Taste Testing 5 Japanese Foods That Foreigners Usually Dislike!

it's nice hey guys wasn't it took your creative play I'm your host Emma and today I'm going to be trying five traditional Japanese foods that foreigners typically don't like myself included yeah today we're starting with easy stuff and working our way down to stuff that's a little bit harder to digest so I'm gonna start us off with something very easy seaweed or nutty as it is called in Japanese I'm gonna give it a little taste and tell you how it is it stuck to the roof of my mouth thanks good a little bit chewy but honestly by itself it's kind of plain so that's why they sell it would like lots of different flavors or add it to things here but if you're up for a healthy snack this is pretty good I'd eat this again I like this seaweed next we have uncle this looks so terrible it's very moist it's very wet and it's mm-hmm you probably heard of it before but it's actually sweet it's kind of a dessert thing here when I first came to Japan I saw it in desserts and I thought it was chocolate because of the color I guess it's every time I bit into something thinking it was chocolate I had this rude awakening that it was this kind of dry bean flavor and I hated it for such a long time I truly hated this stuff but I think when you come to expect the taste it turns out to be quite pleasant as long as you expect it now this stuff is the chunky stuff you can get smooth uncle as well it's good even though it looks very unappetizing it's just a little bit dry because of the beans but it's also moist at the same time can I say that I don't know if I really enjoy uncle by itself it's pretty good but I like to have other things with it like when it's wrapped in machi or it's with white beans like I like to have something with it but when it's by itself it's kind of average I don't want to move on to the next point I just want to stop that we had a good time thanks for watching guys see you in the next video next one it's been a quite a while since I've had one of these am I gonna do a whole one oh dang this is a machine pickled sour plum pickled sour plum this is everywhere you can have it on rice I think you can get it just by itself and snack on it it's very very very popular here oh ho what it's cool also this is this is just my reaction there are Westerners who do like this there's a lot of people out there that like this this is just you know me a normal person oh I know that's well come on just I love my job I left my job I love my job oh hold on can I hate them hate some rice oh my god oh my god rice is so good and we just get the rice to back down everything and if you want to try a new food it'd be a great thing to try it's a fun thing to try and you might like it hey that'd be great but I hate it I hate it so much this is squid it is dried squid I guess this isn't as bad to me as the umeboshi I guess cuz I've had squid before I know what it tastes like I know what to expect and alright oh wait there's a small one I could put that whole thing in my mouth okay let me try this whoa that's really squiddy but they have flavored it with something trying a little bit spicy it's not that bad it if you don't mind fishy flavors because it is very like I like in-your-face the texture is like so chewy I mean it's dried out squid so it's just like biting into a hard piece of plastic and gradually breaking it down this is definitely better than the umeboshi for me yeah honestly not bad and if you come to Japan you can try these and show your friends a crazy thing that you try cool not too shabby [Music] you know it's that typical thing an old phone is don't like not so it's like yeah cuz it's stuck I wish I liked it cuz it's so healthy apparently oh that smell oh my god it's kind of this slimy texture here they call it like never never okay I just put the whole thing in oh my god I missed how did I miss this how do I get that not that sauce is not going in and I'll just put a tiny bit of mustard just do it that much oh my God look at that oh my god it's so nasty it's so thick [Music] just just to buy it with some rice only I like this stuff maybe I will maybe this will be the time to change if I have the source with it one will be me can't leave them behind uh I want to get like a big bit alright here we go it's no no price I can I'm Way too scared that's too much rice I got it down I got it down I deserve a round of applause myself thank you thanks everybody if you like it you like it if you don't you darn you know everyone has their own preference whoo yeah awesome cool I don't feel like I achieved anything today I feel like today just okay I keep thinking like if I had to eat one again which one would I pick and my brains like no no neither stop thinking about oh I touched it I touched it with my hand oh the stringiness it doesn't stop it's like a persistent spider my ranking for what I like to what I don't is red beans great see you it's pretty good squid is fine and Maebashi is bad and not though is really bad and that's my final rating just just as me feel free to give these a try if you come to Japan it's really worth trying new things and trying new flavors and it's always fun do I mean that do something easy to start off with would be Ichigo daifuku which is matcha with red bean and then a big old strawberry on the inside so it's kind of a nice introduction to to red bean rather
