hello youtubers Alaska prepper here I've had a few community members asking me how I store my pasta whenever I don't do it in a five-gallon bucket and I do it in a couple different ways so if you guys want to learn how I do it stay tuned we'll be right back all right ladies and gentlemen so as you can see I've got part of my last payday prep here and I'm finally getting around to putting it away now I've had a lot of people ask since previous videos they've asked if I freeze my pasta before I put it away in dry storage or long-term storage and the answer is in this case I did not however I'm not worried because I'm gonna be using oxygen absorbers okay now there are many ways of dry canning things all right the method I'm gonna use today is the simplest method I'm going to make sure that I start out with a nice clean jar this just happens to be a half gallon jar okay and I'm going to use two 100cc oxygen absorbers all right let me explain the oxygen absorbers really quick the rule of thumb is that you use 400 CCS per one gallon all right this is a half gallon all right and of course a lot of the volume in there is gonna be taken up by the pasta that's in there all right so 200 CCS per half gallon should be plenty all right and in addition to that we're gonna go ahead and vacuum seal it at the same time extracting even more air so that 200cc oxygen absorbers in there should be plenty to remove all of the oxygen inside this container which will not allow any microbial life to exist inside of the container okay if you want to take the additional step of freezing your pasta for two to three days all right in a deep freezer that is perfectly fine I would just caution you to make sure to allow your pasta to get back up to room temperature before you store it okay and the reason I say that is because it's never happened to me and I've never heard of it happening to anyone but the only reason that I do that whenever I do use the freezer for like rice and beans I usually put my rice and beans in there for a while it's because I don't want to be putting a cold product into a room-temperature jar and then taking the chance that some condensation may build up inside okay like I said it's never happened to me I've never heard of it happening to anyone I just don't want to take that chance okay so this is the first method that I'm gonna use I'm actually gonna use a different method using food saver bags a lot of people have told me that using food saver bags to store pasta is not a good idea and also using mylar bags which I don't see anything wrong with using mylar bags to store pasta because the mylar bag is a mylar bag because it has a coating of metal right on the plastic all right which takes a lot of force for something to puncture through okay now in a FoodSaver bag that can happen with pasta all right where the pasta can puncture through the FoodSaver bag and break your seal so I want to show you the method that I use whenever I'm packaging pasta and food saver bags all right so that if you want to use it or you think that it's a good method for you to use and you don't know about it then you'll find out about it okay but the first thing that we're gonna do is very simple we're gonna go ahead and put our pasta in our jar and ladies and gentlemen when you're doing this I would caution you to make sure that you have very clean jars you can even sanitize them and put them in the oven for you know 10 minutes or so at 200 degrees and make sure that you have very clean hands make sure that you have very clean hands as well all right cookies in there I just lost to to having lost the battle now a good tip for you all if you guys are if any of you are storing pasta and you want to get as much in there as you possibly can as much calories in this dress you possibly can you would probably be better off storing the pastas that are real small you know like the small macaronis they're real small and they probably don't have as much you know volume as these bigger ones because you see these are taking up a lot of air air space in there okay so I'm gonna go ahead and shake this up around a little bit the thing is I don't think that will be able to fit two pounds in here but will fit as much as we can okay let's do our second box and like I said I'm pretty sure this won't fit in here at all [Applause] well you put as much as you can in there alright ladies and gentlemen we are all set up let me go ahead and make sure you guys have a good view of this all right so I got both my jars right here and for those of you that have seen this before this is nothing new there is a very simple process all right I've got my food saver all ready to go I've got my attachment on it my holes attachment okay I've got my lids as you can see I've already labeled my lids so you're gonna do it she's gonna put your lid on there right but first you have to put in your oxygen absorbers okay and this these oxygen absorbers I had them awhile for those of you that are wanting to do this these oxygen absorbers I believe you can get like I believe the pack that I got when I got these was like a hundred and fifty of them for like ten or eleven dollars or something like that but they're very easy to store they're not a high-maintenance item I've heard of other people storing them in different ways I've been storing them like this ever since I started using them I've never had a problem with them losing effectiveness okay and whenever I do use them and I'm using the food saver I go ahead and back he's that conceal but you really don't have to vacuum seal them the last time that I use these I did not vacuum seal this container okay because I wasn't using them with my food saver and you'll see that it produces its own seal okay so I'm going to use two of these for these things there you go so I'm gonna grab two for each alright I'm going to close this right back up nice and tight okay so we want to be using multiple we're gonna be using these multiple times today so I'm just gonna make sure they're nice and tight I'm gonna put my seal on that or my lid on that take this one off now put this one on here okay and you have time ladies and gentlemen of course don't take half an hour to do this but you do have time to do this so you don't have to be rushing ok then for those of you that have never used this before you're gonna make sure that when you put this on that you don't put it at an angle you're just gonna go straight down with it all right until it's seated and you'll feel that it's seated see that that's seated and one straight down when you put it in an angle you would have a tendency of pushing the lid to one side or another and not producing a good seal or having a chance of that lid losing its seal okay you put your attachment on here okay let me get this out of the way so you guys can see this better all right you put your attachment on here and as you can see over here my attachment is already on my food saver okay then all you have to do is go ahead and click let me show you the button click the button that says canister which is this one right here alright and then it will seal and it will stop when it's done okay all right there you go now that it's done all you have to do is pop this attachment on and you'll hear a small hiss hear that now when you take your lid off when you take your attachment off now you want to take it off at an angle because if you try to take it off straight up it may pull the lid off so what I do is I just go from one side like this and I take it off nice and slowly and as you can see there's a very good seal on that this thing will last for years okay this posture right now if you store this pasta you know in a room that maintains a temperature between I would say between 55 and 70 degrees this thing will be around for another 30 years and you'll still be able to enjoy it and MA when I put my lid on this I do put it on a little bit snug okay and you should be good to go all right let's go ahead and do another one real quick and then we'll go on to the next way that I do write this next method I think will be best for individuals who maybe don't have these attachments all right but they do have a food saver with food saver bags now these attachments ladies and gentlemen you know what I don't even think I've ever put out a link for these but I'll leave a link for these because they're not very expensive and I'll tell you what they're extremely handy to have no very nice to have especially if you already have the jars okay I'll leave a link for these so you guys can check them out and I believe I've left the link for a food saver before and some people had taken advantage of that but let's go ahead and do this one there you go you just take this off and look at that it's so easy to do you can do with one hand ladies and gentlemen well I lied you have to hold the jar not enough leverage we're not enough weight in the jar to do one half there you go and that's done simple as that now the reason I want to show off the other way that I do it with the FoodSaver bags is because honestly these guys right here they're not that cheap alright these jars alright if you're gonna be putting away it's just shy of two pounds of pasta but you're gonna be putting away this jar this pasta in here cost less than what this jar costs see and that's what I mean and I feel that using the food saver bags it's a little more economical because what you're doing is this you're investing in this jar and you're not going to use this jar again until this pasta is used up right so if you're going to invest in this jar and you're going to invest more in this jar than what the actual food in there cost you then to some people that may not be very cost efficient right but the food saver bags are a lot less expensive okay and you can also reuse the food saver bags as well okay so we'll be back here in a second and I'll show you how I do the food saver bags with the pasta alright ladies and gentlemen we're back so what we're gonna do is this so I've got these I believe these are my two quart size bags not sure maybe half gallon size bag yeah from that came with a food saver package that I bought our bags alright and these are just big enough to fit one of my bags of pasta all right one of my one-pound bags of pasta okay so what we want to do is this we want to find a way or use any way that will mitigate any of this pasta puncturing through the bag alright because these beds are not very thick they're definitely not as thick as two mylar bags so what I've gone to is this I've gone to one of my favorite kitchen items which is parchment paper and let me show you how it is that I do it so what I do is is I go ahead and I measure my parchment paper to about the width of the inside of the bag all right which right there is about right okay and then I just go ahead and cut it let me put that to the side I just go ahead and try to make a nice clean cut okay let me get this out of the way and then once I have that nice clean cut all I do is I fold it in half okay I'm gonna fold this in half very easy right and then I pick my pasta the whole bag without without so without cutting the bag or anything I'll take my pasta I sandwich it in between between oh no I'm sorry you know what I tried that before and it wasn't it easy I take my bag and I put it in here okay so I'm gonna go ahead and paste my bag in here I'm trying to make it so you guys can see right I've put it in here about like that right and just a second let me get a pair of scissors right here all right I'll have a pair of scissors handy and then what I do is I go ahead and grab my bag like this I take my pasta all right now it doesn't matter which side you put it up or down right but I've noticed on this pasta here that there is one side that has the expiration date of it which doesn't really matter too much it's right here okay so I'm gonna just keep this on the bottom side that way I don't cut this off by mistake it'd be nice to be able to know exactly what the expiration date or the best by date alright not expiration it says best by date it's on this package just that way if I open this up in in twenty thirty years I'll be like oh wow look at that you know and of course I'm gonna put my date on this package just something to look back at alright now we're gonna put this in here he's gonna slide it down okay gonna slide it right through it look at that you see that and then you're just gonna bring this back up you're going to cut off first I'll do a split to get rid of my hair you're gonna cut off as much as you can and make sure you don't cut your pure make sure you don't cut your FoodSaver bag my mistake okay now you're ready to go now all you have to do is put your oxygen absorber in here and I'll go ahead and package it with the FoodSaver so let me go ahead and show you guys me doing that and then that will probably be the end of the video because that's what I wanted to show you Hey ladies and gentlemen I'm not sure if in the last clip you notice that I have my a Dutch oven pan out so this is why look at that so I've got my two bags I've got two bags right here I'm not going to go and and do all what do I have ten bags of these I'm just going to show you how I do two of them and then you guys forget the idea from that all right on these since I am vacuuming most of the air out of these two containers I'm going to go ahead and just use one oxygen absorber all right that should be plenty and look at I just from those few minutes that I had sealed that back up but I had already created a seal in my jar here okay all right so we've got our bag let me see if I can use this bag make sure I don't have a lot of room to work with here ladies and gentlemen there we go what you want to make sure of though is you want to make sure that when you put your your lip in there all right you want to make sure that part of your pasta bag all right you want to make sure that part of this pasta bag does not obstruct your heat tape okay because if you do that it's probably gonna end up sticking to the bag I've never done that before but it'll probably end up sticking to this bag and may maybe ruining that part of it okay so you just make sure that you don't have that there you just put that in there close it nice and gently all right all right tighten put on your lock I like to hold my paw stuff like that well this is doing it and maybe even push it back a little bit all right and then all we have to do is is what we have to do is push where it says vacuum seal let me show you all right push where it says vacuum seal now I'm pretty sure they don't sell this FoodSaver type anymore because this is very old there's a very old one and I mean bye-bye I mean don't sell it anymore probably the company doesn't make these anymore you could probably find one somewhere if it's on Craigslist or a garage sale so so you're probably gonna be not gonna be able to find the same one all right however they're all the same concept you're going to have buttons that allow you to to vacuum seal dried goods there's a button for moist goods right there and there is a normal speed button and a fast speed button okay and then when you're going to use a FoodSaver bag to store your stuff you're going to use this button right here okay this one is for the canisters now if you're just sealing bags without evacuating the air from them all right without vacuum in the air out you can just use the seal in and will seal your off your bag without taking any air out okay so we're just gonna go and immediately when doing this you should feel it getting hard right away right it's gonna get pretty pretty hard especially if being caught alright but the good thing about this method is is that you're using the original bag that the pasta came in number one which allows you to preserve the the nutritional information okay number one also that bag is also acting as a barrier between the pasta and the FoodSaver bag and not only that but you have an additional barrier of protection using your your parchment paper now as you can see over here the parchment paper didn't reach all the way to the top however I think that that's gonna be just fine okay I do like to put a second seal on my bags so I always go ahead and just push a second seal you see how I just pushed the seal button and it's not doing any suction all right that's just to give it a second seal or to steal a bag originally okay and look at that ladies and gentlemen that came out pretty good all right now if you want to go through the trouble of getting your parchment paper to go all the way to the top you obviously can okay but I think that this right here will do a really good job you know I'm preserving this and you can still pretty much read through it all right you're gonna know what it is just by being able to look at it but of course you're gonna be able to put your information up here alright so that you can know or anyone can know what it is that's in this container right let's go ahead and do the second one now I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not but any of you that have done food saver bags before and use the food saver you'll know that there's one side of your bag that's like that's got texture to it and then another side that's nice and flat I've always just put my texture side to the bottom side I honestly don't know if that makes a difference or not but that's that's just the way that I've always done it all right and there you go you place that in there back it up let it seal up bring it down just a little bit give it a second seal and you should be good to go all right and there you go ladies and gentlemen easy as that I think that this will hold up pretty well all right just make sure that you store it in a cool dry place temperatures between I would say between 50 and no higher than 70 degrees okay and also if you want an additional barrier of protection go ahead and put this inside of a tote and you should be good to go even better all right well ladies and gentlemen I think that that is it for this video shouldn't be that long of a video so thank you very much for joining in I hope that you guys are having a good start to a new
