Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary | Glendalough

hello everyone I'm father Reid thank you for joining me today and praying the Joyful Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary we're in Ireland actually in beautiful glendalough located in the valley of the two lakes it's quite a tourist attraction for many reasons because of its natural beauty and wildlife and archaeology but also because of the deep faith the Catholic faith that has been preserved and spread from this place saint kevin himself established a monastery here in the 6th century and in fact this is the parish church dedicated to st. kevin and we just thought it would be a wonderful place to be able to pray together today the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary so let's begin our prayer in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit amen I believe in God the Father Almighty Creator of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit born of the Virgin Mary suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell the third day he rose again he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead I believe in the Holy Spirit the Holy Catholic Church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead mystery the Annunciation it was the angel Gabriel that brought this incredible announcement and Mary said yes to God's plan God's will for her and so there was such an intimacy between Mary and Jesus from that first moment of his conception let's not forget that she felt the life of Jesus grow within her the connection between her heart and his is so incredibly close so unbelievably intimate and so we ask for the Blessed Mother's intercession her prayers for us today because she is so very close and has been since that moment of the Annunciation our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy forgive us our sins save us from the fires of hell lead all souls into heaven especially those who are in most need of thy mercy the second joyful mystery the visitation we know from the gospel account that Mary went to visit her kinswoman Elizabeth who was also with child and in that moment they encountered one another and as people of faith as women of faith they shared that faith one to the other it is in the encounter that we have with one another the Adhir praying the rosary together at Sunday Mass and our parish in quiet conversation with the friends it is in that encounter one with the other each of us made in the likeness of the Creator that we truly encounter the Lord Jesus so as Mary encountered Elizabeth and brought Jesus with her carrying him in her womb they experienced a moment of great faith of faith sharing and that happens whenever we encounter one another especially in our prayer and so together we pray our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into glorious night that mystery we celebrate each year at Christmas the wonderful hymns of that season angels we have heard on high away in a manger oh come let us adore him Christ award in that moment of the Nativity earth meets heaven the divine person takes on our human condition we as a human family and counter God in a most incredible way in the flesh in a baby placed in an animal feeder our without end amen Oh My Jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fires of hell lead all souls into heaven especially those who are in most need of thy mercy the fourth joyful mystery the presentation of Jesus in the temple Joseph and Mary brought their child to the temple to be presented so as to fulfill their duty and in doing that they encountered Simeon who prophesied about the sufferings that their child would endure and he predicted - that a sword would pierce Mary's heart and from that moment on whenever she looked at her precious child she knew that he would suffer and that so would she but Simeon also prophesied that many would be saved because of his suffering in hers our lives are by their very nature filled with suffering and tragedy but oftentimes through tragedy comes hope and so we pray that God would give us hope even in the midst of our difficulties our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us especially those who are in most need of thy mercy the fifth and the final joyful mystery the finding of Jesus in the temple certainly Mary and Joseph were completely overjoyed finding their son and he said to them did you not know that I had to be in my father's house so they learned firsthand the intimate relationship that Jesus had enjoyed with his father and then the gospel tells us the account tells us that Jesus was obedient to them and so we learned that Jesus though he is the son of God learned obedience from his relationship to his parents and his family and he learned obedience from what he would suffer as we meditate on this mystery of the finding of Jesus in the temple we pray for the grace to be obedient to God's will in our lives and to learn from Jesus himself about the intimate relationship that we share as redeemed men and women baptized into the family of God the Father our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of everlasting life grant we beseech thee that by meditating on these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary we may both imitate
