly the best set of sites that you can get on the market today out of the box these are as you can see low profile low snag Novak style three dot sights and they're metal the Glock 43 you're gonna get plastic sights out of the box and with any other subcompact single stack 9-millimeter pistol most of them are going to have plastic sites or sites that aren't as good as these low profile no snag sites that are designed specifically not to grab onto your clothing or snag on your pocket as far as the ergos go the shield series and especially the 2.0 with the new grip texture one of the best out there an eminently suitable gun whenever you present it you're on target there are a lot of guns that you get the grip angle might be a little off so you might be aiming a little high from your natural point of aim or a little low this one your straight and level with your natural point of aim whenever you present the gun recoil is manageable because you're not dangling a pinky most people can get a full grip on the pistol grip in my opinion the mmp9 shield has better slide serrations the mmp-9 shield has what I call serrated serrations it's these wavy serrations that work very well at the rear of the gun they're very subtle index finger and thumb shelves on the left and right side of the grip the controls are easy to get to with your thumb and keeping your dominant hand on the gun you can see magazine Lisa's right there slide releases right there a brief word about the slide release when I got this gun brand new out of the box the slide release was very rigid and I would have to go over the top to charge the gun in between mag changes agents in fear it started to smooth out a little bit and I'm sure it's going to get a lot more loose in the future but I got a say out of the box that was a concern the triggers comparable to say a Glock 43 you're looking at about six and a half pounds but that's also heavier than the say bersa bp9cc which has about a four pound trigger in my opinion six to six and a half pounds of trigger pull weight is the perfect amount of weight for a carry gun anything heavier and you're going to sacrifice accuracy anything lighter and you might shoot yourself in the leg or dick depending on where you like to carry your gun so I think that the six and a half pounds for the shield or the Glock 43 is just about perfect so you guys that watch this whole video I warned you told you it was going to be very boring I don't have a lot of negative things to say about the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 to point oh really the question is is it worth paying a hundred bucks for the 2.0 over the 1.0 at this point I say maybe I think those prices are going to get a little bit closer together but think about it is it worth 100 bucks to you to have some forward slide serrations which i think is the least important new feature a little bit techie ER grip which I like a lot and a trigger that's about a pound lighter well if you're gonna switch to the apex trigger anyways maybe you just go ahead and go with the 1.0 but if you're not gonna screw with it out of the box maybe you should look at the 2.0 what do you think pretty good a little snappy but uh hey have you shot the one point oh yeah yeah I don't really perceive any real difference in it to be honest with you but uh you know yeah look at the one point oh look at the two point oh whatever floats your boat but either way you can't go wrong in any event I want to say thank you guys so much we're coming up on three years
