[Music] you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hello everyone I'm father Reed thanks for joining me in praying together the luminous mysteries of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary it is a glorious day here in the Eternal City the city of Rome you can see it all from here we're high atop the Janicki ylim hill on the roof of the Pontifical North American College the seminary for students preparing for the priesthood men preparing for the priesthood of the many Diocese of the United States of America this rosary is really focused on this Eternal City and the faith the eternal faith that was born here and continues to live in the church Universal and so together we pray this Holy Rosary and meditate on the luminous mysteries the mysteries of light and together we begin in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit amen I believe in God the Father the Almighty maker of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit born of the Virgin Mary suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended to the dead on the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father he will come again in glory to judge the living in the dead and his kingdom will have no end we believe in the Holy Spirit the Holy Catholic Church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sin the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil amen hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen hail mary full of grace the Lord is with thee blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen hail mary full of grace the Lord is with thee blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end amen Oh My Jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fires of hell lead all souls into heaven especially those who are in most need of thy mercy the first luminous mystery the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan Jesus came to John at the Jordan River and submitted himself to baptism there was one great church Basilica here in the city the Church of st. Mary major the Basilica which is the number one Church in this city dedicated to Mary it's the largest and most honored but in these churches I remember as a student often seeing couples celebrating their weddings couples come here to Rome to to celebrate their wedding their honeymoon they have here in Rome and throughout Italy I think people come here not just for their weddings but on pilgrimage because they feel here in this city an eternal sense of God and of the faith not just because there were so many churches not just because the Vatican is here and st. Paul who proclaimed the gospel so fiercely the proclamation of the gospel is something that the men here at the North American College who are being formed for the priesthood certainly have in mind because it will be that proclamation that they are charged with as priests I ask you to pray for them as we meditate on this mystery of the proclamation of the kingdom of God let's remember as we look out over this glorious City that the kingdom of God is already here now but not yet as the Italians say it's JA mono non Cora as we look forward to the coming of God's kingdom we pray for that coming forth luminous mystery the Transfiguration the Gospels tell us that Jesus went up a high mountain well this is a city of many hills I think of a capital I and the Palatine I think of the Vatican Hill and the Janicki ylim hill on which we stand it was a place like this that Jesus took Peter James and John and there he was completely changed in appearance he was transfigured his clothes became whiter than any bleach could make them it was a incredible moment of strength for those three disciples of Jesus and you know God gives us these Transfiguration moments every once in our once in a while in our lives it could be something as simple as a smile of a child or a wonderful conversation with the friends you know or a moment of quiet prayer or something great that happens in our lives that we didn't expect there are almost moments of Transfiguration when God shows his glory to us a little peek a little preview of what is yet to come and so let's meditate upon those Transfiguration moments as we offer this decade of the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day in most need of thy mercy the fifth in the final luminous mystery the institution of the Holy Eucharist in this Eternal City mass is celebrated in the basilica's and churches and chapels countless times each day by the Holy Father himself Cardinals bishops priests student priests here at the Pontifical North American College that gift of the Eucharist that Jesus gave to his apostles on the evening before he gave his life for us it celebrated countless times each day in the city and all throughout the world and what a tremendous gift it is Jesus gave himself to us his flesh and blood to be our food as we journey through this life toward eternal life this final mystery of the luminous mysteries of the Holy Rosary asks us to reflect upon that great gift his body and blood the Holy Eucharist which Jesus instituted at the Last Supper and so together we pray our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil amen hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with Peter's Basilica and the Apostolic Palace and I cannot help but think of our Holy Father and so let us pray this hail holy queen ki in mind his intentions his health and his mission to be the successor of Peter hail holy Queen Mother of mercy our life our sweetness in our home to thee do we cry poor banished children of Eve to thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears turn then most gracious advocate thine eyes of mercy toward us and after this our exile show unto us the Blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus o Clement o loving o sweet Virgin Mary pray for us o Holy Mother of God that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ let us pray O God has only begotten a son by his life death and resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of everlasting life grant we beseech thee that by meditating on these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promised for the same Christ our Lord amen may the divine assistance remain always with us may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace Holy Mother with thy loving child thy blessing give to us this day in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit amen well it's been great praying with you and meditating upon these luminous mysteries of the Holy Rosary here in the city illuminated by the Sun on this glorious day the eternal city of Rome I ask that you keep in mind and in your prayers the men who prepare for the priesthood here for diocese all over the United States pray for them that they will hear and answer God's call and as we conclude this broadcast of the Rosary we leave you with scenes from all over the eternal city of Rome god bless everyone [Music] [Music] [Music]
