you Oh everyone I'm father Reid and thank you for joining me in praying today the luminous mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary we're in a very special place we're here on the grounds of the monastery of clonmacnoise which is Irish for meadow of the sons of nose it's situated in County Offaly here in Ireland just up the hill from the river Shannon that you can see behind me clonmacnoise was founded in 546 by st. Kiernan was a young man at the time later a bishop in fact st. Kiernan is buried just near me here in the smallest of the ruins one of the churches here on the meadow the strategic location of this monastery helped it become a major Centre for religion and learning and craftsmanship and trade all this by the 9th century and together with Clinard it was one of the most famous in Ireland it's been visited by scholars from all over Europe for centuries from the 9th to the 11th century it was allied with the kings of Meath in fact many of the high Kings are buried here in clonmacnoise today a preserved ruin we have the opportunity to pray here connected with people of faith down through the ages and so we begin with the sign of our faith in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit amen I believe in God the Father Almighty Creator of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit born of the Virgin Mary he suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty from there he shall come to judge the living in the dead I believe in the Holy Spirit the Holy Catholic Church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen our Father who art in heaven first of the Luminous Mysteries the baptism of Jesus Jesus was baptized as we know by John in the Jordan River and on that occasion in that sacred moment the water of this earth including the water of the Shannon River here behind me was made holy for your baptism and for mine this sacrament we know washes away original sin and makes each one of us a sister a brother of Jesus Christ who himself was baptized in the Jordan we are made children of God and as a child of God we are heirs to the kingdom of heaven and so we pray our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy fires of hell lead all souls into heaven especially those who are in most need of thy mercy the second of the Luminous Mysteries the wedding feast at Cana Mary was not only present at the wedding at Cana at the moment of Jesus first of his great signs as miracles but she encouraged him to perform that miracle out of a sense of care and concern for the newly married couple and all of their guests do whatever he tells you she told them she encouraged her son to perform this great sign and he did so at her request but this be a lesson for us today and all the days of our life Mary is our greatest advocate she is our mother and she encourages us to do whatever Jesus tells us and so we pray our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as Jesus is the king of your heart and mine and this entire world indeed the universe and he begs us to be truly courageous enough to be his follower in both our personal and our public life our Father Transfiguration of Jesus he was transfigured atop a high mountain before his three friends they saw his glory let this bring to your mind and to my mind the glory that awaits us when we pass from this life we are surrounded here in this burial ground with the remains of so many who have lived life as we have but with the necessary sacrifices that come our way the crosses that we carry you pray as we meditate on this mystery for the grace to attain that life that glory which Jesus apostle saw in him when he was transfigured without the cross however there can be no crown and so we pray our mystery the institution of the Holy Eucharist in side the walls of these ruined churches and Cathedral the Eucharist was often celebrated centuries ago and today we still celebrate that same meal that remembrance of the Last Supper that unbloody reenact of the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ in which the grace of our redemption is made present to us and he himself is truly present that incredible union between the Lord and us happens in a way like none else in the gift of the Holy Eucharist as we meditate on this mystery of the institution of that incredible sacrament we remember how he became like us and now we pray that we will become like the one whom we consumed our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven us the rewards of everlasting life grant we beseech thee that by meditating on these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what
