John Malkovich Can't Cope With Aisling Bea's Malaysian Stand Up Story | The Jonathan Ross Show

sad listen I mentioned early on now I always I knew you as a comedian I'd seen your comedy work I loved your comedy work but I know you started as an actor you didn't start as a comedian yeah like I've been working as I say I was in that hole obesity John's hold me I was like oh yeah cheeky a little bit of cancer I'm cute ated leg yes please the role is an exploding boob job mm-hmm so you play the woman at both boobs exploded oh no just the one actually I was quite lucky just the one went off [Music] you remember which one you are you look at things John we did the left all the way I I went to let me go back into character Oh Oh is the right you're just back from Los Angeles I believe you've been at that you've been all this you've been looking for work out there Ben yeah I mean it's it's an odd place like a gig there when I'm there I do a lot of stand-up and that's nice because you can create a little community for yourself because during the day you're just going from casting to casting and it can be a little bit don't dig your dish so much for you did you have a long period with this thing before you you got bigger pants on I only have had one audition Oh God [Laughter] I didn't get the part what was it for I think for a bank yeah all I remember about it is they kept giving a line reading which was something like if I get that new apartment and you know you're kind of like wait the exciting thing asking though is that you know the acting is certainly taking off over here cuz you've just finished filming a part in in the fall yeah Jamie Dornan on that's coming out here Wow that's my serious face and ya know it's great because it was I the director Alan and writer Alan cubit took a real chance now that he took a chance on me but if I'd done so much comedy that for him to decide that I wasn't just a comedian that I could actually do the part was like really special that's not the biggest part in the world but I loved it and it's also like it's the opposite to me she's very still that's very stillness to the character she has a Northern Irish accent I hope you do because you have the southern Irish yes so is it is it easier for you to do a Northern Irish than it would be for me or John do you think caused it yes can you do accents oh yes I can that's the northern eye thanks your grace you should do a lot of wool bird walks toward West [Applause] then you asked about the foreign bodies you just filmed that in Malaysia were you filming in Malaysia so this is Tom Basden who's a wonderful stand up and writer as well you wrote plebs he's done a new show for efore here and then I think it's TNT in the States and it's all about a group of gafieira students so and I was like a sort of weirdo they came across in their travels and very very tough roles to get into there we were able Asia for a whole month and was unbelievable to be out there and but I'm not genetically made to be in the jungle like it's the wrong I'm the wrong I'm like as Irish as a stove there's nothing and like the pores are too small to let air in or out sweating because it's kuala lumpur is in a city built in the jungle so it's I was cutting like even I can people to go to shake my hand I'm like no fist bump fist bump Lisa fund any blankets she just hands me ham we did this one scene where and I was like a sexy scene and I was a bit nervous about it and at first I thought I was gonna have to get my website boy damn I thought but you lost one but what an experience [Music] negligee and we were in this ungodly of the other actor Tristan Gravelle he had to be naked so he had like a little sock on his large head saying are his look loud it would be the Irish for yes we were there in the sweaty room would like the nine men and but there was like the cameraman and the first ad and everyone and then they had to turn off the aircon in this little hotel because there's making too much buzzing on the side and the heat I mean it was like we were all creating rain with our own bodies the woman is doing costume didn't speak much English and she was just like a bit loud like that sort of you know when someone pretends to whisper in a house that she came over to me she's like your boobs making water on cotton wall and I was like you want me to put cotton Oh God so I had to put cotton wool underneath my boobs and it stayed there which is that faman tech famous test of a then and so we went on with the scene I was feeling a bit undignified when we were sort of being a bit sexy and then she came back I was like now you're back and I was like oh my back she's like no further dye my ass crack down the middle and then eventually she just got a hair dryer like I don't feel a lot of time often you get to enjoy I've know been in Malaysia do you get to enjoy it so yeah we did we'd lowered the time off and we put on a few gigs while I write there because we did some stand-up over there and it was amazing to see like the equivalent of cuz stand-ups relatively new there it's kind of about 10 years old and the clubs are all about ten years old and it's amazing there's a big Chinese Malaysian community as well and I was amazing to see their version of what's the deal with aeroplanes food because which is like kind of like really hack stand-up maybe like oh my god you know what it's like when you've got a big exam and your mother goes and leaves a chicken at the temple and people like oh my god I know what that's like and you make a little commute like I was talking with Jon Arryn Iran that like in LA like you make a little community for yourself and stand up and you meet people around the world and so now I've got loads of like Malaysian pals and like stand-up pals there's great Andy are you commercial are you a single I believe on you were you dating out there I'm not going to go out with you Jonathan like I was on this show by merit and that's not gonna [Music] [Applause] how does the chicken at the temple joke and probably what it was it wasn't even a great guy it was just like hey guys you know it's like it when you walk and you fall over people [Applause] [Music] you thought this was old material it's the best job and she was like this is gonna sound stupid so don't don't say this on the show but it's John Malkovich anything to do with em you know the movie as I don't say it don't say Dante's Being John Malkovich do you get that a lot though do people ask you what it's like being John Malkovich I do get that mostly from journalists but the thing I get the most is people come up there's somebody did it up a little you know off-licence shop yesterday down by where we stay they always say I look like John Malkovich yes anybody ever told me that my god no you sound like John they really know John Malkovich would never come into an office and says gee yes you
