hey guys James again with tfbtv and I've got the fifth generation Glock 26 and a review that's probably gonna piss everybody off why because Glock haters are gonna be mad when I say that I love this gun and I think it might be the best subcompact double-stack 9-millimeter on the market while Glock fanboys might be pissed off at me when I tell you why maybe you shouldn't buy it the Glock 26 subcompact double-stack 10 rounds plus one of 9 millimeter in a subcompact package now before we get to the changes to the Gen 5 Glock 26 let me take you by your little hand and walk you through a history of the Glock 26 the Glock 26 was introduced in 1994 around that time about the best you could do was maybe a five or a six plus one small frame revolver so to get a reliable subcompact 9-millimeter is pretty revolutionary in 1994 when the Glock 26 was introduced block adored even making its Gen 2 guns and was about to introduce the Gen 3 guns in 1999 well they refer to the Glock 26 the original as a Gen two-and-a-half and I hate to say this but it was almost perfect whenever it was first produced the Glock 26 had finger grooves whenever it was first introduced and Gen 2 bucks did not have finger grooves those were later introduced in 1999 with the Gen 3 Glock and then they were eventually omitted again in 2017 with the introduction of the Gen 5 o'clock it also had a double recoil spring it was the only Glock to have a double recoil spring until the generation 4 Glocks were introduced in 2010 it also had a beveled slide and frame towards the muzzle and it was the only Glock to have a beveled sliding frame until the Gen 5 Glocks again in 2017 so in many ways the Glock 26 was way ahead of the curve whenever it was introduced back in 94 so that's why I say the Glock 26 was almost perfect when it was introduced it hasn't needed a lot of changes because it was pretty good when it was first introduced with the upgrade to the Gen 4 you saw the reversible and larger magazine release you saw removable back straps for the grip and addition of the rough texture frame you can see there's not a whole hell of a lot of difference between the Gen 4 Glock 26 and the June 5 Glock 26 you have the RTF on both but you're of course missing the finger groove on the Jetta you've got the smooth trigger on the genocide versus the rough trigger on the Gen 4 Glock 26 and the marksman barrel and the DLC slide coating as opposed to the tenifer on the Gen 4 Glock 26 you can see here that the Gen 5 is the only one that comes with the fully ambi slide release from the factory you can also see that there are some changes that the Glock 26 didn't inherit when it got to the fifth generation including the bevel and flared magazine oil that you see in this Gen 5 Glock 19 it's pretty obvious that the beveled and flared magwell wouldn't translate well to the Glock 26 which is designed to be slim and compact the 26 is also missing the scalloped cutout at the bottom of the frame which presumably would eat up a lot of real estate on the already short Glock 26 grip and as I mentioned at the beginning of the video the Gen 5 Glock 19 and 17 got a beveled slide presumably to make it easier to holster and the Glock 26 has always had this from Gen two-and-a-half on and now we sit here with the Gen 5 Glock 26 and as far as I can tell the only major changes have been the addition of the marksman barrel the DLC coded slide and the ambidextrous quadrants it's still maintained same rough texture frame as the Gen 4 - the finger groove it removed that and you still have the same reversible magazine release thus in total I think the Glock 26 had to have been the least changed pistol down the line and that's why I say it was almost perfect already when it was introduced so looking at your specs in a nutshell you're looking at an overall length of six point four one inches a height of four point one seven inches a width of only one point one eight inches site radius of five point four inches an unloaded weight of twenty one point seven ounces and a three point four inch long barrel you've also got a ten plus one capacity in the flush fit magazine but of course you can use the 15 round magazines from the Glock 19 or any larger factory or aftermarket magazine like this mag poll twenty one round magazine as far as shooting performance goes if you're familiar with Glock 26 or Glock generally it is what it is that's what you're getting is Glock performance if you're not familiar with Glock performance then what you're getting is a trigger it's not the best it's not the worst but it breaks at about five and a half pounds after a very short amount of take-up but if you don't like the trigger fortunately Glock might have the most options out there in terms of aftermarket triggers and even like three and a half pound connectors from the factory if you want to go that route speaking of options the Glock 26 as package comes with the standard I call them ball and basket sights but for an extra $50 up charge you get Glock night sights and for an extra $100 up charge you can get the Amerigo contrast sights which is new to the Gen 5 and something that I've come to like very much the 26 despite being a subcompact 9-millimeter very manageable 9 millimeter of course is imminently tolerable and it works well in even a small package like this you can see a lot of people are dangling pinkies they can't get a full grip on the Glock 26 but you also do have the option to put extended magazine and there are a lot of manufacturers making extensions rip extensions you can even extend out like plus one plus two extensions for your 10 round Glock 26 magazines reloading is a little bit slower than you might like but that's just by virtue of the fact that this is a subcompact nine-millimeter it's not anything blocks doing in particular you're just dealing with a stumpy little mag and trying to put it in a stumpy little butt but at least you get back on the trigger faster because you've got the ambidextrous slide release which is new again to the Gen 5 in summary as far as performance goes for a subcompact 9-millimeter it performs very well it's accurate follow-up shots are reasonable the sights out of the box are pretty good love the texture on the grip I can take or leave the addition/subtraction of the finger grooves it really doesn't make that much of a difference to me I've always loved the new gen 4 and Gen 5 magazine release and I like the addition of the ambidextrous slide release however you look out for holster compatibility issues because this may not work with some really tight gen 3 and Gen 4 holsters I get a lot of crap on this channel for being a Glock fanboy and all copped to it I really like the way Glocks perform just right out of the box and there are a lot of people out there that you know they make a joke they say oh a Glock perfection huh you know perfection after you add aftermarket sights after you add an aftermarket trigger and you guys have to remember this was one of the first double stack sub compacts on the market it's been around since 94 ever since Zack was chasing Kelly so it's got a heritage of reliability and performance and you can't go wrong with whatever generation you ultimately decide on you're looking at an MSRP of $6.99 but I think street price in these is going to be in the low to mid $500 range they're going to be released in January 22nd so I've owned a gen 3 Gen 4 and agenda like 26 I thought the Gen 4 upgrade was worth it because I like the larger magazine release I like the rough texture frame and to me that was worth the upgrade really the only upgrade in the Gen 5 26 that I care all that much about is the ambidextrous slide release and I'm right-handed so I can take it or leave it so for me I'm not sure that I would upgrade to the Gen 5 and fiber the average consumer since I'm a tremendous clock fanboy of course I'm going to be upgrading to the Gen 5 just because but that said if you're sitting on a Gen 4 and if you're right-handed and you're happy with it maybe you want to stick with it but I also feel like it's the best double stack subcompact on the market right now because it's got this long heritage of solid performance it was pretty much perfect whenever it came out but it's had some subsequent additions that I haven't actually made it somewhat better but I'm also saying maybe some people shouldn't buy it because if you've got a gen 3 or a Gen 4 Glock 26 you like already you really have to ask yourself do you really need to step up to the Gen 5 and I would guess that for most of you that answer would be no now there's no question if you have a gen 3 and if you're a lefty then you might want to look at the Gen 4 the Gen 5 but if you already have a Gen 4 and you love it I'm not saying that you should run to the pawn shop hokku Gen 4 to go pick up the newest and hottest Gen 5 there are some upgrades you are getting the DLC slide you are getting the marksmen barrel but again we're talking about a stubby little subcompact so how much barrel performance do you really need beyond what you get from the polygonal rifling and the gen 3 and the Gen 4 you get the ambi slide release and you get the omission of the finger groove so if that's a big deal to you then by all means I strongly suggest that you go ahead and pick up the Gen 5 glock 26 because again I do feel like it's the best double stack subcompact on the market today I hope that made sense I know everybody's mad at me now Glock fanboys mad at me Glock haters mad at me that's okay because I'm just glad you're watching so I want to say thank you as usual to our sponsors benter munitions I've seen some great Glock 26 deals on proxy bed our other sponsor I want to say thank you to Glock for sending me this Glock 26 in advance of its release date it's coming out in January 22nd and thank you again for watching I
