1999 police in lahore pakistan were alerted to a package that had arrived at their office they opened this package and inside they found a diary and a bunch of photographs and as they started to read this diary they quickly discovered that this was a confession a 32-page long criminal confession from one of the worst serial killers the country had ever seen this anonymous writer was claiming to have raped and murdered exactly a hundred boys over the last year a year and a half in such a short space of time the writers said that their victims were usually homeless or runaway young boys that he just stumbled across on the streets of lahore just kids that were living on the side of the streets they also said that all of the boys had been between the ages of 6 and 16. he would lure them in and then proceed to sexually assault them now this process could last anywhere from one hour to sometimes months he would keep them in his captivity to repeatedly sexually assault them until he was done with them and when he was this diary then said that the man would strangle his victims to death he would then dispose of their bodies in horrific ways as well as this diary in the package that police received there was a note that said if you want to know more about what i'm talking about in this diary go down to this address and you'll find proof so police ran this address on the system to see who the property belonged to her and that was when they found that it belonged to a very wealthy businessman named mr jarved iqbal javid iqbal magal was born in 1956 in lahore pakistan he was the sixth child to a very very wealthy family his father worked incredibly hard to provide the family with the money that they had like yes they were very wealthy but his father was making himself ill over it like sometimes he would work 24-hour shifts on as little as two hours sleep and he did this because he wanted to give all of his children the absolute best life that he possibly could that meant sending them to private school making sure that they had like a trust fund making sure that their university fees appeared for well in advance he was working to provide for his kids javed and all of his siblings were all sent to like really prestigious private schools and they pretty much got everything that they asked for as kids they were very privileged and they kind of had everything just laid out for them handed to them he went off to a great university after he graduated from his private school and then graduated from university and soon javed himself was a very wealthy young professional that was making his way in the business world and when he did become an adult and he graduated from university his father told him that he was gonna buy him two houses he was gonna get these two houses and he could do whatever he wanted with both of them basically the idea was that he should live in one and then the other one he should use to kind of set himself up a business or you know his father wanted him to just utilize the second space i suppose so javed gets given these two massive villas they were huge he decided to live in the bigger one of the two and in the other one he set up a steel recasting business and now that he was in his 20s javed's mother and father started to bother him about his future and like getting a wife when's he gonna settle down and have kids and give them grandchildren but jarvid just didn't seem interested in this right now i mean it just started his business he just wasn't interested in dating at all and eventually it got to the point where javed's parents even started threatening arranged marriage and javed completely broke down at even the thought of this he begged them for one last chance to just find his own bride if they gave him one more chance he would put more effort in he would go and find a girl he even threatened them that if they didn't let him find his own bride then he would take his own life and so his parents said fine okay you have one more chance go out and find yourself a wife but a couple of months before this so before all this arranged marriage thing even went on jarvid had met a homeless boy on the streets of lahore like a child i don't know how old the child was i'm assuming maybe about six or seven so jared met this homeless boy on the streets of lahore and he felt so bad for this boy that he brought him back home to this new villa that he had and he clothed this boy he let him live with him and he just essentially adopted the boy so this boy had been living with him for a few months at this point and then his parents all of a sudden are starting to threaten arranged marriage he needs to find a wife and that was when he remembered that this homeless boy that he took in a couple of months ago had an older sister that was also living on the streets and so he spoke with his new uh little homeless friend and he was saying you know where's your sister can i can i go and meet her i want you to introduce me to her so the boy takes javed to his sister introduces the two of them and quickly javed decides that this is the woman he's gonna marry he's gonna marry this random girl that he met ten minutes ago and this girl even though she didn't know jarved she was willing to go into this marriage because he was a very wealthy man and she was homeless and so she was doing this just for survival really but why was javed doing it why did jarvid want the sister of this little homeless boy perhaps he was marrying this boy's sister in an attempt to lock the boy into his life you know if he's family then this boy can't leave him javed and his new bride actually ended up having a child although they quickly split up after that child was born i don't know why i don't know what happened in the marriage but you can see from the way that it started that it clearly wasn't a marriage based on love so i presume something got in the way so now javed was single again he was in his 30s at this point and as it was approaching the 1990s his family really started to notice some sinister goings-on in javed's home life one day one of his family members went round to his house and very suddenly realized that he no longer had just the one homeless boy living with him there were now like six or seven of them in his home living with this 30 something year old man all these very young very vulnerable very disadvantaged very desperate children that are just wanting to survive are being lured in and groomed by this man so as soon as his family make this discovery it's very unnerving of course but it wouldn't be long until jarvid was accused of his very first crime and that was the rape and sodomy of one of these children that he lived with and absolutely heinous crime by anyone's standards that's absolutely vile and as soon as all the townspeople found out about this they felt the exact same way they wanted revenge against javed for what he'd done to that child that poor innocent vulnerable child and so the townspeople went looking for him they were gonna get revenge on this man that had abused this child so all the townspeople go out looking for java they go to his house they knock on the door but he's not there but who did they find about six or seven other children but anyway because they couldn't find javid himself they then went down to his family home but again when they knocked on the dog there was no one there but the townspeople were just so angry and frustrated and they wanted to take out this anger on jarved or his family or at least something that represents them and so they started attacking the house they started vandalizing the whole thing until they got some news one of the townspeople had managed to find out where javed's father and his brother were hiding out and that was at javed's father's shop and so they all went down there all these townspeople to go and target javed's family when they arrived this angry mob of people just flooded straight into the shop they beat up javed's father and his brother and then they threw them in a rickshaw which is a bit like a like a cart like a carriage thing anyway to transport them and they took them to the police station and it was when they were brought to the police station that javed's family were told about what their loved one had been charged with the sodomy and rape of a child immediately his father and his brother try to deny everything they're saying no javid's not that kind of person he wouldn't do anything like that but the police said that they had proof they had evidence but right now the police didn't actually know where javed iqbal was they knew he was a very dangerous man clearly but where was he and at this point in the case to be fair police didn't know who was involved who knew anything and so just to be on the safe side they took javed's father and his brother and just threw him in police custody for a while until they found jarved until they could like make sense of this case a bit more his family insisted that they were innocent and that they had no idea that he even had that side to him they had no idea that he was doing that to children apparently javed's father was really quite heartbroken when he found out what his son had done he was he was really disappointed that his son had turned out that way he was ashamed that that was his son because that was the thing really javed's father seemed to be more upset about the damage to their reputation than he was about his son's victim he felt sorry for himself and his family not for the victim of his son's crime later that night jarvid's mother found out about this whole thing that her husband and one of her sons is in custody while they find her other son who's a criminal and she was very much on the side of the police she was disgusted in her son for doing what he'd done and she wanted to help them catch him and so she went down to javed's house to see if she could speak to him or you know maybe even speak to one of the boys that he lived with and that was when she arrived and she was greeted by a 13 year old boy claiming that he'd lived there with jarvid for months and that was when his mother got an idea because javed was clearly doing something illegal having this young boy at his house we can probably imagine what was going on behind claire's doors but whatever was happening it was very much illegal and javad's mother thought that if she was to take this 13 year old boy and took him to the police station handed him in essentially and said look this is one of my son's victims then maybe javid would hear about this and come out of the woodwork maybe he would make an appearance and it worked as soon as he found out that his mother had taken this 13 year old boy that he lived with to the police javid came out because he wanted to have a go at his mother he did he returned to his mother he started having a go at her but the police were there and they arrested javed iqbal for what he'd done the rape and sodomy of a child he was sentenced to six months in jail just six months for what he did while he was in jail jarvid's father actually suffered a very serious heart attack which was brought on by the stress of all of this he actually survived it and even though he was so ashamed of javed for bringing all this shame on the family and everything he's still very much loved and stuck by his son because like i said he seemed to have no sympathy for his son's victims and so believe it or not his father spent a lot of money trying to get jarvid out of prison for what he'd done eventually when he was released from jail jarvid's family pushed him to get married again because they didn't want him to go down the same path as last time they very much knew what kind of person he was attracted to and that was young boys so they wanted to get him married to a grown woman as quickly as they could so that he didn't have time to go back down that path so he gets married to yet another woman that he doesn't know very well and again this marriage doesn't last very long because he doesn't know the woman that well in 1992 jarved's father had another heart attack because to be fair ever since the first one right at the start of this case when all of this came out about what javid was doing with these boys i think that really set his father on like being unwell for the rest of his life he just kept having heart attacks he had high blood pressure he was really stressed all because of the crimes that his son had committed and eventually in 1992 he had another heart attack and this one was eventually the one that killed him and he was actually the last member of javed's family that really spoke to him now that his father was gone his contact from the family was completely cut off because like i said his mother was disgusted in him no one else in the family wanted anything to do with jarvid it was just his father and now that his father was gone none of them had a reason to need to see jarved he got three million in inheritance money when his father passed away but other than that he never spoke to any of his family ever again and with all of this inheritance javid went out and bought himself a massive house in lahore he set himself up a business although it seemed his motives for setting up this business were probably not for money because this business was a video game arcade specifically targeted at young boys it was the first shop of its kind in that town and young boys were flocking from all over to come to this shop and javid was so creepy about it like he would just stand there and watch the boys as they were like playing on the claw machines and stuff he had his favorites that would come in he had his favorite kids and he would give them like free gifts and and discount tokens and stuff like that sometimes he would even invite them back to his house because his house was right next to the video game shot so a few years went by and eventually jarv had managed to get back in contact with his family here and there they were working on rebuilding a relationship and then it all fell through again when they found out that he had boys living with him again this time he didn't even try to defend himself he turned around to his family and said these boys cook for me look after me and help me in my video game business he's justifying bringing these children back to live at his house because they cook for him and look after him sounds like grooming so at the video game arcade jarved had this one particular tactic that he would use to try and lure these boys in he would get a 100 rupee note out of his pocket and then just like slyly throw it on the floor without anyone noticing and pretend he dropped it he would then watch and see which one of the young boys would go and pick up the 100 rupees and then after about 10 minutes javid would be like has anyone seen 100 rupees in this shop i've just dropped my 100 rupee note and i need someone to help me find it of course all the boys in the shop are denying seeing this 100 rupee note even the boy that actually picked it up because obviously you don't want to give the money back but of course javid iqbal knew exactly which boy had picked it up because he'd watched and so he would take that boy next door to his house where he lived next to the video game arcade and he would force them into a strip search and these strip searches would often lead to more than just a strip search he would you know assault these children javed was doing this kind of thing for a very long time and the surprising part is was that everyone knew about it as well like all the boys that went into the shop knew what javid was like they all heard the stories from each other of each other being sexually assaulted by the shop owner but it wasn't enough to stop them from going in some of the boys parents knew some of the just general people in the community knew that this was going on they knew what went on behind closed doors in this video game arcade but nothing ever happened about it and people were horrified don't get me wrong like people all the townspeople were urging all these boys parents to go to the police about it but of the select few parents that did know that this was going on that did know that their children were being abused by javed iqbal they couldn't go to the police and that was because javed had already paid them to keep their mouths shut when he was in his mid 30s javed iqbal's video game arcade was robbed very severely actually they stole pretty much everything he had in there and he and another one of his employees were beaten within an inch of their lives they almost didn't survive this robbery in fact javed's injuries were so severe that he had to sell a lot of his possessions to be able to afford the hospital bills that came from it he had to sell his big house he had to sell his car he had to sell what was left of his video game business although he didn't have any of the stock left anymore and javed himself was left barely able to even walk he was bedridden for a long long time after this and for that reason he couldn't care for his aging mother and she really needed that care without her son by her side looking after her she eventually passed away and it said that this is the point in his life where javed's mindset switches to a much more darker and sinister one as if sexually assaulting these young boys wasn't bad enough he decided that that was no longer good enough for him he wanted to sexually assault them and then murder them and so javed iqbal set about finding his first murder victim he again decided to go for homeless or runaway boys because really there's no family to notice them go missing in 1998 and 99 which were the two main years that this case was going on the amount of homeless children on the streets of lahore was as many as like 5 000 and most of these kids were just doing whatever they could to survive and a lot of the time that meant adults taking advantage of them often in a sexual way this was not an uncommon thing jarvid wasn't the only person doing this but javid would lure the boys in on the promise of food and shelter and company and warmth fresh clothing all the things that he knew these children so desperately needed for survival he would play on their need to survive he would take these boys home he would do everything for them make them feel like a king and then he would switch the first thing he would do with these boys was get his camera out he would take a bunch of pictures of them some of them sexual in nature some of them genuinely just pictures of these boys he would make them undress sometimes sometimes they would be clothed honestly these pictures are different every time i think they're more just kind of a record for jarvid because he had a grand plan for these murders he wasn't just gonna go out there and kill as many people as he could find he wanted a rounded off number he wanted a goal and then when he got to that goal he was gonna stop and so he thought the perfect rounded off number was a hundred he was gonna kill a hundred boys and then he was gonna stop i don't know why he needed an end goal i don't know why he wanted you know that one rounded number but he did and so that was his goal he was gonna kill a hundred boys so police collected every piece of evidence in this whole apartment and in total they found 58 pieces of children's clothing like different pieces of clothing it seemed that javid iqbal kept pretty much everything of each of his victims apart from the bodies in the days following this discovery of javid iqbal's house of horrors this news hit the country like a ton of bricks people could not believe that this had been going on right under their noses this whole entire time and you might be wondering well how can a hundred children go missing and no one even realized that they're gone of course you have to factor in that most of these kids were homeless and didn't have families some of them were orphans and so there were no parents to even realize that they were missing although in the cases where these children did have parents you know for example all the video game arcade victims they weren't homeless boys but in a lot of those cases where the missing children did have parents that have realized that their child is missing and they're worried sick but a lot of them didn't report it to the police and that's because a lot of people in pakistan at the time were terrified of the police i mean they were so corrupt and it wasn't unusual for people to just die or go missing in their custody you know police would say that people had committed suicide or that they died accidentally or unexpectedly or died in their sleep while they were in custody but did that ever really happen most people believe that 99 of the deaths in police custody during this time were from police beating these people to death so these families didn't want to go to the police they didn't trust the police they didn't want to be seen as a nuisance to the police because god knows what they could do it's crazy that they could have gone to the police about this and somehow ended up worse off than before and so none of them ever really bothered and so suddenly police have got these like 58 different pieces of children's clothing from this serial killer's house they've bundled it all up into bin bags and they take it down to the police station and obviously all these 58 things have to belong to different children and so police put out an announcement saying if you have a missing child or you know if you think any of this could belong to them please come down look through all these bags please try and identify your child as one of these victims and so families did they came down in their hundreds to look through all of this it seemed that there'd been a lot of missing children over the years that parents hadn't reported but anyway as all of this has been going on where is javed iqbal police could not find this man at all they had this package delivered that they're starting to think is from java dikbal himself i mean the letter seems to be written by him they've been to his house he's not there and they've found all of this evidence but where is he police decided to launch a full-scale manhunt because they were actually worried that javed iqbal was going to take his own life before police could even get to him he had written in the confessional letter that he was thinking about going to the ravi river and drowning himself so police concentrated their searches mainly around this river they had diving teams they had people blocking off all the roads on the way there so that they could like intercept him if he came to the river the manhunt for javed iqbal was one of the biggest in pakistan's entire history and finally it all came to an end on december 30th 1999. that morning employees of the daily zhang newspaper in pakistan were just having a normal morning in the office when a man burst through the front doors this man looked really disheveled and dirty in fact the employees thought it was a homeless man that had just walked in and in his hands he was holding two satchels one of them was full of eggs and one of them was full of apples this man looked up at the journalists and just said i am javid iqbal killer of a hundred boys please tell someone in the reporting section that i have come to surrender i hate this world i'm not ashamed of my actions and i am ready to die i have no regrets javid iqbal turned himself in not to the police but to the media in fact the reason he said that he did this that he went to this newspaper rather than straight to the police station was again because he thought that the police would kill him so instead he went straight to the newspaper the staff there immediately called the police and within like 10 minutes the building was surrounded by a hundred armed soldiers javid iqbal was arrested then and there and taken into police custody and later that same evening four fourteen-year-old boys were also arrested back at javed's home and they were his accomplices they were the four boys that were helping him through this i say helping him but i also do just want to make it very clear that these boys didn't really have a choice like it's not like they were willing accomplices they were forced to help him chop up children's bodies and dissolve them in acid like these boys were traumatized one of these 14 year old boys actually ended up dying in police custody the police actually said that he committed suicide by jumping out of one of the top windows in the prison although no one believes this people think that the police beat that boy to death so anyway now police begin an interrogation with javed iqbal he really is something all the way through this this man really is a piece of work he's saying that he regrets nothing he would do it all over again if he could in fact he said that he could have killed as many as 500 boys but he decided to stop at 100 because that was the number he gave himself right at the beginning but why did he do it all why did he want to kill a hundred boys well it seems that the primary motive was probably his sick attraction to young boys a lot of these murders do seem to be sexually motivated but it also seems from his letters and from his diary that javid iqbal had a secondary motive for committing these murders and that was that he hated the police and he wanted to make their lives as hard as he possibly could by giving them loads of work to do in his diary jarved wrote about a particularly bad experience that he'd had with pakistan police saying i was so badly beaten that my head was crushed my backbone was broken and i was left crippled i hate this world my mother cried for me i want a hundred mothers to cry for their children there's a lot to unpack from that quote and i don't think i'm gonna bother because i think it's pretty self-explanatory but in a nutshell he's committing these murders because of all the pain that he's gone through in his life he wants other people to feel the pain that he and his family have felt whether that's the police or innocent mothers of children you know what i mean he just wants to make other people suffer the way that he has he's just a miserable man so anyway the time rolled round for javed iqbal's trial and he along with the three remaining 14 year old boys they were all put on trial all together at the same time and javid's strategy for his defense was just to pretend it never happened he said that the newspaper staff were lying about how he burst in and like confessed to it all and the quotes that he said he said that they were lying about all of that in fact he said that he didn't kill anyone at all actually and that he'd staged this whole thing as a social experiment he said that he was just trying to raise awareness for runaway children of poor families who become victims of evil people that's an exact quote from him a social experiment that's the first time in a true crime video that a serial killer has ever tried to use social experiment as an excuse i mean you can imagine how it went down for him as well it didn't go very well javed tried to say in court that all of these boys all of these 100 boys that he claimed to have killed and that police think are missing he says they're still out there somewhere and that police should just try harder to find them he was actually saying that they should stop blaming it all on him and start blaming it all on themselves for being bad police that can't find these missing children realistically the everyone saw straight through javid iqbal and he was found guilty of his crimes and so were his three accomplices actually the accomplices part of this case is such a gray area because there's really not that much information about them and their involvement online although i think some of them one of them in particular is not as innocent as they seem some of these accomplices were genuinely forced into this but there was one particular boy that seemed to enjoy helping javid iqbal murder these children the two other accomplices that didn't have as much to do with it were both sentenced to life in prison whereas javid iqbal and his main accomplice they were both sentenced to death so that tells me that this one particular accomplice had a lot more involvement in the crimes than the other boys although again like i said i don't know the exact details i wish i did so i could tell you but i don't so anyway javid iqbal and this other guy are getting the death penalty but this wasn't just your regular shmegular death penalty in fact the judge actually made some special exceptions for these men the judge stood up in front of the court and said to javed iqbal you will be strangled to death in front of the parents whose children you killed your body will be cut into 100 pieces and put in acid the same way you killed those children the judge then closed this case by saying he is a satan in the shape of a human being in fact he is a beast and such cruel that it is a disgrace to humanity to label him as human just a side note obviously that quote is translated i know it doesn't make sense but like i don't want to like reword history i'm not gonna like rewrite the judge quote anyway so this was a very um a very big very bold move from the judge to be like yeah we're not just gonna hang here we're actually gonna murder you and chop you up and put you in acid like that was kind of like taking it to another level a lot of people did think it was a suitable punishment because you know an eye for an eye alive for a life a lot of people in pakistan believed in that and so loads of people were for this loads of people were siding with the judge however at the end of the day it kind of is against human rights i suppose i mean a lot of people do argue that you kiss goodbye to your human rights the second you murder another human being which you know fair enough but anyway like actually human rights officials came in and they were like no we can't do that why did the judge even say that like that's not legal so that sentence had to be revised and turns out they were gonna get just the regular shmegular death penalty but anyway in the meantime a psychiatrist was actually brought into the prison to come and speak with jarved and his brother just about his crimes and just to like i don't know understand more about this man and it was in this interview where javed's brother confided in the psychiatrist that he thinks his brother is innocent like genuinely and he's not even just trying to defend him he thinks his brother has been framed by the police essentially his brother thinks that there were so many disappearances of young boys in that area in lahore that the police just couldn't keep on top of they couldn't find all these missing boys they were looking like they were bad at their job and so they needed a scapegoat they needed something else to blame this on and that was when they came up with the idea to create a serial killer that killed a hundred boys blame it all on him not on the police that can't find the boys after all police in pakistan had the power to literally murder someone in their custody and play off as a suicide so they probably did have the power to do this as well to frame an innocent man for a hundred murders and there were a few reasons that javed's brother thought he was innocent so we'll get into those now starting off with javed's apartment so earlier on in his life yes javid was a very wealthy man he had two big villas he had loads of money loads of space but then his star was robbed he was beaten up he was crippled he had all of those hospital bills he had to sell everything his house his car is business and then all he had was enough money for a small one-bedroom apartment and that was where he lived for the rest of his life and it was in this small cheap apartment with paper thin walls and loads of neighbours that javid iqbal supposedly lured in and murdered a hundred boys and then disposed of their bodies how is that even possible that he could have been doing this in an apartment building without any of his neighbors realising a single thing surely if there was kids around all the time the neighbors would notice even as much as the young boys that used to just live with him like the 14 year olds how did the neighbors not notice that there's also the fact that like i said the walls were so thin there this was such like a cheaply made apartment that like you could hear your neighbors having a pee next door again how could they not hear his victim's screams him chopping up the bodies him like moving around big vats of acid how did they not see him bringing the acid in and out of his home like every few days but yeah the neighbors supposedly didn't see or hear anything the entire time that they lived knee of javed iqbal how is that possible and javed's brother even told this psychiatrist another reason why he thinks his brother is innocent is because some of these missing boys that were supposedly murdered by him had turned up alive they were found and they were reunited with their families after police had already blamed javid iqbal for their murder and said that they had evidence for it if you have evidence for it how is that boy alive at home with his family right now tell me that and so now this psychiatrist was quite excited to go and speak to javed and get his perspective hear what he has to say but when he did javid's interview was a lot less sane than his brothers javed refused all the way through this interview to talk about the killings which is literally what the interview is for all he wanted to talk about was his life before the murders he told the psychiatrist that when he was in his 20s he'd been approached by a saint who told him that he was the chosen one he used this phrase the chosen one a lot he referred to himself as the chosen one he said that he felt like he was not of this world he also mentioned that he'd had black magic performed on him he was just making a lot of big nonsensical claims and it was just a very incoherent interview it certainly seemed that jarvid might have some degree of undiagnosed mental illness or something going on so anyway the psychiatrist didn't really have much luck from javed himself and ultimately that made him doubt the brother as well nothing really happened from these interviews especially the one with the brother no one really talked about it and i think they should i don't know not that i believe it i really try not to like look into those oh maybe the serial killers innocent kind of theories because i think they're just disrespectful to the victims but i think it's interesting to look into that but then on october 8th 2001 breaking news for this case javid iqbal and his men accomplice were both found dead in their prison cells it seemed they'd both hung themselves with their bed sheets in their own cells at least that's what the police said but the autopsy doesn't lie unlike the police and it was found that javed and this accomplice had both been savagely beaten just before they died the two of them were bleeding from their noses from their mouths they had cuts all over their tongue where they'd bitten their tongue probably from when they were being beaten javed particularly had loads of injuries all over his body that had been inflicted using a heavy blunt weapon if these two men had just peacefully decided to take their own lives in their own cells as some sort of suicide pact then how could they have been sir beaten no one from javid iqbal's family came to collect his body for a funeral or anything like that they simply said we have nothing to do with him he died for us on the day that he confessed to killing a hundred children thanks again to hellofresh for
