glorious face in the joy of the resurrection through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen a reading from the book of the prophet isaiah behold my servant shall prosper he shall be exalted and lifted up and shall be very high as many were astonished at him his appearance was so married beyond human semblance and his form beyond that of the sons of men so shall he startled many nations kings shall shut their mouths because of him for that which has not been told then then they shall see and that which they have not heard they shall understand who has believed what we have heard and to whom has the arm of the lord been revealed for he grew up before him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground he had no form or comeliness that we should look at him and no beauty that we should desire him he was despised and rejected by men a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised and we esteemed him not shirley has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we esteemed him stricken smitten by god and afflicted but he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities upon him was the chastisement that made us whole and with his stripes we are healed the word of the lord [Music] this is the people that longs to see your face that longs to see your face [Music] upon the seas an established upon the rivers know this is the people that longs to see your face [Music] whose heart is who desires not what is [Music] he shall receive a blessing from the lord [Music] such is the race that seeks me that seeks the face of the god [Music] [Music] a reading from the first letter of peter brothers and sisters all of you be of one mind sympathetic loving toward one another compassionate humble do not return evil for evil or insult for insult but on the contrary a blessing because to this you were called that you might inherit a blessing 4 whoever would love life and see good days must keep the tongue from evil and the lips from speaking deceit must turn from evil and do good seek peace and follow after it for the eyes of the lord are on the righteous and his ears turned to their prayer but the face of the lord is against evil doers now who is going to harm you if you are enthusiastic for what is good but even if you should suffer because of righteousness blessed are you do not be afraid or terrified with fear of them but sanctify christ as lord in your hearts always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who ask you for a reason for your home the word of the lord thanks speeds ago [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to john glory see you lord then pilate took jesus and scorched him and the soldiers plated a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe they came up to him saying hail king of the jews and struck him with their hands pilate went again and said to them see i am bringing him out to you that you may know that i find no crime in him so jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe pilate said to them behold the man when the chief priests and the officers saw him they cried out crucify him crucify him pilate said to them take him yourselves and crucify him for i find no crime in him gospel of the lord praise you lord jesus christ today the church celebrates the feast of the holy face of jesus tuesday before ash wednesday every time i look at this inmates of jesus the face of jesus i cannot but reflect on the silence of god there are times in our life when god seems to be silent especially in the down moments of our life the kind of silence that brings peace actually so here we see a terrible picture of the silence of jesus during the trial his trial although there were times when he had to answer pilate especially when the latter told him that he had the power to release him or crucify him don't you know that i have the power to release you or to crucify you into which jesus answered that pilate had no power at all except that which had been given to him by god father herman hendricks describes jesus jesus's answer as was like telling pilate that he was not impressed the trial of jesus never has never been like the story of a man who is a man who is afraid that he's going to be executed soon rather it is a story of a man whose last days were a triumphant journey towards the victory of the cross this victory of the cross this journey this triumphant journey is marked by images of silence the silence of jesus there was a time when he had no answer to give to pilate there were a number of times that jesus was just being silent he was silent when the high priest asked him he was silent before he ran he was silent when his fellow jews made the charges against him before pilate jesus remained silent brothers and sisters we know of that that feeling when talking to a particular person and finding that argument and dialogue are no longer possible because you don't speak the same terms you don't speak the same language and that there is simply no common ground you just have to be silent and it's time to put ourselves in silence but what can one benefit from silence in the gospel jesus would always look for a quiet place in order to pray mother teresa tells us of a simple path from silence to peace of mind a silence sets the tone for prayer prayer brings faith and faith brings love but love is service when it is put into practice the realization of love is service serving one another and the fruit of service is peace of mind that is why from silence to peace of mind the silence of jesus must be the source of his peace of mind so that in the face of such a very violent intense emotional trial his face remained serene jesus remained tranquil when pilate spoke when people accused him jesus prayed in silence a very important aspect in our spiritual journey that we see in jesus we see consistently in the life of jesus in the gospel from nazareth to galilee and even in calvary even dying on the cross he was praying for his persecutors father forgive them brothers and sisters in times when life's journey becomes turbulent let us be calm by the words of jesus and continue to pray in silence so that like him we too would be able to remain serene and god continue to bless us and give us peace of mind his soul stand filled with joy of this celebration contemplating the face of our lord and savior jesus in the image of the ichiomo we bring before god our prayers for the church and for the word we call to god as we say christ graciously hear us christ graciously hear us that the church may direct the gaze of all believers to the face of the crucified and risen one the proclamation and pledge of our glory to the lord we pray christ graciously hear us that the leaders of nations may train aside from every project of destruction and war and in the light of the face of christ seek to build up the civilization of love to the lord we pray christ that all who know weariness humiliation or suffering may lift their eyes to the holy face of christ and that those despised by the powerful of this world may recognize in the face of christ one like themselves to the lord we pray christ graciously hear us that the sick and the dying may see on the face of christ all glory all sorrow and all love in the greatest peace to the lord we pray christ graciously hear us that the servant of god joffi loka be raised to the altar of the saints to the lord we pray christ graciously hear us for all the intentions and prayers offered by the pilgrims and devotees of senior santonine to the lord we pray christ graciously hear us for peace in our country and in the whole world to the lord we pray christ christ graciously hear us for all in direct patient care give them strength for their service to the lord we pray christ graciously hear us for all those isolated in their homes sustain them in joy and peace to the lord we pray for decision makers at all levels send them your wisdom and good counsel to serve their communities to the lord we pray christ graciously hear us for all those who have died because of the pandemic and those who grieve their loss in isolation comfort them in their sorrow to the lord we pray christ and ever living god a splendor on sinai was such that moses was obliged to veil his face made radiant by the brightness of your holiness remove the veil from our faces and open our eyes to the knowledge of your glory shining in the face of christ that we in the gaze of our hearts fixed on him may by the power of the holy spirit be changed into his likeness and so praise you forever in the company of the saints in light we ask this through christ our lord amen [Music] [Music] [Music] all of us [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] of is lord [Music] you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts you pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the two fall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was signed he took the chalice and wants more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal cabinet which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy
