Seriously though as always this is an amazing video I absolutely love how well pyro always explains what works and what doesn't in his own perspective about a piece of media but also seamelessly incorporates some of the best modern Internet humour into the reviews. Also he's alway seems so intelligent going into the deeper meanings and stories beyond the surface level plot, like an english teacher but more epic

[Music] the Far Cry franchise as of late is fell into a pit of mediocrity not inherently bad games just incredibly safe to meet those sweet sweet boardroom goals the usual argument is the second and third games of the peak and everything afterwards kind of tape it off Far Cry 2 has a lot of gritty realism with managing your health your weapons health and partners who can get too much hell 3 is way more superficial and removes a lot of the risk but it was more accessible and set the precedent for every subsequent Far Cry game you can even see in interviews back in 2011 developers act like FARC writes who never happened and when directly mentioned they try to move away from it mechanisms to the game I know we - we had their malaria anything like that for three I mean there's the things that kind of went down pretty well from Far Cry 2 there other things that maybe we've decided to kind of move away from and pray our own stuff now and as Adam Kovac from inside gaming back handedly quoted like skyrim with guns look he's excited and excited people tend to say really dumb things especially when trying to say something nice feels like skyrim with guns I'll be talking mainly about Far Cry 3 in this video I don't don't worry you'll you'll get your spot actually this is a topic I've wanted to make for a while but I kept pulling you off I'm only now doing it because I accidentally recorded the whole game in 4k and now I have about three megabytes of disk space left Clark Row 3 was developed by a large amount of Studios Ubisoft assimilated massive entertainment reflections redstorm yourself Jack I need to stop Bucharest and also that one guy they kept tripping out on fetanyl outside the head office they begun by evaluating the constructive criticism Far Cry 2 receives immersive healing animations relevant to what form of damage was taken now forget that let's have you wrap a bandage for 99% of all damage so when you do have a different animation they'll praise us for having hidden details to be fair when you take explosive or full damage the animation is different but most of the time you're being shot at so you'll probably be seeing the same band-aid animation over and over gun jamming which forced you to switch weapons on the fly scavenge enemy ones or invest heavily into upgrading particular firearms now too much depth if we did that we might scare the under edges away they said the Far Cry 2 map was brown and depressing and people didn't like how you had to take a bus to get anyway alright you know what it's permanent island turn the saturation of another bunch of fast travel points you can go to any time but what uh what about the characters I mean although realistic though they were pretty forgettable fair enough let's give each major character a unique motion-captured intro and also give him some of that Fenton alpha guy outside keeps tripping out on November 29th 2012 lads we've done it despite weak preorder sales I really feel like this game will be a success yeah maybe we shouldn't have put out you know our rather most hyped game of the year just a month before this shut up Michael it's all black ops 2 small how dare you question Juba softs marking I give you a fate worse than death let's see yeah that's it Michael from admin I condemn you to green panda games a company we have majority shares in you will now make casual mobile games for all eternity Oh we're worried oh yeah now Far Cry 3 is as incredible as its bland it's a game that tries to ask what an ordinary guy would do in a life-or-death scenario who would you save and whose head would you step on in order to get what you want and all that can be answered just as soon as you help out in the bulletin board an open-world game with a first-person perspective Far Cry 3 takes place on the rock island's fictional archipelago and Indonesia I know this because a character says something in Indonesian one time each island has a very subtle name - what encompasses such as single-player north single-player south and co-op the islands have many inhabitants pirates from the Pacific and Africa American privateers the rakia who are the natives of the island you can even find remnants of Japanese soldiers who sell their world war two even Zheng He a real-life a hundred percent Chinese explorer visited the islands to store his treasure in the 15th century San Jose had that if Zheng He is non fictional and the rook islands are fictional there's about a 50% chance this really happened so even though the game takes place in modern day close enough you can see how harsh the islands been to any of its inhabitants slowly driving them insane from the isolation and conveniently placed medicinal herbs it's only really the Mercs they're truly able to make it a home here there are actual civilians in the game you can encounter them in the field which was the first for a Far Cry game but they're usually a breaking point or just insane anyway I'll deal with you later when first starting the game we're presented with an Alice in Wonderland quote making comparisons to how the player is Alice starting their journey into the rabbit hole if you guys couldn't tell before YouTube I was a philosopher next we can see your friend group enjoying a holiday on the rock Islands the entire intro plays copyrighted music so just imagine a song that was popular in 2012 playing here it's a mash-up of early CGI cutscenes before the game was released unused assets and standard gameplay you and your American friends guide I've gone to the rock Islands it's a final stretch of your holiday across Asia but plot twist the island is full of pirates pirates that want to sell your friends on the black market and they're all voice-acted by the same man maybe it's like a extended family or something after watching the intro we're introduced to the game's poster boy and without doubt the best villain in Far Cry history that it's crazy this is vast Montenegro shut the [ __ ] up and pretty much the only reason I made this video but before I could talk about vas I have to talk about Jason Jason Brody is the playable protagonist of Far Cry 3 he's betrayed is your typical Cali bro dude more of invaders Chris here pretty much spouting more one-liners than the aftermath of a Capcom boss fights hi know I learned that in France always thought you had a crush on me initially a pretty generic dude but not too blank for the player to insert themselves into take that silent protagonists see Jason is purposely portrayed as a tallit brain so it's even more jarring when the island takes hold of him and manages to affect his sanity better in the beginning you've been put into a cage with your older brother grant you're not sure where the rest of your group is but your main goal is just to escape grant kills two pirates to help me break out he's an army veteran as destabilizing as this scenario is to him he's gone into complete autopilot to ensure your safety when you first get control of Jason you can't take down and hide bodies like your brother has the only option you have is to throw rocks to distract them as much as an adrenaline junkie Jason is he's never been in a situation like this and is relying on his brother to do the dirty work you hired inside a hut and fire want more speed hundreds of luggage cases this isn't just pirates getting lucky this is an entire operation you found a table covered with passports and grab some supplies including a map that's too low register towel but it definitely isn't the rock Islands after you and Grant escaped the camp into the jungle he gives you the main goal of the game does it say where Riley is we're gonna find him we're gonna free the others and then we're going home it's honestly pretty cool teaming up with Grant I mean he's the only person in your group with any kind of combat experience hopefully next he'll give you a tutorial on how to survive and defend yourself you can barely hear what vas is saying your attention completely focused I'm holding that key down grant isn't someone we knew but he was pretty much the only friendly face you've met so far and when he finally dies of a wound which there's no way of stopping you now truly feel alone first the betting on whether to kill you now or save you for later gives you 30 seconds to run into the jungle sending his horde of pirates after you this is where Jason claims his first of many kills totally in self-defense this was a bloodlust it was a fight-or-flight scenario kill or be killed and trust me if Jason didn't defend himself he'd be dead 40 yards to his brother you can even see Jason physically recoil from the kill terrified date she's taking someone's life I mean imagine how you'd feel knowing you took a life in self-defense shortly after Jason falls into a river a hand reaches in to pull him out and the Tyrell car plays I like this intro a lot it keeps its scripted segments limited so it doesn't go full-blown called a jewy fast killed your brother and called a nuke on the UN you've got to stop inflation you can already tell by the end of the game Jason Brody is not gonna be the same person when you wake up you realize you were rescued by Dennis a man originally from Libya and wearing a US military jacket he appears just as out of place as you do but unlike Jason Anand he's managed to find his place and accept the island you have the right to take my life but no I will also take yours don't do it Jason yes the Martin puck you're now in a mannakee village a small isolated community far away from vastest camp the people seem to be enjoying what restricted life they have dancing drinking and telepathically playing the drums [Music] this is also where you start getting messages on that tablet you stole not giving much away apart from being on your side and they'll contact you soon they send bits of information for every character plant and animal you encounter with a tinge of cynicism this isn't just a quirky item description this is an actual person feeding you information with no police or military force on the island and no way to contact the outside world you have no choice but to trust Dennis going to free that means he's going to show you the tutorial he barely gives you enough money to buy a pistol and basically facilitates the game's tutorial that you brought the grant would of teaching you how to survive on the island also while you were sleeping Dennis fitted you of the tattoo which is your skill tree and you fill it off as you gain XP and complete missions it isn't mandatory to level up but it makes the game a lot easier with perks like moving class that when crouched and being able to take down thicker enemies it's really cool seeing this sleeve grow on your arm showing that you're becoming more in tune with the game saying there's even a neat little glow every time you upgrade a particular skill the trees split up into three sections the Heron makes Jason more mobile being able to sprint reload and skip YouTube videos faster you also unlock a neat ability to aim down sights while promoting something Call of Duty would steal seven years later the spider is the conventional stealth tree being able to do quiet things quieter and getting more loot in general the shark skill tree deals with healing and direct combat giving you more health and resistance the damage can be bringing injury allowing you to experiment totally brain-dead concepts more often Plus unlike the other two trees there's actual sharks in the game making it the Chad tree all the trees also host takedown abilities animations that interesting kill anyone they come into contact with some of them I didn't find much useful like the underwater takedown as it was incredibly situational but it's still nice to have that option the twist is that the main way to upgrade your tattoo is to kill this helps plays into the themes of Jason ending up as corrupt as the island itself I mean you don't have to kill you could just collect layers from deceased World War 2 soldiers or relics that the locals have misplaced but Caban this isn't a point and click game you should be out killing pirates coward after purchasing your Liberty the greatest democracy the world has ever known then it sends you out to claim your first radio tower oh boy I hope you like climbing ladders because there's a lot of that do I even really need to explain them it's a high point in a Ubisoft game after reclaiming one your showing points of interest in the surrounding area although there's never much point of visiting these areas as it's usually a copy-paste building or cave for the chest inside the radio towers themselves have signal jammers the Pirates put on to stop the locals from being able to contact each other you'd think after disabling the jammer Jason would ask if he could use his newly acquired phone to contact any kind of outside help but nope he just goes straight back to Denis who gives him a mission to collect plants and animal hides you can even find billboards promoting an election for a president of the islands so you'd think there'd be some remnants of government here you know people aren't trading in bottle caps it's pay for money but nope apparently learning to survive the island as a nomad is much more important than finding your friends immediately now our teacher the tick down now our kid now now now now it is done as you now Dennis also shows you the math layout and honestly I think it's a major step down from far cry 2 I loved far cry two's map I think it was really stupid how a piece of paper had a constant ring tracking your location but at least it attended something fresh if you wanted to know where you were you had to put down your weapons and pull out a literal filing cabinet of paper and rummage around trying to find out where you are even driving wasn't safe if anything it was more dangerous traveling 60 miles an hour over the giant piece of paper and your plane the map entry does a good job displaying everything you need animal locations parts of the island under pirate control it's serviceable and really safe after completing the tutorial you get a call from the phone you stole that one of your friends nobley your girlfriend liza has been taken to an outpost nearby I'm not really sure why you'd let the Pirates know you were coming but you know Jason's still a toilet Brian at this point Denis Uber's you towards the outpost and this is where you meet the rocky at the only friendly faction in the game it was in the truck the bracket audience the truth we'll live at the heart of the island Denis in the rocky out let you go to make the initial attack yeah I mean they they seem really invested in the safety of your girlfriend Jason the images giving you to tell now you must wait and before I can even assess the situation I noticed that Far Cry 3 really likes to throw tutorials at you did you know that crouching makes it harder for enemies to spot you know you can press the seams open Josh honestly turn these off as soon as possible 99% of them you'll learn nothing new and it just disrupts the flow of the game but hey if you didn't know the W Keys what moves you forward maybe you should keep it on this being a 2012 game it still looks amazing thanks in part to the water and lighting effects but if you go into any interior without lighting the difference is really noticeable I think that some of the far cry 3's gameplay would be accessible for all the gameplays are very deep to begin with shoot bad man sneak up behind Batman grenade Batman maybe roll over bad man with car on its own it's all very superficial the enjoyment comes from when this mini bad men and how they all interact with each other and the world around light someone just [ __ ] shoot me the Pirates are somewhat similar to fears replica soldiers although very dumbed down in comparison they're not very clever but totally compensate for this with their dialogue [Music] while the replicas were genetically engineered soldiers directed by psychic commander the Pirates are just people no matter how much cocaine is surging through their system Lady Liberty to tell me that winners don't use drugs though shoot at you shoot where they think you are spread out to flank you I am rather looking forward to this analysis blow at you when they're in greater numbers and that completely [ __ ] scared when they realize they're the last one left combine this with the animals on Rock Island as well some of which are carnivores and sometimes a whole squad of pirates can be wiped out before you even get there this really makes the world feel like it's existing around you and that you're not the center event and this is incredibly helpful for immersion and far cry 3 does that in spades animals themselves have their own purpose being able to skin them and use their hides to abrade your inventory capacity each of which is divided into several subcategories forcing you to travel all over the rock islands to collect them all [Music] also if any of you are looking at playing this game I highly suggest you do it on the master difficulty you'll die in about two shots but it helps build that sense that you're totally out of your depth and each combat encounter I had in the early game I usually survive by total accident or pure luck there is a lot of variety in the game but Far Cry 3 suffers from a lot of feature blowing stuff that sounds cool but isn't executed well you have a first-person cover mechanic but it pushes you around so much more shooting I never found any use for it in a trailer or promotional screenshot this would look great but doesn't translate into the game very well there's an unlockable ability where you can drag bodies of enemies you've taken down but once you start moving you drop the body not being able to pick it up again on top of that I've never really had a problem with enemies finding bodies like most it puts them in a cautious state not even going for an alarm you can lose bodies for supplies a really cool concept keeping the immersion of physically grabbing an object like in the previous game but by having such a long animation with no variation it gets boring very quickly looting enemies is the exact same key as taking their weapon off them so enjoy accidentally picking up a pirate's a.k when you go to loot them the only way around this is to equip the a.k yourself or play surgeon simulator trying to position yourself perfectly where you won't pick up the weapon by the station you can harvest plants for injectable buffs I assume the plant made the glass syringe as well these can help you with things like holding your breath longer being fireproof and repelling animals the only problem is they're incredibly situational I never died of suffocation under war it was usually the sharks that cut me first well well well how the turntables there are a few missions that require you to be underwater for long periods of time but the devs put in oxygen canisters making the syringe totally pointless being fireproof is useless apart from its single mission involving a lot of dubstep and why would I want to keep animals away when I skin them for hides to sell for profit also the animal repellent doesn't work on the show you can get actually useful syringes like healing but there's so many med kits you'll find during gameplay I never felt the need to craft one my favorite syringe is the one that lets you see other plants so you can craft more syringes Thank You Ubisoft it's always been my dream to be a botanist far cry is a you game so there's gonna be a lot of junk there are characters that despawn and ones that didn't rapture share about three collective brain cells code seems that don't transition well into gameplay tell anybody but a conversation you're [ __ ] dead how's it going down grades from e3 and you or Jason Brody is crazy flowing props in gameplay and no way to adjust the music volume in game which usually drowns out the experience honestly for Ubisoft game that's not too bad guys a - also did I mention Far Cry 3 has a stealth system I love as well how when the pirates find the body they're only lightly alarmed but when the dog spots me seemingly every single pirate in the camp knows my exact location like most stealth games in the early 2010's crouching sets off a nuclear explosion of the white phosphorus factory burning out everyone's retinas making you impossible to see and standing up is like shouting to everyone where your Minecraft coordinates are I'll even edit Birmingham if you want the [ __ ] ball [Music] you can't even chew out light sources to stay hidden like come on Microsoft anyway after your first real combat encounter Jason breaks into the safe room and of course no one's there if they were the game would have been 15 minutes long and Ubisoft stocks would have crashed but Dennis tells us he's found one of your friends and they're currently residing with dr. Earnhardt this is where the game cuts you loose you can go to the doctor's house to progress the main plot or you can fumble around and do any side content I am gonna talk a lot about the side content when you get to the mansion you're introduced to dr. Owen Hart you can tell he comes from a good place but he's quite estranged not totally in sync with the rest of the world around him he has a hard time maintaining eye contact and always seems to be half awake duct ernhardt here or in and out as the case may be yeah Dennis said you'd be able to help me that you found one of my friends one of your friends oh I am distilling a batch later today what this is probably due to him tasting his own products he's allowed to reside on the islands he provides the Pirates with drugs Daisy's the friend dr. Earnhardt is taking care of your now deceased brother's girlfriend she's recently gotten a fever from cutting herself on a new first tree this is apparently a real-life tree so toxic it's been described as seven of eight down nine death meaning you can only take seven steps uphill eight downhill or nine on level ground before dropping dead the doctor sends you to get some mushrooms for an antidote he seems incredibly keen on Daisy safety I'm sorry for the rush nothing girl must live but you and me both also just as a side now why did they put this stack of money on the table if you're never allowed in this room you can only be in this room outside of a cutscene at the very end of the game so why I have this glowing stack of cash and a cutscene anyways you go into the cave and step on some mushrooms releasing spores giving you a nasty trick this is where we get a look into Jason psyche he's an incredibly conflicted person he wants to save his friends but he also sees the island as something that can help him develop it into a stronger person you can hear him turning his family down for important events clearly someone who can't commit then you hear this and probably one of the most important lines in the level this is great because it actually explains how Jason can use weapons so easily in the game I'm sure the statement is a bit hyperbolic being a crack shark with a cup of weapons doesn't mean you'd know how to perfectly operate a grenade launcher but it at least makes an attempt there are so many games that feature people using firearms but there's some kind of agent 47 when clearly they've had next to no training that was a shaky effort mr. book doctor this is reinforced when Jason mentioned something similar when Dennis first offers him money to pay for his weapons I've never shot anyone I also like the touch at the vegetation growing around Jason this really helps signify he's slowly been consumed by the island leaving civilization behind further proven by dr. Owen Hart's greenhouse being pulled away from him 300 IQ statements only on this channel after the trip ends you find the mushrooms but Jason look out for the hoard of low-quality PNG bats this truly is like starring with guns and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats all swooping and screeching and diving around the car and a voice was screaming Jason takes a single mushroom don't ask me why didn't take more and returns to Daisy who's now awake this scene by the way is great you barely ever leave the perspective of Jason's view and you can really tell he's tearing up just by his voice grant uh-huh do you see now I'm so sorry [Music] I'm sure Daisy would have cried actual tears but Ubisoft spent the rest of the budget making dr. Earnhardt small 3d and before Jason leaves Daisy tells him one last thing whoever did this with no verbal resistance on Jason's end I believe Daisy is although unintentionally beating Jason's power fantasy to get revenge and justice for his brother gran Jason thanks the dr. Phil helping him and asks to let anyone else take refuge there the doctor declines saying it's too risky but as soon as Daisy speaks he instantly changes his mind he won't think to look for them here please doctor bring the rest you will die otherwise agnus how can I refuse you later on you can find an entry on your tablet about dr. aha apparently fleeing the UK after his two-year-old daughter Agnes fell from a 10-story window like most of the inhabitants on Brook Island aleck Earnhardt has come here to forget and by doing business with the scum of the island he and continued to live in his fever dream just for a little bit longer shortly afterwards you get a call from Dennis this is a pretty common thing in the game getting a call from him after a mission but if you pay attention to what Dennis is doing he's feeding Jason's ego by telling him any progress he's made is solely by him and no one else yeah she's fine Thank You Dennis it's almost like Dennis is trying to make or break a new champion out of you for the island unconcerned dove what it will do to your psyche now all in all mushrooms of the deep it's a great mission and the teaser for what's to come encompassing the islands personality and how it will change Jason forever the only problem is it took me about 10 hours to reach it because of all the site contents now I will throw in a disclaimer I did this to myself I chose to do every single side mission before tackling the main story because you've a soft side content as mundane as it is triggers something in my eight brain to complete all of it you've got the radio towers you know we're already covered that bang-bang smashy smashy Wow look at this map unlocking a certain amount of radio towers gets you free guns but you you already bought that gun what why don't you buy a map instead to keep feeding your brain trace amounts of dopamine as soon as you unlock the radio tower a car spawns directly below asking you to drive supplies under a time limit also unspoken rule but double points if you kill the guy you meant to deliver the supplies to there's also our jobs you can pick up from civilians on the island what's that gentlemen that looks like someone in the crowd of a PlayStation 2 racing game you want me to collect dog tags and the reward is cash how generous these Islands used to be crawling with Japanese soldiers you'll find a jet body you snagged dog eggs shouts to that Ubisoft MPC voice compression it's just perfect you're on board excuse me sir you want me to take pictures of lost tablets you people sure do lose a lot of things on this island and again the reward is cash and you sir you'd like me to find some plants well here you go what I don't need plants for you I need them for my medicine all right let me uh let me try again why are you giving me the plants I need for my enema okay this is getting a bit tiresome now the ingredients I'm so forgetful thank you my boy we're helping an old man out please take a copy of the recipe and the reward is a recipe to find more plants yep sure thank you if you couldn't tell most of the side content is fetch quests but like a drug mule with the cartel on my back I just couldn't stop doing other people's work unlike some other sandbox games there's no invisible timer counting down and it makes the rock islands feel more like an extended holiday than a place you actually need to escape the problem is by giving Jason so much freedom from the star it creates a huge disconnect between gameplay and story you can do all the side content before meeting Daisy but then you create a Jason that seems totally apathetic to his friends safety he can seem super invested in the cutscenes but if he's been hitting radio towers and doing our jobs for the locals in his spare time we know that's not the case I feel that they could have easily fixed this by I don't know maybe Jason has to raise money across the island to escape it sounds stupid but at least then you'd have a casual link between him doing side stuff and caring about his friends safety I just need time I need time we just need bagel a couple missions later Daisy starts fixing a boat that can get everyone off the island why not just have a side objective where Jason needs to raise money to fix a specific part no hey Daisy my brother's dead and you're slowly dying but I need that tape here hide to hold more arrows sorry Queen but wait there's actually good side content as well content that's questionably better than the main story itself gamers I present to you the outposts [Music] died across the map these are the Pirates HQ where I assume they relax and appreciate the fine views of the island killing all the parrots here makes the surrounding area a safe zone unlocks the fast travel point weapon shop and the bulletin board but it's how its presented for the play to tackle that really makes these stand out most of them have an open top making it perfect for a bit of recon of enemy patrols shoddy fencing which usually always has an opening to sneak in and a big red alarm that pirates can use to call for backup if something goes wrong these could be destroys although sometimes they ignore that and seem to just call support in any way this is all but begging you to treat it like it's a stealth mission even rewarding you more XP if you take one without raising an alarm one outpost only has two guards but about three years worth of RSPCA rescue dogs who all seem to mistake you as the owner who abandoned them all those years ago it's peak Far Cry content because you could tell the devs were really having fun here but why sneak in when I could just load a car with c4 and roll it into the camp what would Crazy Taxi now that's gaming some outposts also have caged animals oops would you like some seasoning on that later outposts have specialized pirates like snipers that can see you from afar heavy gunners that you can't silently take down this early in the game and most importantly MC right enemies on their own and never really a problem especially melee based ones that have no ranged attacks it's when they work together using the foilage as cover to coordinate attacks they become a real challenge a shotgunner on his own won't be a problem but when closing the gap or you're already dealing with range pirates the variety always keeps Jason moving in my opinion some of these outposts the Deb's wanted you to be spotted because in this game it's infinitely more enjoyable when things go wrong instead of the way you plan but by reclaiming these outposts you start a rather large problem the surrounding area is clear the pirates good for natives but bad for gameplay with no pirates wandering around the island the game becomes incredibly boring pirates can interfere with your side missions patrol the surrounding area and sell bro blocks this is just replaced with civilians crying go for a grave yeah just get over it he'll he'll respond soon this in turn gives the rack yet nothing to do so most likely they'll be eaten by a tiger or ask you to fix their car with a repair tool you never have seriously it takes up one inventory slot carry monogrammed even claiming an outpost the rack yet do nothing they pull up in their Jeep I assume after a five-hour drive of listening to Kidz Bop God's plan on repeat they get up the car walk around like they did all the work contributing absolutely nothing I'm not even joking you come back to these outposts an hour later it's a ghost town there's no pirates or rocky as nothing here but you know what there is one thing the rocky a do one thing have a conjugated society have the outpost but there is still more to do you should take a look at the jobs on the bulletin board can you help out with the items on the bulletin board continue in the park of the warrior check out the jobs on the bulletin do more to do taking care of jobs on the bulletin board would help us grateful we have the outpost the bulletin board is an unlock after taking an outpost giving you an option for more side missions [Music] you've got what it Dead where you have to kill a pirate captain with your knife it tries to recapture the essence of the outposts but the areas are too open and you don't have much chance for experimentation plus one time I failed for literally doing what the game asked me to continue in the path of the warrior you also have path of the hunter where you take it upon yourself to reduce the animal population as much as possible before the WWF show you have to use a specific weapon to hunt an animal each time but you want to know a secret yes Ubisoft gave you that pump-action shotgun to kill those endangered bears but they didn't say what kind of shotgun you have to use go to a merchant by spas-12 and now you have a fully automatic shotgun and all this right in the game is removed all in all these missions are pretty fun especially when the devs give you a purposely underpowered gun there's one mission that gives you a scorpion and ironically the weakest weapon in the entire game the aim is atrocious meaning you'll have to get up close and you have to kill three black bears the animal with one of the highest hit points in the game also it's impossible to kill one of these things with a single mag leaving you totally exposed during a reload there's also rare variants of the mission unique animals and pelts they can unlock the final tier of your inventory capacity all of these have to be killed with a bow I assume because using a gun would make the hunt even more easy oh nice are you playin time to redeem a wallpaper I see you can find huge red stones called trials of the rakia please ask you to kill as many pirates as possible in a certain time limit and to be honest this side content is actually really fun being given infinite grenades or infinite Rockets in a short two-minute window is great while also trying to keep in mind you can shoot barrels to extend your time further my only criticism is that they're all a little bit too easy I never really felt like I had to put in a hundred and ten percent effort just to get the top score what else is there oh yeah I remember the game has actual side missions as well a lot of them are just fetch quests like I mentioned earlier but some of them have gripping storylines one mission a woman asks you to investigate a recent plane crash but the twist is you find the plane is decades old and the woman was definitely probably a ghost you're in the village nearby yeah why Hey oh nothing only that there's no old woman who lives here very spooky another asks you to photograph dead pirates wait isn't this just a fetch quest you take the pictures only to find out the man is a necrophile I have to analyze these pictures of pregnant people posting them how brave another woman asks you to spy on her husband thinking he's cheating on her only for you to discover he's gay and the woman was a ghost all along alright I made the last bit up the guy is actually gay though that's why he wasn't with his wife you're being unfair about me about Rebecca about me yeah another woman asks you to scare a stalker away by shooting near him no I am I instantly got reminded of a similar side mission in GTA 4 where you had to scare a girls abusive boyfriend without actually killing him in gta4 you can kill him and the scene plays out differently but here I I don't know why he's even scared of you completely bulletproof all of these quests except one give no unique reward just cash money which is mostly used to buy in upgrade weapons extended magazine and silencer no thank you I'll cover my gun in a cool-looking pain engravings give you no tactical advantage whatsoever Wow if you wanted you could be a sweaty assassin putting silencers on every single gun with no drawbacks whatsoever but the game becomes incredibly boring when you do that to counter this they could have been the system where silencers could wear down and eventually break so you couldn't rely on them as much that would really help create an unexpected chaotic scenario that this game revels in and now it's the optical sights you you seem to be damaged and hard to actually look through you've got scratches on the lens and sun rays blocking the view I thought that was really cool like you know it played with the jungle setting of everything already being pre-owned and it didn't turn the optical sight into a click to win but when you switch from the optical sight to any sniper scope it is completely pristine it's genuinely like it's a pre-order bonus or something like it would have been cool if you could buy I don't know like qualities of attachments like a cheap scope that would be full of cracks and grime and more premium price scopes that would you know float like this another problem with the weapon attachments is they're way too affordable and basically overpower every gun if you equip a semi-auto rifle with a scope and a suppressor you'll basically have a semi-automatic sniper the enemies have no chance against even playing on the highest difficulty I had to handicap myself by taking off silencers and equipping lower tier weapons otherwise the gameplay just wasn't interesting they could have countered this by having better weapons have ammunition that costs a lot more and is incredibly rare this had forced you to save better weapons for special occasions talking about the weapons a bit more I love them I think they perfectly encapsulate what the rook island is a huge dumping ground for the corrupt there are a fair amount of guns in the game and pretty much all of them hail from far off foreign countries it carries over the same concept of smuggled weapons from Far Cry 2 except those guns could actually Jam where do you get the weapons it's a romantic notion that they all came out of the Soviet Union after the collapse I move weapons I profit from circulation you get a ceasefire in Liberia both sides you think this like 2,000 tons of guns no they sell them to me I resell them wherever the next war is starting the rest mostly come from old European armies so some of these guns are very old had been sold bought and sold repeatedly the economy of Rock Island is actually pretty interesting items you find on the island that would have next to no value and now treasures and vice versa a gold chain trash I now a crack pipe all of these as well have Dark Souls tier item descriptions giving you seconds of world building the collectibles in this game are a mixed bag letters of the last to give world building telling stories of Japanese soldiers slowly going insane finding six of these unlocks a tanto knife that instant kills all but heavy enemies in one here I like the letters because there's only 20 of them but I don't like the relics in Tower of there's a hundred and twenty relics on the rock Islands each one representing part of Jason's tattoos by the relics are found in caves shark relics are found underwater bore relics are usually hidden behind a wall that Buzz Lightyear's laser could destroy and harun relics are found in high up places so unless you have a glider you'll be rubbing up against the geometry trying to mantle up to get them collecting enough relics unlock special syringes at 30 relics you get untouchable which makes you invulnerable to everything full damage not a problem gunfire of those nerf guns although for some reason the devs didn't seem to code in QuickTime events so they still instant kill you collecting 40 relics unlocks touch of death a syringe that lets you instant kill anything in one bullet although Ubisoft missed a massive opportunity by not making the rocket an instant kill where else was there oh yeah the the main story after making sure Daisy is okay the next couple of missions involve sabotaging the parrots business and trying to track down the rest of your friends I ran the game on ultra settings so you guys could get the best quality experience I'm not sure why the TV survives does Ubisoft watch parasitical your mom these couple of missions proved to Jason he can deal with the parrots alone he doesn't need help and while this is making him into a stronger person something Dennis in the rocky at one all this killing is slowly making him lose parts of himself in the process eventually Jason finds Liza his girlfriend and freezer from the Pirates nearly dying multiple times in the process evacuate area and during the escape you can tell that Liza and Jason are dealing with the situation a lot differently now you could argue that this is just you know quirky Nathan Drake dialogue Jason trying to be the funny man in the tense situation is that an ancient Tibetan ritual dagger in your pocket m-maybe I'm just happy to see you I mean at one point he screamed serpentine a reference to the 1979 comedy film the in-laws you know what let's smoke our tobacco pipes and indulge what the writers will probably try to aim for Jason right now could be having a complete power trip he comes across as uncaring for his safety or his girlfriend's he just wants the naynay as many parrots as possible before the ride stops he doesn't even seem glad to have escaped s'more that he's just dragged up so many kills furthermore when consoling Liza he seems totally disconnected from her fears and puts himself as the guy who's gonna fix everything you think almost being killed or sold into slavery spy visa calm down okay listen I'm fixing this even when being reminded of his brother's passing Jason just seems to trigger off considering it less important it's normal for people to Stonewall as part of the grieving process or to focus on other things so they don't get consumed by emotions but by not properly taking the time to acknowledge grunts death and mourn Jason is isolating himself when his friends need him the most wise is taken to a cave underneath dr. Owen Hart's house this is where any rescue friends end up they have another conversation about nearly dying but Jason seems to shrug it off not heeding Liza's warnings we nearly didn't make that escape Lisa I've got this don't worry hi I started blasting back thank God I went down to Gunther's guns and picked up a spare now you guys want to know a secret something not even matpat the candlestick man is found out in a corner of the same cave you can find a pot of pills I assume dr. Owen Hart left behind given the prompt you can eat one and flash back to Bangkok days before you skydive to Rock Island fifth floor Thai massage it's actually really jarring seeing all your friends and family together it's a far cry from the situation you're all in get it get it get it far cry the name of the tie bar which I'm not even gonna try to pronounce means far shout so you know you can't be more on the nose than that there's no big twist here it's just you and your friends enjoying a night out your objective is literally to buy everyone drinks you can tell however that this has cut content that they quickly try to reapply into the game any NPC that isn't from your group looks even more cardboard than usual and the majority of the club is blocked off by two guys trying to woo me ladies I guess Jason social anxiety won't let him pass but whatever also the cutscene where you get the drinks is an exact copy pasted from the intro video after taking your shots you wake up apparently wondering to the far side of the cave no music plays just you're left alone with your thoughts on how Jason ended up in this situation honestly it's amazing world-building reminding the player that Jason did have a normal life before all this it's sad because I bet most people miss these pills the first time playing the game there's no mission marker just a tiny glowing bulb I wish the game had more story building segments like this eventually Jason gets a meeting with Citra the Rockets leader she's a very interesting character I'll talk about Leia initially she has no interest in a soft American white boy like yourself and just when she's about to turn you away you mentioned that vast killed your brother she suddenly seems to take interest he took my brother busted and I will do anything to get him back no your tablet updates with some pretty vague information about her they call her a warrior goddess I know that she's resisted vasts poit and they're pirates every step of the way she gives Jason a bottle and tells him the following bring me what has been lost Denis seems extremely happy Citra even wanted to speak with you Wow yes it's really firing you Denis is clearly someone who fiercely respects Citra she's the person who gave him purpose on the island after drinking what I guess is liquid LSD you trip out again but instead of looking into the past like with the mushrooms you look ahead at possibilities that could be Jason follows a man in a white suit and can see what looks like to be a ceremonial dagger we can only assume that that is the thing that Citra once returned to her jason wakes up explains his dream to Denis who tells him where to head next he also fits your arm with a longer tattoo sleeve giving you the ability to unlock more perks that were previously locked this diegetic Lee shows that Jason is improving turning into a resilient warrior the rock yet desire and Denis is rewarding him with more capacity to grow his strength Dennis's directions take you to bad town which is the north islands biggest village there's nothing really to do here apart from one vendor and a poker game the rest of the villages are all beset dressing if you couldn't tell from the town having the word bad in it it's not a great place coaster taster who's got my poster give me back my poster you you can even find one woman if you stand around long enough she'll break the fourth wall talking directly to the player calling Jason a puppet did you reach your already could see your strings white boy dance she even references characters from Far Cry 2 primarily Ruben the war journalist what about me Hodgins looking for a story to redeem it also your main target in the previous game the jackal I was a smuggler in a ship captain chuckles sold me out after seeing the guy in the white suit ladies and gentlemen can I present to you a you myself trailing mission this [Music] all right to be fair with them there's only one in the entire game but it's it's terrible you have to follow the guy at a snail's pace where he periodically stands still just to inhale the fresh rotting fish I guess also if you go more than seven micro meters away from him a countdown starts or you fail the mission I'm hidden beyond some boxes about ten yards away from him but the game thinks I need to move in closer also the devs clearly didn't know what to do if anyone actually got spotted by him so he just turns into a normal NPC and flees when you eventually follow him into his house like most people he doesn't take too kindly to strangers you have ten seconds to tell me who you are before a remotely detonate to see horner the table in this whole place explodes like a Papa Jesus I doubt it Jason Jason Brody really yes this is Willis Huntley a CIA agent undercover on the island to keep tabs on illicit activities I personally love Willis he's a purposely over exaggerated American putting patriotism before anything else comparing any scenario to something stereotypical with American culture promising but do you consider yourself a pretreat mr. Brody thing is the wheel paper he doesn't just put his hand on his heart while holding a hotdog at the ballgame he's almost like any hideo kojima bad guy but instead he works for the player willis gives you the mission to destroy the Pirates business so the big boss Hoyt comes down to investigate and to those who haven't played the game before it's a mission where you burn weaves and it plays a Skrillex song again current year returning to Willis Jason asks if he ever leaves his base which he gives a very interesting answer to hey you ever go out on recon with your guys it's a reason I have the American flag in here and here the society there's order out there the jungle synapses and our brains go dark little by little you forget where you're from who you are quite over traumatic but he does make sense by lying to himself and calling his base home Willis never needs to venture outside therefore never exposing himself to the jungle jason has done the opposite so much he's became involved with the tribe the killings the tattoos the weird LSD trips Willis hasn't had to deal with anything like that he knows the island is dangerous and chooses to disconnect himself until he returns to America after saving one of Alyssa's contacts and taking a picture of some low res documents you find the location of another one of your friends Oliver Caswell you find and liberate him as he's about to be sold off I assume to star in the 17th taken film and the Pirates respond to you sniping them by trying to shoot Oliver and I've been trying to incapacitate him they're just they just go for kill shots finally meeting Oliver face to face he acts a bit too calm and nice I thought this was lazy character writing but Oliver assumed he was being taken back home to his parents after his dad paid the ransom money and they're putting the screws to my dad he was about to give them a ton of money Holley you would have been sold right into slavery afterward even if he paid some heavy [ __ ] man after dropping Oliver to the friendship cave Liza gets your attention showing you she's built across four grand I'm building across Brett oh yeah remember your dead brother you've probably done all the missions and collecting and killing have distracted Jason from mourning his brother Liza is trying to be Jason's anchor reminding him of the life he has to go back to once the adventures over but Jason keeps pushing her away he doesn't want to leave the dream world because all that waits back home is mediocrity I'm not saying you shouldn't go rescue I'm just worried it's affecting you he said don't worry I'm taking control in my life for the first time that's a good working really hard on that I get it you're stressed out we can meet up later I love you also while you're in the friendship cave you can talk to characters you've rescued and their dialog varies wildly talking to Oliver he just says he wants to get stoned you know nothing really of know now if you'll excuse me I have a buyer - an heir but one time I talked to Daisy Jason opens up to her a lot more and not in a good way I never thought I'd be able to kill someone the first time it felt wrong which is good right and now it feels like a winning are you okay yeah yeah this is probably one of the most powerful scenes in the game no dramatic music to tell you how to feel just Daisy's horrified expression of what you've just said she doesn't even know what to say you just kind of both agree to say nothing and leave it at that you can also take another pill before leaving you trip out again in the same club you were only more is now accessible you can buy drinks at the bar apparently dying after three shots why could no video game betray alcohol right you can even go onto the dance floor and bust some moves again it's stupid but it reminds you how even though you're basically in hell of the minute there are other people still just living normal lives the flashback ends with Oliver and Keith being harassed by two locals he's taken the dominant role and standing up to them no more fighting promised as you wish find someone else guys [ __ ] you ass I do he's our turf yours what Oh we'll see about that later on you're contacted by Willis telling you that one of your friends Keith Ramsey has been bought by the pirates and sold to a man called buck you track him down in the bad town bar and within the first conversation you can really tell what kind of character he is your buck that's not my birthday she must be Christmas I'm here for my friend Keith ah sorry doesn't ring a bell you bought him from Hoyt he said his name was book Hughes is a vile character and represents the first major hurdle jason has to overcome at the minute vas is nowhere to be found probably off harassing more locals will and who is conducting business on the southern island book represents the sexual desire of the island if you notice when you first meet him his eyes are checking you out constantly and he compares most situations to a sexual reference come on ask me what are they looking for like no [ __ ] Kane you for that I really should but you know what I want I can't Keith instead Jason even foreshadows books character before he meets him proper so his name his buck and he lacks tough yeah I know it's a Kill Bill reference but I'm really trying for this video all right if book looks familiar to anyone that hasn't played Far Cry 3 that's because mafia City uses his character model as an asset in the ads they stick all over YouTube even you Sam Fisher too like how is that I've been a lawsuit over this book wants you to find a knife the exact knife Citra once returning to our tribe in return he'll give you back your friend Keith he won't let on to why he needs it but he seems very protective of it I've seen nice [ __ ] night it's art well history and this and you and Keith for actually squeezed together the next five missions are dedicated solely to book as you try to track down the location of the ninth now these missions vary massively in quality but first you need to get information off an anchored ship for the location let me be clear now a mission like this actually sounds pretty cool you know a stealth mission where you have to infiltrate a ship and sneak around taking down occupants not to alert any suspicion [Music] a little [ __ ] not that I want you to get me buddy a confident [ __ ] lazy Jennifer the only problem is there's only two ways to get onto the boat two ladders either side on the back end of the boat and when you climb up either of these ladders you'll probably be instantly spired from enemy placement sending the whole ship into high alert I don't even know what they gave you two separate ladders to climb if they're essentially right next to each other it would have been cool if there were you know actually inventive ways to get on the boat instead of just wooden ladders me what if you used the hang glider instead they're dotted all over the island and this would be perfect to get an aerial drop on a mission or maybe even like a hatch to get into the ship why come on man even banjo kazooie did this when you get into the ship and find the laptop it's protected by a heavy gunner but he's facing his back towards you keep in mind it's impossible to do a heavy takedown at this point in the game the perk you need to do it is locked until you meet Citra again much later into the game heavy gunners are incredibly slow only being able to walk covered in Kevlar armor and for some reason the only enemy in the game to wear sandals they're incredibly resistant to small arms fire attacking multiple sniper rounds in the face just to drop them but thankfully again your boy Ubisoft added a flare gun into the game that is so fundamentally broken as a 50/50 chance to either do no damage at all or instant kill someone that walked within a 5 kilometer radius Jason gets onto the laptop to find the location of the dagger he does that thing with the laptop that happens it like every media ever where he presses a bunch of random keys and the laptop starts displaying hundreds of Windows with way too much information for anyone to process but hey it looks cool right you could have at least you know touch the trackpad hurry up you piece of crap you grab some weird disk thing and then the game goes full michaelbay mode of course the room was booby-trapped we know how parrots work that I trust anyone even themselves the boat sinks and you have to try to escape all it floods it's a pretty cool sequence you have air canisters to replenish your oxygen a generous thought to people who didn't bother to upgrade their lung capacity in the skill tree and you have to push away pirates that are so hell-bent on looking cool when they kill you they still have their aviators glued onto their face you escape the ship just in time and when you wake up on the beach buck is there to greet you know the woods are lovely dark and deep they come on there you go fun I project it wasn't on the boat finding out you didn't get the knife he begins to taunt you by saying how Keith isn't doing too great see book is like vas not a psychotic but still enjoys playing with his food he maintains the composure of hoy but the insidious intent of us I believe on these missions he knew all along with the location of the knife was but he sends you to your death multiple times just for his amusement this is further proven when you follow the compass to the next marker books they're waiting for you [ __ ] if you knew where I was supposed to go why just sensation Jason and get your knickers in a twist I'm not playing a bloody game you are I'm just a spectator you expect a good show right also he does that video game thing where he walks behind you and just disappears from the entire planet well I don't the devs think that people are gonna turn around when I cutscene in any way you entered the bunker and find that the Pirates are already there I can only assume books sent them to the location hoping they'd kill you and pillage the compass of your body once you kill them a blow a charge they were planning to move through the level it changes drastically to something far cry 3 really hasn't tried yet once you get past the giant hole in the wall there are no pirates they only managed to push so far underground and now you're an uncharted territory the environment changes massively as well slowly turning into this ancient sunken city collapsing around you there are pitfalls big buttons you have to press in there's even a puzzle we have to shoot support beams to raise the water to escape but exactly 300 IQ gaming but it's nice to the devs tried something new here it made me feel like I was back at my PlayStation 1 playing Tomb Raider before I actually had any real life responsibilities if you're an artiste kid please like and subscribe but as soon as it's getting good the mission ends you pick up another compass piece there's a cave-in and in true Indiana Jones fashion you have to escape you can even see an overview of the entire lost city but you don't get to explore it the game doesn't let you clearly the devs we're gonna try something new here and I just wish they stuck with it after escaping your greed by book again who turned sour when finding out you don't have the knife again I don't have your knife all right no no no no Jason that's not alright too busy playing games aren't you but fine I just got play game app in detailing donkey whispers please work also alludes to knowing the location of the knife the entire time you know where I'm supposed to go don't you know we're headed he even teaches you a little history lesson about the island before each mission about empires betraying each other for treasures stashed underneath the island he seems to be more interested in your venture than the actual knife itself listen up everything he with his treasure ships at trying to collect riches for the means one [ __ ] thing he he's got this captain gold Lynn calm and Lynn Kong I was [ __ ] AWOL what do you think happened to the treasure treasure hunters been after that crap ever since even the bloody chaps told the island apart looking for but now he knows where it is and if you're wondering yes I have tried to kill him but unfortunately he has plotter Muni this mission takes you into a mineshaft where you have to kill racially insensitive pirates there's also a couple of useful ischemic sin this mission that are never seen or used again there are mine carts you can push to create cover from sniper fire but it's literally pointless there's only two snipers that you can easily run past and the minecart provides no cover from enemies shooting over the bridge high this difficulty by the way goes there's pillars you can shoot to crush enemies with rocks although why would you when most of the enemies die in a single shot anyway I repeated this segment about three times to try and actually crush someone with rocks and I just I could never get them to line up right you enter an area the Pirates haven't touched yet again repeating the same layout as the previous mission but this time there are Komodo dragons however they survive down here by the way but there's no other animals or water maybe this is my personal hell for all the Komodo dragons I've killed before anyway same thing as last mission pickup thing in cave K pulls in and book is there to greet you [ __ ] off the property can't but this time it's a little bit different instead of being an errand boy Jason builds up enough courage to properly confront buck stay away from me he only backs down once he realizes if he does this book ends the game and kills Keith prematurely you're calling the shots now that what you're doing Hector apparently I'm no longer calling the shots so dismantle everything and Keith wait you're calling the shots twice books phone screen a texture of the whole phone itself this time before I met book I got a group of rock yet together drove up to book but when they were confronted with him they got in the driver's seat and took off I assume they've got more bulletin boards to take care of the next mission is finally acquiring the knife itself but not without another mission with gimmicks that changed next to nothing in game play this cave has pits of sulfur they're more of a nuisance than anything there's something that burns nearly 200 degrees Celsius it really takes a while to chip away at your help not I think a dog bite doesn't more damaging game the devs must have known this because the death animation by sulfur is just you scratching your arm of it and then kneeling over it would have been cool if you could have shot the Pirates on weak platforms only for them to fall into the sulfur pit for like a unique death animation or maybe our platforming segments where structures would break in the awake crank some kind of urgency again the sulfur is a really cool idea but really underutilized anyway you know the school by now go to an unexplored part the cave but some Komodo dragons grab thingy cave does fall in leave cave I love the concept of these missions but just because it worked once doesn't mean you get to repeat it in the exact same format two more times anyway for once buck isn't waiting for and nearly broke the game for me the only thing stopping me from barging into books how was the prompt didn't come up with the door but I guess you could argue this by saying Jason's changed since his first encounter with book he's colder and more demanding by book sending you on those suicide missions he accidentally made Jason stronger more kills means more tattoos making Jason more powerful story and gameplay was go [ __ ] yourself you give the knife to buck and find Keith clearly in worse shape than any of your previous friends he recoils when you go near him begging you not to hurt him we said that you I can't take it's a stark contrast to seeing his dominating personality in the club flashbacks this is someone who's trapped and afraid the game doesn't outright say it but it's pretty apparent that book bought Keith as a sex slave and only used him as bait for you afterwards actually what our said was Keith could leave with you but you're not going anywhere we're walking through that door and I say Jason goes lightheaded and when you come to the room has changed the walls were removed and lights hang from apparently nowhere [Music] the background doesn't look plausible but that's the point Jason out of his own mind has created an arena to confront bucket I believe this is his way of coping with the situation assuming you don't fail the QuickTime event you kill buck in a quick clean and efficient way there's no joy taken in killing buck he was an obstacle in the way when Jason comes to his hands shaking realizing what he's done he's killed many pirates before this but buck wasn't just a faceless Merc he was someone who wanted to dominate and control Jason and without book being involved in the story I don't believe Jason would have the strength to take on Vasil hoy plus it's another Australian off the earth so Keith begs you not to tell anyone about what happened clearly traumatized by it just don't tell them about this okay oh by the way he tells you that your younger brother Riley is dead and he just walks off I'll get Riley and we'll be back in Santa Monica in no time Riley's dead believing his brother is actually dead Jason snaps applying Sony Vegas vignette filler promising to kill them all I'll get them all of them I swear lyza again concern for you wants you to stay and grieve you can tell she cares because she actually Beeney is though he's in the intro video but never named I assume like a character that vast killed off-screen did your friend shut the [ __ ] up you could even seem talking but like nothing comes out of his mouth specifically now we're just seeing where the flow takes us you also have a new guy on your group that Jason introduces oh hey everyone this is Doug he's the DJ here and all around excellent Shai your older brother gran is the only person to say how dangerous the idea is that's what I'm talking about jump line that's your new friend Doug if that even is his real name is the entire reason your brothers are dead your friends are stranded and Jason is slowly going insane he's the catalyst for the entire game if you never met him Jason and his group would have just gone back to America and lived their average lives there's no proof he's a spotter but it can be assumed I am donning mostly Reds much like vas and his pirates oh yeah and the the lead writer confirmed it on Twitter so yet not much to go off back in the present you can talk to Daisy again and you can really feel Jason's arrogance growing he's sleeping seems pretty [ __ ] out how's it going out there I feel like I'm invincible see you guys I'm worried about it this is the way Jason's always acted to his friends but the islands changed it killing Bach was a massive turning point as much as Jason is now his own master it's corrupted him he begins showing his knife after Daisy who isn't too pleased what's that oh yes this is from the tomb of a Chinese warrior well if I were you I get rid of it why this knife is going to save us don't let the pretty design fool you knives take people away they don't bring him back later on you run into Dennis telling you he's leading an attack for prisoners taken by the Pirates then proceeds to run in the opposite direction back inside the temple you link up with the rocky out who clearly didn't get the same mocap budget that Dennis got it gives you the explosives and after planning what clearly isn't c4 you get a call from Liza and dr. Earnhardt's phone I'm kind of busy what's up I'm not sure yeah okay Jason now seems indifferent to his friends escape like you know she fixed the boat you know the only thing that can guarantee you safe travel off the island the thing that can actually bypass the magical barrier that walks you back to the island Jason should be relieved but he's so consumed with helping the rakia and liberating the island his home of California with vegan options of the burger menu just seem completely alien to him now when the ambush actually begins you're not ambushing pirates these guys seem a lot more organized like actual soldiers I'll talk more about them later you eventually get to the convoy truck and inside is vast Montenegro is the heart of Far Cry 3 and the only real reason I'm making this video one thing to note is that in the 35 hours I play Far Cry 3 only about 15 minutes had anything to do with vast it's stunning how such an amazing character was so underutilized in this game this is a curse supersoft can't ward off in future installments either four hours of gameplay bad guy pairs for a cutscene four more hours a game play bad guy appears for another cutscene repeat for about two more times and then the bad guy dies maybe sometimes you might get lucky and have an antagonist mock you on the radio but that's nothing compared to seeing them in person bus is the head of the Pirates as most of them lack any sort of real personality to save time and resources most of the pirates are their face is covered with helmets and bandanas I think their biggest character development is stating the various STRs have contracted vas is important because he is the island and everyone on it he represents what people will become if they spend too long there he is the decay that transfers onto Jason as he starts his descent during the events of the game I think I'm so infatuated with vas because we see so little of him there's three main villains in Far Cry 3 arguably a fourth I'll bring up later but honestly you could scrap all of them and just have vas and the game would be infinitely better white versus employer just reminds me of the mobsters from a John wick film and book a washed-up hitman is just every Australian when they don't get their eighth bottle of VB I'm here for my friend Keith vast is first introduced by basically telling you how screwed you are he rebels in the chaos unlike Hoyt who only traffic's people for business vas is a loose cannon he gains nothing by having this conversation with you there's no information to extract he's just tormenting and humiliating you but to him it's incredibly cathartic Jason [Music] why aren't you laughing now like you did up there what is this like fun anymore have I failed to intervene he loves to remind you that anywhere apart from where you are right now is freedom and you've lost that right you see the thing is up there where you up in the [ __ ] skies you thought you had your finger on the [ __ ] trip but Edmund Oh down here down here Wow this is all enabled but the amazing voice and motion-capture of Michael mando in a lot of games characters that emotion captured are usually voiced by someone else but Michael fits both roles so much so that he appeared as himself in much of the promotional material leading up to the game's release I want a cheeseburger pushy energy great way no auditioning for far cry 3 you've a soft thought he'd be too much of a loose cannon and dropped in when I initially auditioned forgive you saw the character of glass does not exist and I gave him anything but what they were looking for and obviously I did not get the part only to call him later telling him they're making a new character based entirely off his performance but I get a cough a few weeks later saying you'd be soft like your audition so much they're creating this small character based on the audition you have done the character is going to look like you it's like water under the bridge there's even clips of him performing in his mocap suit and for someone in a black bodysuit with little balls all over him I could totally tune out of that just to see vas in his element they mention you on the radio lose idiot [ __ ] when you gotta get to base please stop swearing or so why didn't Michael mando win an award for the best he posed in videogame history there's a web series called the Far Cry experience and Michael nails the acting of vasts in real life it's a lot more black comedy than the base game like I don't think there's a scene in Far Cry 3 of us blowing a trumpet put your gun down no you put your gun down you do you shoot me okay force others Christopher mintz-plasse a real-life actor playing himself and is captured by vas and tortured in various advertiser friendly means and at the end of the video it asks you to find his body in Far Cry 3 which she actually can he looks a little bit different though I assume they didn't have the budget to add his likeness for an Easter egg that 1% of people will find it's not until several hours into the game you see him again as you're captured by pirates and wake up to him doing a ballerina dance covering everyone in gasoline and this is where he actually opens up about himself will give you that Inc ask you a question will give you Danny forgive you daddy my sister give you daddy I think I miss you one of us you think that me too like me see as warped as vas his brain actually is he still has high respect for family and the values that it brings [ __ ] you okay later on in the game you meet Citra who leads the rocky at the only friendly faction in the game well apart from the civilians but I wouldn't really call them a faction Citra is actually the sister of us and one thing I never noticed despite the sibling rivalry as much as vast talks about his sister Citra barely ever mentions vas only when you kill him later on the game does even acknowledge his existence and why they separated he left me the tribe his birthright quit Volker not him away with money drugs became a monster still Citra gives a pretty black-and-white take on what happened but vas has a very different take on it there was a time where I'd do anything for my sister and first time I ever killed was for my sister Shiina think about our loved ones right my [ __ ] love boys hey comedy right [ __ ] time this is not what someone would say who knowingly betrayed his family this sounds like someone who was burnt by his family forced into a corner and had no way out and honestly I believe vas his brain is totally scrambled from the drugs or too much fortnight but as insane as he is he's always honest with you I've already said it but Michael mando does an amazing job conveying the pain versus feeling here even including that nervous chuckle at the ends that he knows he's gone overboard vas is actually so offended he can see Citra on you via the tattoos you've collected throughout the game he decides to burn your bodies so there's no remnants of her mark it's really bad that secret don't you are because not even weed Oakley was doing miss you completely Citra hurt vas so badly that he wants all memories of her erased the first time you can see vast interacting with someone that isn't you he still goes on about family it's something cemented into his psyche no please that's [ __ ] [ __ ] family is an anchor with me in the eye now as insane as vassa's i personally think it's all an act a way to intimidate everyone around him or even as a self defense mechanism several missions into the main story agent Willis plays an audio recording where vas is talking to his employer Hoyt the man whose Citra allegedly I'm astray and the way vas acts in this conversation is nothing like any other interaction in the entire game okay the thing is her fast seems calm and collected the complete opposite of every other encounter you have with him usually via seems to have a struggle with himself making snap decisions and acting incredibly Iraq I'm sorry but here he's docile and almost sounds intimidated by Hoyt I think this is vastus real character someone who puts on a show because he knows any sign of weakness the island will kill him and a person who can't be understood is easily the most dangerous the most pivotal scene with us is when he captures you and gives you a speech about insanity I know it's basically a meme at this point but for good reason it's an incredibly memorable speech he talks about the insanity of repetition doing the same thing over and over again knowing it won't change the outcome insanity yes doing the exact same [ __ ] thing over and over again [ __ ] to change that is crazy the first time somebody told me that I don't know I thought they were emotionally so cool I sure the thing is he was right and then I started seeing everywhere I looked everywhere I looked all these [ __ ] tricks everywhere I looked doing the exact same [ __ ] thing over and over and over and over and over again thinking this time it's an incredibly bleak worldview but in the rock Islands it makes total sense you can't just keep killing pirates aimlessly they won't progress the story you can't just keep killing and skinning animals at some point you're gonna make all the necessary upgrades making the killing worthless you can't expect to take every enemy outpost down the exact same way each time because of different enemy placement and rank but vast has fallen into the cycle of insanity himself without knowing it he repeats himself constantly makes multiple attempts to kill you only for it to blunder and you escape even after this dialogue he pushes you into a flooded pit tied to a cement block only for you to escape yet again versus using the Earth's elements against you but to no avail after escaping you're confronted by vas again seemingly much calmer and more collected now knowing there are no other eyes watching him instead of using an elaborate way to kill you he does it the same way you've been upping people the entire game did I ever tell you the definition of insanity no we're then presented with a quote from Alice in Wonderland oh you can't help that said the cat we're all mad down here I'm mad you're mad how do you know I'm mad said Alice you must be said the cat or you wouldn't have come here there's a lot of these quotes spread across the game initially I thought it was just you know superficial garbage oh let's have a quote for the Bible very deep you guys alright come on let's go see if your little friend Amato wants to play but reading into them they do have a fair bit of meaning everyone Rock Island is mad in some way or another some friendly others not so much the only people who have managed to stay completely sane are your friends sheltering themselves in the caves physically blocking themselves off from the outside world they might go stir-crazy but that's a lot better than the jungle waiting for them up above even during the loading screens you can see words forming like mum taste kill friends die the most basic of words being used in random sequence almost like we're trying to understand the island waking up from vasas why is this now fourth attempt on your life you have to crawl through a mound of bodies to the surface a bit on the nose but you know you've been given a second chance being reborn into the earth this is for you Ubisoft a golden medal the subtle storytelling entirely made out of chocolate get it guys he's being he's being reborn because the opening looks like her jaw I got [ __ ] to do next week tomorrow got dreams and stuff we've been through a lot today we got really far Denis is there to greet you shocked that you survived the bullet until you pull out the lighter that stopped it the light of that vast put in your chest pocket plainly this later resize the final encounter with vas is when you storm is compound a small island the top right corner of the map you can tell it's the bad guys base because they're strippers and they play copyrighted music but plot twist vas knew you were coming all along and baited you into a trap after killing the remaining parrots you enter vast his personal chamber only for him to surprise you and stab you with a knife seemingly killing you again but yet again you survived waking up inside a fever dream you meet vas seemingly wanting you to kill him when the prompt actually came up I declined to shoot him unfortunately the game forces you to do it anyway assumingly from Jason's bloodlust are you enjoying my sister's company she's gonna make over worry about it [Music] you chicken pull the trigger so dying so nice after fighting off dozens of apparitions of us he seemingly invites you to kill him as Amara [Music] to be honest I really didn't want to I just stood there looking at him knowing that once I kill him the game becomes infinitely more [ __ ] without him initiating the takedown vast doesn't even seem to fight you only trying to defend himself one thing I noticed after planting the knife inside him his facial expression changes I mean most people's faces would change after being stabbed with a knife but vast looks can't end looking away as he almost accepts what comes next [Music] vasas death is the only antagonist who doesn't have a QuickTime event he doesn't try to put up a fight well I mean you already killed him in a dream right you never see him again so maybe he just escaped and hopefully we'll see him nope never mind a dev confirmed his death on Twitter going back to his insanity speech vast mentions killing someone who told him the definition of insanity was crazy the first time somebody told me that and you end up killing vas the guy who told you the definition of insanity by killing vas you haven't broken the cycle you've joined it and that's why personally I think vas isn't the bad guy here it's Citra [Music] Citra to look my is a character I've purposely skimmed over up until now she's a girl gamer that's native to the rock Islands citro like I said earlier is the sister of us both of which share a similar toothless like I mentioned before as well she leads the rakia and only takes interest in you because she can see the warrior Jason can become bring me what has been lost she's the reason you encounter book if it wasn't for her wanting the knife you never would have met him part of me believes Citra never cared for the knife but knew you died trying to get it or come back as a completely different person but this knife is etched into Jason's mind he has visions of it even sees vast attacking him with it only for him to then use it on Vance both of which are impossible because you gave the knife to Citra for safekeeping he begins filling Jason's head with stories of warriors overcoming the impossible tricking Jason into thinking he can be that warrior the ability to conquer anyone and anything but it's been a bit of a resistance [Music] so it's you know women are in a nature setting like to be conquered bababooey and like every boomer and a UK close down hallucinogenic potions not knowing what they'll do to you only to pleaser in these visions you can see characters in the game being replaced by you Jason is becoming the Warriors Citra once stripped of any morality before you face vasts you can see yourself replacing him and Citra you three are one in the same you all have the capacity for great violence ironically jason is designed to purposely oppose bus with a much softer face and defined by his blue shirt or vast wears red complete opposites on the color spectrum in the 2012 III demo just before you shoot vas you can see his model being replaced by Jason you mean by following citrus path you're becoming another vowel before your final encounter with him Citra forces you into a trick when you fight a colossal demon she's conditioning you that vast is someone who isn't human an impossible creature that can't be reasoned with rewarding you with sex after your victory giving in to your primal gamer desires the boss even warns you about Citra before you kill him knowing what's it rose turning you into she's gonna make over worrying about it dr. sir Xetra picked up on Jason's insecurities and that feeling of never belonging back home and manipulated him to feel lucky as a purpose here even to the point he doesn't want to return home when the boats been repaired he'd rather leave his friends to pursue the destiny citrus itched into his mind because the boat almost fixed we get to go home I'm not going what are you talking about I found my place it's here on this island Jason are you serious you can talk to some of your friends one-to-one after breaking the news the only person who wants to stay is Olli but you convinced him not to stop stressing right now because Ali is staying with dr. e you have to go back why you know why to tell my mom and Keith you can have some small talk about life back home in America good luck back on Wall Street it's all about the hustle Liza and Daisy won't even speak to you heartbroken by the news just comb this is citrus first major step to making Jason into her warrior not killing buck or her brother or any pirate on the island but by betraying your friends those closest to you what if you could do that Citra can do anything she wants with you so Troy begins telling you that vs. death wasn't enough he was just part of the problem and the root causes Hoyt volca boss's employer wait vodka not him away with money drugs became a monster if he was still my brother Boyd will pay for what he's done for now she's content your main interest is killing Hoyt and your friends won't get in the way of your progression I actually started seeing the tattoos on my arm is some kind of a bad thing now they did help me but I feel like it's slowly killing Jason chipping away is morality in exchange for becoming this mindless Connor [Music] a good comparison to the tattoos is the rut mechanic in Hellblazer they both represent entirely different things but in a really distinct way they're connected in hell-blade the rot and seniors arm is physically killing her but in farcry Jason's tattoo is figuratively killing him shaping him into someone else a good example of someone's Citra has fully converted is Dennis you can talk to him later when he's drunk off a single beer - later - any video game developers drink dennis mainly talks about how he's travelled the world and he's never managed to fit in anyway i worked as a mechanic in a garage he tried to make fun of my accent it tried to pay me less the other mechanics i found it ironic he thinks he's free despite having less control than ever before Citra has taken everything away from him but he's been conditioned to believe that he now has true freedom I mean he does in a sense he can go wherever he wants to do what he wants but only by sacrificing his entire life to Citra it's sad to say guys but Dennis is a [ __ ] after vassa's death you make contact with Willis the only man that can get you onto the southern island and fly you over the invisible barrier the devs put in he also tells you he has an operative on the second island waiting for you that reminds me my man Sam is embedded with Hoyts troops if you whistle the star-spangled banner in thirsteth crazy [ __ ] bar he'll know I sent you leaving the north island we get another Alice in Wonderland quo this time it's Alice saying that she isn't herself Jason isn't himself anymore he's becoming a porn for the rocky at Willis gives Jason a wing glider to safely land on the South Island this thing is a huge upgrade and really helps moving around both the islands you can be naught point naught 1 meters above the ground and still have the prompt to deploy it although it doesn't help you getting into areas you shouldn't Ubisoft have an immersive and realistic way to avoid you skipping huge parts of the game your biggest enemy up here is probably the birds who can glitch you out of your wing soo instantly killing you so anyway how is the second island it's uh it's not very good this is where the game really loses its steam and pretty much everything here is a downgrade now there is a pretty popular theory I found on the depths of reddit the theory is that vast killed Jason and the rest of the game is a fever dream in Jason's dying mind I personally don't think this is true but I wish it was because the South Island is easily the worst aspect of the entire game pirates are replaced by privateers generic Call of Duty men who have next to no personality they're meant to be more intimidating having better equipment than the Pirates and having actual military experience but they all act the exact same in gameplay the only new enemy type is the flamer same health as the heavy gunner but with a flamethrower instead they actually really help spice up the gameplay once they spot you it's incredibly hard to see them because they'll be constantly spitting fire at you even spotting them with the camera doesn't mark them properly when they're firing at you and worst of all the most broken gun in the game the flare gun does no damage whatsoever flamers really help create chaotic situations privateers aren't fireproof and flamers will usually kill their own guys just to hurt Jason I like this enemy gold star from me at one point it's even mentioned that the remnants of vasas forces are trying to disrupt the privateers business some pirates attack coins drug feels safe rigged bombs he disarms now this would have been really cool right seeing the privateers and the pirates going against each other creating this triangle of conflict kind of like how when the flood were introduced in Halo another faction to create more dynamic situations but apart from these videos I found on YouTube where the two groups have a verbal disagreement I could never see the pirates or privateers fighting each other it's such a wasted opportunity the second island itself is a lot more open I assume to promote the use of the wingsuit more but this comes across as very barren and ugly with nowhere near the foliage and vegetation of the first island it loses the claustrophobic feel the North Island had parrots and animals can hide in the bushes and wait but here everything's exposed I'm sure there's something deep and profound here about how the island is changing as Jason does but I spent all my deep philosophical energy on the first island I'm all burnt out now pretty much all the side content from the North Island is here to take a look at the job you've got the radio towers the supply drop missions killing normal people killing special people with a knife hunting animals some of these are actually fun though to be fair one trial of the rakyat mission copied blackops gun game mechanic where each killed Ranchi one random weapon it totally changes the gameplay as you're ready to shoot an enemy only to realize you're given a totally useless weapon another puts you in a swamp with wooden bridges and spawns hordes of Molotov pirates at you pushing you to different areas as the environment burns up around you sometimes backing up to get some breathing room is completely impossible because of the fire surrounded you and there's another one as well where you have to fight an army of helicopters with a mounted turret like it's pretty fun but what about path of the hunter now the devs realized you killed all the rare animals on the first islands was greater gear so what did the rare animals offer now just money yeah remember how you couldn't sell red pelts originally because of how treasure they were now bro just porn these off who cares the problem is at this point your arsenal is way too graded for any animal to be a threat one hunt wants you to kill bears with the starting pistol but my Jason was way too leveled up for them to be any kind of threat to him failing to capture how dangerous the hunts were in the early game the only real incentive to decide content is to get cash money which you can now use to buy new guns the vendor or stocked as soon as you reach the second island they could have added these guns as rewards for completing side missions instead of dumping them all into a menu when you reach a specific point in the game but you know give a soft butt don't worry guys there are more random side quests where you talk to strangers to help them out with their problems you guys in there take all my money I want to meet their big the only problem with these missions is that Jason acts exactly the same that's when he accepted his very first side quest but the thing is Jason has changed now he's rugged and more battle-hardened I find it really difficult to believe they just accept a question Miguel to find his wife's son's ashes and also like the first island all of these side missions have an M night Shyamalan twist at the end for example a man tells you people have been going missing in a cave you investigate find nothing in value and then when you go to leave the dev spawns in an alligator to attack you wow what a twist ingenious writing in another quest a woman wants to leave the island and asks you to get blood diamonds so she can pay a ship captain off to escape you kill somebody's get the diamonds but oh what a twist it was a ploy all along so where pimp keep the diamonds for herself when do you leave for the boat what bye I thought you were leaving the island new you're [ __ ] up and you have to kill him while the woman watches in horror this ending was so physically [ __ ] I loaded a previous save thinking that could have been like a different outcome I came to the confrontation again watch the man treat his woman with respect for about five minutes and then left the house only to realize the game soft locked me out of accessing any new content until I completed the mission completing side content does unlock upgraded versions of already existing weapons but it would have been nice to have something diegetic Lee in the game like I don't know maybe a call from Dennis I think the only saving grace here is again the outposts nothing really changed here that just as good as the first Island Fair anyway it's not the side content we won it's the story we want more Jason dissent more Jason desert you talk to a barman asking about Willis's agent Sam clearly the budget corrupt the second island hit this guy pretty hard I'm looking for a friend privateer name's Sam [Music] there's only one Sam I know also how did none of the privateers know what Jason looks like they'll attack you on sight but if you go into a neutral zone you can walk around and interact with them and they seem to have no idea who you are keep in mind you're the only plain clothes non-native on the island so I find it really hard to believe that no one except people on Patrol know who you are leave right now give me look I'm gonna cut you a break hey any way you get into a poker game and you finally meet Sam you can instantly tell who he is because this polygon count is double anyone else at the table I'm cashing out you'd like me to continue playing card you go to meet Sam outside and I guess after the cutscene they didn't expect anyone to turn around because if you do they've all despawn you work for Louis except me how is he Sam is a great supporting character and without him unconvinced the second half of the game would just completely fall apart there's no Dennis or Citra here he's pretty much the only friendly face you have for the rest of the game he shares a lot of similarities to dr. Earnhardt having good intentions but being slightly unhinged living on his own for so long in Deep Cover he's adopted the privateers attitude being a borderline psychopath ready the islands affected him like everyone else but him being undercover has given him the ability to justify his actions so he still has some morality left being around all these criminals it's too much it is so easy to fool them everybody thinks I am a bad guy because I come from Germany I was promoted because of an accent apparently Hoyt is so incompetent not a single person on the island knows what you look like only the markings of the tattoo on your arm so Sam has an idea to get you a disguise by taking a recruits uniform le dished you must enlist what's a private yes don't no arguments this is a two-man operation this mission really sucks it's the only mission in the game that has an instant fail if you spotted apart from the opening mission but in that mission you were basically handheld on what to do with your brother grant and popups on the screen here you're not told what to do but it's still as linear as the first mission meaning you have to throw rocks at incredibly specific points to distract guards also enemies seem to completely ignore the meter fill up when they detect you and they just spot you instantly and the approach this anyway you want mentality is completely gone when you can't even take different paths to get to your objective thanks to the warning bro after throwing rocks to distract guards for about 15 minutes you finally get yourself a recruit uniform the main reason you got this disguise was to cover up your tattoos having the uniform makes patrolling privateers neutral to Jason meaning they won't attack unless provoked although the definition of neutral can be argued outposts and certain missions will be marked in red zones that you don't have access to so you'll still have to sneak around much like normal gameplay so apart from the couple trucks you'll see with privateers this uniform makes no difference to gameplay it annoys me because this could have really gone somewhere you take your grunts uniform like well if you could upgrade yourself by stealing clothes from higher ranks they could even treat you differently depending on your rank in Far Cry 2 you have a reputation level and a base rank of mercs in neutral zones will treat you like complete trash but on higher levels their respect and fear you knowing of your past work it would be nice to see something like that here but instead you just treat like a nobody to everyone again a great concept but not fleshed out or like imagine if there was a mission where you had to eliminate the rocky act just to maintain your cover this would have worked amazingly with Jason's psyche he still continues to sacrifice everything just to get to his end goal I know it's a stretch for Far Cry to evermore I let you meet her but if the player is given a hitman tear disguise and the last third of the game nothing seems to abstract shortly after getting our outfit were introduced to Hoyt the leader of the trade empire encompassing the rock island's new employees I'm not going to lie we're all here to make a buck but it's the happiness of my people gets me up each morning Hoyts introduction is great nowhere near vices of course he's too far away from Jason for his words to come across any kind of threat instead of a one to one speech he's talking to an entire group of mercs not even making any eye contact with you it feels a lot less personal but it still hits all the notes of a good character intro unlike vas point seems to just be born evil with no turning point in his life that changed him my father was a diamond miner got up at the crack of dawn each morning and smoke a cigarette down yeah if you keep in mind this is the man who corrupted vas Eve really doesn't need to say much to convey his message you and Sam spend the next mission trying to get into Hoyts graces by killing pirates and diffusing bombs they plan it it really sucks that this is the last time canonically Jason will ever fight the Pirates it's a great swan song mission where they throw the rest of their forces are you what the [ __ ] is that smell someone just [ __ ] shoot hey wonder ahh I will tell height did you work with me it should grease the wheels yeah another mission to suck up to wait further asks you to get a dossier with the names of privateers who are running their own business on the sides and not giving their profit to the Hoyt after getting the book you have to escape but if you don't the game just spawns infinite enemies beyond the wooden shack until you die it reminds me of this one mission in Centro to where this limousine pulls up and just has infinitely spawning mines from it after you've built up enough rep to meet Hoyt face to face it loses a lot of tension because you've already indirectly been introduced to him before but quite managed to recapture my attention by talking about how fragile life is join me for a celebratory Cohiba that was quite a show down there I don't really smoke you're concerned about cancer that's [ __ ] cancer won't be what kills you do you know the real secret to keeping employees happy yeah the best way to see how in my opinion he's kind of like an insane store manager except he isn't insane he's perfectly sane he's someone who views life is fleeting and wants to capitalize on it while he still has it he believes that no action is truly evil if by the end of it they make a statue out of you or you die on a bed full of money he's someone who's removed all morality from the equation because it's deemed to him as a weakness as much as I didn't like Hoyt as a villain when playing the game I've come to respect him because even though he's one of the few same people on the island he's one of the most evil and he only really has any modicum of respect for Jason when he mentions de zahana hobbies cooking painting movies crystal meth what are yours I like to hunt hmm I'm a hunter myself noblest of professions I can offer you travel to slave markets in Rio Hong Kong New York this is a global enterprise he also compares contact lenses to human trafficking a stupid comparison initially open till he compares it from a business perspective look at American industry they put a 1-2-3 on a contact lens so when I'm going to place it in my eye I can tell whether it's inside out now why 1 2 3 and not a B see that way they can export it around the globe and straight to me he basically is the insanity speech that vas was talking about the repetition is his business smuggling people drugs extortion murder it's a cycle that repeats itself over and over until someone intervenes wait will never stop because you can't stop he doesn't know any other way of living when you meet other antagonists it's somewhere completely out of your comfort zone a place that makes you feel on edge a rundown Shack a cage but with Hoyt it's a well-lit clean office and that shows how different he is to everyone that came before him and then Hoyt completely ruins that character subtlety by playing classical music while he blows up a bow outside [Applause] you can see this used in the promotional trailer for height as well and they forgot to crop out Jason so it's just a recruit uniform sitting in a chair with no head he also mentions he has a prisoner that he wants you to torture whether or not you get any information out of it but plot twist it's your younger brother riling all in all this is a really good scene Riley seems genuinely happy to see you but you can't let him express that because Hoyts watching on the cameras all right keep my eye on the camera feet I so rarely get to watch another profession Riley is the polar opposite of grin while he was older and an army vet Riley is young and inexperienced one thing to know is that he wears blue most like Jason does while people like grant and vas wear red blue is usually associated with calmness and passivity while red can represent blood and violence but hey that's just a game theory you could escape with Riley now and leave the island but Ubisoft still has about three more hours of content to hit their border and deadline but for now Riley stays believe your own lies remember smile young camera on a serious note this puts a huge twist on things because up until now you thought that all surviving friends got off the island Riley being here and alive is a foundation reminding Jason of his life back home in America breaking him away from his path that Citra wants him to follow and this is the first time since his friends escapes that he's shown any kind of emotion Hoyts so pleased with your interrogation invites you to his poker game but not before you spend a couple missions blowing this stuff I mean you can't expect one great mission to be followed by another one can you this is Ubisoft we need some filler content after blowing up some fuel tanks and destroying a radio dish so badly it clips into the earth we finally have that poker game with Hawaii before the game you're given a pop up saying there's no turning back this is some pretty heavy stuff we're in the endgame now boys poit seems a lot more agitated here acting very passive-aggressive what I job okay ask anyone on the street then don't call it the game of chance Oh dr. Sam here and he'll say it's by bluffing weren't you Sam Sam looks at you ready to signal you to attack Hawaii but then this happens sorry if passwords quite apparently knew you adjacent all along it's not apparent how long he knew maybe it was the TV downstairs where you were talking to Riley that had literal footage of you and your friends being captured on it that's not a mean by the way there's just a privateer watching it directly in front of you like it feels like a huge joke you're not in on or maybe it was the fact you kept going around killing every single privateer and then someone eventually snitched it's a pretty piss-poor explanation but again the game is trying to connect gameplay with story and it usually never ends up working well ma stop chasing Brody whatever your name is slipped my mind hush tuba do you think I am we should keep playing dealers on the left right also Sam really is dead despite being able to survive grenades quite got a crit with the knife placing a bet has now been replaced with bet life because give us off know nothing about subtlety no matter what hand you play your scripted to lose height cuts off your finger and Jason assumingly from all the adrenaline spaces out to face up against Hoyt in a similar arena to barson buck this fight is ok it doesn't try to one-up the final fight vas had because the game knows it can't so this feels a lot closer to boxing counter having a knife with a quick time event one nice touch is after you actually kill Hoyt you have an optional choice to plant another knife in him failing this QTE just means he forced the ground anyway waking up Jason realized to play Far Cry 3 on pc you had to install you play and in his blind rage killed everyone in the room my exact reaction when i forget my new play logging you've now got a race to the landing strip where Riley's being transported to when you arrive you have to search the nearby buildings you can tell which one it is because it has a glowing red door oh thank God I made it oh thank god I know if you're gonna come we have to get out of here you escaped on a helicopter which Riley can barely pilot and this scene I still debate whether I love or absolutely despise it you're shooing at privateers chasing you while Ryder the Valkyries plays a bombastic over-the-top classical tune I hate it because it's stupid jason has just saved his brother from appearing in a taken sequel they're escaping his brothers dead his friends could be anywhere and all of these themes are completely ignored for funny loud music and a guy saying so many one-liners they overlap with each other I like this scene because it kind of shows what jason has become keep in mind we never leave Jason's perspective through the entire game this music could just be playing in his head like a power fantasy I'm definitely giving Ubisoft more credit than their jus here but you know it's something different than open-world battle finally escaping you landed dr. Owen Hart's house yeah remember him I do barely the house is destroyed and the doctor has mortally wounded outside they should where are they where are my friends I couldn't help the younger worries inside they carried your friends too temple rest in peace dr. Earnhardt who were painfully underused and underdeveloped like most things in this game by the way the actual act of foreign ha Martin Kevon died less than a year later of cancer at 66 I'm not aware of any other work he did outside this game but he did a phenomenal performance of earnhardt so rest in peace Martin thank you for keeping me entertained in my younger years going upstairs we find Daisy's room turned upside down and we can finally grab that money that was teased at the start of the game it only took 20 hours to get hold of it afterwards you head to Citrus temple to confront her about your friends she knocks you unconscious and talks about how far you've come where are you taking him big strong power why would you want to go back to she's proud of the progress you've made but she's worried that you'll lose everything talking about how the path you've taken isn't yet complete laughter cheese you do not let me give you all my love only want to help love you worship the man you have become lead you all to the dice Citra wants you to free yourself of the past being separated from your friends isn't enough you're still tied to them in her eyes you have to kill them to truly break the chain and become a warrior unbound of any past basically knowing that once you kill your friends you have no possible Redemption and you'll completely under her control she drugs you warping your perception of reality and you start being attacked by your girlfriend Liza firstly you lose the knife you spent so long to get then your tattoos all the hours you spend killing and collecting to unlock them all wiped away in an instant and when you eventually sober up you have your knife up against Liza what Citra wanted you to see wasn't a vision or a premonition if you go back home to America you lose everything you've collected all the hours you put into this game especially in the second half or pointless you're presented with the choice kill Liza to fully inherit the island and keep your progress or let her go and return to a life of normalcy obviously I chose the mature option but for real I think these choices are very poorly presented I literally just saw it as pic good ending or bad ending it would be nice if these choices had actual consequences for example leaving the island could completely wipe your save file so you couldn't return without starting a new game an actual consequence having all the hours you've spent completely wiped but at least you get to know that Jason got off the island with his friends joining Citra you kill your friends and have sweet gamer sex with the Citra only for her to kill you she did genuinely love you but the rules of the island come first she'll raise a child untampered by the outside world the cycle is complete and will soon repeat itself leaving the island you break the cycle and renounce all your past actions Denis who I almost forgot was in the game in his rage goes to stab you but Citra trying to calm him down takes the knife instead [Music] I love you in a really self-aware moment Jason contemplates that even though he survived and he'll escape the rock islands he'll never be the same I can't come back from this little monster I can feel the anger inside me is that a bittersweet ending Bravo Ubisoft Bravo but there is one thing to say about far cry Therese ending no matter which one you pick citric it's penetrating either way Jason is my favorite far cry protagonist I think after the criticism he got Ubisoft was scared of having such a vocal character oh that's why AJ and far cry for barely speaks and every other protagonist after that it's a complete mute and I of course Hagin men far cry 3 is an amazing experience so good that Ubisoft got lazy and copy pasted its format for every subsequent game its side content is mostly sleeper and the story loses steam halfway through but overall I'd recommend it 7 repair tools out of 10 oh hey everyone this is Doug he's the DJ here more than that better and that pickable [ __ ] all right uh what what else is there you can unlock legendary guns those are pretty cool I like the shotgun that can one-hit kill God if he's in the same time zone as you safe houses are BLAP tops you can take the SD cards out of them and they explain stories of people trying to make their own drugs apparently GHB is an epidemic in Europe and I only learnt about this by finding it in a memory card in the game thanks for teaching me drug safety Ubisoft there's no new game+ but you can continue the game after you can play it I think you're stuck in this weird limbo just before the ending all of your friends are gone all the key characters are removed from the game but look you can shoot a funny bird with a sniper now don't tell anyone I told you this once you capture every single enemy outpost you can go into the options and reset the world bringing back every single enemy outpost just to be captured all over again this repopulate the world with all the bad men and is the closest thing you'll ever get to a new game plus being able to run around the island taking out outposts with endgame Arsenal it's great the only problem I had when doing this it spawned me inside the safe room of an unclaimed outpost so I couldn't leave and rightfully so the pirates outside lost their minds you can visit dr. Owen Hart's grave to pay your respects I thought this was his wife or daughters grave but on a second plater I realized this crush doesn't appear until you complete the game Citrus Temple is locked down but you can still find and interact with raffia in the world but with some expert level parkour you can get in the back through the cliffside you can find the gallows your friends were held captive in and even the stone slab where citrus sacrificed you you can enter vas his base but it's just a husk now only really having a few raki at taking refugee there all the doors are locked Hoyts compound just spawns dead privateers and hopefully you didn't leave any loot inside his offices because the doors are locked forever Jason's also lost his privateer uniform making all the patrolling ones hostile again although for some reason the privateers in the town still have no idea who you are I'm just a [ __ ] with a rocket launcher you can still visit other points of interest but all you'll really get is another entry from Willis on your tablet I just find it funny that thousands of miles away he still has time to give you information about the island but you're probably wondering what happens if you collect every single relic on the rock Islands all the hundred-and-twenty do you become a guards get a secret ending nope you get an extra two part that does absolutely nothing not even a Uplay achievement but what guys I could see it on his wrist when he holds a shotgun yeah that was worth 10 hours right there's also co-op and multiplayer but I couldn't find a game because I don't have any friends there's DLC as well although I couldn't access it it's not really worth talking about it's got the funny fat man that's a reoccurring character in all future games Hey look there's Herc did you just strap a bomb to a monkey in conclusion if you kill too many civilians you get a game over this game sucks [Music] [Applause] [Music]
