Mail Call - Fishing Home Made Lures Sent By A Fan

hey what's up everyone it's a beautiful evening and just paddling up to some productive Smalley spots but before we get to fishing it's time a little mail call that's right because tonight I'm gonna fish with whatever 2 lures are in this package sent to me by fan and fellow River fishermen from Tennessee Stephen King so thanks for sending me to Stephen I actually talked to him on the phone the other night so I have a little bit of an idea of what's in here but not really he told me he had a couple of topwater lures that he made himself that he wanted to send me to try on the river that I fish and to not laugh when I see him so this could get interesting get my handy letter opener here open it up and see what we're working with read the letter first see I hope you do a video with these tell me what you like or don't like and what I can change to make them better Thank You Stephen King well Stephen that's exactly what I intend to do tonight to make a video these two lures my goal is to catch five nice smallmouth I'll say 16 inches are better and I'll say two on one three on the other will do a mix at least two on each of them but I want a total of five nice Momo so what's this one called the Fat Boy take a look at Fat Boy at first pretty good hold don't laugh comment that's kind of expecting more along the lines of a couple of wine corks with some googly eyes glued on to him but no these look pretty good now say Stephen I think that these will catch some fish this one let's take a look at the other one here you get the other package there it looks kinda similar this one it's called the buzz stick I do kind of smell like like spray paint so hopefully it's mom oh don't mind the smell of spray paint oh yeah that looks pretty good too they're both made out of whoops both made out of wood it feels this one's kind of like a the Fat Boys kind of like a tiny torpedo a little bit fatter with a double blade and the buzz stick it's got that buzz bait blade followed by a wooden body and kind of a tinsel tail there it was both look pretty good I gotta say I think we'll be able to catch some fish with those well I'm gonna tie these on my two bait casting rods I think I'll put that bud stick on my rod with 30 pound braid here my medium heavy st. Croix Legend tournament just because I figure we'll be fishing that one a little bit higher speed I think the Fat Boy will maybe pop him and pause them a little bit more so I'll throw him on my other rod here with 14 pound mono so I'm gonna get those two lures tied on and we'll throw them and firm some smallmouth see if we can get bit all right I've got the lures tied on let's see what kind of action they have we'll start off with the Fat Boy got that nice dual prop action yeah that should call out to some smallmouth and how about the buzz stick could be wet like that yeah I think that one will work to just toss it up at this point see if anybody's home up their very first cast I don't think he's a big one I just a little guy nailed that buzz stick though well that's a good sign nice nice little guy like 12 or 13 inch or heck I'll take that to start the day this is usually a bigger one hanging out up here though so you better give it a few more cast joke one out there a little bit farther water level is pretty nice here right now I got some flooded grass up there and lots of big boulders that's what I miss there pulling some weeds there we go these rocks do extend off this point a little ways too there's a good one oh maybe not jay-z hit I like the big one oh there's a good one oh yeah I threw it right on top of her head if she came up grab that buzz stick nice yeah that's a good fish I'll get the net for that one come here you well the first nice one of the day on the buzz stick Gigi came out and hammered it instantly that's always nice when they come out and let you know like that yeah put the lure in the right spot I'll get unhooked I don't think we need to measure that one but we'll throw her on the stick I'm pretty sure she's a 17 inch or 17 and a half well there's a nice fish number one on the buzz stick something over there yeah we can nail that bug stick oh it's a good one [Music] come on up here you nice nice sweet it's fish number two on the buzz stick and that's a nice one boat same size that last one maybe a hair bigger will get it unhooked over on the measuring stick yes to Katya yeah that one's got to be close to 1818 on the dot nice well there's big fish number 2 on the buzz stick yeah that one was pretty sweet that threw it up there right in front of that Bush as soon as I hit the water I saw a boil a foot or two up in front of it yeah that fish came out and hammered that buzz stick there we go yeah that's a good one nice one on the buzz stick that's number three on the buzz stick I suppose that means we'll have to switch lures now give a quick measure that one's got to be 16 or better though yep seventeen and a quarter there's nice fish number three all of them on the buzz stick so far yeah that one came out and smashed it pretty good get that guy out of my net and I think it's time to switch lures figure myself of any hazards here so I'm gonna put the bud stick away because we've got three on that one now now we need to get two nice ones on the Fat Boy one was a nice one there's if you had one hanging out over here gotcha oh yeah that one's a pig oh no dude that was like a 19-inch or that was the biggest fish I've hooked into so far today oh that is a bummer all right let's go see if the fat boy can lure any fish out from underneath the grass up here I think I'm gonna have to pretty much drop it right in front of them I don't know if you guys consider this cheating his lungs are hooked in the mouth right now it might be a little bit too shallow up here today oh there was one gotcha Oh No you just snap my lure off that was a nice fish - is that was awesome I had been so sweet to figure - got that one in I was just dipping that fat boy down along that grass line he came out and grabbed it and snap it when it's a sickening feeling well it happened no going back and preventing it now I guess we'll just make the best of the situation and continue on at that buzz stick I don't think anything's gonna snap off my thirty pound braid on that guy at least but we'll see if we can get a couple more on that at least catch catch our five smallies on one of those lures oh I missed him there was one up there check these hooks hooks look alright I mean they're not the sharpest hooks out there I could sharpen them but I'm running a lot of time here there's just a little one I'm pretty sure of it there's a good one yeah yet the grass is where they are at today well there's number four a nice one on the buzz stick and I'm still bummed I lost that Fat Boy lure but hey at least I got a lump camera that's a nice one on the buzz stick Thank You Stephen they've been liking that buzz stick today well there's number four now we just need one more and we can call it kind of a semi success I didn't get my two on the fat boy but I can get five on that buzz stick I'll be pretty happy five quality fish mostly because I was up this morning and the bite was terrible has thrown the Walker flour on another stretcher ever this morning and he says out there about three hours I got one nice fish few little Dinks but I was like should I do this challenge today or should I wait for another day [Music] now we're doing all right we're gonna come down to the wire I think getting that fifth fish oh it's crunch time the sun's down below the tree line you got probably about an hour of light left so I'm gonna have to turn around and start heading back downstream here pretty soon I'm hoping this grass over here is holding something [Applause] Oh eNOS dude I got a hook that stuck her one of these times keeps biting at it at least giving me plenty of chances I'm just hanging out right underneath that grass where that stick that's coming out of you got you that time oh yeah there is fish number five and that is a heck of a fish to end the night on right there jiae's she gave me plenty of chances she was hiding right underneath the grass over by that little stick sticking out there through my liver up there about a half-dozen times and you gotta caught up in the grass and is dangled it and she kept coming out and swiping at it finally I hooked into her well there is fish number five on the buzz stick I had to work for him tonight and cover a little bit of water but we got five of them on that lure hey I'm still a little bit bummed I lost the Fat Boy but hey it's been a pretty good day out here well let her go and I'm gonna start making my way back downstream because I'm running out of daylight gotcha man only took about five times to get but he got it one more for the road because that was probably 16 or better - I bet it is we'll throw her on the measuring stick here as soon as I get the hooks out of the way if we have enough time before we hit the rapids I think that one might hit 16 oh yeah seventeen and a quarter well there's quality fish number six on that buzz stick well bowling this one floats my way back downstream well I gotta say thank you to Steven for sending me the lures to try I wish I still had both of them but yeah we've got some nice fish on this Bud stick hooked into a couple nice ones on the Fat Boy I just couldn't keep them on and couldn't keep my lure on the line hey oh it's fun though trying something new little something different you know what I think this would make an awesome series of videos to let me know what you guys think in the comment section down below maybe some of you guys have some homemade lures you'd like to send in to me and have me try out here on the Smalley proving grounds let me know what you think if there's no Pinterest heck I'll go get a peel box and you guys can start sending stuff for me to try I think that'd be a lot of fun well I'm gonna keep on paddling downstream back to my vehicle thanks for coming along with me again I'll see you next time
