hey guys it's an alien from hotter Texas armory and today I want to do a video overview and review of this really cool handgun you see in front which is the new Smith & Wesson M&P SHIELD 2.0 and this one does have the Crimson Trace laser on there which is a really nice feature to have on a carry piece so Smith & Wesson has had the shield series for a while now and it's an excellent handgun it's in fact it's I feel it's definitely one of the best out there in this category of concealed carry Nine's but they they've they've been updating their nmp series here over the last year or so to the 2.0 and with those they've made quite a few changes they first came out with the full size 2.0 M&P and then recently they've come out with the M&P compact 2.0 which that one is going to be the Glock 19 size just so you kind of have a comparison on size and that one replaced this one which is my carry piece which is the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 C so this one was always a little smaller has shorter grips or getting it quite as many rounds the the new MMP compact is is a really good size so it's got slightly longer grip to carry more rounds I believe it's a 15-round magazine with that whereas my MP 9 C is a 12 round but with the shield series they recently came out with this and you know they the main things that they've upgraded with the 2.0 I'd say there's really three key upgrades that they've done now there are some other upgrades but I'm just going to focus on these three that I feel are the best so let me quickly safety check this weapon for you guys so we'll drop the magazine nothing in the magazine or this one nothing in this slide so the first thing that I'll mention is that they've improved the frame texture the stippling here so it's much more aggressive so if you compare it with say my mmp9 see you can see that they've really stepped up the grip pattern much more aggressive much better grip which is very important on this small handgun the same is you know single stack handgun there's a little bit of there's quite a bit of recoil with this so it's a benefit to have that improve grip so with this grip I really don't see a need for the Talon grips with the new 2.0 s so that was an excellent upgrade that they upgraded the stippling there on the frame they've also added front serrations here so Smith & Wesson M&P s always have had these really awesome scallops you know serrations here some people call them the fish scales which is easy to see why very grippy just but not only that they look cool I really like that serration pattern that Smith & Wesson came out with this MMP series but you can see here at the front they've now added the front serrations and that's always a benefit you know for press checks so now you can grab on here and draw the slide back a lot easier to check to make sure you have a round in the chamber now you could always use this peephole here to see if you had a round in the chamber as well but you know that it's nice that Smith & Wesson unlike some other companies that recently came out with the June 5 I won't name the name but they they neglected to put front serrations you know maybe it's not that useful of a feature but the the public kind of wants that and I'm happy to see that Smith & Wesson listens to their customers and they went ahead and put those on there and they're not overdone done they're just small little serrations here just enough just enough to give you some better grip and I think it's very well-thought-out and of course it's on both sides the serrations so that's another cool upgrade that they did on this now the biggest upgrade that they did is that they've improved the trigger so you've got the new 2.0 trigger and all the 2.0 guns and what they did on that is that they've they did a couple key things they've improved the trigger pool so the poundage is going to stay about the same which is around five and a half to six pounds depending on you know where your grabbing on the trigger I get to break you know in between five and a half and six pounds consistently so that the the actual pool weight is basically the same as the original shield but the pool is a lot smoother they got rid of a lot of the grit that the original shield had that was one of the biggest complaints out of the box those original shields just that the actual trigger break was fine it was it was just the travel was greedy so they've gotten away with that and we'll pull the trigger here in a little bit and show you that and then another upgrade on the trigger that they've done is you can see right here they've added a an over travel piece of polymer right there in the trigger guard so that's going to prevent the trigger from having over travel so that was a good upgrade and then they also in Crete improve the reset so the shield's always had a pretty audible and tactile reset but they've improved it you know even even more than then that one had with this V 2.0 so it's gonna have a very audible tactile and precise preset which is very important so compared to my 9c which will check this is safe to you I'll just go ahead and drop the magazine nothing this chamber you probably won't even hear this but I've put quite a few rounds through this this handgun but let's listen to the break here and you can watch how the trigger works so you got that hinge I'll pull it back I hit a wall now watch carefully you see how it had a little a little bit of a wall there yeah a little at travel once you get that wall now let's listen for the reset this is the biggest complaint with the original Smith & Wesson M&P trigger so let's listen to see if you can hear it very very faint sound but you did reset and now you could fire again it's not a bad trigger but that reset is something that people just always complain about with the with the with the MMP series of handguns and Smith Wesson has been upgrading that for a while now so the shield let's take a look at it so once again we'll drop the magazine here nothing that chamber so let's watch the trigger here so same hinge pattern very smooth a little bit of take-up and then watch I hit the wall and it just breaks this absolutely crisp much less travel once you hit that wall it's just a very precise trigger now let's listen to that reset did you hear the difference I mean it's it's quite a quite a bit louder and you can actually feel it in your finger so let's try that again so I'll release it I hit the wall and it's just a crisp break and that stopped you see right there that oval travel this makes that trigger just feel better this is just very precise analysis and that reset one more time here nicely done so that's a pretty good upgrade there that the triggers definitely improved over over the even the original shields so I think that's this trigger now in my opinion is good enough that you really don't need to get an aftermarket trigger in your shield anymore you know apex makes a really nice trigger for this and if you didn't want to spend the money on it you could but I don't think it's necessary anymore the only thing I would you know only time I recommend that you upgrade your triggers maybe you just don't like this hinge here different from like the Glock which has the little dingus lever on the front of the trigger of this one it's got the hinge here so you do have to hold lower on the trigger if you grab up here you're not gonna get that trigger to actuate so you've got to rotate that first which if you see a little lever right in there you see how it's moving when I rotate that little bottom hinge that has to be to move inside the trigger here to allow it to go inside the frame so that would be only time I would say you would need to upgrade this triggers if you just don't like that hinge to meet it doesn't bother me this is not a precision handgun this is a concealed carry piece I think this trigger is excellent now so awesome job on that trigger 2.0 triggers Smith & Wesson so you can see this has the laser which is actuated with that button there or on this side they both the same thing so you've to turn it on I'll to use my finger here so I push it and you'll see the laser very bright you push it once it's just a constant beam you push it again and you get the strobe and then push it one more time it turns off very easy works really good they provide you the tools to adjust it of course it comes in the box so a really good deal on this too so if you want one of these just with this laser they recently just came available so contact me I'll give you a good price that's Neal at heart of Texas Armory but it's it's a really good deal buying it as a combo you know like this I mean it's it surprised me how how good of a deal that was so if you're interested in getting a laser I definitely suggest you getting it from Smith & Wesson in this configuration which the laser is Crimson Trace laser that's the brand which is a very good brand for lasers so the laser is a good feature this particular model has the safety so you have a little side side mounted frame mounted safety here works really easy excellent design easy to turn on and off but it's not big and bulky see how thin it is to the frame so I really like that well-thought-out one of the best safeties you can get in a concealed carry piece and it's it's not like loose I mean it takes a little bit of force and you can do it because it's got good texture on it but you could actually just leave it like this and with the safety off and if you train I mean I don't think you'd ever turn that safety on it's it takes a good bit of force to turn it on but anyway it's it's an excellent safety if you want a safety on a concealed carry piece this is this is a definitely a good one to go with the sights on this are excellent so you got just three dot sights there's steel sights there's no polymer sights on this so this is a really good quality sight from Smith & Wesson from the factory and there's of course tons of aftermarket ones if you want to get night night sights or something with tritium or something like that there's tons of options for the him appease now so easy to change out its drift adjustable of course and your front one as well as in a dovetail so well done this is another example of how the shield is out locking Glock you know that sites out of the box infinitely better than Glocks you know I love the the Glock handguns excellent handgun but they've there's some areas that this shield is just beating it and beating it quite easily the dimensions are really nice the weight on its is nice and light you're looking at about 20 ounces and I'll have a pop up pop it up right now with the dimensions of this handgun instead of me just you know telling you here I'll just have a text box pop up with all the dimensions but if I will say that it's very compact its comparable with other compact handguns on the market you can get this in nine-millimeter which is what this is or 40 Smith & Wesson - and they also have a 45 version of the shield as well so an excellent handgun another cool thing about this is the disassembly on this is very well done so you know with Smith & Wesson's all you have to do is just lock the slide back here alright and then you have disassembly lever so you rotate that down now it's pretty stiff because it's brand new gun so let me use this angle here so we'll flip that down now you have two things you can do you can inside here there's a little lever I don't know if it's gonna show up on camera here I'd have to get a light you kind of cuts a gleam right in there there's a little bit of metal you can see kind of flashing you can actually stick like a punch or something in there to flip that down and then you don't have to drop the the trigger to disassemble or fire the trigger excuse me to drop the safety that's what that does is it disables the safety kind of drops it safely but me I don't care about pulling the trigger I know this gun is safe in this you know I checked it double-checked it so there's no rounds in here so once you have that lever down you pull the trigger the slide comes right off so piece of cake you see the construction of it's well done you have steel reinforcement lugs here steel back here everything is just well done on the Smith & Wesson M&P series say they've really designed a really good striker fire weapon here so you see how the trigger bar works they're very smooth there's your sear surface just very well thought out your slide here of course just like any other modern handgun you just pull your recoil spring out here it's captured which is nice and your barrel come right out for clean so extremely easy and it's also easy to take the slide apart further if you needed to do some detailed cleaning inside the striker assembly and then of course you just put it back in just the reverse order so your barrel goes and put your captured recoil spring back in line up your grooves here and then lock it back lock it back and then flip this back down function check reset safety fire reset you're good so excellent design on that - it's not quite as easy as a Glock but it's it's close another cool thing is they give you two magazines with this so you get the eight round magazine and a seven rounder which is flush fit the eight rounder has the extension here which is also stippled which is nice and the magazine Smith & Wesson magazines are always excellent quality sustainless steel magazine that he reliably the only negative is they're kind of pricey if you have to buy additional ones but they do give you - which is nice and also the magazines do drop free which I'll show you real quick here so we lock it in push the button maybe they fire right out so they're extremely drop they drop three really good your magazine release is ambidextrous you can swap that over if you need to and it's also apparently been reinforced I don't I looked at I didn't really see a difference between the original shield but Smith the recent Smith & Wesson says it is upgraded and reinforced all I'll take their word for it but overall man this is just an excellent concealed carry piece it's one of the best in the market right now they're competitively priced so you don't have to spend a whole lot of money to get one and you get something that's made in America some American company and Smith & Wesson is is they they really give you a really excellent product and I really like this 2.0 series the upgrades they made are well worth it in my opinion I wouldn't if you already own a shield or original one like me like this here 9c you know it's not necessary to upgrade there's nothing truly groundbreaking but if you're in the market I would say definitely go with the 2.0 over there the original those the triggers is well worth it in like administrations and they aggressive texturing on the frame but once again this is Neil and Hart X's armoring I hope you enjoyed this video overview and review if you have any questions on this just leave them down below I'll do my best to answer it and y'all take care our national you
