[Music] welcome to getting outdoors with Mike and Yvonne for out in about mid-february out in the Carolinas a little after hunting season still a little cold but it's a little warm and muggy today a lot of rain wet outside we figured we'd come down to the shooting range and we would do an unboxing review and a shooting review of the Smith & Wesson M&P shield the nine-millimeter 2.0 um just want to let you know we have used this pistol yet we have it shot it you're gonna see firsthand how it shoots today at the first time with us so come on over and we'll do an unboxing Carney guys like I said earlier earlier this is the Smith & Wesson M&P shield in nine-millimeter great thing made in USA that's very important god Bless America inside of the box we got this gun on sale at Sports Academy and you always want to keep your receipt because you'll need it for your registration and all done on the box so I'll blow away the pistol comes in a plastic bag there is no hard case there's no holsters that comes with it at this time comes with the I'm not sure what you call this but it basically shows that the gun is empty it comes with that inside the gun it comes with two magazines it has the first magazine which is a seven round that fits flush on the bottom and then it has the eight rounds it has the extended grip on the bottom of it comes with a gun lock you always want to be safe with your firearm it'll have your registration paper and then also your safety an instruction manual make sure you do look over your manual get to know the actual functions of the gun where the safeties are located load indicators things like that how to clean your weapon that shows you how to take it apart we'll do another review on that here and a little bit set in the box off to the side let's look at the gun the gun itself there was an original version put out quite a few years ago and the changes in this gun and I'm going to go ahead and for everybody's sake I'll show that the clip was empty and we're going to show that it's empty here the gun itself went through a couple of improvements one the 2.0 they put an enhanced grip on it they changed the grip design and made it a little more ergonomic to hang on to also what they did with the 2.0 is they enhance the trigger so it has a lighter trigger pull now looking forward to shooting this gun it's a real thin gun the gun only weighs eighteen point three ounces it has the thumb safety on the back which is important because when you put this gun in your pocket when you go to get it out sometimes your your finger will get around that trigger and that's why I wanted to make sure I carried a pocket gun that had a ulterior safety on it other than the trigger so this gun is typically about 429 I think it lists for $4.99 on the Smith & Wesson website we purchase it from Sports Academy on sale for 399 so I look forward to putting some downrange with it this morning and let you see how it operates so let's let's load it up the thing that I've heard about these magazines as they get a little tough and I don't know if it's the typical Smith & Wesson style I don't know if the springs have to be that tough in order to get it to function that didn't seem too bad not bad at all loading that one let's try the eight and it may be once the springs get used a little bit maybe that will wear in a little bit but they are very strong they do recommend a speed loader and hopefully we can get this video done before it starts raining again it's starting to cloud up quite a bit or there's hate in that one alrighty so we're going to try the small grip first the clip itself when it goes in it's a little bit tight at the back so you have to make sure you push it in and you hear the click I'm told but watching other videos when the accent is open and it runs out of shells it actually goes in really easy for you to load the second clip but we'll find that out when we go downrange okay all right alrighty guys before we take the M&P shield downrange we're actually applying just a little bit of all to the rail into the interior of the gun I think it's always good to keep a weapon wet [Applause] so what we're gonna do first is we're actually going to shoot it up close a few yards away to see hot places on the target then we're going to take it down and shoot it at some steel so let's uh let's load up the extended clip first like I said earlier it's uh a little tight to get in there make sure it's click down we've cycled around in our we are hot and notice with the thumb safety on when I go to pull the trigger it will not pull so you always want to test your safeties you always want to make sure you understand how the gun operates you want to do that even before you load it all right so safety is off we're going to see how it's performing here for its first shot quite an accurate little gun if you'll notice on the target itself it started shooting a little bit low at first but as I begin to realize how the gun operates I was able to pull it up and hit my target fairly well so I'm very happy with very happy with the gun the way it shoots what I like about it is it's a 9-millimeter weapon but it's a small frame but it doesn't give you it doesn't recall the back into your hand a lot of times a thinner gun with a smaller grip will actually start to go back into the palm of your hand there but when you grip it you grip it to the front and to the back it has a good feel to it I may put the night sights on it later but first time shooting and I really like it it's not a lot of recall that it handles it's uh it's a power very well so let's reload the clip and we'll walk on down to the steel and see if we can ping some steel for you good day it's a little wet here been raining all night let's go down and check out see how it does as with all steel targets you want to be at least ten yards from your steel when you shoot that's what this painted line on this tree is for everybody it shoots that way we know we can't get no closer alright so this time I want to use the regular magazine the seven round in the shield we're hot all righty let's see how she does on the steel here very good all right we're gonna notice this time and watch this notice this time the clip falls right into place so if you were in a self-defense situation and the action was already open it would explode easy so clip went in very very great that time alright let's give her another round here very nice alrighty if you want a a smaller compact 9-millimeter I think the Smith & Wesson shield is a good choice go by go by your local shooting range try one out today I think you'll be happy with the way it shoots so I look forward to shooting this gun a little bit more maybe customizing it maybe put some little stick grips on it something like that maybe some night sights so hope you enjoyed our video today like and subscribe to our channel that way you get all of our updates and all of our videos you just don't never know what we're going to be doing but it's always a good day when you get to put gunpowder downrange
