[Music] right in this video let's look at the topic of singing wow interesting topic right whether you like singing or not there's always something to talk about it's interesting because in ielts speaking we always get topics about the arts or we sometimes say the humanities so there's often something about painting music dance this time it's all about singing let's have a look at the questions first [Music] do you like singing did you enjoy singing when you were a child will you take singing lessons in the future would you like to be a singer very very interesting questions right again whether it's true or false whether you like it or don't like it doesn't matter it's all about the english so i'm going to take one question in fact the first one and look at a negative answer as well as a positive answer right but what about you do you like singing right okay good remember develop your answers a little bit but not too much okay let's see what i might say for this question do you like singing well i enjoy listening to others sing but me personally i think i'm tone deaf as much as i try i just can't hit the right notes right i'm totally out of tune every time without fail right interesting so i begin with a kind of a first um connector if you like well and then later but me personally right me personally is a nice connector to talk about it's obviously my personal experience right so here i don't just say no i say actually yes i enjoy listening to others because when you ask if you enjoy singing it could be a verb right i enjoy singing but it could be a noun do you enjoy singing which means listening to singing right it's like do you enjoy music it could be do you enjoy playing music or listening to music like sport do you enjoy sport that could be do you enjoy playing sport or watching sport so there are different opportunities here to talk about slightly different things so here i say that i enjoy listening to singing but for me i think i'm tone deaf to be tone deaf means that you cannot differentiate the different tones the different notes so they all sound similar which is terrible if you're a singer right um as much as i might try i just can't lovely expression right so it means even though i try a lot i can't do this as much as i might try i just can't right so again with these expressions build your flexibility by practicing as much as i try i just can't get up in the morning repeat with me another one as much as i try i just can't do this homework much as i try i just can't speak english of course it's not true right as much as i try i just can't hit the right notes to hit the right notes is to hit to sing the correct note in a melody right great i'm totally out of tune to be out of tune again means that you're you're not singing the correct notes so tone def hit the right notes be out of tune um or to be in tune nice expressions to use here and then at the end i say every time without fail that without fail just means every time so i'm kind of repeating the same expression but it's a lovely phrase right every time without fail i can't get up in the morning every time without fail my wife is always late every time without fail it's not true but just to practice right so this is an example of a negative answer let's look at a possible positive answer yes i love singing you know when i'm pottering about at home or doing the housework or even in the shower um but that said i've never sung in front of an audience um i wouldn't have the stomach to do that right nice so i use the um the template here yes but right yes i love singing but that said notice you can say but or that said or both but that said there's a nice expression here when i'm pottering about at home to potter about is to do bits and pieces to do nothing special but to do some simple activities right so for example if you're doing the housework um or you're doing a bit of homework or you're cleaning you're kind of pottering about it's doing a non-serious activity right so when i'm pottering about at home then yes i sing but i have never sung in front of an audience it's a nice use of the present perfect because i'm talking about my life experience i have never done that i have never sung sing sung right i've never sung in front of an audience instead of saying in front of other people audience it's a nice word for this topic right in front of an audience just notice the au is a or like oh our audience an audience and then i switched to a conditional i wouldn't have the stomach to have the stomach is to be brave enough i don't have the stomach to to speak in public right i'm not brave enough i wouldn't have the stomach to do that i could say in the present tense i don't have the stomach but the conditional is kind of suggesting if somebody asked me i wouldn't have the stomach to do it so it's nice to show that conditional tense um instead of the present but both are fine right the expression to have the stomach the stomach not my stomach the stomach is your your this part of the body right to have the stomach to do something so some nice expressions there great that's it for singing
