hey everybody my name is Stephen and welcome back to the story time Channel without wasting any time let's get adore stories of the day landlord advertises all of our company's equipment for sale to our competitors best follow our eviction to the letter I work for a leisure company think soft play indoor soccer laser tag can't be specific prior to lock down managers and the big bosses were negotiating the renewal of the lease on one of our parks things were going mostly smoothly however the landlords were difficult to contact then 2020s crap hit the fan all of our sites were closed and everything was thrown into a mess negotiations began to slip down the priority list nobody thought the landlord would push an eviction for an expired lease during this period especially with it's still getting rent despite the site's closure and the closure of every business and restaurant on the immediate area we were wrong a few days ago we received a letter saying we had seven days to leave the premises and take everything with us we are reminded that anything left in the building after seven days will become the landlord's property that line is very important now a lot of construction goes into installing our equipment into a new building which makes emptying one even harder at a lockdown with no staff and most businesses shut it meant that saving much of our assets would prove to be extremely difficult to lose a profitable site in all of its assets is definitely a blow to our company but here is where it gets worse a few days into our 7-day eviction we find out that the landlord has been advertising our part to our competitors but he isn't offering just the building he is offering all of our stuff pre-installed ready to go just needs rebranding the landlord has evicted us from the property in an attempt to increase rent and make a solid profit from our equipment installed because he thinks we won't be able to empty the park we were furious and here is where the malicious compliance came in we were told we had seven days to move everything we owned out of the property so that's what we did local businesses from all around offered up free space to store our things a few people came back out of lockdown and they all spent the rest of the week removing selling or destroying everything that was related to us we didn't even leave light fittings in every other site vacation we have seen we always end up leaving thousands of dollars worth of disco lights in the ceilings because they're too hard to get we leave most of the construction in as well as things like the bars and kitchens that all stay intact recognizable as they once were but not this building we ripped up the flooring we installed tore down the walls that were not part of the original structure wooden walls to divide up the space ripped apart our managers offices and removed all artwork and lockers the landlord now has every new deal he has been making dead in the water a large renovation bill to install new flooring etc or a company willing to do it themselves like we were mocked on has been extended another four weeks so he has at least another four weeks without rent and won't have any potential buyers silver lining the assets we got out of the side fridges TVs equipment food tables have all been sold and the lack of rent and additional income has helped the business and paid staff wages so you're told you have seven days to move everything out including stuff you built into the building what would you do let me know in the comments below windows file extensions for the win my company uses lockdown Microsoft Windows thin clients and as of a few years ago we were on Windows XP which struggled with file extensions and associations we're an engineering shop and use scrum and tools like JIRA to track project requirements and progress towards completion one time a first-level boss asked us all to submit weekly reports to her I protested that we all spent plenty of time updating JIRA so the the managers could see all that they needed to see by logging in there and that submitting weekly reports was duplicating that work she said that looking at JIRA seemed hard so we should submit weeklies instead okay boss each week I submitted my weeklies nicely typed up but rather than doing so in word like most I submitted my weekly as text files using Linux tools further the weeklies renamed opie - weekly date where date looks something like 20 2001 o52 open these files and windows she'd have to double click the file an outlook windows would then complain it didn't know how to open a 2001 o-5 file and give her possible applications and a checkbox that said always open 2001 o-5 files with application if she chose notepad of course the Linux line endings would cause the file to be one long line and she'd have to open it in another application which is especially challenging if she had checked that checkbox since the file had a different extension each week she'd have to pound through the process over and over just to read my weeklies months later I was talking to her about something and mentioned that I'd discussed the topic in one of my week leaves she confessed that she hadn't been reading them because they were too hard to open eventually of course the manager moved on as did the requirement to do weeklies one other thing yeah looking at the JIRA reports didn't make any sense to the managers the reports don't make sense to me either this was part of my point entering a bunch of updates into JIRA ends up being either a lot of work to get it and keep it consistent and right so people can understand it or a complete waste of time for a small team I think I just find it frustrating personally when you have some kind of standard software and the people and management will never care to learn this software or at least organize it where they can't understand it and instead just gonna just do this thing for me weekly or however many times just to make it work for me when it's just not productive malicious compliance I'm a jerk boss okay so before I start don't expect this to be some massive thing where I completely embarrass my boss or something it's quite small but I was proud as I've put up with his crap for three years now anyway on with a story so I work in retail and in my store there is a main tale that has to be manned at all times unless it's quiet as all the lighters vape equipment and sprays are there we had just closed but still had a few customers in the store as we don't tend to rush anyone out near the till is a battery bay that was looking quite messy and as it was quiet I went to sort it out before the next customer came my boss saw me and started berating me for it while another coworker stood behind him being as smug as ever there's a group in the store that all the managers favor and she's in it but that isn't really relevant here he started raising his voice saying it was irresponsible of me as someone could walk out which is impossible as they'd have to walk straight past me to leave I think free get and to not cause any more crap go and stand behind the till my till was running low on bag so I pull out one of the boxes from under the till and fill it up emptying the box I break it down and put it on the side as that's the only place I can put it not two minutes later the manager comes back followed by his shadow and asks me to put the box in the warehouse my response nope you just berated me for not being on the till so I'm staying right here he shot me daggers and they both walked away sorry this isn't as impressive as some of the others on here but I was really proud of myself as I never stand up for myself it's frustrating to me to hear about the contentious behavior between employee and boss when it's just not necessary to have any of that just try and work it out civilly as humans you want to go to insurance since your scam didn't work I'll go to insurance this was a few years ago during my senior year in college I was living in a converted house that was five apartments there was a small parking lot and the spaces were tight I had a car and my two roommates didn't but this was never a problem because we'd usually go to the store together could walk to campus and they'd rarely ask for rides anywhere well one day my one roommate asked for a quick ride to the park so she could get a water sample from the lake for her chemistry class no big deal as it take less than 10 minutes we go out to my car and I'm pulling out when I accidentally scrape against the car next to me these spaces were really tight and we were parked too closely together it was honestly barely noticeable and mostly on the passenger door I figure I'll run this quick errand and then try to figure out which apartment the driver lives in they probably won't even notice before I get back 10 minutes later my roommate and I are back and surprisingly there's a girl in the parking lot I quickly realized she is the owner of the car I explained what happened and say we can figure it out she says she wants to talk to her parents first and I say I'll do the same since I'm on their insurance we both know where the other lives anyways my dad's advice was that the deductible for the car is $500 so I'd have to pay anything less than that anyways I should see if the owner wants to avoid insurance to prevent rates going up I tell her this and she says she'll get back to me with some estimates later she hands me a few estimates that vary greatly in price and work done one or two were well over 500 dollars and had what was clearly unnecessary work I forget the details but it was something about replacing the hubcaps or tires altogether when there was nothing noticeable about that my contact the places myself to see what they say and get the most telling response from the place with the most affordable estimate this was a kind woman from a clearly family shop versus the others which were bigger places and dealerships the woman tells me that the car didn't actually need that much done like I assumed and the owner was insisting on extra work to the tires her estimate was low because she only wrote it up for what was needed not the unnecessary work the woman asked for I go back to the other student and tell her that I'd cover the cost of lowest estimate one from the mom-and-pop shop she says she didn't like that estimate and wanted to go with the pricier one from the big expensive dealership with a lot of cosmetic work in the estimate she says some BS about not trusting the family shop and how they didn't seem reliable when I could tell they were kind and genuine when I visited them started insulting their shop - she says if I refuse to pay then she's going to go through insurance and I'd better be prepared to pay well now it's time for my malicious compliance I decide to call my insurance preemptively to get ahead of this and let them know this woman might be contacting them with a claim I wanted to give my side first when I followed up with them a while later about paying the deductible I found out she never even filed a claim or contacted insurance at all so my rate didn't go up whatsoever and I didn't have to pay a penny sounds like it was simply calling them out on their bluff and it ended up paying off for them they said they would go through the insurance but they never did easy victory for Opie bank employees take a petty revenge on arrogant craphead so ever since the virus outbreak here are a few new things that started being done to ensure that proper precautions are done like having an employee open and closing doors usually the janitor another employee making sure that people are keeping the advisors social distance between each other usually the security guard all that to make sure minimum contact is made and prevent viruses and germs spread all that was not existing in the past so for some it all seemed ridiculous and troublesome for others anyways - the story a couple of days ago while I was waiting in the bank I just witnessed bank employees taking a petty revenge on arrogant crap head basically this crap I decided he can skip the line of people waiting and just go straight to the cashier the security guard obviously tried to tell him to go back but the crap had just powered through and pushed the guard they started yelling at each other and eventually inappropriate words started being told by the crap head the guard was furious but he still remained polite with words but tone wise it was high to watch the crab head the second in charge in the bank tried to talk to him but he wasn't having it the head of the bank came out to see what all the commotion was about the grad was still yelling further insults at the guard the guard had enough with his useless shootout and pulled this phone and walked out answering a call now all the big staff is so ticked at the crap head because he is still being impolite the scribe had proceeded to ask the second in charge to check and take care of his business the second in charge told them you need to wait while I finish what I have in hand this is very unusual from the second in charge as he always drops everything and takes care of clients no matter how small the request the crab head turns to the head of the bank and is asking him to intervene but that of the bank told him to just wait as you were told and went back to his office the crap bed didn't want to wait and went to the cashier demanding that he check his request and proceed with his operation the cashier tells him to wait a second while he finishes with the client he has at the moment cashier day scrapped heads papers takes a look and gives it right back telling him that he needs to sign and properly fill the document the crab head takes the documents signs and goes right back only to find that the cashier has started another operation for another client so he waits again gives the papers again once again the Cassiar gives him back the papers and tells him that he forgot to check something in the document I can see that the guy's all red and a vein is about to pop by now he takes the documents again slams them on the counter and looks more carefully to see what he missed now usually the cashier doesn't care about the small details personally I gave him a few docs missing a few things and he just let it slide as long as the signatures there and clear cashier would fill it with what is missing but this time of this guy he was playing by the rules and the a-hole cannot say anything since it is the rules and we all know it anyways he finds what is missing fills it and goes back to the cashier the cashier takes the papers and starts typing then gives them back again to the guy and tells him that he needs to check the account number as it is wrong at this point I am just shaking trying to not make any noise or the crab ped will start a fight with me the guy slams his hand on the counter taking his documents the second in-charge calls him out to go to the head of the Bank office by this time my turn is up and I don't know what happens after no guys I know for a fact of the staff just kept playing with him for at least five minutes making it difficult for him to get done with his business I am friends with all the staff and I know they are all sweet and so so helpful but upset one and they will hang on you to make you regret it so hard like what happened with this crap head the story was a little tough to read but this dude sounded like an absolute hothead coworker eventually fired for this in the early 90s I worked for a 200 employee manufacturer nearly every day we'd get 100 to 200 different parts as incoming receiving this predates barcoding so the receiving clerk manually logged each items sequentially on a form the form looked like a shopping list quantity then one item per line going down the page the receiver complained a lot about this as it would take most of the day to do originally he had a helper but they quit in the spot was not refilled with a helper it went fast one checking and one logging he had other responsibilities when he had a helper but those were taken away when the helper quit that created some major butthurt as he became just the receiving guy he may have been doing some income and quality control prior he devolved into complaining about this any time you spoke with him people began to avoid him or minimize contact with him because this was all he would talk about he went from always being with a group at lunch to sitting in his car eating by himself this went on for a long time and then he dropped it and was sort of back to the way he was before and then one day he was fired and marched out of the building he'd been hiding messages in the receiving log the first letter of each item when they were all lined up would spell it out he didn't line the words exactly up but staggered them so it wasn't easy to see it was only by bad luck it got noticed I found out later from a mutual friend he'd even hold back receiving some items so he could use that items first letter on another log he apparently planned his weekly message out and this had gone on for months close to a year the majority of his screens were centered on three people in management the one that got him sacked was mary has a Smeg mouth paraphrased but closed in a way I kind of don't blame the employee because I feel like I would go crazy having to do that kind of job where with two people it would take no time at all but with one person it takes an endlessly long amount of time that's just not necessary even with some form of automation that was maybe possible it would make things so much easier but with that being said that's all the stories we have for today so what I want to know is which of these stories was your
