hey y'all how's it going today I'm bringing you a video where I'm gonna be talking about these three micro tech knifes that I own where to begin where to begin well a lot of you might be click on this video for the dirac here which is micro Tech's newest offering as of recording this video this is the proof run model with bronze hardware proof run serial number 2:06 made in March 2019 great got this about two weeks ago actually exactly two weeks ago really loving it so far it is a real joy my initial impressions are that it is very very refined refined is probably probably the best word i've come up with and it's actually the word that keeps on coming to mind over and over again great blade really really nice quick snappy easy to deploy lightweight there's a lot of great thing to say off this knife so we get that in a second but today we're gonna be talking about these three so let's deploy them micro tech d rack Microtech troodon ignore some noises in the background that's my dog just doing what dogs do microjet Troodon August 2018 standard-sized Troodon satin blades single edged m390 I should also note that my dear AK is utilizing their new steel for 2019 micro types new steel for 2019 the carpenter 204 P steel which is an American steel they're switching to as opposed to imported super steals from bowler such as in 390 or L max that's what they've been using for a little while now and then we have the UTX 85 so number June 2018 good stuff this one has got a drop-point blade single edged partial serrated stonewash finish in 390 steel so where'd it all start for me well I've loved knives for a long time as a kid growing up I always had all I had a whole bunch of cheap knives my dad has quite a few knives in fact he has a little bit of a collection of Italian switch blades he's even made some knives and uh you know I've I had previously never had what you could call like a high-end type knife and growing up I remember going to a gun show with my dad down here in Florida and seeing this logo and seeing these cool knives looking back I remember they must have been UT x7 when those first dropped wouldn't like Damascus blades like custom type knives Marchione custom Damascus blades like glued Damascus and all kinds of crazy stuff and I remember seeing those and just being enthralled by those how they're just so cool and I I had recently rediscovered them just prior to me buying this rediscovered micro tech researched it found an authorized dealer that's real close to me and I would always recommend buying from authorized authorized dealer unless you're buying secondhand but then you really got no what you're doing but this lamp right here for myself I'm a birthday at the time of buying it was 225 but they they did increase all their prices across the board slightly so I'm gonna be giving you the updated prices for these as I go along UTX 85 as of 2019 has MSRP of two hundred and fifty dollars for the standard version this would be a standard version because it does not have like bronze hardware such as the D rack or it doesn't have like black tactical blacked-out hardware like a specialty type blade style there's some different configurations for these well there's a lot of different configurations for these knives but some of them will command a little higher price than others this is a great night to start where this is pretty much as cheap as you're gonna get it with micro tech now until we find out the actual official MSRP for the D rack because this is a proof run model it was a bit more this one when I bought it was 330 330 dollars wowzers and so we don't know exactly but as it stands right now the utx 85 is a lot of people's entry into micro tech and it's a very very very solid entry because this is a great little knife speaking of size so my hands are about mid to mid small hands my fingers aren't real real fat and my fingers aren't too long so something like this I can grip it with a closed grip really comfortably and as you see it fits beautifully in my hand that's actually one of the reasons apart from the budget considerations why I chose a knife of this size great okay now we're moving on to the micro tech Troodon now why did I buy the Troodon after buying the micro site well part of it is the fact that what they say is true your first micro tech isn't gonna be your only micro tech and that was definitely the case only about two and a half weeks after shelling out you know some hard cash for this thing which was my first you know well you could say higher-end knife which I was happy to do at the time only about two and a half weeks later I ended up shelling out for this one buying from a local another store in my state and having it shipped over because when I had gotten this one this is relatively early into their 2018 batches and as you see to over 580 and I've really wanted one of these bad and they were they were they were selling quick and I want to reserve mine and I got it no but why did I do the upgrade hmm we'll get that in a second hold that thought and then lastly the dirac which has been a real joy and as I said very very refined all right so let's get to it what are you getting with these knives well first of all you're getting knives that are gonna be made in the US as of 2019 they're boasting 100% u.s. materials as well though I think that was different from that would be the L max or m390 blades which were imported blades super Steel's but not us made now they're switching to u.s. made for their limited lifetime warranty so if anything were to malfunction or break within these knives and they were to deem it not a product of Missy use on the user end you know something that would be on the manufacturers end they will replace it or fix it for you and you can also send these knives in at any time to have them sharpened as well and just cleaned up have a little spa day and that only cost about $15 for return shipping excuse me so that's what you're getting you're getting a very very high level of cool with the double action you're getting really really great materials us-made it is a very well produced knife a very great cutting tool some people don't like OT F's I should say some knife people don't like OTS because they would claim that they're not very durable or in a very hard use or some people knife you'll just kind of discount PO tf's but I think that is unwarranted because these are really actually very tough micro tech promotional video you can look it up maybe I'll link it where they did it kind of sort of torture test with the ultra tech which is a slightly larger version of this knife or I should say this 85 is actually a slightly smaller version of their I guess you could say flagship knife the ultra tech this one's 15 percent smaller in the ultra tech and they did it torture test with that one where they hammered it into solid wood stabbed it through some metal sheet metal and even hammered it into some asphalt and it's still function afterwards so these are really durable knives man I mean I don't know how to say if you're looking for something super cool but a really great cutting implement by all means my recommendation is there I don't do any sort of hard use with these knives I don't I don't work in like constructions sort of setting I don't I'm not always in the back just chopping through random not really I usually use I really use these as an everyday tool a cool everyday utility knife I wanted and start incorporating knives into an everyday carry kind of thing and this these market texts are really fantastic for that I mean they're super easy to deploy one-handed operation they're fast they're lightweight wouldn't need you when you need them they're there they're there super sharp and they're freaking cool so for that I can definitely endorse and they're tougher than you think is what I'm getting at here so some comparisons here so let's close these up let's take a look at him side profiles okay let's just make it even by flipping that little baby around okay let's check out some side profiles in fact I'm gonna line it up right over here my camera setup is a little bit off I'm using my phone for this okay let's start with the 85 right down the middle what do you see there you are seeing an even thickness top down from top to bottom you seeing a very very long pocket clip lanyard hole glass breaker if you're looking at this side if so you does have contoured edges it does have a lot of milling or as some people say jimping along for grip there's a very large button that has these little steps on it that really help you get a good good grip on that when you're trying to actuate it and deploy it and you're getting uh pretty even like a little boxy but just uh nice and contoured profile in the pocket okay guys this is the heaviest of these three knives you can look up at all you can look it up online I don't have it in my head but subjectively they're almost like the same SOT it's almost the same weight but they are a bit different if I were to arrange them and heaviest to lightest it'd go this this this this being the lightest alright let's take a look at the Troodon mm-hmm side profile notice is thickest in the middle it gets thinner to both ends okay interesting side profile notice it's a bit wider or you could say taller and it does have this very very aesthetically pleasing and also from usage standpoint very very satisfactory shape to it this one as much as this one's great - hold the 85 degrade to hold this Troodon but I'm holding it I'm getting the good purchase around it oh man this one since it is a little bit flatter you see that profile this one is a bit flatter I could really get my hands around that that is the purchase on that along with all this milling is fantastic part of one of the reasons why I love the Troodon as well as it has a smaller trigger that has less travel that is also easier to actuate in my case these knives do differ a bit I should say if you're looking at like one you takes 85 versus another you 2x 85 they may differ a bit mine is actually quite stiff I'm with my left hand here and I'm having a little bit of trouble with it that doesn't really I don't I'm not complaining I don't mind that it does feel extremely premium regardless this one is a bit easier and for those reasons that I laid out with the form-factor the trigger the grip ability the pocket clip in my opinion is better than that of the 85 it actually does have a deeper carry this little top portion here on the 85 it someone's pants might be able to get through there but not mine and some of my pants I wear kind of thin sort of stretch type jeans and they don't go all the way up in there so when when you're looking at carry you're looking at that if you care but you might if you're watching this video it's a little more lightweight because of its contoured nature and the fact that it's actually wider when it's sitting in the pocket it disappears more in the pocket really and also because this clip stays on top of this jimping initially I thought that would be a bad thing but actually it really really aids in pocket or tension even more so it has a bit of a better clip also has better pocket retention because of that these are super sturdy clothes guys I would definitely recommend them and then you go down to the newest the D rack this is the slimmest one it's kind of hard to tell from this I suppose as far as if you were to talk about how thick they are very similar but as you see does have that sort of oval contoured top and bottom my phone just gave me at a low-power notification which is probably good thing otherwise I'd keep rambling but it is more narrow this one this this guy here he gets real narrow here has this real pleasing shape to it it's real narrow has jimping top bottom Plus this these milled patterns they're super lightweight I mean this the lightest of the three by a good bit and it also has that really great deep carry pocket clip with that second point or attention on here that really you really feel I mean this does also have that as well so I'm not talking about on this clip I simply happen to prefer the clip of the troll and this now Dirac this one is the easiest to deploy I mean not even I don't have to try I mean easy to deploy but a super very fast very snappy the lightest weight has that great pocket clip I like how's it really sexy design as you'll see they change their trigger placement for this knife is this is their first knife where they've done that and this especially these little milling patterns here your fingers sit real nice in that and just easy this is a double-edged blade with VLS sort of black paint black finish yeah double someone so that's my little rundown here some differences if you're looking to get your first Microtech and you don't want something super big and you also want to be budget conscious I say go the 85 all day I can absolutely recommend that if you think you might want to go for the Troodon for the reasons that I mentioned which is definitely justifiable you know there is over $100 a bump and price there but you know that might just be worth it for you I mean it was for me love that blade by the way the milled patterns in there yeah fantastic and then if you're real Microtech dye or you nearly knew the scene this one is so pocketable so small so lightweight has a really confident feel to it especially compared to other manufacturers for a blade of that width and length you don't usually see something that's so eat proportional as this or this those usually a people fat long handle it was a little skinny blade and to me that looks kind of dumb kind of silly nothing they're all like that but just some big manufacturers are like that whereas this is very elegant this is a real elegant refined sort of style that's a really really great addition so guys that's my rundown of these three knives it was my first video so don't be too harsh on me but I hopefully you saw what you wanted to see and you had fun you maybe learn something then maybe if not and I'm not surprised because that's all on me but here you go man this one I mentioned earlier does have a bronze finish to the hardware when you hear people talk about hardware in relation to micro tech knives are talking about the actuation button there slider the screws as well as the pocket clip they're all bronzed so it's the stainless steel kind of people ask hardware as these two but they also add bronze metal if you have some sort of process on top of it proof run so we have yet to see the MSRP on these so when I'm comparing them I can only really compare as one on the unless you want to go out and buy the proof run which is gonna cost you a pretty penny like I said I bought I bought this one for 330 but I've seen him go for over 400 on secondhand market this may very well fall in line between the two I'm suspecting probably or maybe but the same as they trot on but I'd certainly don't see it being the same as 85 price-wise really it all depends what you want but these are all three knives you'd be considering if you want something of this size and you want to OTF and you want to buy protects so alright guys with that I'm gonna wrap it up be well take care
