hey everybody welcome to my second storeroom today we're going to talk about what to stock up for before a dark winter or new lockdown all right so it's kind of an unusual place for me to start a video here um this is my kind of youtube overflow secondary storeroom it's more products than it is food foods in the uh the other storeroom which we'll probably get into later when we're doing this video but uh i really want to talk about what you should stock up for in preparation for a possible second lockdown or a really long dark winter as it was put now we also have the threat of trucker strike which is possibly coming on november 26th and 29th and with flu and covid they're having what they call a twin democ which is you know both things raging at once so there is a good chance now whether we agree with it or not that we'll be facing another lockdown in most of our states now since we went through the last lockdown there may have been items you failed to stock up on or items you didn't even think about that were sold out by the time you thought to go to the store and look for them if you learn from your mistakes and failures you haven't really failed so what you've done is learned a valuable lesson you file that lesson away do better next time because it's not about perfection it's about progress first thing i'd like you to do is think beyond cleaning paper products if you haven't stocked on that up on that stuff already you know maybe get a little bit extra but it's not all about that think about what your family uses daily and stock up on that things like do your kids have a favorite cereal well stock up on it do you like a certain creamer in your coffee stock up on it a good example would be stuff i have over there which is my spices there's some spices i like over on the rack way over that way i stocked up on them i got them through thrive make sure you have the stuff that you use every day it's not always about you know i need to go out and buy cases of mre sometimes it's stupid stuff like your kid's cereal or maybe something you have for lunch every day stock up on that stuff first if you're new to prepping now is the time to declutter your home and make a storage area for your new supplies this can help everyone get involved and can make it a family project and if everybody participates in it it's a whole lot less scary for younger children you can even make it fun now the first thing you want to do is start an inventory or do an inventory of your existing preps see what you have see what you might need see what you might have used over time see what somebody might have snuck out and used if you have family members that know where your preps are think about things you might need to be safe in your home for a long period of time things like a 30-day supply of medication make sure you have a 30-day supply of medication you might need including over-the-counter and prescription stuff a 90-day supply might be better but that kind of stuff is really handy you can kind of see some of my first aid preps and through here and having fever-reducing medication like tylenol the medicine cabinet to treat fevers in case you contact the virus is a handy thing to have if you've been slacking on stocking up or rotating out your first aid kit now is the time to do it you see that big yellow box there that is my what i like to call my hospital in a box i just recently went through that got rid of some of the old stuff put in a whole lot of new stuff and made sure it was all set and ready to go so now's the time to get moving on that this is most of my you can't really tell here but it's most of my first aid type gear along with stuff like that so most of this stuff has been gone through rotated run through made sure everything is nice and new now another thing you're going to want to do is like normal keep clean laundry soap regular soap shampoo things like that could be really important you can go from the cheap stuff which i buy here to store away to what i use every day which is the usual you know decent stuff you got a regular bar soap hibiclens is another good thing if you can find it it's a very good antiseptic antimicrobial i order mine on amazon but you might be able to find it in your local stores there is a pump version of it that you can keep by your sink and some shampoo can't hurt just a few things to think about when you want to keep clean you're going to want to keep clean even more clean than say normal times so you're probably going to be using this stuff a little bit more and especially if somebody in your household gets sick and they have to quarantine in your home so now we're up to what to drink okay well of course most common will be drinking water and the most common thing we'll do is people will go out and buy bottled drinking water and wipe the stores out one of the things i did notice last time is these don't tend to disappear as much the one gallon ones you can also if you have five gallon empty containers refill them at plenty of the different places around your area that sell water sometimes it's like a quarter a gallon or a buck 25 for five gallons way cheaper than buying bottled water and let's face it most places your water is potable it's drinkable there's no problem but it's not a bad idea to stock up might also be a good idea to get yourself a decent water filter before you get locked down something like that could come in handy if you're worried about what your water tastes like a water filter will take care of it if you can't find any water on the shelves next up i also recommend getting some gatorade some pedialyte i have this electrolyte stuff here this propel stuff um these are just tubes that you stick into a bottle of water good stuff definitely will keep you hydrated if you do happen to get sick also too they will quench your thirst if all the water is gone and you don't like your tap water personally i would say get used to your tap water you'll save a lot of money and you can boil it purify it or filter it you know get yourself a berkey or an aquarium filter keep it on your counter no problem at all so that's kind of what we're gonna drink okay next up let's talk about some vegetables and fruits all right so next up we're gonna talk about fruits and vegetables and nuts um you can get fresh fruits and vegetables uh as a matter of fact i don't have any bring out here because i have to go shopping later today after this video so what i've chosen to show you guys is some of the things that i store as far as vegetables nuts fruits stuff like that we have a local farm here that actually grows their own pistachios and stuff so i had that stuff put away as well as freeze dried stuff but for this kind of a situation i would say go to the store buy fresh put it in your fridge you got about two weeks to use it if you do get locked down you know you have fresh fruits and vegetables if you want to go a little bit longer get yourself some canned fruit and vegetables just keep an eye on the fruits make sure you date them when you get them and make sure you rotate them they do tend to be a little more acidic in their content and will eat through the can quicker so you may end up with a real mess i always tell people to store sauces and fruits on the bottom of your storage racks because if they do spill they won't spill all over everything else so just spill on the bottom and make a mess and you can clean it also dry goods are interesting too you can get a little bit of dry goods things that you can just throw into a pot and cook easily things like rice beans cereals and pastas nuts are also a good snacking option like i mentioned you want to make sure you have lots of those so let's move to the next all right so the next thing is easily digestible foods again we're preparing for all contingencies here and a lot of the symptoms reported with covert or fever tiredness dry cough nausea and diarrhea and they're seeing a lot of patients now with gastrointestinal symptoms so to have foods in your pantry that are easy to prepare and very very easily digestible is a great idea so things like rice although i forgot to bring a bag of rice out here to show you soups broth i have both chicken and beef broth french onion soups peanut butter crackers stuff like this it's easily digestible and also too don't forget bullion bullion is very very handy and sometimes when you're not feeling good a little cup of bullion can really really fix you up good so stuff like that makes it much much easier for you if you're not feeling well frozen food frozen meats now is a good time to stock up on stuff easy meals to prepare that you can pop in the microwave might be a good idea for your freezer if you don't feel like cooking every day and of course we have the freezer in the house as well this is just the garage freezer make sure you're stocked up on your frozen items and also make sure you have a way to run this freezer should the power go out now i have enough between generators and solar that i could run this no problem but you definitely want to think about that ahead of time so as you see here you know i have some turkey stocked away chicken i got beef underneath there i got a hamburger i even have a loaf of bread in there that i have frozen some some wheat so have that stuff put together ahead of time and it doesn't have to be super expensive i mean you could sit in there with some some chicken and some beef and that's it you know stock it up a little bit every time and make sure that you also get some of your favorite frozen meals i know they're not health food but sometimes when you're not feeling good when you've been locked in the house for so long just tossing a frozen dinner in the microwave is a lot easier and a lot less stressful than having to think oh now i have to cook here's something else you may not have thought of you got pets right well make sure you stock up for them i got cats i got a whole lot more than that lying around the house but uh again just a representation of what you should be getting you should be stocking up a little bit at a time last um in march when this hit we had absolutely no cat litter there was no cat litter in the stores thankfully i had a good amount put away for a couple of weeks we had no cat food thankfully again i had it put away so little things like that again this video isn't made for those of us that are like hardcore probably have you know 25 gallon buckets of cat or dog food put away you know for long term this is made for you folks who might be watching this who are new to this who maybe don't even want to be preppers after all this craziness is over maybe you just want to be prepared for this one event this is something definitely that you need if you have pets also too now of course these two things would make sense why i have them james now i know you're probably laughing the fact this is the worst case scenario survival game this is actually a fun game but board games cards these are survival tips playing cards so you can learn a little a little bit while you're playing cards chessboard anything basically something to keep the mind busy okay if you've got a family especially you know kids that are used to being on devices all day find them something to do other than the devices if it happens to be down if not hey that's great but if things are up and running as far as electricity and cell phone service and all that don't forget extra chargers okay you're going to be home much more you're going to need to charge those devices because they're going to be getting used a lot more also your kids with distance learning are going to need their laptops or their school provided laptop charged up a lot more make sure you got the power to do that should there be a power outage as well as just regular everyday stuff so a few extra extension cords a few extra um chargers for your cell phones really not bad also i'm going to recommend exercise this is the one thing that really helped me a little bit through the last one is i would get out and walk i'd use a sit-up machine in my garage here um but somebody gave me and it's funny because once they reopened the gyms that next day the setup machine broke but have some kind of routine get get your endorphins boosted with a little bit of walking around i'm sure you can walk around your block i'm sure there's no lockdown against that if you have to put a mask on put one on and walk around the block you know get out and get those endorphins and mood boosters going also to have a routine if you usually get up make breakfast take a shower get dressed for work those things are important to your mind your health make sure even if you're working from home you do those kind of things now you may not want to take a shower every day if all you got to do is straighten out your hair put on a clean shirt and a pair of pants and sit on a zoom conference all day but a sense of normalcy is important and the rhythms in your daily life are important and when they've been disrupted that can affect your health and well-being as well so again these are just suggestions if you guys have better ideas by all means leave them down below in the comments i'm sure i forgot a few things this is just some stuff i thought of over the top of my head that i was low on last time and i've done basically the last few months to make sure that i've stocked up on this stuff again and uh it's just a few little simple helpful tips if you guys think of other stuff that you ran out of feel free to share it i really want people to actually comment and share this video and share ideas because i want to get everybody a little bit better up to speed even if you're not some kind of big prepper you know and maybe you're thinking about getting started in it maybe this year has made you a prepper and maybe you just want to be ready for little small emergencies and you think all of us preppers are crazy but you want a few extra things in the house by all means gets give me some ideas take some ideas from this and help
