hey everybody my name is Steven and welcome back to the storytime channel without wasting any time let's get into our stories of the day special delivery it was the mid-90s my father was a highly paid business consultant the company he worked for would hire him out to businesses who were trying to get off the ground he would fly out spend a few weeks with them and train their management the finer points of business ownership he also handled large projects such as the planning building staffing and organization of new offices and others as such for this his company would charge anywhere from $300 to $400 an hour for his time built by the week at a minimum of 40 hours a week or more if there was overtime in exchange for this less than modest sum the company took care of all my father's expenses rather than push them off on the client this went on for years my mom quit her job to stay at home with me and my dad held down the finances of the household himself but he was gone for three weeks at a time and when he was here he was at the office I was lucky if I spent any real time with him more than two days a month this also negatively affected my parents marriage then for my sixth birthday my dad got me a model plane and a membership card to the airline his company used in truth it was a copy of his card but six year old me thought it was the coolest thing ever it had my dad's name on it in the word admiral bringing his concerns regarding his home life to his boss my father had struck a deal I would be flown out to him every third or so weekend my father would pay the cost of the flights but would use his company account and thus have access to his frequent flyer discount company discount and would collect any loyalty points or what-have-you that I earned I was flying for pennies on the dollar I would spend the weekend with him in whatever hotel we were in and we would go and do stuff in the city he got to see me I got to see both him in a new city and my mom got to spend a weekend without me to decompress everyone loved the arrangement myself especially fast forward a year I have achieved Admiral status within the airline's loyalty program not a hard task as my dad already had that status and I was using his account but I felt accomplished nonetheless and have been to all 48 continental states this is when something happened there was a change in the company people moved around people were hired and people were fired and when all the dust settled my dad found himself one position higher and under new management dad's new manager had no issues with the father and son get away perk my dad was liberally using but to offset the extra cost there would be a few changes to my dad's expense account while food and entertainment were fully covered as many of his meetings happened over lunch the manager decided that rather than provide my father with a rental car instead he would take local transport via cabs or similar services and would be given a limited number of trips he could take a day surely he only needed to travel twice a day to and from the site so he was allotted two cab rides per day he was out of the state including weekends since the manager wanted to be generous any additional travel my father wanted to take would be on his own dime my dad brought up that the company was not spending any resources on my trip aside from the 30 minutes of time it took the travel agent to booked my flights but this new manager insisted that this was a much better use of company time and resources all other expenses including the hotel dry-cleaning and any mail that had to be sent would be covered as usual now normally my visiting weekends would be jam-packed with whatever local museum or attraction the city had followed by a nice dinner at a cool or fancy restaurant one does not achieve this with two cab rides a day my dad blows all his cab rides on my next visit we go and see everything a museum a movie and a fair of some sort every trip was by cab this is the part I remember because my dad had me keep count with him an entire amazing day is spent and in total eleven cab rides were had now for the malicious compliance without any more allotted cab rides after I was at home my dad was still scheduled for a week of work he contacted the local post office and explained his situation after some evil laughter from both him and the postman a truck shows up at his hotel he mails himself to work and then back again for the rest of the week he pays her first class delivery by the pound this becomes exorbitantly expensive at the end of the trip my debts in an an expense report that had a few thousand dollars extra on it for shipping costs the fallout some stuff happened there was a change in the company some people were moved some people were hired and some people were fired my father found himself under a new manager the company decided that it was improper to have different rules for expenses for different employees based on their status or tenure a fixed policy was enacted company-wide my dad's new manager had no issues with sending me out once a month on my father's business account as long as my father paid for the cost of the flights sounds like Opie's dad is a good dad and also pretty quick on his feet just another night on the ward so this was a few years ago 2016 and my sisters story in the UK I have lived in London my whole life to see my area develop through the years especially the diversity of people it was the day after the referendum vote and the results were in I won't go into how unhappy I was with the results but the UK had decided for any non-eu readers basically brexit in the wake of the brexit result hate crime spiked massively I had personally been told to freak off back to my own country on my way to work that morning okay enough backwards info get it together Opie so my sister was at a senior position at a busy London Hospital in one of the most ethnically diverse communities it was on a night shift at about 9:00 p.m. the day after the referendum when an older white lady came into the hospital with her 19 year old daughter who was suspected to be in labour she approached the front provided her notes and was triaged it wasn't the busiest night in she only had to wait about three minutes before she was ready to be taken into the ward for examination my sister being a manager looked over her notes she was 38 weeks low-risk first baby and contractions for 20 minutes apart so she would probably be examined and sent home with advice to return later she approached them in the waiting area when she noticed discussed on the mother's face in her whispers something to her daughter who then rolled her eyes it's important to note at this point my sister's petite and fairly baby-faced she had been qualified for over seven years at the time so was used to people assuming she was not qualified yet and judging her based on her appearance the older lady then stood up whilst her daughter was still seated in the conversation one like this nope nope not gonna happen I'm sorry it's not gonna happen nope keep walking sorry could you please explain what's going on well they started talking super slowly as if my sister didn't understand English I'm gonna make this clear so you can hurry up and get someone who can actually do their job we want someone white to deliver this baby we have the right to this just like you do with translators so go and get someone white I'm sorry miss but do you not understand I don't want your dirty brown hands touching my granddaughter so go and get someone else my sister to the daughter are you confirming your refusing treatment for myself or any other non-white staff members on my ward yes she is why are you still standing here I need to hear that from your daughter again is that what you're confirming daughter didn't look like she could care less at this point with them both spitting as they spoke the daughter says yes I only want to be seen by someone white so you understand what you're seeing you have the right to refuse treatment as we do in treaty the daughter says yeah you can just go man you're getting on my nerves uh mother speaking over daughter we don't want any dirty people near my granddaughter what don't you understand just freak off and get someone white out here and I don't need any foreigners who can barely speak English either mother starts to talk to her daughter or how she's happy that once brexit is over she have to deal with these idiots everywhere etc bearing in mind brexit true concept was nothing to do with race and doesn't mean any less beam workers it seemed like a lot of people thought it meant sending Asians and Africans to their home countries even if British at this point my sister goes on to her ward tells a few of her staff what's going on and that there's a lady out there who doesn't want to be seen by anyone unless they're white this is where they comply they had just one white woman who worked on the ward who was in fact on rest days and lived about two hours away they continued with their night and carried on triaging and taking women into the ward my sister asked others going out there to keep an eye on the situation before she was sent back out to admit another lady on to the ward about fifty minutes later there she is stupid cow oh you her daughter says oh I'm still waiting are you getting someone to look at me or not otherwise I'll go home rolls eyes sorry I clearly recall that you didn't want any non-white people helping you unfortunately this area name and all of the staff on my wor tonight have dirty brown hands so you may need to go and visit X Hospital or Y hospital where they can help you further if you go home without examination and your contractions are about four to six minutes apart then I'm happy for you to return and deliver on our ward but our hands although gloved would need to touch your baby are you taking the piss we've been waiting for a freaking hour for you to tell me this bull go and get this supervisor you runt I am the ward manager tonight you can take the above advice and I can help you or security can escort you out daughter start swearing they both left about 5:00 a.m. they both come back in with the father of the baby also about nineteen and my sister was called to deal with them daughter visibly in pain and wincing as she spoke hi we're going to take you under the ward now I'll get you a porter daughter says all right thanks mother visibly annoyed I'm guessing you've had enough time to get someone else in then no that's not how this works the daughter says mom just leave it I don't care who helps just stop it no this is an issue with your kind you think you're above your daughter is in labor either you get escorted out by security or wait outside until your granddaughter is born or you shut up keep your opinions to yourself and get to stay for the delivery this is not about you right now is that clear no I don't care I don't want to see someone like you touching up on my granddaughter okay understood you won't my sister called security and had the mother escorted off the ward so she wouldn't have to technically witness it the daughter actually ended up being much nicer and said she was happy her mother wasn't there apparently the mother didn't look my sister in the eye when she later came into the room to see the baby oh man if you were an Opie situation and you had a deal with someone like this what do you think is the best way to actually handle it how much of that would you actually have tolerated let me know in the comments below shower every time you get up from the swimming pool sure thing okay the title might be a bit confusing so I guess you need some backstory before I begin on the e malicious compliance this happened years ago at a time where I still went to school and lived with my mother but I do still remember most of what happened my mom grandmother on my mother's side is a very regal type of person when I explained her to people um I'm a mom is I usually tell him that she reminds me of the main character in the British sitcom keeping up appearances she has all the class as one of our Royals but she just lacks the bloodline to be it I know my mom is a rich middle-class woman and I know this since none of my parents step in biological alike have ever told me that many stories from the childhood there was outside of Denmark my mother has a lot of those stories this does also explain why she gave my big sister a confirmation gift to Spain and later took my twin and me to Italy end of backstory time for real story this happens in Italy my mom and my grandfather no need to give him a fancy name he is not part of the story took us twin and I down to the guard alaik for a whole month it was nice but for someone who was living in Scandinavia I am telling you right now sure Denmark a warm summer day is around 25 Celsius 77 Fahrenheit and you can surely already hear that I was in trouble since in Italy this summer came upon the 30 Celsius 86 Fahrenheit on colder summer days and that is much for this fake Viking so when my twin and I found out the camping place had a swimming pool of course we spent most of our time in that only to come up from the water when we got too cold or we began to look more like a raisin than a human being as said before my mom was a Regal person so of course she did not like this at all we came back to her camp smelling like a Swimming Hall she told us to wash yourselves every time we had been in the pool and when I say wash us she meant like us taking a real shower with shampoo and all there was a problem with this twin and I did not spend half the day in the pools and only came up close to dinnertime no we mostly spent two hours in the water then we came up until we feel too hot and we got back to the pool once again and repeat this meant that we could go from fool to land around 8 to 12 times a day and we were two persons sharing a little bottle of shampoo I am pretty sure you can see the problem and I did tell my my mom this nope she still wanted us to do what she said and since twin and I were still young we of course followed her demand cue unintentional malicious compliance we did what she said and only a single day after my mom saw her mistake when she holds her empty shampoo bottle that was nearly full in the morning she got a hopeless look in her eyes and then told us what I still remember to this day I give up just wash yourselves when both of you are done with the pools I have to admit I laughed at her hopelessness since I was never the rebel teenager and it just felt good when you're once writing something my mom didn't lose much in all of this only a shampoo bottle and a chunk of her pride we did try to smooth her pride a bit out by showering without shampoo before we got back to the camp to make sure we did not smell too much like a Swimming Hall can't ruin my mom's regal pride too much now can we I can understand a desire for wanting to freshen up a little bit so you don't smell it actly like a swimming hall but it's not realistic to use shampoo and stuff of course every single time so I think it's pretty natural that my mom learned her lesson pretty quickly teachers if you're going to assign homework each week you might want to read it over in my grade 12 year I took a career class that was required of everyone it was a silly class and where teachers are supposed to teach you how to prepare for life after high school I'm sure there are teachers out there that really care about the course and will come up with engaging assignments and activities that students can get into however my teacher was nothing like that she was a math / physics teacher that had to take the course in order to retain her salary each week she assigned us anywhere from five to ten questions that would be required to submit the following week I would write a decent paragraph even more for required for each question so I was submitting a page or two each week and was happy with the tenets of TENS I was getting back however after the third week my friends next to me were getting the same scores but only submitting a sentence for each question as it was of course I didn't care about and that each assignment was probably worth about 5% total of my grade I did an experiment I took the first assignment erased the date title and mark which was conveniently written in pencil with the new assignments title and date and submitted it following week I get it back tonight at 10:00 with the mark again and pencil I realized that my teacher was merely marking for completion and didn't actually read over any of what was written so I continued to hand in assignments with the correct title and date but had she actually read what was written it would have made no sense we also only had one test with a bonus question the entire year but we just had to swap with someone else in the room the guy I traded with offered mark mine all right and I'll do the same for you so that's how I ended up with a hundred two percent in a course I spent most of my time playing tabletop curling with my friends it's kind of irrelevant to the story but Opie said tabletop curling and that took me back to middle school I would sit in the very back at a double desk with another friend of mine and there were circle holes in the desk so we would stack textbooks up on either side crumple up a piece of paper and we would try to go back and forth scoring on each other's goal because there was a hole on both sides of the desk kind of a fun throwback that pops up into my mind but with that being
