Insane 5% Traffic...Enough to make a Grown Mayor CRY in Cities Skylines!

so what can you do when your city is collapsing around you nothing can get through roads are clogged and your traffic is at 5% I know what you do you give me a call and we'll fix it up let's go hello everybody my name is biffer and this is the city of Los Rico that's been sent in by a Dean Cole and boy do we have some traffic problems as you saw in the introduction of the traffic is absolutely horrendous it's been down as low as 5% and oh my goodness me is this you've got like a train line going through the middle underneath there you built all this up okay all right I'll see what you're doing I see what you're doing but look at it look at it this is the longest tailback I have ever seen it is absolutely not so the tailback starts over here well then it goes down here it goes all the way down here down here down here down here down here down here down here down this road is the never-ending Road starts over here goes all the way along here never-ending tailbacks never-ending tailbacks all the way down to hit just it is just nuts so we're gonna try and sort this city out so wish me luck because I don't know what I'm gonna do what are we at 9% okay so let's just take a look at this a piece at a time how is your highway access Wow your highway access is just absolutely look I just have to get a screenshot of that pause there we go so yeah they're all coming over into this one lane but from this guy he's got this sense to like not go anywhere near this city then they're all coming off to go into here we need to give these guys some more highway access we've got highway access they're highway access they're the highway sort of carries on down and then stops here by the look of it where does that go to so it goes underground arcane comes up and hits this roundabout here so if we could carry on that highway sort of round here and hook it up again over here somewhere that would give all of this traffic more than one way in and out oh my goodness what I've just realized it's not a gigantic mountain all right okay well we're gonna get something going here quite what we gonna do but we're gonna do something okay there we go we've got a mountain load coming up on each side yeah we'll see how that goes it's pretty steep isn't it but yeah I didn't realize that that thing was down there normally I would have put roundabouts in there and whatever whatever they've got some roads in and out and then we just need to have this highway here continuing through the city and then we'll do some other connections so what we are gonna do let's just pause again okay so this highway now goes all the way around the outside of the city you've got some more connections there so now we can start connecting other parts of the city up to the highway in different places so they're not all trying to get in through the same little junctions over here so I'm gonna add in a few intersections and then I'll be back with you okay so all the highways are sorted now go in the right direction we've got this little connection here which I'll be fine it's not too busy there I'm thinking we'll put like a roundabout or something in this section good it's a big crossroads between these two areas and we could have it connects up to the highway and also connects up to here as well I think that would be a good idea okay so we've got a connection down here which I've just got going into the sides here we'll see how that goes if this area got super busy you can have that going in and that going out or something like that we need to just quickly set up this roundabouts a giveaway coming on and look at the junctions and we'll say yeah Junction restrictions you can go straight through using your Street go that way round it does yes that's the other not the way round I normally have my roundabouts going this one goes that way and that what that one goes that way and that way what is going on with this road here huh this roundabout goes two different ways at the same time well I didn't do that that wasn't me good job I spotted this wasn't it so let's fix this out you want that going into there and you want that going round that way like that so that I'll actually work correctly there we go good and then it become over here I've got this one here we also need to set this up before it gets to you filled up the cars or getting in each other's way so you're gonna give way coming on you're gonna give way coming on you're gonna give way coming on and you're gonna give way coming on you're going off and then we're going to set the junction to say enter the junctions let's find it what that does people ask you what does that do if you look at the little picture it's got a little picture of a junction like a cross four-way junction and it's saying don't stop so what cars will do is I come up to here and stop because it's just a junction but there's no need it's around about they can go straight through and if these are going they can go straight through and we'll do that one as well yep that's fine and then I've connected that Road up to here which some are already using just to give out access to this area and then we've got one more down here let's just do this one as well so at the moment some of these aren't going to be that busy because all the cars are stuck so we might just have to let the game run for a little bit and I hope that the cars unstick themselves there we go and there we go could add another connection there but I thought that's okay so yeah we've got lots more connections just trying to think what to do here because at the minute everything's coming off of here to go up there then to go into here so ideally I'd like a better sort of junction between these two sections I mean there is that one there which they should start using instead and then we could maybe you know what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna actually disconnect that I'm gonna disconnect that so they now can't cross from one side to the other where does that road go down that connects to the highway yeah so they have to use another way to go around what's my traffic 12% is going out it's gonna take a while for all of this to disappears I think I'm gonna run the game on fast and let's just see if we can get this on that stuck okay so traffic is up to 34 percent we've still got a few spots where the traffic is building up and going rather slowly and backing up on the highway and like that that is just gonna happen because of other traffic but what we can do here just to make sure that yeah everybody can come off and go forward and do all that sort of thing without messing around actually we're just a very quick little lane tweak here and say that Lane isn't the straight on but those two are and then hopefully some of these cars here that are all backing up some of them will start going forward and going over this way that's what we want to see you can tell things are bad when trucks start driving over the top of other trucks good grief and what we're gonna do on this roundabout as well is I'm gonna take these lanes here can I get this one there we go and just allow one to go off so we have thick outside lane to go right and these other two to go straight on we'll do the same there look at the row damos there we go so just the outside one to go did I say right I meant left and outside one to go left the other two to go straight on and we'll do the same there as well that just keeps things moving round much more smoothly and yeah they all go straight on that is fine and we'll just do the same here for these cars coming off this way so we'll just say this one lane going off and those two straight on and in what I'll do is I'll stop them switch in a couple back and I did that over here as well so hopefully wants to get themselves sorted out it will stop doing all this look at it oh my goodness me lots of them are coming off of here and although that's not the worst offender because look there's still space there it's just the fact that nobody could move do you know what on around about this this busy see I normally put on both of these four junctions going through I'm gonna turn off the one for the cars coming on so they are gonna have to stop there which will leave what's on the roundabouts to actually be able to move normally if the traffic isn't too busy you can put both on but I'm gonna do that and once they get going a bit you'll find that will start moving a bit better what have we got here we've got a biofuel bus step oh right here I bet you've got millions of buses let's have a look at your set up here so 29 vehicles no passengers that's just going to go there is absolutely no point 13 vehicles seven vehicles okay not too bad for the other ones possibly could do with some more vehicles and some of these look absolutely filled up so we're gonna give more vehicles to this one let's go for 12 and this one here I'm just looking at all the stops II got some stops down here with people I'm not quite enough buses you've got 13 buses on here let's go up to 13 14 15 16 I'm trying to get to yep there we go let's get back over here I would not put my bus depot right here can that is just blocking out all of this with the cars trying to come out let's move that over here on a side road and then I've got access to the highway through this roundabout here that's not too busy with what we're gonna find that the buses are still coming out of here are they no that's fine good good good there we go that roundabout is moving a bit freer now which is what we want to see and the sooner that clears out the sooner this will all clear up as well so let's just see what's going on down here now as usual you want your main road that's going through to have the ability to keep moving and to keep going through so I'm just wondering whether you've got what have you got here you got bus stops I'm not gonna fit it with your bus stops I'm gonna leave those for now what we're gonna do is we're gonna go along here and say that you roads coming on have to give why that's one way obviously you have to give why and I'm gonna do that all the way along here and let's go back to the end of the road and then what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take our Junction restrictions and I am gonna say that if you're going on this main road you can go straight through you can go straight through all the way along there we go I'm not gonna bother with the one where the traffic lights will just let the traffic lights take care of that that's it there we go so let's just see how this is good look already starting to clear up and move that is fantastic I think what's happening down here is we've got people hogging the outside lanes and then buses will stop and get in the way so what I'm gonna do is do a bit of lane management here this way this is one way coming in look 32% traffic you've gone up and down and round okay that's fine I've gotta be honest I would just keep this not that big and also you don't need to use these massive massive roads up there so I'm just going to change these just don't need that many lanes let's give them all two-way access in and out there we go and just keep that moving keep that moving and then hopefully yeah we get in just two lanes four turnings whoa what is all that malarkey going on in there what so it's not a junction in there is there I don't know what is happening there ever I think they're gonna keep doing that and there's nothing I can there's no junction to pick do you know what you might have to do is rebuild that road let me just pick that road okay there we go let's just see if they keep doing that as they come along no I think that's it I have no idea why it's doing that but anyway but yeah look this road here it's got a lot of parking on it but it's freed up quite a lot and this roundabout is moving freely there at the lane switching and stuff going on but what are we at 32% let's find some other hot spots we'll come back to this area what the heck so they're all trying to come down onto this main roads here through here oh my life hits over there all of this is all trying to come through here probably to get back on the highway I'd imagine and they just can't get out look they cannot get out so we do need a roundabout here to keep this moving and just move that over there at the way we're gonna use the roundabout mods there we go and we are gonna pick up highway roads is about the size I think we need a little bit bigger we're gonna get rid of some houses here but that is just sort of tough okay so the roundabouts set up the traffic is so bad coming off of it that they're struggling to get around I'm just sort of looking to see where them they're going most of them are going straight on and they're all heading down here to this Junction and then they're heading off my knife is this all one-way Road this is all you've got weird one-way roads everywhere you've funneled everything from all of this one way up here and you've got this little one-way road for everybody else to go down there no okay yeah we're changing this you can't do that so this little teeny tiny roads and this little teeny tiny road that is all garyun you gotta have a roundabout in here for all of this mess just to keep it moving let's go a little bit big a three lane highway bish bash Bosh yeah and then we're gonna pick this road you've got over here so we'll do your one way thing like you've got it so that will go in there ah darn it I forgot to brace the roundabouts and now the shapes gone a bit Winky wonky let me just fix this up there we go we'll just make sure that these are all set up correctly so that should that's something gonna go straight in let's just let that run a bit and see how that goes I've got lots of lanes going office we might need to do a little bit of lane jiggery-pokery but already look we can see all of this is going through which is what we want to see and that'll stop this all backing up and that will free up that up there what do we have thirty-one percent I might just do the lane thingamajiggy that we've been doing here so we're only having this one lane going off and the other two lanes going on see I would have put this as the one going in and that is the one going out because that one comes in first so you know I'm gonna do is I'm gonna change these lanes around yes so there go in the other direction and then the traffic isn't really cutting across each other so let me just do that there we go all these cars are gonna have a conniption fit and say well we're gonna go the other way there we go and eventually they're gonna work their way around so let's give this a bit of a go and once all this traffic's gone hopefully then things will keep moving let's just do this lane here as well there we go so that one to go left and these two to go straight on this one we did so now we need to do this one as well I mean I want to go left these two to go straight on cool okay let this one again for a little bit more okay so the traffic's getting down it was backed up to light back here now it's only backed up to here I've just upgraded this little section to four lanes just to get more trucks going through now you're always gonna have a huge load of trucks coming down there and not just because of all this industry but because you've got this cargo terminal here now I would perhaps not connect this cargo terminal to this section there but have it connect to the highway because then that way let's have a look let's grab this little roads here that way you don't have all of that extra cargo truck staff heading off into your city okay there we go so not maybe the best junction in the world ever but you've got access to go both ways on the highway there we go in and out and then what we're going to do is we're going to remove it from being connected there we go to the rest of this area up here and we'll just change those roads to two-way roads these will do let's just do that there we go so that's now we've moved all the traffic that's coming in from our cargo train terminal away from everything else and let's have a look so yeah that's cleared up down here nice you already it's just getting a bit busy but we'll just let that keep running yeah I did a little test I connected up the loads here again and it was just too much traffic and it starts backing up down here so we'll just have that separated like that onto the highway on and off nice and moving and that will be good so this is all freed up now this is all freed up now what I did here to try and keep this going and not blocking out was I've got two lanes to turn two lanes for straight on and I've stopped them Lane switchin all the way down here by picking our lane connectors there we go getting them going straight on and they can choose their lanes here which is an easy place to do it and it just means everybody can carry straight on without causing any problems and we could do a similar thing here because look they're all crashing into each other so we're gonna do that and say you go straight on you go straight on so another and yep and that's it along there's there's no whereas they can change and then this one here we'll take our junction tool and say it's fine if you're coming up here to change lanes we'll do it there as well we might as well and they'll pick their lane there like that larvan along here and it'll stop this sort of thing happening then we head into this monstrosity up here if we take a look at our traffic this is where like all the problem is and it's all one-way roads is one-way roads going in and then down here I'm just gonna take out all the one-way roads we just don't need them what you've sort of done is gone for that we need more traffic we've got so much traffic we need more roads approach everywhere so I'm gonna take out all of your one-way roads and make them all two-way roads well I've disconnected that connection there because it's just slowing everything up it's just absolutely nuts what we could do is bring that connection down to over here so maybe they'll use that roundabout a little bit more and then what we need to do is just keep this traffic here moving so when it gets up to this section it just doesn't stop which is what's happening at the minute I think we've got traffic lights and stuff going on here quite likely because of this connection yes so we're gonna take this here and we're gonna say you give way oh it's saving quick sip of tea yeah there we go so you give way which means these guys just keep going through and you can go through and yeah we'll do that and I might even say I'm not gonna let you go that way I'm gonna make you come up here we're gonna say you've got to go straight on you've got to go straight on and you've got to go straight on I'd like all of you to come over here actually but yeah let's just see how that goes we'll spread that out that way so there anybody coming up how to just keep on going keep on going and head off into the city over here hopefully that'll keep things moving and then we're gonna stay down here as well to give way coming on and then you can just keep moving let's just get our Junction restriction this is this is like commend us this city is a secure endless and then you're not gonna go straight across so that's fine so that should given a minute or two well it's free the traffic coming in what are you stopping there for a bit you're trying to turn which means that you're blocking up everything can't you so let's grab this road yes you are look so you really want your lanes to just do one thing seriously so one light hand and then to straight on is much much better because everybody knows where they are and you haven't got like a truck waiting behind the car cuz he wants to go left and the car must go straight on and you will become a big hoo-ha and then to stop and doing what they're doing which is all the lane switching will say no Lane switch in there but you can lane switch which is this one here in this Junction so some of these that are bound to be going straight on can come up there and go straight on you know I'm wondering where they're not to let them go up this way and to make them go straight on as well you're not I'm actually gonna do that I think that it's just gonna be much much better just to keep it flowing because this Junction is too close to the roundabout so we're gonna say no you will have to go straight on and that's it it's kind of tough really you can't do anything else but that okay just looking at this main road section down here again because a lot of traffic has to come and run along this main road and what I've done is I've just added this little way to get on and off the highway down here just to try and lessen the amount of traffic that's coming from all this industry through this road so they can go either way they like on the highway which isn't too bad although oh my goodness oh I tell you what I'll tell you what's going on over here we'll come back to this traffic that I just cause I've changed this road here to have bus lanes on you used to have a four-lane each way round and I've changed it so the largest one that is available with bus lanes which is the six lane roadway bus lanes so there's anything bigger than that no and because what this happening is buses will just stop in everywhere and then it's yeah causing a big hoo-ha and what I've done as well is I'm gonna go along this road ban crossing traffic nights in I think it's undone my give way now we've got the give way what's going on here and that should go straight through but I've stopped crossing here I don't mind it on the side row but on the main road I don't want them doing it because it just slows everything down yeah so I'm just doing that all along here and then I'm gonna put a couple of crossings in like that so no crossing there no crossing there you can go straight through we did the same here and then when we get sort of further - I'll come back to that let me get further down here I might just do another stop there and then I put another crossing in somewhere and then I've also put a teeny tiny little roundabout in which was working okay until the traffic started backing up because what has happened is all my lane changes that I did where we have one lane for light and one lane for straight on it's been undone so I'm just gonna redo those so one lane for lights one legs straight on then that bus lane go straight on I'm gonna do that all the way along here in both directions and this is the smallest size of roundabouts you can put in but this is a really busy Junction here and it was just snarling up too much too much so if you go for something like that if you go there you go look see the little black line in the middle don't give any smaller than that and it fits in perfectly whoops and yeah that will actually work really well once I've sorted these lanes out so give me a sec there we go just take a look at this roundabout here that's actually working out really well everything just keeps moving even though it's a teeny tiny one it gets a little bit janky but there's no people crossing underneath so I've put these crossings over the top which makes a big difference let's just put those two the same height oh hang on oh that's gonna look a bit odd isn't it yeah it's a slope there leave it as it was undo undo yeah so that's keeping that moving let's just start the beginning of this road this Junction is always a bit hokey balky for people wanting to turn light I might stop them from doing that and get them to move on this is moving freely that's moving free this is moving much better another little roundabouts in here what the heck is going on with this this should all be sorted out I think I know what this is the Traffic Manager and has set it up so yes everybody coming on just keeps going that doesn't work on the small around about so let's just stop that there we go so those on the roundabout have priority let's just speed that up a bit there we go just made it a tiny bit larger and that is moving much better and I saw the look at that one look at that nice and clear fantastic and this isn't to behead along here there's still a few hot spots but yeah it's a lot better than it was right and just trying to see why so many of the trucks are coming up here into this part of the city down this road so let's use the in-game tool we're gonna click on this road here let me yeah I've already got that one selected so look at the brown the brown color that's coming all the way along here look at it it's all coming into this section here and that is the only way in so they're all coming down the highway if they come off here that only gives them access to this section but then they've all got to come through here to go left or to go right so I'm gonna add in a few roads perhaps to let some of these trucks have access I'm just wondering whether to have a mini little Junction off of there into a roundabout here so they can then come into this section that may just have at least some of that traffic that we've got going on there okay so as you can see this road here is being used a lot but it keeps moving it's okay it was starting to back up a bit but it's cleared nicely and this roundabouts working very well so yeah that's not bad at all just even a teeny tiny little one as long as it keeps things moving that is going fine and how is the traffic doing down here still a lot oh my goodness me okay so what I've done to help keep this move is I've stopped everybody turning right here and say they can turn right there instead and it just keeps this moving which stops this blocking up there is just such a huge amount of traffic that is just the way it's gonna be we're glowing again I think we started off in 46,000 at 47,000 we're heading back up to 46,000 where we are having a mini death way that's just placed a ton of crematoriums because now we're up here we were down here we didn't have enough crematoriums but yeah hopefully that is gonna solve that problem right we're getting up into the 60s for the traffic which is fantastic I mean 63% we get in there we get in it one of the big issues you've got if you using these massive massive roads I mean I'm not gonna go around and change all your roads but it's just far too many lanes and then you're trying to deal with all the traffic and which way they want to go and stuff like that stick to smaller Road so for your main let's just zoom out a bit so for your main sort of highway going through Wow you got your higher around the outside your main sort of smaller highways that goes through the middle here connection road use bigger bigger lanes but then when you start getting off and branching off get to smaller roads and then by the time you get to what houses are built off of you know six lane roads each way it's just far too big so try and think of a mode hierarchy from bigger to smaller and that will help you with your Lane management and help the cars decide where they're gonna go and you know keep everything happy look at this that's that's moving nicely that's just something to you know think about obviously you may be new to City skylines which is fine if I want to start somewhere but just mode to think a bit more about what sort of Road you're using we're keeping this moving now which is good as long as this doesn't back up to the highway I think that's about the best we're gonna get with that there well we're at 72 percent 71 percent I don't think that's too bad for a city of this size with these massive huge roads you definitely want to downgrade some of your your smaller side roads and I think that work that will help a lot but what have we done what have we done a very quick overview we've added more highway so the highway cam is on Lynx rounds here gave people extra ways to get in and out of the city anywhere that there's loads and loads of traffic we've added a little roundabouts seeing if there's big junctions in each other which are running reasonably well and we've added some slipways in to help people get in and out like this we've given this whole area a way to get in and out as well onto the highway and we've used lots of lane restrictions and traffic lights and a couple of teeny tiny roundabouts but they're working really well along here just to keep the traffic flowing any junctions that are right next to our heart around about you want to just you know keep it moving keep it moving having any roads coming on to give way and just keep the main thing moving long that's really gonna help a lot and we did a little bit of work on this over here keeping this truck traffic from your cargo terminal away from everything house because that was just heading back through all of this through all of this and then using the one little Junction we had to get back onto the highway so we've given them their own way on and off the highway and overall that has improved things a
