Just finished this video. Really good. It’s weird seeing such a dark movie with pyros occasional humour, but it still works.

Absolutely brilliant video, I love these long videos going over things pyro's interested In rather than cranking out a short commentary video over YouTube drama (not that that goes under appreciated we love them too), each one has that level of detail and care put into it and its brilliant, can't wait to see more!

Ho-ly shit. I’m new to this subreddit and a new subscriber to Pyro. But this video cemented me into a viewer of his for a long while. So well explained and executed; I like his longer form videos so much I might rewatch them for a third time.

I really really want to start making YouTube videos, and this long form video is something I think I'd be good at. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this stuff? The script wouldn't be a problem, it's just that I don't have a mic, and I'd use Lumafusion to edit as I don't have a laptop.

Honestly, I'd say pyros best work is the ones like these. It got me into finding new shows and films from him

[Music] during lockdown i found myself gravitating more and more towards streaming services with netflix dominating the market which is ironic because the selection in the uk unless you like anime is pitiful so i'd end up mostly watching evangelion where a child cries a lot breaking bad a show so powerful that you can tell the exact point walter became heisenberg and my personal favorite bill burr screaming at his children you just [ __ ] up the whole summer kevin daddy i got all a's oh princess i'm yelling at kevin right now is actually kind of funny so yeah uh all in all not much choice now last year i made a video on a film called cube and it's god awful sequel starring todd howard it's getting closer oh no what do we do i'm so scared the original film was amazing it's this micro budget claustrophobic thriller about a group of people stuck inside a cube full of traps trying to understand how and why it sounds basic on paper but it's the interactions and relationships the characters formed or didn't form that really made the movie now on netflix when you search up a film it doesn't have which is like 95 percent of the time it really tries to recommend you something similar so for example if i go onto netflix and type in pewdiepie comes up with uh rick and morty and megamind what happens if you type in paracynical [Music] ah oh great now when i typed cubin it suggested this film called circle the premise seems to be people vote for each other to be killed off i think it's a thriller but it's basically an accidental comedy hey kid you get good grades yeah yeah straight a's oh my god she got a beat let's kill her but then i had another recommendation a film called the platform a spanish film that feels like a spiritual successor to cube but differentiates itself enough to be a completely different film with its own unique message the basic premise is people are trapped inside a confined space with dwindling food supplies so basically any normal spanish prison the film begins with a man playing a violin with inaudible conversations in the background this is a real contrast to the promotional material for the film which usually shows a singular person alone and isolated with a drab colour palette from what we understand this is a kitchen [Music] with the manager walking around making sure all the food is prepared properly i mean most fine dining restaurants have a degree of prestige but this is next level with the unnamed manager taking it upon himself to personally assess the quality of each individual plate these are clearly people that care immensely about the quality of the food we then hear this line from an unseen character [Music] we see someone opening their eyes a close-up similar to the original cube film but compared to the original this shot is much more dimly lit with each blink the camera pans out more and more as they understand little by little the situation they're in i'm not really sure why they have that high-pitched ringing sound i i assume they just saw breaking bad and thought it looked really cool we see the man is accompanied by someone opposite him staring blankly hello the two are filled mostly with claustrophobic close-up shots helping convey the mystery of what the old man is saying he finally asks rhetorically which the man replies [Music] what i believe the old man was trying to do here was understand if his new cellmate has been here before and by answering so vaguely and cautiously he knows he's fresh meat as the younger man stands up we get a wider shot of the room they're in mostly featureless concrete except a slab for a bed the strong fluorescent lights and a huge hole in the center of the room which we can see many other people are in the same situation both above and below this goes against the cube in that film people could traverse four different ways horizontally and vertically with each room having a different set of lights to convey progress and emotion and also being able to use the same set over and over to save money by having no real way to traverse in this film you've already created a much more claustrophobic setting the younger man goes to shake the old man's hand introducing himself as goreng a very clear protagonist action being the first to introduce himself and coming across as friendly and non-antagonizing but like any boomer the old man cares more about his personal space than making any friendship [Music] but you know he at least acknowledges his name so maybe boomers are people too goreng asks him what name he's been given i thought this was like an error with the subtitles but the same question is asked in the dub as well [Music] see what name have you been assigned sir you're right this implies that they're not using real names but nicknames probably used so people don't grow too fond of each other given to them by the powers that be that put them there the old man says it's good to learn names as they'll be together for a long time this whole scene you can tell that the old man is staring right through goreng while he looks around the old man trying to still understand his surroundings usually the first character you meet in the film is friendly but here it's not so black and white he eventually gives in and says his name is trimagase now the funny thing is gurang and trimagassi aren't actually spanish words but indonesian goreng short for nasi goreng literally meaning fried rice is a basic dish possibly relating to guering's simple and innocent nature in the beginning of the film his humble beginnings starting on floor 47 not too high to appreciate the finer things but not too low to have to fight to survive also not to mention he's named after food and food is literally the most vital thing throughout the whole movie and trimagase meaning thank you which is ironic because getting any advice from this guy is like draining blood from a stone trimmer gassy says surviving in the hole as he calls it is sometimes easy sometimes not so much depending on where you're assigned but he says they're on level 48 which is a good level gurang him by mimicking his catchphrase obviously which finally gives trimagassi a smile clearly someone who is incredibly self-indulgent and only respects those that play by his rules i mean if garen woke up panicked asked a billion questions trimagassi wouldn't have even spoke a word to him but by goreng being slow and patient trimagassi is opened up to him he doesn't say how many people are below but soon there'll be fewer of them which turns his smile into more of a sinister smug this worries gorang as he tries to get the attention of people below him is using very specific wording here you shouldn't speak to those below you because they are below but you can't speak to those above you because they're above you the old man isn't someone who wants change there's very clearly a class system set up via the levels people are placed on and he wants to keep that system in place even if that means no one really wins except the powers that be messes much he'll give out as much information as he's given got a selection of good things on sale stranger forcing him to use his surroundings and not rely on the old man as a video game [Music] tutorial like to exit the combat tutorial trimagassi sets up his pillow in front of the hole using it as seeing and a light panel changes from red to green whatever's happening trimagassi is preparing for it like it's routine but with garang in an empty featureless room with nothing he can offer as an answer he simply tells trimagassi the lights changing color the old man with a smug smile knowing that goreng is grasping at straws simply waits for the platform above to lower to their level answering his question the platform has food an immense amount but closer inspection you can see it's half eaten the people above clearly not taking any consideration for those below much like trimagassi who's more than happy to eat the leftovers from the people up above in these really uncomfortable close-up shots almost dehumanizing him but what if he says is true that every month people are placed on a new level this could be the first time he's eaten in over a month we even see a shot of someone above watching the meat and even though he wears the same clothes and eats the same food he's one level above making him superior this is further proven by the shot of going below him almost perceived like an ant goreng understands that there are two people per level and if they're on level 48 they're eating the leftovers of 94 people trimagassi tells him not to worry as there will be fewer people above as the month goes on hinting that starvation isn't the only thing that gets people to gain in themselves inside the hole goreng finds an untouched apple and says he'll keep it for later producing another smug smile from trimagassi he finishes his wine and throws the bottle down the shaft which shatters finishing off a vindictive spit at those below garang has to ask why but paraguay [Music] is someone who's become part of the system hating those above him but being the equivalent of a reddit mod to those below he's enriching this already greedy self-serving system taking control of everything around him and despising everything that's out of his immediate reach gorang notices the rooms getting increasingly hotter trimagassi seemingly uncaring telling him it'll get even hotter and it's all his fault for shadow by that smug luck he gave goreng when he took the apple off the table the whole doesn't allow anyone to keep food after the platform is departed because that would break the system in place and gurang keeping that apple has set up a sensor that will either increase or decrease the temperature until nothing can survive this shows how neutral the hole is trying to be it sounds cruel not being able to keep food and rushing it out but if everyone was as selfish as trimagassi the people on the first floor would pick the table clean and everyone else below would suffer the only real reason that any food arrives to these two in the first place is because the people above stomachs could only hold so much the next scene we see gorang sitting in an empty room built with similar materials to the hole but you can see him wearing a shirt and tie it's also a wide take jokes to pose with the claustrophobic close-ups inside the hole so clearly we're outside of it there's this slow creeping shot where the camera moves towards gorang showing how insignificant he is in the grand scheme of things the unseen character tells him he's been accepted giving us the idea that goreng wasn't forced into the hole but went there by choice although his reaction once inside shows that he was sold on a lie that or the total ambiguity of what he was being accepted into muddied his aspirations we vaguely understand that he can bring a single item into the hole his choice was the book don quixote probably one of the most important spanish media of all time [Applause] only beaten by that spanish cs go player this is obviously not a great item to bring into the hole if you knew what it entailed you'd probably try to bring something to help you survive not past the time hence why he gets such an odd look by the people above him the book don quixote is about a nobleman probable in-cell who reads so much chivalry literature he becomes delusional and takes it upon himself to become a literal white knight thinking he can right all wrongs this is basically similar to what gorang is doing trying to contact those below and above him he's blissfully unaware of the rules of the whole and how spiteful people really are the book isn't named after the main character but means someone who is determined to change what is wrong but who does it in a way that is silly or impractical quixotism is an impractical pursuit of ideals wanting the best but not taking into hand the practicality and limits of achieving a goal this is a brand new world goring has been thrown into and he needs to adjust or perish he finally caves in and tells trimagassi about himself even continuing to mimic his catchphrase to humor him the old man doesn't pay much attention until he says he came into the hole [Music] voluntarily this is the first time we can see trimagassi truly looks shocked the fact that he's been put in the hole was someone who came here by choice he won't even tell goreng why he's in the hole out of shock instead talking to the wall later on when they're sleeping rain gets out of the bed to see the platform travel back to the surface probably designed that way so no one could you know cheese the system and ride the platform back to the surface you can tell how fast it's moving because there's more shaky cam than a tent scene in breaking bad [Music] it's interesting that instead of the lights being turned off or dimmed they go to a dark red and with the platform traveling back every night making that much noise it'd be hard for anyone to get any proper sleep making sense as to why people are so hostile and cagey while simultaneously also being a subtle nod to some of the rooms in cube i mean you could argue the lights are still on so someone doesn't go to the toilet and accidentally fall down the hole could you imagine just like 85 percent of debts were caused by people falling into the hole the next day goreng refuses again to eat any food on the platform trim agassi telling him that he doesn't even deserve to be on this level which feeds into his delusion because no one in the hole is awarded a level it's a random shuffle every month [Music] this shows how desperate trimagassi is for power the fact that he wants ownership of his own catchphrase back something so petty and insignificant is a huge victory for him gorang humes him and trimagassi goes on to explain he watched a tv advert showing an impossibly perfect knife foreign i love this scene because up until now we've never actually seen the sink basin installed on every level showing that water yes i i say water i don't go water water sorry i'm british showing that water is an infinite resource in the whole the film like the characters have become so transfixed with the food arriving on every level we didn't even think about how characters get an even more essential necessity water water water is talking about an impossible product a knife sharpener that can make any blade cut through pure brick i think this is more mocking adverts showing off products that are way too good to be true what he does and then you just do a bit of that a little bit of that move it over this should be completely gone no he also pretty much admits that he's fell for consumerism believing it would fill the void in his life his own personal hole is sarcastically says he could use the knife to cut someone's throat open and trim agassi explains how another ad came on the tv for an even better knife you can tell the disconnect here as garen genuinely believes this is a joke of the court in a fit of rage basically buying a game that went on sale the next day threw his tv set out onto the street he creates a disconnect between him and his actions by saying the person is an illegal immigrant he believes he's done no wrong i mean sure he's killed someone but if they never came into his country then they wouldn't have been there in the first place he goes on to say he was given a choice between a psychiatric hospital or the whole obviously like goreng he wasn't taught much about the hole before going in but unlike goreng he already justified brutal actions outside so he would have adjusted to life here much more quicker hence why he survived on lower floors [Music] that's everyone's biggest fear in the whole if not being alone with your thoughts they've been put on a floor where there is no food for two months straight one month without food would be incredibly hard especially to people who have the convenience of food whenever they want but a second month is pretty much a death sentence i found an article online saying that if someone has water water they could survive without food for up to two months but for ninety percent of people i'd find that very hard to believe that it's fine bro i got this golden apple look just eat that it'll keep you going five minutes hunger barang realizing he's inevitably going to end up on a lower level during his six-month stay tries again to contact the people below to send a message to ration out the food as much as it's a meme trimagassi is right the people above won't listen because why should they when you have all the riches imaginable in the whole that's food why would you want to give it to others below you it could be seen as a long-term investment in case you ended up on a lower floor yourself but in the moment you have the food so why bother but by being on a mid-floor garang still has food therefore some level of influence so he tries to convince the people below him which of course totally backfires because the people below are just as stubborn as those [Music] above foreign will try to cover any kind of power he has knowing he might end up below the very people he's urinating on he has immediate power and that's all he cares for he never looks ahead he reveals the item he bought into the hole was the samurai plus knife he saw advertised on tv something that has infinitely more uses inside of the hole than don quixote and the fact that convicted criminal was allowed to bring a weapon into the hole shows the people running it have next to no ethics the next time the platform lowers garang eventually caves in and tries to eat some food placing his pillow down a seating much like trimagassi did at the beginning of the film we get this slow pan shot of the two eating from the platform as much as goreng has tried to abstain he's now part of the cycle whether he likes it or not eating food that will be missing for others down below i mean he's lasted about three days out of six months so overall protest wasn't going too bad [Music] it's actually genius how apathetic trimagassi is more worried if that person was a non-drinker so there's less wine for him to drink this is clearly something that happens a lot in the hole and was basically foreshadowed by him in the opening narration [Music] but first hey you are you sick of watching the same content over and over uh no not really i mean five minutes ago i just watched a actually well produced rap battle with paracetamol and mimi well that's why story fires here a youtube alternative with hours of content you can't get anywhere else this is epic with featured creators like boogie2988 get off my line what a steal i even uploaded my own exclusive video where me and the boys watch the platform and our reactions are hilarious laugh out loud is that like the grumpy cat as a human being the website was created by mcjuggernuggets [Music] you may know him as the guy with the psycho dad that's that's me which won him 10 oscars so what do you say does that sound like a good offer oh my god wait a second paracynical uploaded an exclusive video on storyfire.com that i can't watch anywhere else how wholesome i'm escaping story fire means anyone can tell their own story and fire because oh my god i left the stove on and now i'm homeless my home may be gone but at least i still have storyfire so i can watch exclusive content just like this remember vidme look at that mascot looks like the reddit logo no wonder it's shut down storyfire doesn't even need a logo it's just that epic i'm not big into logo explosion explosion subscribe to me on storyfire to keep up to date on more exclusive uploads my next video will be media suing people in red dead 2 online and then complaining why the multiplayer is dead [Music] when people view your content you earn blaze which you can use to promote your content even further link below please watch my very funny exclusive video on storyfire thank you for coming to my ted talk i've been kanye west and you've been watching a fish smoking a cigarette add over trimagassi then gives a very bleak outlook on how the upper levels could be even worse than the lower floors i know he's a boomer but he makes a very good point in the hole a floor without food you're forced to survive by any means necessary it's desperate and can force some people to become primal and ruthless but you still have a purpose to keep going no no no no this isn't a dark souls comparison no i'm not chilling it in this video but on the higher levels the only thing you have to fear is the possibility of losing everything when you go down to a lower level on top of that having everything you need and in total isolation can put you in your own head and for a lot of people that is the worst place to be it's extremely common for the super rich to be depressed and lonely with ceos having double the chance of being depressed than the general public i mean gta 5's main premise was how the american dream was a lie and reaching the end of the ladder just made people melancholic and miserable that's it now goreng screams at both above and below but it falls on deaf ears probably seeing it as more food for them agassi then tells him that he'd probably do the same thing given the circumstances you see on a middle level you still have something to strive for but you also have foundations to rely on you can't get too comfortable but it's not a constant test of endurance and for an evolving character like goreng it's a perfect balancing point to help him and us the viewer understand the whole gurang asks what level he's been on during his stay in the hole saying he's been all over m so if level 48 only has leftovers let's say about floor 70 gets no food whatsoever most of the flaws trimagassi has been on have had some sort of food come down to him what's interesting is before waking up with gurang he was on floor 132 that means there's more than 100 floors in the hole meaning the majority in the hole don't actually get to eat or at most get the scraps left over by those above much like real life where the super rich own the mass majority too much wealth to spend in one lifetime or in the whole too much food to eat in a single day gorang also insinuates trimagassi resorted to cannibalism if level 132 gets no food and he has a self-sharpening knife then why is goreng here instead of his cellmate trimagassi let on much earlier that cellmates were bound together they don't change after every month and again taking much more interest in the ownership of the word obviously than anything else this uh la noir interrogation is interrupted when a woman appears on the platform trumagassi on faze buyer but gorang taking an instant interest using my reliable will of knowledge which is a google search of wordhippo.com mihuru has a few meanings to watch over guard and open one's eyes trimagassi says she descends down the hole every month to look for a child meaning that no one is exempt from being placed in the hole even children and then he goes on to say this the real irony is no one in the hole is free to do what they want there's no plausible way to ascend i guess unless someone bought a 30-foot ladder into the hole you have no idea what loss is the only real choice you have is to go down where there's less and less resources people waking up on random levels is a reflection of real-life people's financial situations and upbringing by pure luck you might be born into an incredibly wealthy family beautiful girls or connections that help you build a bitcoin empire you can even get into the unspoken youtube algorithm where your mediocre at best videos get enough views that you can make it your full-time job but for the vast majority this isn't the case and the hole reflects that with the floor above you being out of reach but always visible tricking you into believing you'll eventually ascend but the only sure way is possessing what you have in the moment like trimagassi or going down like mihuru magassi also goes on to say that he never actually killed his cellmate like goreng insinuated just that he completed his time in the hole and a buddy fell onto the platform he claims to have eaten human flesh but didn't kill anybody this is never brought up again and it's left up to us to believe him or not which is perfect there's no scene where he goes ah it was me batman i killed the younglings and then i ate them it doesn't coddle the viewer like most films is then dragged off the platform by the people below trimagassi doesn't care because it doesn't directly affect him but garen shouts for them to stop you never see any of the carnage but while the two are talking you can subtly hear mihuru's screams being replaced with the men [Music] [Music] you don't even see the bodies because you don't need to it's a great scene showing how toxic trimagassi and goring's relationship is killing spree we have a montage of the two washing and eating on the platform you can notice goring is really taking on the traits of trimagassi now beginning by washing the same way he does and treating the platform with little to no etiquette throwing plates when he's done spitting out and eating food and even standing on top of it a stark contrast to how reserved he was in the beginning only being able to pick up a single uneaten apple this is the moment walter became heisenberg the soundtrack has this menacing tone with each tick a day passes we can see him hanging off his clothes on the lights trimagassi shares his wine with him and he seems mostly unfazed when the platform passes up each night gorang has now adapted to living within the hole like how most of us are forced to adapt the hand life gives us i think the biggest irony in this montage is that the whole provides inmates with materialistic things like shaving cream and razors but food is such a scarce resource at the end of the month trimagassi asks garang something important [Music] is [Music] foreign it's an empty compliment because having a good heart means nothing in the hole and he knows that friendship means nothing when survival is at stake i mean it's no coincidence why so much media focuses on the breakdown of society when people have their resources stripped away from them also it's never actually explained how people are moved from floor to floor only that gas knocks them out and they're all shuffled around it's definitely pushing the definition of up to your interpretation but at the same time when there's a platform that seems to levitate in mid-air i guess there's some room of disbelief when goreng wakes up it mimics the opening scene but something's wrong he's been tied down to the bed trimagassi tries to comfort him but we can already piece together what's wrong [Music] justifies his actions by saying gorang is younger and stronger and he's just taking precautions i think most people would jump in the defense of guering here labeling trumagassi as the secret disney villain but honestly is what he's doing wrong he even says to goreng he's not going to kill him but instead fast as long as he can before taking parts of his flesh keeping him alive even offering his own flesh to sustain him i find it hard to believe that if any of us were put in this situation you'd happily say to a stranger yep there's no food down here we're both gonna starve here's my meat bro there's no real villains in the hole trimmer gassy is just trying to survive like everyone else you could label him as selfish because of his age he probably wouldn't survive a whole month of fasting like garen could but trimagassi has been all around he knows how desperate people can be and honestly if he didn't tiger rang down i could see them becoming more and more erratic with each day to the point where there's a fight where only one of them survives he also compares gorang to escargot snails that are purged for a week before eating in his own sick way he's trying to justify himself seeing gorang as a snail that's being purged of its impurities is it's horrible knowing what floor you wake up on depends on waking up in silence or people around you screaming i think the people jumping off into the camera was a bit over the top but then again i i guess you needed something for the netflix trailer [Music] the platform arrives and much like trimagassi predicted is completely stripped clean it's a miserable sight compared to the beginning of the film and the irony is gurang was complaining about the food being half-eaten which seems like a luxury now trim agassi ignoring the elephant in the room by really pathetically attempting to recapture the friendship they built on floor 48 as usual he can't be accountable for his actions like when he killed someone outside the hole it's not his fault but society that's not funny we get another montage but this one is a lot more sinister with trimagassi going through his normal routine while gorang is strapped to his bed screaming for help it's great how you can use the same soundtrack twice but each can have a totally different meaning given the context a week passes and trim agassi can't wait any longer using his age as a defense like anyone over thirty [Music] foreign he doesn't even acknowledge what's being said if he did he'd have to come to terms with the consequences of his actions the same reason why people find animals adorable but then eat them a couple hours later no i'm not a vegan by the way i'm not trying to she'll anything here i'm happy eating meat but if most of us were asked to kill a live animal before we ate it i could imagine a huge amount relenting because they don't directly see the process much like how trimmer gassy just sees goring like a snail goreng too exhausted to even cry just turns his head in disgust while trimagassi does in one last kindness by giving him some cloth to bite down on to help with the pain you can tell he doesn't take pleasure in this but for him it's a necessity to survive [Music] mihuru interferes thinking she's saving goreng's life probably because he was one of the few people to show us some level of kindness during her descent in the hole her slicing trimagase's neck was ironically what garang accused him of last month and then gives him the knife you know this is kind of like a choice presented in a lot of media you know do you kill the oppressor or do you walk away being the better person learning from your experiences and growing into a new or well you could do that by goreng killing trimagassi he's been broken by the hole and took the life of another i mean he was probably gonna bleed out anyway but he would have just been a neutral observer instead of taking his rage out and a dying man in his defense i think very few of us will be able to contain our rage by being kept captive by a man intending to eat you for a month gareng isn't a bad person this just shows that the hole has the ability to corrupt everyone mihuru stays with gurang eating the flesh of trimagassi and feeding it to him in this really twisted romantic way take notes disney she leaves the next day with meat strapped around the fellata taking guering's innocence and naivete with her i actually read an article on eating human flesh apparently it's mostly fine just don't eat the brain because uh because that would lead to kuru and then you have an incredibly mediocre zombie game to deal with we cut back to the kitchen from the start of the film and something is clearly wrong the manager's hands shaking holding what seems to be a perfectly presented panna cutter nothing being said is audible but it doesn't need to be he's clearly unhappy with the dish finding what appears to be a single hair from one of the chefs rounding them up to see whose head it belongs to the fact that they are so obsessed with success that they fixate on minor details the majority won't see juxtaposed with goreng eating flesh now covered in maggots showing the disparity of the two societies also uh don't ask me how the maggots got into the hole uh i actually have no idea garen now sees trimagase as a specter not really him but what goreng thought he was for the little time they spent together an imperfect representation he's incredibly two-dimensional blaming goring for his death when he would have bled out anyway [Music] oh the hole trimagassi will never truly go away with the isolation and no real way to distract himself until he reaches true freedom trimagassi will cling to his psyche reminding him that they're one in the same now [Music] it's the end of the month and gurang will be moved to a new random level while the gas knocks him out he dreams of being caressed by mihuru licking him which is uh a lot more sinister given the uh the cannibalism shown earlier is quickly diverted to the numbers on the wall even higher than the first level he was on and you can see the relief on his face the woman introduces herself as imigiri and the dog as ramesses the second goreng marks her for even considering to bring a dog into the hole [Music] i didn't even notice she called gurang by his name until i re-watched the clip but it's revealed that she's the interviewer gureng spoke to before going into the hole we get brief shots of her ticking what appears to be a yes or no box ticking every box in the same column the questions seem out of place for an interview what tolerances or allergies do you have and what's your favorite food there's long awkward pauses between each exchange which gorang is quick to pick up on for the first time she ticks the box on the opposite side picking up on his anxiety she's clearly someone who's empathetic at least basically he's asked what his favorite food is saying it'll be included on the menu he doesn't know like most of us i mean if i was asked what my favorite food was i'd be thinking ahead like how long would i be eating this food what's more american than a cheeseburger this cheeseburger you wouldn't want to pick something you'd only occasionally like only to hate it [Music] he's semi sarcastically picks escargot snails that trim agassi kept comparing him to could possibly mean an indonesian graveyard in the java island it would seem fitting as she's someone who's inadvertently sent people to their death multiple times by approving them via the interview it made me think of the few that could actually be denied in the interview seeming how straightforward it is but the director of the platform galda galter galter giltelo golda giltelu golda gatalu urita said himself gorang is meat for the platform they'll accept him no matter what you leave with him but by having the interview the platform is presented as a great opportunity as a luxury to aspire when it's actually your petition i'm sure we've all been through some job interview like this vertical self-management center is a lot more brand friendly than the whole it's classic corporate speak much like when a brand or youtuber apologizes it's a i'm sorry you feel that way instead of being direct because that makes them less marketable on top of that she clearly had no idea the hole was this bad much like boardroom meetings where corporate nonchalantly discuss who they're gonna fire so they can see a turnaround next quarter unaware that they're condemning people you're done because they're not there to see the consequences she tells gorang that there's 200 levels in the hole and he argues saying that there's never enough food to reach the bottom saying the system itself is flawed [Music] she's the opposite of trimagassi while he was a cynic who coveted power imagery is someone who's optimistic and wants to help the people in the hole much like goreng did at the beginning of the film although he's become much more apathetic now after being broken believes the vsc was created to force spontaneous solidarity the random notion of everyone coming together for one cause believing the administration are using it as a test bed for the outside world also hinting that things outside aren't much better either when the platform lowers garang is just happy enough to be eating something that isn't human flesh much like how true magasi's first month with him was in celebration of escaping floor 132. imagiry on the other hand quickly gathers food together on separate plates evenly rationing it out for the people below even treating her existence the same as her dog she goes on to say the vsc administration is very strict on letting under-16s into the hole which directly conflicts with mihuru's apparent mission to rescue a child the pit lowers and imigiri compels the people below to ration out the food they have goreng physically walking away because he knows how the situation will end she does have power by being above them but it's hard to take food away from someone when it's already in their mouth i don't think it was on accident that this boomer has the exact mannerisms and appearance as trimagassi gorang cynically has the idea that there is no spontaneous solidarity and the whole was only created by the very small chance it did occur so the administration could understand how and why in this microcosm so they could contain it in the outside world why contain it he believes the administration is pure evil and only wants control imagiry disagrees nil saying that she's worked with them for many years and they can do good to which goring retorts we can only assume this is true because she never disagrees it's much easier for her to believe that the company she's worked with want to help her by testing her instead of facing the possible reality that she's no different from everyone else put in here we have another montage of imagiry trying to convince people below to ration the food out day by day but her pleas are ignored funnily enough these will be the same people that get put on the lower floor next month only to complain about the people up above being too selfish is after the repetition goreng creates his own solidarity by threatening to ruin their food the one thing they covet for power they have an instant problem on their hands and have to contribute to the system or suffer them being put on a lower floor is seen as so inevitable and far away it might as well be on the same level as accepting death but this is different with no direct way to take away what's directly in front of them the people above won't listen to change or reason even if it benefits them in the long term when the platform next lowers mihuru is on it barely alive she then says the only word spoken during the entire film but she's not cold but the room's cold the dog ramesses has taken some meat making the temperature in the room plummet during the night gurang sleeps directly in the middle of the platform giving up his bed for mihuru apart from the shot looking kind of cool [Music] he's physically distanced himself from the two not sure who to open up to or confide in mihuru possibly saved his life but corrupted him with the freedom of choice and immigury is too naive for her own good and her affiliation with the administration means she could be hiding more than she's letting on is woken up by the two women fighting and looks to see mihuru has killed the dog ramses ii of course i'm not gonna show that on the paracynical channel rated e for everyone so here's a funny alive dog instead in the end they'll beg us to save them the next day mihuru leaves and gurang fully commits to imiguri's idea of rationing out the food outside the movie ramesses ii was known as one of the greatest pharaohs of egypt brokering peace with surrounding communities the dog's death makes goring realize unless someone makes the change themselves the whole will repeat the same cycle of death over and over immiguri explains how mihuru isn't the person the whole belief she is she says mihuru came into the hole on her own there is no child and simply snapped it's interesting to think where the story about her finding her child came from as the only person to tell this story was trimagase someone who was renowned for bending the truth wasn't the don quixote of the film but mihuru was someone who became so self-deluded she thought her journey to save a child was noble despite leaving a trail of bodies behind her she implores to goreng that she had no idea people were being sent into the hole even showing the reason she came here treatment for a cancer hey smooth skin whether it was funding for treatment or some kind of treatment only the administration could provide is unclear immiguri like everyone else here has had a promise dangled above them for her it's to live longer which seems ironic because the majority of people die here before they get out [Applause] we cut to snails being prepared in the kitchen we saw at the beginning of the film i didn't even notice this until now but the majority of the soundtrack has been a violin playing in this melancholic tune and the very opening of the film begins with a shot of a violin being played the snails are served delicately and we finally see where the kitchen takes place level zero the very peak of society representative of the global elite that own the majority and their economy is represented by the food they make it's easy to label them as villains but like i said earlier no one on the platform is truly evil i personally think the people on floor zero are so wrapped up in their pursuit of perfectionism they're totally unaware of the suffering going on beneath them we have another montage of the people below picking the platform clean the audio design here is just it's disgusting and by not showing anyone's face they're dehumanizing them even more as they grab as much food as possible uncaring about the people below what i find funny is that very few of the foods here would actually help people survive in the hole like goreng everyone here has picked their favorite foods and many are high calorie like the cakes but provide little actual nutrition some even picking alcohol that if anything increases appetite the food is a perfect reflection of people in the hole uncaring for anything that isn't in the current moment when the platform reaches garen's level we see the snails totally untouched the dish he chose in the interview it's horrible to imagine the amount of people he's inadvertently condemned to death by choosing such a small dish much like a muguri sending people off into the hole speaking of her she's lost all hope after the death of her dog and refuses to eat anything even though it's the final day of the month and tomorrow they could end up anywhere in the hole there's no need to build suspense for this scene we pretty much knew this was going to happen eventually one thing i love is how this floor is the exact same setup as 33 but you can clearly tell there's a moodier color palette used here higher floors have a more neutral and warm palette while lower floors are more cold and blue floor 202 is deep more deep than even imagi was told by the administration immigrants already hung herself you need incredibly strong willpower to survive down here and after the whole had already crushed her altruistic morals she didn't have anything else to virtue this means gorang is on his own for an entire month new cellmates aren't distributed until the start of each month gorang from his isolation begins to hallucinate trumagassi and immigury again it's important to note this isn't actually them but goreng's incredibly superficial representation of them from the brief time they've spent together is convincing himself that imagury left her body here instead of jumping down for him to eat [Music] [Applause] is reciting john 6 53 saying that unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of man you have no life in you played quite literally here because if goring doesn't eat he probably will perish as he's still overcoming his injury sustained from trimagase i love when media recites the bible revelation 21 6 i am alpha and omega i will give unto him that is a first of the fountain of the world when the platform lowers it's been picked clean much like when he was with trimagase he takes a broken piece of plate with him to use as a makeshift knife we finally know where that plate piece went in breaking bad [Music] we get a samba montage of garen tapping his fingers etching a tally chart into the wall and even eating pages of don quixote to distract himself i actually looked up what happens if you eat paper apparently it's mostly harmless but we lack the enzymes to properly digest it hence why in the very next scene he's on the toilet one night from agassi haunts him again giving him the samurai plus which is obviously just his broken plate telling him to eat in meguri and goreng so lethargic and exhausted doesn't even try to argue much like in real life when he compared going to the snail trimmer gassy is comparing imagury's body to a cow creating a wall so he doesn't have to face his actions [Music] he wakes up next to mihuru who attacks him with the samurai plus but wakes up to realize it's a dream probably caused by him being racked of guilt from having to cannibalize another person to survive now on the highest level he's been on is paired with an energetic man named baharat he seems ecstatic to be on such a high level believing he can finally escape the hole with the cooperation of the people above he actually manages to get the attention of the people on floor 5 which is a first for anyone we've seen in the hall and now it's pretty obvious that they're just mocking him and have no intention to help but baharat is blinded by his slight chance of freedom he's willing to overlook that [Music] they say if he throws up the rope the item he bought into the hole they'll help him up he leaves gurang saying he'll see him on the outside again like everyone in the hole the instant reward has blinded him not even offering his new cellmate the chance of freedom baharat could mean spice which explains his personality being incredibly intense and flavorful he extends his hand out to the people on the fifth floor who in turn scout on him which uh i'm not even gonna show because this is a family friendly channel garang saving someone who was willing to leave him in the hole shows his empathetic personality is still present but bahrain is too blind to even see that quite literally i mean he's been he's been scared to him he's on floor six but might as well be on floor 200 because both have the same chance of making your escape we can take that elevator down the field i also love how when we see floor zero there is no security you don't see anyone in the film wearing you know black combat overalls and a machine gun because the system doesn't need that the administration knows the natural greed people have will keep them all in equilibrium too desperate to eat is thrown an apple by goreng much like the untouched apple he picks up at the start of the movie they're both willing to ignite change they just need the motivation to do it you can tell that they're different from the rest from how reserved they are with their portions meanwhile the people below fight each other just to get what they want that he's a survivor and after one more month he can finally leave the hole to get his diploma he just needs to focus on his own survival this is where he's given a choice to focus on himself and escape in two months all to take on immiguri's advice and become the change he wishes on the [Music] world focusing on himself might be the easier option he's on floor 67 has access to near infinite food but the next month could be another spent deep below and him already injured and weak probably wouldn't have much of a chance if things with bahrain turn sour he tries to talk to bahrain insisting he's going to travel down the platform to ration out the food and wants him to help is that someone above him will always stop him someone that doesn't have an instant reward or repercussion for not doing something and even if somehow he got to floor one the highest of society people can be without being the economy itself there's no one who's going to catch the rope the administration wouldn't have gave bahrat the rope if he could have escaped with it now going on a tangent this did actually make me think can't people on level 1 escape anyway i mean surely they could just jump on the platform and ride up one level but then again i think that's why the platform itself is never explained how it moves we just know at night it travels back at lightning speed the only justification i have is the platform travels at full speed and then stops instantly when it reaches floor zero or the people on the higher floors could just leave when they wanted he means the entire system he believes if he can break the social structure of the whole he can create the solidarity that imagury was striving for and baharat saying the whole as a whole he's referring to humans natural greed and unwillingness to change foreign so back when goreng was on floor 202 he wasn't going crazy he was biding his time conserving energy and using his fingers and the tally chart to mark how many seconds it takes for the platform to lower to each level pretty obvious that goreng is lying to him there's no way you can ride the platform to the bottom just to ride it to the top without being splattered i just think baharat is so self-deluded with the chance to escape like earlier with the rope he's willing to not acknowledge the consequences [Music] the next day they break apart their bed frame to use as weapons knowing the lower they go the more desperate people become ridiculous i like how the two don't engage they're no better than to speak to those above because there's nothing to gain out of it they reached the first floor below them and goreng says no one gets any food until floor 50. as these people eat every day and go one without food the man is twisting the word messiah on goring imagury said he'd be the messiah who'd free everyone but at the moment all he's doing is taking away we get a montage of gurang and baharat descending the hole threatening anyone who comes near the platform it's great seeing the mostly materialistic items people are bought into the hole maybe they had a use outside but in here unless someone's got something sharp it's completely useless they eventually reach a floor with a man baharat recognizes someone he clearly has a lot of respect for [Music] you [Music] they explain their goal but he argues that words come before violence instead of threatening everyone they come across they should try to win them over with words he also brings up that even if they do succeed and manage to ration the food out to everyone who will care the administration is a consciousness entity it's not going to suddenly implode if everyone collaborates scene embargo i are above the rest completely blind to the suffering below but they are still people so there's a chance the group can use a symbol to reach them the old man suggests a plate of food to reach the top being completely untouched which would at the very least throw them into disarray possibly starting a change from the surface [Music] taking the old man's advice of words before violence baharat tries to convince people to join their peaceful protest this peaceful protest goes about as well as you think the peaceful approach is short-lived and they resort back to violence which has worked so far [Music] the problem is as noble as their cause seems to be they're forcing their brutal ideology on other people probably killing a fair amount of people who would have survived another day without their input i've avoided saying the word capitalism the whole video because it's painfully obvious that's what the opening of the film is trying to criticize look i get it all right we all play bioshock a man chooses a slaver base but goreng and baharat's socialist mission to unify everyone isn't faring off much better with them becoming another source of oppression for the people in the hall to deal with even reaching floors where they hand out food they still beat people who ask for more eventually the two start reaching floors where no one's alive and the platform doesn't stop meaning garen's theory of being 250 floors could have been wrong all along being attacked and tried to save her baharat does the jump kick so high i think i've only seen that in dying light the two are heavily injured during the fight but come out victorious mihuru is already dead from her injuries no time for goodbyes or the generic i love you speech the platform is already moving and they jump on the next scenes are a lot slower with fading transition shots and masses of bodies of people who surrendered to the hole you can see a single lone man throwing his money at the two knowing it has no real value down here no food is left except for the panna cutter the message they want to get to floor zero the platform finally stops at level three three three hold on a minute 333 and there's two people on each floor but but that means is there another agenda here anti-christ do you know what a milf is yes they're prepared to travel upwards but see a child hiding underneath one of the beds possibly the child mehru was looking for all this time going against what imagury said [Music] the platform descends without them seemingly into the abyss gorang says to throw the panna cutter away but baharat refuses strangely enough the room doesn't change temperature as it should if food is kept on the floor with nothing else to do with the panakata they consider giving it to the girl [Music] the girl is meant to represent complete purity something impossible surviving at the very bottom of society where nothing could possibly thrive at night gerang reaches for his book don quixote and begins reading it while trimagassi appears and begins mocking him against [Music] wakes him up to tell him the girl is the message if the girl survives to floor zero something that shouldn't even be in the hole floor zero will have to question everything and that was a dream within a dream bahrain died from his injuries and the next morning gorang takes the girls to the platform and they ride it down together coming to a complete stop at the bum wants to ride with the girl to the top but trim agassi tells him the message requires no bearer this is gurang telling himself that he's too corrupt to travel with someone so pure and innocent the killing and cannibalism he's committed just to survive has forever changed him and he'll be seen as just another product to the administration accepting his death while the girl rides on the platform to the surface becoming the message of change the whole needs and that's where the film ends no not even joking it just cuts to black i was originally really annoyed by this being so invested in a film i'd like to have an actual consequence happen to those above gatula arita the director said himself he believes the lowest level doesn't even exist and gurang and baharat die before they arrive what happened in the final act is just an interpretation of what he felt he had to do i mean this would make sense a lot of the final scenes don't add up like gorang reading from don quixote even though we never see him take the book with him when he looks up to the higher levels we don't see a single person despite every previous shot in the film we always see people sitting on the edge and being serious what are the odds they actually won against a guy with a samurai sword and a wwe wrestler the girl is real though and apparently there was even a scene taken out of her arriving on the first level but that would leave much less up to interpretation but the girl never seemed to reach the top it reflects the uncertain future our society has i get it the ending is very ambiguous almost to a nauseating degree okay but if it was clear-cut we'd have much less to talk about after viewing the main point is the food is meant to represent anything you value money power success or even actual food we're not sure what the administration's actual goal is but most probably to view human nature in a microcosm to understand and control behavior or to hopefully create change they can apply to the outside they clearly have abundant amounts of food and only share a fraction of it with the platform each day i personally like to think they're more ignorant than maniacal not knowing the suffering that's happening right below them much like our current society i can't i can't i can't say the word society seriously it's up there with gamers one thing that's important to note is the panna cutter shown earlier in the film could be the same one that goreng and baharat take down with them maybe that made it to the top instead of the child or maybe that is the child and it shows that all their struggles caused nothing but a slight inconvenience to those too obsessed with perfection there was no way gorang was able to fix the whole because that would mean fixing society altogether creating a utopia is incredibly difficult when humans are naturally greedy and self-serving people that survive on lower floors don't understand they need to make changes not only to help others but to help themselves in the long run gorang suffered from extreme chaotism by the end of the film wanting to make great change but not understanding the limits he has but even if he died halfway on his journey like the director implied it's a much more noble death than starvation on a lower floor it sounds like a depressing end maybe change was started or maybe we just saw visions of a dying man who changed nothing but i personally believe great change will happen inside the hole and gorang is a symptom of this possible change if one man tried to change so much more will follow either by witnessing him or by sheer coincidence much like how he was placed in the hole [Music] [Applause] [Applause] go [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] a bit rambly here but yeah thank you for watching i know it's been a literal month without me uploading which is way too long uh hopefully this video can suffice with that still working on some like other projects and stuff as well i want to try and focus on long-form videos uh and thank you for the story fire sponsor on this video much appreciated i know a lot of you complain about sponsors and you don't really like them but i'm trying to make them as spicy as possible because i've moved to long form videos instead of uploading every other day and now sponsors are pretty much like 90 to 99 of my actual income because youtube revenue unless you're like a minecraft let's play it it's absolutely horrendous like the swearing in this video would have knocked about two-thirds of the possible ad revenue this video would have made just straight off so that's not too great but yeah again a rich person cries about money it's just yeah it's very self-entitled i hope you all enjoyed uh i don't have like a patreon or anything but if you want to support just follow me on stuff and actually check out the sponsors because usually with a sponsor if you download the product or check it out i'll actually get a click through and that'll help me like secure more sponsors in the future makes my portfolio look very good me like many my next video will be an in-depth review of what happens if someone bought a big chungus birthday cake into the hole holy one
