Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary | South Boston

hello I'm father Reid and thank you for joining me in praying the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary meditating as we will today on the Glorious Mysteries here in the Magnificent gate of heaven Church in South Boston Catholics have been worshipping here since the establishment of this parish in 1863 and it remains with the other churches in South Boston and South Boston Catholic Academy a true force for the new evangelization today we come together in this beautifully stunning church to pray together and meditate on these glorious mysteries in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit amen I believe in God the Father Almighty Creator of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit born of the Virgin Mary suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty from there he shall come to judge the living in the dead I believe in the Holy Spirit the Holy Catholic Church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen our resurrection of Jesus this is a truly profound mystery of our faith that Jesus who gave himself completely through his passion and his death on the cross was restored to new life rose from the dead on that first Easter morning so profound a mystery is this that no one witnessed it but yet they came and found the tomb empty and over the course of many days Jesus appeared to the Apostles to his mother his friends and disciples many times sharing with them the good news of new life and so meditating on this most profound mystery of our faith that Jesus who died for our sake is truly alive and glorious mystery the Ascension of Jesus into heaven if we can rightly say that Jesus by his death and resurrection has opened the gate of heaven to us then in this majestic moment witnessed by his chosen bands Jesus ascended by his own power through the gate of heaven into glory as the liturgy tells us where he has gone we hope to follow because Jesus having renewed our humanity carried it to heaven in majesty we meditate upon this mystery with the hope that we will follow our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give especially those who are in most need of the merci the third glorious mystery the descent of the holy spirit upon the apostles and Mary I don't know about you but often times I feel as if I need a miracle in my life I need some physical substantial proof that God is real that Jesus is alive well if ever any one received that proof it was the frightened apostles in the upper room when the Holy Spirit came the power of God was seen and heard and felt and I'm certain of that one because the Acts of the Apostles tells us so but also because from that moment forward those Friends of Jesus were truly friends they spoke the gospel clearly and courageously some of them even to the point of giving their lives as we meditate upon this mystery of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and upon his mother the mother of Jesus let's ask for that kind of power to come upon us that the Holy Spirit might inspire us to preach the gospel that we have come to know by our words and our deeds the assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary body and soul into heaven she who was blessed among women now is seen as truly blessed her own son allowed that she be brought through the gate of heaven body and soul to share in the fullness of his risen life as we meditate upon this mystery today we live as people in the midst of this sometimes dark and sinful world we live as people of hope and we look to Mary in the Saints for their prayerful intercession that one day we might enjoy that same fullness of life that Mary enjoys that we might be blessed as she is blessed that we too might pass body thy mercy the fifth and the final of the Glorious Mysteries the coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary we meditate upon this mystery of Mary being crowned queen of the Angels queen of the saints the Queen of Heaven Queen of the Universe I think every one of us enjoys seeing our mothers honored and we honor our mothers with our love and our gifts but in this mystery we meditate upon how Jesus so honored his mother that he made her queen of everything and in her being honored we see the glory of motherhood revealed and we see as well our own mother crowned and honored we know her to be our greatest friend and intercessor and so as we pray and meditate on this mystery we pray that she by her prayers she our queen and mother might open for us the gate of heaven and be for us that very gate and so we pray our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we worthy of the promises of Christ let us pray O God whose only begotten son by his life death and resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of everlasting life grant we beseech thee that by meditating on these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promised through the same Christ our Lord amen may the divine assistance remain always with us may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace Holy Mother with thy loving child thy blessing give to us this day in the name of
