based on best-selling books Horrible Histories is a children's show phenomenon that's already 14 batters and legions of fans look young and old from caveman zakiya patra the plagues are Peter the Great who knew learning could be so fun it's grotesque I'm a Puritan I don't celebrate Christmas in fact I've had it been you are literally the worst girlfriend I've ever had boom Christmas dinner is bad it's sinful man Choi do you want to be a gallant hero then you must we on that man's head fuzzy I just leave brilliant and three of the cars Matt Benton Martha Hal Douglas and Jim how it could join us out and welcome welcome welcome you really do make learning brilliant fun thank you it's kind of the secret of its success because I mean this is what is this is the fourth series you've got four batters he put a british comedy award i think is the first children's program over to win a british comedy award so also what is the secret to this do you think I think I guess that we just make a comedy show and we just try and make it entertaining and funny and the the fact that it's educational is just built in but it's not it's not talking down to children and this is certainly not hopefully not boring what is it often the best ways need to get a message across is to always it's almost like hiding vegetables and even tell you what you and you will eat something and not realize what it is that you're actually eating and here you've got lessons that are tucked into comedy and I got a tweet this morning and this is Eloise Rowan he'll says I'm 16 I've learned the rulers song from Horrible Histories I'm not that fussed about actual GCS history revision but she's led the road now perhaps you can explain the role of song for us well I think we sort of cottoned on to the fact that a lot of children were learning all these lyrics off by heart by series 2 yes I know you the writers thought well if they're doing that let's set them a challenge basically so they Rove this song which has all of the Kings and Queens of England from William the Conqueror to present-day and sure enough kids it's really quick yes well and they've put in major unless you learn person decided that's one of those things will never lead it's like vanilla rice yeah which is exciting not going to Scotland and myself dinner ice but kids love having a challenge like that you know and coming to the playground and and seeing the songs together but this must kind of see your own playground in a way because it seems like you just have a massive dressing-up box and you can just go and play it is the best job for an actor it's a gift because yeah you get it and you get to play so many different so the characters you know peasant to a queen or you know yeah is there's such a wide variety and yeah and we also get to be pop stars which is quite nice day this is exactly that dressing on your knees things yeah instead of your dad your mom dad's wardrobe you've actually got proper costume some people aren't there occasionally been looking looking at the show and the amount of work that goes into the costumes and the facial hair hmmmm aren't there occasionally times we think well alright you know let's come up with an excuse for me not to have a bit o time we're always fighting not to have wigs and stuff always only I think I have our own head if you're playing a specific character someone from history and there's two kind of Google in which pictures one with a beard one without of it you always tend to steer them yes although you have got to be it so but this one isn't doesn't go and it's all gonna get so I do this sort of give because you have to shave every day as well and then apply glue and then alcohols take it off for non-us yeah so um show you are you both clean shampoo you have to be here otherwise you're going to stay for posting on and so you you kind of be honored on an average day probably put about three or four different beards on yeah so it does take a bit of an elf is a pound on fascinators yeah great job do you have favorite period in history of their favorite characters that you play I think my favorite character to play is is Elizabeth the first my favorite period i think because of what we're talking about it is the 40s because i can normally have my own oh yeah yeah well and it's a lovely lovely period you know if it visually and you're the year because you're the only girl yes you get the pic of eating those cosmic very lucky very very lucky I'll play all the Queen's if I can't run yeah I'm yet to play chrome I've actually got well actually got a pic cuz it's not know its history but as woven in the most brilliant like sometimes a bit pythonesque which makes yeah we should make so fabulous book actually got this apprentice clip here which which thought might like to have a look at see the end of tools it's not all about brawn sometimes it's about your bombs and your brains clearly the size of a pain at 1.5 volt sugar big and a small brain is actually larger than the homo sapien brain no joking no why don't you use it and if you're not careful your entire rice is gonna die out for that reason team the and at all if I well yeah why don't you just buy a grunt I'm dead anyway he's still more flaming used to me than you still are get out of my sight gone team homo sapien I've got a treat lined up for you have you ever been behind the wheel of a Formula One racing car yeah sorry what is will so you're gonna take it I'm gonna take it out of the road we hope to yeah it's difficult there's there is another horror mystery show on at the moment so it's this working it out with them because they're a different theater company but we're hoping to take out on the road next year possibly a movie again we hope to its kind of its all being worked out at the moment and we don't we're not we would love to do a movie absolutely anytime you're concentrating on series for 13 episodes and it's on weeknight set at five and and in July you're making series 5 that's right yeah yeah yeah yeah shave all that
