the grace of our lord jesus christ and the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you on brethren let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to hear my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fold through my fold through my most grievous hold therefore i has blessed mary ever reason all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life [Music] myself oh let us pray grant almighty god through the yearly observances of holy land that we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in christ and by worthy conduct pursue their effects through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever a reading from the book of deuteronomy moses spoke to the people saying the priest shall receive the basket from you and shall set it in front of the altar of the lord your god then you shall declare before the lord your god my father was a wandering aramaian who went down to egypt with a small household and lived there as an alien but there he became a nation great strong and numerous when the egyptians maltreated and oppressed us imposing hard labor upon us we cried to the lord the god of our fathers and he heard our cry and saw our affliction our toil and our oppression he brought us out of egypt with a strong hand and outstretched arm with terrifying power with signs and wonders and bringing us into this country he gave us this land flowing with milk and honey therefore i have now brought you the first fruits of the products of the soil which you o lord have given me and having set them before the lord your god you shall bow down in his presence the word of the lord r when i am in trouble [Music] be with me lord when i am in trouble you dwell in the shelter of the most high you abide in the shadow of the almighty say to the lord my refuge and fortress my god in whom i trust be with me lord when i am in trouble no evil shall be for you nor shall affliction come near your tent [Music] for to his angels he has given command about you that they guard you in all your ways be with me lord when i am in trouble upon their hands they shall bear you up [Music] lest you dash your foot against the stone you shall dread upon the ass and the viper you shall trample down the lion in the dragon [Music] be with me lord when i am in trouble because it clings to me i will deliver him [Music] i will set up him on high because he acknowledges my name he shall call upon me and i will answer him i will be with him in distress i will deliver him and glorify him be with me lord when i am in trouble [Music] a reading from the letter of saint paul to the romans brothers and sisters what does scripture say the word is near you in your mouth and in your heart that is the word of faith that we preach for if you confess with your mouth that jesus is lord and believe in your heart that god earth raise him from the dead you will be saved for one believes with the heart and soul is justified and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved for the scripture says no one who believes in him will be put to shame for there is no distinction between jew and greek the same lord is lord of all enriching all who call upon him for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved the word of the lord [Music] lord jesus say [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke filled with the holy spirit jesus returned from the jordan and was led by the spirit into the desert for 40 days to be tempted by the devil he ate nothing during those days and when they were over he was hungry the devil said to him if you are the son of god command this stone to become bread jesus answered him it is written one does not live on bread alone then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant the devil said to him i shall give to you all this power and glory for it has been handed over to me and i may give it to whomever i wish all this will be yours if you worship me jesus said to him in reply it is written you shall worship the lord your god and him alone shall you serve then he led him to jerusalem made him stand on the parapet of the temple and said to him if you are the son of god throw yourself down from here for it is written he will command his angels concerning you to guard you and with their hands they will support you last you dash your foot against a stone jesus said to him in reply it also says you shall not put the lord your god to the test when the devil had finished every temptation he departed from him for a time the gospel of the lord in today's gospel the temptation of jesus in the desert we learned that the main job of the devil or the sole purpose of the evil is to lead us away to turn us away from god using power as one of his tricks he tells jesus to throw himself down from the cliff and he will not be hurt because his angels will help him then the devil used wealth by showing the the many riches of the different kingdoms of the world he showed them in an instant to jesus and then again he tried the devil again tried using pleasure or comfort by telling jesus to chain stone into bread so as not to prolong his hunger of course the devil did not succeed in tempting our lord surprisingly my dear friends the devil did not change his tactics because even today he is still using them to us and he seems to be winning he seems to be gaining ground how just look at around just look around what is happening to us what is happening in the world there are many disorder many kinds of disorder many kinds of foul practices there is war there is greed hunger for power killings here and there corruption etc whether it is perpetrated by an individual or by a group or by an institution or a corporation the thing is it is real and it is happening on our own effort we cannot on our own effort if we face the devil we will surely lose we cannot win if we are going to face the devil head on because he is is stronger than us but if we have christ on our side the devil is afraid of us that is why it is important that we must align that we must anchor our life to the lord the strength of the devil is nothing compared to the power of christ in the lord in jesus christ we have the certainty that we will end up triumphant and so why is it or why do we still fall into the temptation of the devil because of pleasure we are still addicted to our sinful habits it is very difficult for us to turn away from sin we find repentance too heavy for us many times we want to do good we want to do good or to be good but we end up doing what we do not want to do we end up doing what is contrary to good riches or wealth it is always very enticing and we are all attracted to it in itself reaches our wealth is good it is our attitude that must always be checked because if we do not want to share if we just want to keep it for ourselves then that is a problem that but if we if we are willing to share and help the poor and the needy we will surely be blessed because sharing what we have and helping those who are in need these are pleasing in the sight of the lord my dear friends jesus christ allowed himself to be tempted in order to show to us how we can defeat the enemy and that is by trusting and acting on the word of god because the enemy or the or the evil one they they they also know and in fact they are also they are more they are well versed when it comes to the scriptures they know the scriptures but they do not act on it in this life we we are always somehow struggling struggling against the forces of evil within us and outside of us within us because we struggle with temptation with our weaknesses with fear with pride and attachment to sin outside of us we struggle the the different forces of the world and of the evil one who continuously oppose us or who is always opposing us and all these enemies are far too strong for us and we are too weak and small to end up victorious in the face of such an impossible situation what do we do what are the things that we must do our second reading gives us an answer the word of the lord is near you in your mouth and in your heart no one who believes in him will be put to shame for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved our first reading gives us an example when god's chosen people when they were maltreated and oppressed they cried to the lord and they were heard and they were brought out from their slavery in egypt in whatever situation we may find ourselves in the correct approach the correct response is to rely totally on the strength of the lord because our lord does not need any weapon like a sword or a spear in order to save us because he gives victory to all who put their trust in him let us always depend completely on the power of the lord because he is always at work within us our pilgrimage here on earth our journey towards heaven cannot be exempt from trial my dear friends we progress we grow by means of trial no one knows himself except through trial or receives a crown except after victory or stripes except against an enemy or temptation our lord has warned us that following him will not be easy if he was tempted by the devil surely we too will undergo temptation after all no disciple is greater than his master the good news is that jesus is always ready to help us and we can always say be with us lord when i am in trouble i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made good substantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen heavenly father renew us in your covenant of mercy that lead us to everlasting life with humble hearts we pray lord graciously hear us lord graciously hear us may the church leaders find strength in the christ in desert whenever they are tempted to live a life against the gospel we pray lord graciously hear us may the civil leaders be empowered by your love o lord so that they may use material and spiritual gifts for common good we pray lord graciously hear us may filipino migrants believing witnesses of jesus salvific love so that the reign of god may spread throughout the world through them we pray lord graciously hear us as we go through this pandemic may we courageously witness to jesus christ through faith-inspired works of peace justice love and compassion we pray lord graciously hear us may those who are preparing for baptism and reception into the catholic church be guided by the spirit of wisdom and peace we pray lord graciously hear us may those who called upon your name in faith o father during their earthly journey hear the voice of christ welcoming them into the joy of heaven we pray lord graciously hear us let us pray for the urgent concerns of our community and our personal intentions we pray graciously hear us father through the spirit you led jesus into the desert to prepare him for his mission of mercy lead us by the same spirit during this lenten journey that we may be spiritually prepared to celebrate the resurrection we ask this through christ our lord amen yes foreign is [Music] is foreign [Music] pray brethren that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the your hands lord the praise and glory of his name for our glory and the good of all his holy church give us the right disposition so lord we pray to make this offerings for we damn we celebrate the beginning of this venerable and sacred time through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord by abstaining 40 long days from earthly food he consecrated through his fast the pattern of our lantern observance and by overturning all the snares of the ancient serpent taught us to cast out the leaven of malice so that celebrating worthily the paschal mystery we might pass over at last to the eternal paschal feast and so with the company of angels and saints as we sing the hymn of your praise we doubt and we acclaim [Music] is [Music] me [Music] you are indeed holy o lord and all you have created rightly gives you praise for through your son our lord jesus christ by the power and working of the holy spirit you give life to all things and make them holy and you never cease to gather a people to yourself so that from the rising of the sun to each setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name therefore o lord we humbly implore you by the same spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration that they may become the body and blood of your son our lord jesus christ at whose command we celebrate these mysteries for on the night he was betrayed he himself took bread and giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of eid for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] therefore o lord as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your son his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven and as we look forward to his second coming we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice look we pray upon the oblation of your church and recognizing the sacrificial victim by his death you will to reconcile us to yourself grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your son and filled with his holy spirit may become one body one spirit in christ may he make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect especially with the most blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her most jesus spouse with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs and with all the saints on his constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help may the sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray o lord advance the peace and salvation of all the world be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth with your servant francis our pope and jose our bishop the order of bishops all the clergy and the entire people you have gained for your own listen graciously to the prayers of this family whom you have summoned before you in your compassion o merciful father gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world to our departed brothers and sisters and to all who were pleasing to you at their passing from this life give kind admittance to your kingdom there we hope to enjoy forever the fullness of your glory through christ our lord through whom you bestow on the world all that is good through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say [Music] foreign [Music] oh [Music] please is is [Music] is deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days god by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ [Music] oh the wickedness and snares of the devil may god rebuke him we humbly pray o prince of the heavenly hosts by the power of god cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits roaming around the world seeking the reuben of souls amen mary queen of angels holy angels in heaven blessing of religious articles god by his word all things are made holy pour out your blessing on these religious articles and granted anyone who uses them in accordance with your will and your law and with a spirit of thanksgiving may experience by your power health in body and protection in soul as they invoke your most holy name through christ our lord the lord be with you bow down for the blessing may bountiful blessings o lord we pray come down upon your people that hope may grow in tribulation virtue be strengthened in temptation and eternal redemption be assured through christ our lord amen and may almighty god bless you the father and the son and the holy spirit go in peace glorifying the lord by
