So, what are we about to do right now?
We're actually going to go outside and see this Texas winter storm for ourselves. So the reason I'm making this video is because
you may have heard in the news, but Texas is kind of falling apart and I kind of live here.
So here in South Texas, it gets cold in the winter relatively, but it doesn't get frigid.
And it never really snows enough to notice. Unfortunately, there's a winter storm named
a Uri. It's sweeping across the nation and it's ravaging Texas right now. It left us covered
under this blanket of icy snow that we have never experienced before. And I'm actually going to
get out of this chair and show you. Because we don't have the infrastructure to deal with weather
this capacity, we are dealing with power outages, the city's actually shutting off our power.
People are slipping and dying on the ice because they are just completely not used to that.
People since they don't have power or water, they're trying to keep themselves
warm by doing dangerous things. And some people have wound up poisoned because of
it. It's very bad stuff. And to top it all off, the entire city, at least the one I'm in, Texas
as a state is shut down. Now, as you may have noticed, my lights actually are still on. I
still have power. This beautifully lit room, it's not all coming from my soul. I am
in fact in front of studio lights here, but based off of things my friends who live in
the same city have told me, it seems like a fluke, almost that I haven't experienced any problems.
Part of the reason I wanted to make this video is I was getting a lot of questions about whether
or not I was okay, understandably, because this is causing fatalities and I'm fortunate enough to be
perfectly fine. And I really do appreciate that. I think the main way this is affecting
me is because of the pandemic, I was very much focused on ordering things from day to
day. I don't just run to the store and pick up groceries nowadays. So it didn't have much food
in the house. And then all delivery services are just Thanos snapped into the wind until
the weather gets fixed. So I've been eating very interesting things. I think yesterday I
had granola waffles and pizza as like one meal. But thankfully I'm just lucky enough to still
have running water. I still have electricity. There's definitely enough food in here, weird
as it is that I'm going to be fine until this is all over. But I still recognize I am
on the lighter side of the problems is causing for everyone. Houston faces dire water
issues as power outages and cold push Texans to their limits. Austin officials say to conserve
water and power to help stabilize resources, millions are still without power as winter storms
continue. And I want you to realize this is from 10 minutes ago. So very much ongoing. Since
this is the first time I'm really like in one of the stories that I'm making a video
about, I'm just going to go ahead and show you. Hopefully my phone picks it up. Our entire ground
is covered in this thin sheet of ice. Look, it's not only the ice that you can see on the
ground, the obvious ice. It's all like this. Even this right here is slippery. I actually
fell. It was right over here. And I fell and hit my hand. Oh, and you can see it too, right there
on my palm. It honestly would not be a problem if the snow itself wasn't getting so icy. I'm fine
if I slip and fall and hurt my wrist a little bit, but people are actually dying. Last time I walked
across this, it was just nothing but snow. Now, a lot of it is melted away, but it doesn't make
us feel any better because we still don't have power. It's just not fun anymore. I'm fortunate
enough to have a warm jacket already. The people who don't have winter gear or homes, they're
on the streets and it got down to 17 degrees. At least in other places, these people have the
appropriate attire. This came out of virtually nowhere and nobody was prepared for this.
This morning I woke up and read that a mayor here in one of the mini cities in Texas
posted this Facebook. He was basically saying, "You're just lazy if you don't know how to deal
with the cold. And it's the way you were raised and it's not the city's job to save you."
He was literally out there saying that. People are dying by the way. I felt bad
for making a joke, a literal Twitter joke that I went back and apologize for it.
Somehow he didn't feel bad for saying that people don't deserve help during this time. It's the
lack of empathy for me. My glasses are fogging up so hard. I can't really see what I'm doing but
hopefully I look good. That's a joke. I already know I look good. Y'all ever played Persona
Four? Remember that one part towards the end of the game where things get super foggy? Yeah,
that's intimately the vibe. Actually, you know what? I'm going to overlay that Persona Four music
over what's happening right now. I hate it here. I went ahead and took my glasses off because
they're obviously just getting so dark and foggy that I physically cannot see. It all seems like
fun and games, but when you think about the amount of property damage that could actually be
happening here, just because people are completely unused to dealing with this. It's insane.
Yeah that's what all of the snow looked like the first day I was out here. Please don't think
about it as, "Oh, it's not that much snow." Or, "I get more than that where I'm from."
Please just think about it as something that you had never experienced before. It's not
really your job to be prepared first of all, in 15 degree weather and it just gets dropped
on you and then everything shuts down. Your power goes out. You can't order anything. That
is what we were dealing with here in Texas. Have you ever really seen anything here that
would make you have to shovel the yard before? No.
Not even once, right? At least not in 10 years.
No, I've never. I'm actually an investigative reporter. There
was actually a third person out there that I wanted to ask, but honestly, they looked kind of
terrifying and maybe I shouldn't have made that snap judgment, but you just, you never know in
these streets. I know they weren't wearing masks, but they were literally standing in the driveway
by themselves. Don't worry. I was far enough away. I'll just boost the audio so you guys can actually
hear them. Okay, so I've finally gotten to where I've been trying to get this entire time.
For reference, here's me standing here. So there's this enormous, enormous, sunken part
here in the neighborhood that I walk past a lot. And this whole thing was like a ball of snow.
And I will insert the picture so you could see how much we're really dealing with here
in Texas. This is all just weird water now, but I'll insert pictures where you can see it was
nothing but ice. There were little kids running around here, by the way. Here's another one where
it looks relatively harmless. It's not that much snow, but then I go ahead and insert the picture
so you can see how it was the first time I walked past it. Even though the snow is melting, we
still have to deal with the ramifications from that. Anyway, I'm going to go back home now
because I'm honestly frigid. I don't actually own... What do you even call, gloves? Mittens? The
things that Bernie Sanders wore in that one meme. No, I'm just kidding. I know that they're
called hand shoes. But I'm going to go back home, try to edit this altogether.
And if y'all, can't hear the audio over this wind noise or whatever, y'all better turn
that up. I'm just kidding. I'll fix it in post. I don't have gear for recording outside,
because I've never really done it, but I can do it more if you guys liked this, if it's not
15 degrees outside. Vloggers really be out here, vlogging and driving at the same time because
your Tesla autopilots or whatever excuse you made for endangering the lives of everyone else on
the road. I be out here vlogging and walking on ice without proper gear at the same time. So if
anybody's going to be a casualty of the situation, it's moi. I'm honestly too conceited to get
anyone else killed. If I'm going to bite the dust, that's going to be my cloud. Those icicles
are just hanging out under my car right now. And that's scary enough. I don't want to even
want to think about what the road looks like. I don't know if that's supposed to be like
that, but I just have a feeling it's not... Kind of looks like legs though.
So I mean, since our government's kind of trash, the people who are doing the actual work as usual
are volunteers and charities. But right now, SARAH aka the South Alamo Regional Alliance for the
Homeless has kicked into overdrive. Because again, there are homeless people out there in 15
degree weather without proper gear. I just want to make sure at least people have enough to
do what they need to take care of. So, I mean, there's that. It's not the most ever, but
I am fine. I think if everyone who is fine, helps out everyone who is not fine at the moment,
things will be a lot better than if we just all act like that mayor and just claim
everyone should be fending for themselves in an unprecedented weather situation.
I just think that just made me really sad, honestly. But yeah, it's not like the
most fun video in the entire world, but as I'm sure you noticed, we're not having the
most fun in the entire world and it's like that sometimes. Anyway, I'll be here all week folks at
2:00 PM central time. If it's Monday, Wednesday, Friday, that means I'm uploading a new video
here. If it's Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, that means I'm going live over on Twitch.
So basically what I'm saying is I'll see you tomorrow. Unless of course tomorrow is Sunday in
which case just watch this video again. Okay bye.
